JAMES V. “JAMIE”

GILBERT SR., 95, of Plainfield, passed away January 29, 2021.

He was born January 31, 1925 in Noblesville, IN to the late Vernie and Gladys (Davis) Gilbert. Jamie was a Plainfield High School graduate, where he played on the football team and was a member of the 1943 Sectional Basketball Championship team. He earned his BA from Wilberforce State University in Ohio and his Master’s Degree from Indiana State University. He was also a WWII Navy veteran.

Jamie was an accountant for Petry Accounting, which was an African American owned business in Indianapolis. He was a counselor for the Indiana Department of Corrections and retired in 1990 as the Director of Classifications.

Jamie was a member of the Plainfield Bethel AME Church, where he was the Sunday School Superintendent, teacher and treasurer. He was also a member of the Lay Organization, Chantaires Choir, Chapel Aires Men’s Quartet, Indiana Conference Lay Male Chorus and a Lay Delegate to the Indiana Annual Conference.

Jamie was the only African American recipient in Hendricks County to be on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was also inducted to the Plainfield High School Hall of Fame. He also coached Little League teams for the Plainfield Optimist Club and was a member of Guilford Township Historical Society and Plainfield Old Timers Club.

Jamie was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Gilbert and brothers, Paul Gilbert and Mark Carbin; grandson, Jacob Gilbert.

Survivors include a daughter, Katrina L. Williams (Kevin R.); son, Rev. James V. Gilbert Jr. (Monaei); sister, Mary Elizabeth Humphrey; grandchildren, Janese Gilbert-Rivers, Joshua, Jianna and Jaida Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Zara and Zion Rivers.

Funeral services will be at the Plainfield Friends Meeting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial with military honors will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Masks are required as well as social distancing at Plainfield Friends Meeting. PAUL DAVID LINDLEY, 88, of Danville, peacefully passed away on February 5, 2021. Services will be private. He will be buried beside wife, Darlene, at the Lizton K. of P. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Paul was born May 15, 1932, in a house at the corner of CR 300 E & 400 N, south of Pittsboro, to Carl Thomas and Helen E. (Gentry) Lindley. Dr. O.T. Scamahorn was the birth doctor.

He attended Pittsboro schools all 12 years and had wonderful classmates. Paul helped his dad on the farm and drove school bus for 22 years. He was a lifetime farmer, except for four years with an Albuquerque, N.M. race team.

Paul loved his dad and mother, and always dearly loved his grandparents. His most happy time was when his children were growing up, playing with them and going to their school activities.

He had the best wife in the world and spent over 66 great years with her.

Paul could easily talk with any stranger and liked meeting new people. He was 79 years old before he began realizing he was getting old.

He loved playing jokes on his friends, and they often got him back. Paul liked to travel, especially in the western states He especially liked Colorado and Arizona. He also spent sometime and made a lot of friends in Costa Rica, Central America.

Paul would often say that he didn’t make much money, but he had a wonderful and happy life and got to do a lot of exciting things, made possible with the help from his wonderful wife, Darlene.

He is survived by his sons, Dwight David Lindley and David Joe Lindley; daughter, Cynthia Kay Lindley Monnett; 2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 4 great-grandsons and 2 great-granddaughters.

BARBARA L. ELLIS, of Coatesville, died peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021. at her home in the early morning hours surrounded by her family. She was born on January 18, 1938 in Maysville, Kentucky. Barbara was born to Brack and Emma (Vantine) Neff.

She grew up on the banks of the Ohio River where she found her love for horses. She loved to ride and show horses and she did so for most of the first half of her life.

Barbara followed her husband, Frank, in whom she married on January 1, 1953, to Germany where he was stationed in the US Army and they lived there for almost 2 years. They then moved back to the States and moved from Kentucky to Indiana, where they eventually settled down on a small farm just East of Coatesville.

Barbara lived on this small farm for her final 56 years with her family. She worked alongside her husband farming, as well as, being a homemaker and mother.

She loved to garden and was known for her “green thumb”. She enjoyed being outdoors and would be outside all day long if she was not cooking one of her delicious homemade meals.

Barbara handmade wooden crafts and for many years she had a booth at the Mansfield Covered Bridge Festival.

She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Moore of Coatesville, her three granddaughters Brooklyn (Austin) of Fairmount, Paris and London Moore of Coatesville. She has two great grandchildren Anya and Tobias Christianson of Fairmount.

