Autism Resources

A new resource for families dealing with Autism is the latest tool offered by Sycamore Services. The Sycamore Services Applied Behavior Analysis Center will serve Danville and the surrounding area. The site, at East Main and Meadow Drive, will provide services for up to 40 children at a time as our community continues to grow. This center will serve children as young as 18 months in the indoor play and learning spaces. Sycamore Services expects the center to open to the public Fall 2022. Applied Behavior Analysis is important, as 1 in 54 children born in the U.S. have been identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder by the age of 8. This number has doubled in the past 10 years. Within Danville, 17% of students within the public school system have IEPs, Individualized Learning Plans, which provide additional supports needed by children with this or other diagnoses. The goal of this center will be to provide much-needed support and resources to the families of Danville. ABA’s goals are to understand how behavior works and is affected by environment, and how to use that knowledge to increase communication, memory, and social skills. Each child’s program is written to meet the needs of the individual learner. “ABA centers can have a huge impact on children and families when implemented correctly,” says Peg Murphy, Sycamore Services Board Member and retired educator, “Children on the spectrum who struggle with functional communication benefit from the strategies of Applied Behavior Analysis.” Sycamore’s continued efforts are based upon the principle that persons with developmental and other disabilities have the same basic rights to human dignity and freedom as all other citizens. They strive to assist the individuals we serve in the development of their talents and abilities, to enable them to exercise their rights as citizens and engage in meaningful pursuits in the communities served. As a member of Danville since 1961, Sycamore Services looks forward to growing with the community. Pittsboro Gets Trail Grant

The Town of Pittsboro was among 38 communities and non-profit organizations that will receive a combined $65 million for 77 miles of new trail development as a part of the third round of the Next Level Trails program.
