Gather To Read Hendricks County Extension Homemakers (EHM) are hosting “Gather to Read” on Monday, May 23, at the Plainfield Public Library at 1:30 p.m. Book for the month is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. This is their first gathering as a group who are interested in reading and/or listening. This is a new effort by Homemakers to share with all people – Homemakers, public, men, women, readers, listeners, learners, bookworms – everyone! And the great part is it’s just coming together – to decide, how, when, where YOU like to read or listen. “We CAN have day groups, night clubs, monthly gatherings! That’s why we will “Gather to Read,”, said Rosie Lenihan, County President of Extension Homemakers. “This is the time to share and initiate book events that suit everyone’s preferences. No one needs to buy books. We have six great libraries in Hendricks County who are most happy to find books.” Please call the Hendricks County Extension Office at 317-745-9260 if you would like to attend “Gather to Read.” Or just come – we can find space – there’s always a place to read. _____________________________________________

Crowdfunding For Blast Off

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) recently launched a crowdfunding campaign to improve a decades-old playground in Brownsburg. Blast Off Playground, located in Williams Park, was built by volunteers in 2000. Named for its rocket-shapped towers, the playground included tunnels, ramps, tire swing, monkey bars, slides, and other equipment. If the crowdfunding is successful, Brownsburg residents will soon see improved accessibility and new play features within the Blast Off Playground. The goal is to raise $25,000 by June 22, 2022. The project, led by the Town of Brownsburg Parks, will receive a matching grant as part of the IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program. “We are excited to renovate this playground that has been a community staple for 21 years,” Crouch said. “These upgrades will make this park safer, more accessible and expand activities for children to enjoy Brownsburg’s Blast Off playground has launched for years to come.” a crowdfunding campaign to restore and improve the Funds from the cam22-year-old structure. paign will be used to re______________________________________________ place large parts of the wooden structures with recycled plastic lumber, add sensory play elements and improve surfacing and seatKick the summer off by The Hendricks County ing to allow more commuenjoying fun and games at Recycling District will host nity members to enjoy the Gibbs Memorial Park on the next Tox-Away Day on space.