Barbara is also survived by her two sisters Norma Nicholas of Avon and Christine Smitson of Plainfield, along with several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Brack & Emma, her brother, Louis “Bud” Neff, and her husband of 62 years, Frank Ellis.

Services took place Wednesday, February 10, at Bousley Funeral Home in Coatesville with Rev. Shelly A. Zook officiating.

RODNEY W. “ROD” SIECK, 95, of Avon, passed away Sunday morning, February 7, 2021, at

Avon Healthcare. A private family graveside service will be held at Kennedy Cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Rod will laid to rest next to his wifeof 60 years, Edna Mae. There will be no visitation.Rod was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to the late Henry August and Ruth (Inskeep) Sieck. He graduated from Central Kitsap High Schoolin Silverdale, Washington. Rod married Enda Mae Sparks Sept. 1, 1950; she preceded him in death March 5, 2010.

He had served as vice-president of sales for Locke Stove Company of Kansas City for many years. Rod believed in both God and Country. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a former active member of Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church in Avon, where he served in many capacities, including lay-leader.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan “Suzie” (Gary) Proctor of Heritage Lake (Coatesville, Ind.), Judy (John) Conner of Terre Haute; grandsons, Derek and Scott (Palavi) Conner, all of Indianapolis.

Rod was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

DOROTHY JEAN (Clampit) HEALD, 88, of Danville, passed away on February 3, 2021 after a short illness with Covid-19 Pneumonia.

She was born January 21,1933 in the Prairie Grove Community, Drew County, Arkansas. Her parents were Calvin Ernest Clampit and Scottie Myrtle (Thurman) Clampit.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Maurice Heald; her parents; brothers Willard Clampit, J.C. Clampit, Ira Doyle “Pete” Clampit.

She is survived by her son, Darwin Heald of Hot Springs, Ark.; daughter, Carla (Heald) Cook of Danville, Ind.; grandaughter, Rachel Cook (Jesse) of Ocala, Fla.; brother, Jerry (Mary) Clampit of Monticello, Ark.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Dorothy’s home health nurse, Julie.

Dorothy moved to Houston, Texas in 1952 and obtained a job at Southwestern Bell. She later transferred to Michigan Bell, which through the years had many name changes. She retired with 40 years of service from AT&T.

In 2010 she moved to Danville to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed crocheting, and her passion was genealogy. She also found great joy visiting with family and with her friends at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

Cremation has taken place and her remains will be buried at the Lacey Cemetery, Monticello, Arkansas.

CATHERINE G. MASON, age 90, of Plainfield, passed away on February 1, 2021 in her residence.

She was born on January 12, 1931 to the late Sheldon and Jennie Yates Meier. She was the widow of Hubert E. Mason. She was in housekeeping for the Ashley Motel for several years.

Survivors include her children, Mark (Jolene) and Rodney Mason, Anita Holcomb and Gina Weddle; brothers, Jim and Steve Meier; sisters, Mary Mitchell and Roberta McCammon; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Mason, and son, David Mason. Funeral services werer Friday, February 5, in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. JAMES PHILLIP CAVETT, of Plainfield, born on April 1, 1937, in Indianapolis, to John Henry and Clara Louise (Cramer) Cavett, Died peacefully Tuesday February 2, 2021 in Avon.

Phillip graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis in 1955 and was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Phillip was a dedicated husband and father, an outdoorsman and ardent Colts fan.

Phillip worked as a Machinist for 26 years for Schwitzer Company in Indianapolis retiring in 2000.

He is survived by his sister Peggy (John) Obergfell, his wife of 64 years Dorothy (Sylvester), James Phillip (Susan Hannah) Cavett Jr., daughters Lynne (Greg) Miller and Mary (Steve) Pennington. Four grandchildren; Meghan (Dan Newland) Cavett, Allison (Marcus) Edwards, Bryn (Bethany) Cavett and Gracelyn Miller. Three great grandchildren; Stella, Dominic and Davin.

MARCIA L. LEITZMAN, 83, of Clayton (Belleville), passed away at her home, Friday afternoon, February 5, 2021, with her family by her side. Funeral services took place Tuesday, February 9, at Hazelwood Christian Church. Burial followed in Clayton Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her husband of 42 years, Thane.

Marcia was born in Matteson, Illinois to the late John and Florence (Pieper) Stege. She was a graduate of Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fla.

