Clermont PUD Denied The Hendricks County Commissioners met on Tuesday, Feb. 9 to discuss the Clermont Village proposal among others. The project was sent to the Commissioners with a positive recommendation for approval and the issue was continued at the initial commissioners meeting, Jan. 26. On Tuesday, Commissioners unanimously denied the proposal. Commissioner Phyllis Palmer said, “For years we’ve had people come to us with genuine concerns about flooding. We haven’t been able to help them much. I feel a strong obligation to the existing neighbors and to the people in the new development to not cause any further stress or pain in their lives.” “To the applicant, I think the site plan looks like a very good plan. I just think the site is wrong for what you want to do. I would encourage you to look further in Hendricks County. I’m sure you could find a site much more acceptable than this,” Commissioner Dennis Dawes added. The current project proposal is in complete alignment with the Hendricks County Comprehensive plan for the site, however, commissioners were concerned by previous flooding complaints and the ability to overcome those challenges with a new development. ______________________________________________
Bluebird Society To Host Nesting Box Distribution Do you have Eastern bluebirds around your property or good bluebird habitat? These birds favor short grass open areas. If you do, putting up a nest box will encourage them to raise their off-spring and help to maintain/increase their numbers in Hendricks County. Eastern bluebirds, a bird native to North America, eat primarily insects and larvae. You can enjoy seeing and hearing them if you provide a nesting cavity (a special box) for them to use. Come to the Hendricks County Fairgrounds on March 16, Tuesday, between 6 and 8 p.m. for a drivein pick-up. A $10 donation per box is requested. Membership is $10/year if you want to join us in helping these beautiful birds. _____________________________________________

A Case of Bison Tipping?
Hendricks County’s Bicentennial Bison was spotted tipped over on the northwest corner of the court house yard on Sunday. The 5-ft. tall fiberglass statue arrived in 2016 as part of the Indiana Bicentennial Celebration. It had been removed last summer for fear of rioters during the Black Lives Matter protests. When it appeared that BLM or ANTIFA were no longer a threat, the bison was brought back. Now, we are left to wonder if this incident was nefarious, malicious or due to a freak weather incident. We may not have an answer yet, but suspect that Nature tipped the beast.

Vandalia Trail Brisk Bike Rides
In its third winter, the Vandalia Trail Brisk Bike Rides series in Plainfield is hosted by the Friends of the Vandalia Trail The rides take place on the third Saturday morning each month, November-March. The gathering point is right behind Biggby’s Coffee and the Metro Diner and in front of Meijer. The route is about 10 miles, but the group, or individuals, can choose more or fewer, depending on weather conditions. The routing gives a lot of flexibility on distance. In the past, ride temperatures have ranged 11-45 degrees. Riders participate at their own risk. Minors must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them. If icy conditions exist or if it is raining or snowing, the ride will be canceled. For more information, about the Vandalia Trail visit www.nrht.org/vandalia.
