Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home (IUMCH) honored Hendricks County residents Daryl and Lois Hoffman with its Agape Award on 2021 Indiana Children’s Champion Day during a virtual celebration via Facebook Live on Saturday, Oct. 16. The Hoffmans are among five honorees to be recognized for helping the Children’s Home live up to its values of love, family and education. The Agape Award honors the Hoffman’s dedication to sharing love, compassion, healing and giving hope to the youth at the Children’s Home. Over the years, the Hoffmans have been involved in many activities at the Children’s Home, including leading a pottery class at the James E. Davis School. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman are retired civil engineer and retired schoolteacher, respectively. The couple has a strong passion for supporting education and established the Hoffman Family Scholarship Fund for students at the James E. Davis School. The event also featured a dedication of the Children’s Home’s new Independent Living Learning Lab, a modern space that prepares older youth with life and independence skills. According to IUMCH, the Indiana Children’s Champion Awards are a tribute to the hard work, support and belief as Hoosiers that children represent the future of a great state and deserve a quality life where they are safe and cared for, in a place where families are reunited and where every child is treated with love and respect. Founded 106 years ago as an orphanage, the Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home has served 5,500 youth who suffer from trauma, including victims of child abuse and neglect. “While the Children’s Home began as a home for orphans, it has changed remarkably because the needs and challenges facing today’s youth have changed,” said Indiana United Methodist Children’s Home Executive Director Rich Lapinski. “Community leaders, organizations and volunteers are an integral part of our mission to provide the opportunity for youth to become healthy and self-sufficient adults. We are grateful for all children’s champions, especially the individuals and groups we will honor on Indiana Children’s Champions Day.”