Marcia married Thane W. Leitzman on February 5, 1960, in Georgia; he preceded her in death May 23, 2002. She was a loving mother, grandmother,and enjoyed being the homemaker for her family. Marcia was active in the ministry of the Hazelwood Christian Church, and has asked that contributions be given to the church in her memory to continue these ministries.

MELISSA ANN FULBRIGHT, 52, Brownsburg, passed away February 3, 2021.

Melissa was a nurse practitioner for American Health Network, Plainfield. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and her master’s degree from University of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband Bradley Fulbright; father George Albrecht, and brother Jason Albrecht.

Melissa is survived by sons Ben (Shauna) Fulbright, Sam Fulbright and Jack Fulbright; mother and stepfather Barbara and Walter Fallowfield; brother Matt (Lacey) Albrecht; stepsisters Vicki (John) Young and Kathy (Davey) Thompson; stepbrother Steve (Nicole) Fallowfield; parentsin-law Bob and Mickey Fulbright; sisters-in-law Michelle (Andrew) Baird and Robin (Jamey) Dickman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Missy loved watching her boys play sports (most recently basketball), and especially loved cheering from the stands at all their contests. She was also a dedicated sister, daughter, friend, and neighbor, sharing her medical expertise to take care of those she loved.

Missy enjoyed sports and was a Colts and Pacers fan. She played golf, scrapbooked, and traveled with her many friends and family. She was woman of deep faith. many.

MARGARET HAY, 94, of Plainfield, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

She was born on September 4, 1926 at the family home in Benton County, Indiana, to Nonie O. and Lou (Bertram) Peercy.

Margaret attended school (grades 1-12) in Oxford, Indiana and two years of college at Indiana Teachers College in Terre Haute.

Her work history includes: Conron Wholesale Hardware, Danville, Illinois, Benton Federal Savings & Loan in Oxford (13.5 years), Tipton Real Estate, Attica, Indiana, and Mar- Tip Catering, Inc/Mar-Tip Corporation until retirement in 1999.

Margaret was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees for 15 years. She was a member of Rachel Circle, a church sewing group, Golden Girls, and Encore.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, Eugene Peercy, Ramie O. Peercy, Haskel Peercy, sisters-in-law Wilma Peercy, Myrna Peercy, nephew Roger Peercy and her younger daughter, Hedy L. Peterson.

She is survived by her older daughter, Vicki L. Bonachea, grandchildren, Beth, Amanda, and Ian White, sister-in-law, Joan Peercy, nephews Ron Peercy, Wayne Peercy, John Peercy, Rick Peercy, Ryan Peercy, and nieces, Bina Peercy and Diana Muller.

CHARLES FREDERICK “CHUCK” GREENWELL, 51, formerly of Terre Haute and current resident of Danville, unexpectedly passed away while vacationing with his love in St. Lucia on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Services were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia and took place February 8, in Terre Haute, at DeBaun Funeral Homes & Crematory. Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice to assist in providing shelter, food and care for animals. ________________________

FRED CURTIS, age 69, Coatesville, passed away Saturday evening, Feburary 6, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Greencastle, Ind. on July 16, 1951, the son of Lee and Beulah Shupe Curtis. Fred had been a truck driver for Lee Curtis and Sons Trucking. He was a friend to everyone and an avid Dale Earnhart fan.

He is survived by his beloved companion, Cathy Mullis, Coatesville; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Denise Curtis, Coatesville; 1 niece and 2 nephews; and his honorary brother, Ronnie Trump and wife, Yvette.

He was preceded by his parents.

Services were Wednesday, February 10, at the Bousley Funeral Home, Coatesville. Cremation followed the services. The family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Coatesville Food Pantry. ________________________

FRANCEL IRENE STRAIN, age 68, peacefully crossed over from this life on Friday January 29, 2021 at IU West.

She was born August 20, 1952 in Lafayette Indiana to Carl E. and Mary Frances (Doty) Strain.

She was a 1970 Graduate of Greencastle High School and attended IU in Bloomington Indiana.

She was an artist and a loving free spirit.

Although she had no children of her own, she loved and adored her many nieces and nephews as well as her great nieces and nephews. She bonded deeply with those lucky enough to be close by.

Her greatest gift was her ability to genuinely love unconditionally everyone she met. If you ever met Francel you probably have a little trinket or more often a small figurine that she gave you. She loved to find and buy them to share and spread joy to everyone.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother Carl “C” Strain Jr.

She is survived by her father, Carl E. Strain (Verdeen); her sisters, Susan (Strain) Glaser (Alan), Melody Strain Taylor, Kathy Strain, Brenda (Strain) Stone (David) and Liz St.Rain (Michael); brothers, Justice “Jay” St.Rain (Karen) and Judson Strain (Kelly); nieces and nephews, Anne, Christi, Jacob, Heather, Brandon, David, James, Jana, Michelle, Noah, Nathan, Lauren, Sidra, Sam, Demetra, and Sterling, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She will be laid to rest in Coatesville Indiana with close family in attendance. ________________________

RICHARD “DICK” L. NEWKIRK, 85, of Pittsboro passed away on February 2, 2021.

He can best be remembered by his out-going personality, his ability to make friends and his love of family.

He enjoyed woodworking, racing, his dogs and owning B&D Campground.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, his daughters, Marsha (Martin) Sneed, Patricia Hyatt, his step-children: Toni (Brian) Hewson, Penny (Mike) Smith, Robin Sullivan, Brian Sullivan and Tracy (Steve) Moore, as well as 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Susan.

Services were February 8, and Richard was laid to rest in Washington Park East cemetery. Services are in the care of Flanner Buchanan—Washington Park East.

CATHERINE ANN BLOOM, 75 of Brownsburg, peacefully passed away on February 3, 2021 in her home.

She was born at Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa on October 4th, 1945, William Joseph Bloom Jr. and Mary Gertrude “Gertie” (Murtogh) Bloom. She grew up on a four-generation family farm in the rolling hills of rural Clinton County.

Her favorite place to be was working outside on the farm alongside her brother and father.During high school she worked as a carhop at the A&W in DeWitt. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1963. She was a proud St. Joe’s Warbird and member of the National Honor Society.

After graduation she joined her sister, Mary, at Iowa Mutual Insurance Company in DeWitt, Iowa. She worked a variety of jobs through the years including keypunch operator, school crossing guard, custodian, school bus driver, landlord and owner of the Eldridge Bike Shop.

After marriage, she volunteered at preschool, was a room mother, a Parent Teacher Association member, Brownie leader, basketball coach, and 4-H leader. She taught CCD class to fourth graders for several years at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove, Iowa. She earned a job as a school bus driver for the North Scott School District in Eldridge. In 1991, as an innocent bystander, she was involved in a freak accident with a grain auger. She moved to Indiana to join her daughter Lori and son-in-law, James. She was happily settled in her new home in Brownsburg before the arrival of her first grandchild, Jacob.

She joined the Altar Society and Singles Group as well as other committees at St. Malachy Catholic Church in order to serve others and make friends along the way. She joined the Hendricks County Homemakers Club, Chat N’ Do and Hendricks County Welcome Wagon. She joined card clubs and fundraising groups. She volunteered to be a board member and later president of her

condo community, serving and making many friends. S h e was active in politics and was elected as a delegate. In addition to babysitting her grandchildren part time, she took a job with the YMCA providing before and after school care at local elementary schools. She was able to meet wonderful friends through her job and got to enjoy time with the kids.Cathy was a faithful and fun person. She has been described as spunky, spicy and full of life. Active until she was admitted to the hospital, she communicated her health care plan and her final wishes to her family and doctors with no hesitation.

She is survived by her sister, Mary W. Bloom of DeWitt, Iowa; her brother, William E. (wife Mary) Bloom of Ankeny, Iowa; her son, Robert Hoepner of Chicago, Ill.; her daughter, Laura (husband James) Burks of Jamestown, Ind.; and her grandchildren, Jacob and Jacquelyn Burks. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Bloom. Visitation took place February 9, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home, followed by The Mass of Christian Burialat St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, St. Malachy Catholic School, St. Joseph’s School, or Indianapolis Living Water Marlins. ___________________________________________________

MARIAN FRANCES (Smith) VAN WECHEL, 73 of Brownsburg, peacefully passed away on January 29, 2021.

Marian Frances Smith was born on Aug. 18, 1947 at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, the second child of Milburn and Mildred (Bowman) Smith. Marian’s early years were spent in Lizton. Near her fifth birthday the family moved to a small farm in the Raintown community between Lizton and Pittsboro. She helped with a wide variety of farm chores and aiding her father with his Sunday Star newspaper route. She attended school at Pittsboro where she would finish all 12 years, graduating in 1965.. Marian graduated from Ball State University in 1969 where she majored in physical education. Her first full time job was as an elementary school teacher at North Salem in the fall of 1969.

Attending the Lizton United Methodist Church as a child, Marian was married to William Van Wechel there on Aug. 23, 1969. The family moved to Yuba City, California in 1977 after Bill secured a job with Pacific Bell. In 1985 Marian went back to work as a mathematics teacher for Yuba City High School.

Marian and Bill experienced many travels together, from camping through Yellowstone to cruising in Alaska to cross country adventures in their fifth wheel. They returned to Indiana to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

A graveside service took place Friday, February 5, the Lizton K of P Cemetery. Memorial gifts are encouraged to Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA). Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro. ___________________________________________________

MARY M. HESSLER, age 78, of Stilesville, passed away February 2, 2021. She was born April 30th, 1942 to the late Virgil and Bonnie (Swango) Stepp. She married James Hessler July 10th, 1959 and he preceded her in death November 7th, 2018.

Mary worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. She loved her job and every person that walked through the door to see her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.

She is survived by her children, James Junior Hessler and his wife Julia, Tim Hessler and his wife Tammy, Dan Hessler, Bambi Cline and her husband Patrick, Mark Hessler and his wife Natalee, Susie Nysewander and her husband Kent; Sisters-In-laws Lynda Hicks, and Jenny Newcomb and husband Ken; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son Phil Hessler, and her brothers Robert Stepp, Larry Stepp.

SANDRA BUCHANAN, 76, Brownsburg, passed away on February 3, 2021.

She worked for Brownsburg Community School Corporation for many years.

She was a member of the Miami Nation of Indians of the State of Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Mary Buchanan.

Survivors include her brother, William (Joyce) Buchanan; sister, Pat Dickey; nieces, Cindy Gray and Pam Manco; nephews, Trevor Buchanan, Troy Buchanan, and Ronnie Dickey, Jr..

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Februay 13, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at noon.

As a custom to her Native American Heritage, you are welcome to bring a small journey gift to be placed in her casket. Burial will be in Lizton K of P Cemetery. In compliance with current requirements and restrictions, guests are required to wear masks and observe social distancing. ________________________

STEVEN D. MYERS. 77, of Danville, passed away February 06, 2021.

He was born on October 29, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Arlen Eugene and Pauline (Tarter) Myers. He married Jerry C. Bray on March 18, 1964.

Steven was an U. S. Army veteran and a self-employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking and made several beautiful pieces to share with family and friends.

GERTRUDE SINCLAIR, 103, Pittsboro, passed away February 4, 2021.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a cafeteria worker for the City of New York for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas William Sinclair and a daughter, Michele Newton.

Gertrude is survived by her son Thomas Sinclair (wife, Linda); grandchildren Jeanette Patterson, Michele Hearn, Thomas John Sinclair, Kenneth James Sinclair, and Lianne Michele Sinclair; seven great grandchildren.

After private services, Gertrude will be laid to rest in the Long Island National Cemetery, NY, next to her husband Thomas. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. ________________________

STEVEN JOSEPH GALOVIC, 78, Brownsburg, passed away on January 28, 2021.

He owned Steve’s Electric for 33 years. He was a lifeguard at Westlake Beach Club from 1957-1969.

He was preceded in death by parents B John “Shorty” and Louise Galovic, brother John Galovic and sister Annie Shelton.

Survivors include, the love of his life, Patricia “Patti” Ellis Galovic; children Scott (Darla) Galovic, Terri (Steve) Hughes, Steven Craig Galovic, Danielle (Ken) McCoy & Heather Galovic; sister Suzi (Steve) Looper and brother Mark Galovic; eight grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

CRAIG A. MONNETT, age 69, Coatesville (Heritage Lake), passed away early Friday morning, February 5, 2021, at his residence.

He was born in Greencastle, Ind. on November 8, 1951, the son of Glenn and Nelly Rosalind Fuqua Monnett. Craig had worked for the railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Masten Monnett and a son, Lucas and financee’, Ashley.

He was preceded by his parents, and brothers. Dee and Marc Monnett.

Cremation was chosen and there will be a memorial service held at the Bousley Funeral Home, Coatesville, at a later date. ________________________

CHESTER L. DILLON, 79, Indianapolis, passed away February 8, 2021. He was a US Air Force veteran serving from 1960-64 and was an over-the-road commercial truck driver for many years. Dart and Bowman were two of the companies he worked for, and he had also been a machinist for Schweitzer Co.

Chet enjoyed fishing with his many Air Force friends in various locations over the years. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester A. and Anice Dillon; sisters Darlene Easterday and Connie Greve.

Survivors include his sister Priscilla Dillon; daughter Mary Janetta; nephews Tracy Easterday and Kevin Greve; niece Tasha Hubbard; four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11am to 12 noon Friday February 12 at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Clayton Cemetery. DONALD EDWARD POINDEXTER, age 81, of Avon, passed away on February 3, 2021 in Hendricks Regional Health, Danville.

He was born on June 1, 1939 in Burkesville, Kentucky to the late Archie and Lula Anderson Poindexter. He was a job setter for Allison’s for 30+ years retiring in 1992. Donald was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Avon and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his sons, Shawn Poindexter and Kevin Poindexter; daughter-in-law, Teresa Brown; sister, Connie Masters; grandchildren, Karen Worland, Kyle Poindexter, Tyler Poindexter, Bryce Poindexter and Brett Poindexter; greatgrandchildren, Nekoda Worland and AnnaBelle Worland; niece, Ashley Roy.

WINONA ROSE KIEFFER KATRA, 88, of Plainfield, passed away on February 6, 2021 at home, surrounded by her family.

Winona was born on August 22, 1932 in Indianapolis, to the late Theobald and Beatrice (Bryant) Stiles.

Winona was a beautician by trade, but later worked in the Monrovia High School bookstore and most recently retired from Link Belt.

She was an outstanding seamstress, often sewing, knitting and crocheting many pieces of clothing, blankets and afghans for family and friends. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #500.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Spoon, Anthony Richard Kieffer Jr.; a son Kyle Spoon and a brother Ronald Stiles.

Survivors include her daughter Catherine Miles; sister Madonna Bryant; granddaughters Amanda Scott, Victoria Lathan; great grandchildren Wyatt Scott, Conner Lathan, Raylynn Rose Lathan, Cameron Napier, Lindsey Napier and husband Donald Lee Katra.

Services were Wednesday, February 10, at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Burial followed the services in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. ________________________

LAURA MAY (Proctor) SCHINDLER, age 77 of Brownsburg, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 8, 2021.

She was born on June 20, 1943, in Indianapolis to the late James Edward and Nancy Bell Hollingsworth Proctor. She married John William (Bill) Schindler on September 23, 1962. Laura May was a homemaker and a member of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church in Indianapolis. She spent much of her time raising her own three children and also caring for many of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren over the years.

Survivors include her Husband, John, her daughter, Julie Scharlau (Mike), sons, Johnny Schindler (Teresa) and Eddie Schindler (Trina), grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Michelle, Zack, Megan, Ally, Justin, and Alyssa and great grandchildren Braiden, Caleb, Delaney, Aubrey and Haleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Phyllis Proctor and June Ann Thomas, her brother Charles Proctor and her granddaughter Alex Nicole.

BETTY L. HILTON, 85, of Coatesville, passed away February 7, 2021 at Hendricks Regional Health.

Betty was born June 7, 1935 in Sneedville, Tennessee, to the late Hughie and Laura (Gibson) Mullins.

Betty was very proud to have attended at the historical Vardy Community School and graduating from Hancock County High School, Tennessee. Betty was a member of Trafalgar Wesleyan Church and also was very active at Coatesville Missionary Baptist Church. She volunteered at Lords Locker. Betty was an active women going to local concerts, singing at nursing homes, growing a big garden, and fitness classes. Betty lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Hilton; two brothers, Ralph and Ellis Mullins.

Survivors include her two sons, David (Karin) Hilton of Coatesville and Dan (Albert Hidalgo) Hilton of Indianapolis; a brother, R.C. (Macie) Mullins of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Jake, Casey, Dayzie, Pennie, Nick, Gabby, Maddie, and Tomàs; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 great – great grandchildren.

Private family gathering will be held to honor Betty L. Hilton’s life. Burial will be at Coatesville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Coatesville Missionary Baptist Church. ________________________
