(M o r e O b i t u a r i e s MARILYN F. HILL, 92, of Urbana, Illinois died Tuesday, August 17, 2021, during a visit to Las Cruces, N.M. She was born Esther Marilyn Fisher on November 11, 1928, in Pittsboro, Ind., the only child of George Leroy Fisher and Frances Weaver Fisher. She attended school in Pittsboro, graduating co-valedictorian from Pittsboro High School in 1946, and then attended Purdue University, graduating summa cum laude in 1950 with a bachelor’s of science degree, with a particular focus on bacteriology. Following graduation, Marilyn worked briefly as a research scientist at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis before marrying Richard M. Hill of Shelbyville, Ind., in 1952, whom she had met while she was a student at Purdue. The couple moved to New York City so Richard could attend Columbia University. During this time, Marilyn took at job at ER Squibb & Co. While she was busy during the day, she helped her husband by tirelessly typing his papers and raising their first child, Martha, born in 1956. They enjoyed a busy, active life together until his death in 2010. Besides her involvement with the activities of her children, grandchildren and members of her Clark-Lindsey retirement community, Marilyn actively served her beloved Salvation Army church family, participating for many years in band and songsters, teaching Sunday school, working with the disaster services canteen team, volunteering with social services and assisting with many of the Salvation Army’s charitable programs. In addition to her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Robert. Survivors include her daughter, Martha (Phil) Anderson of El Paso, Texas; two sons, Richard “Rick” (Bernice) of Lemont and John (Wendy) of Pittsboro, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter born shortly before her death. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Salvation Army Church and Worship Center, 502 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign, Illinois with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army or Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. She was born February 10, 1927 to the late Owen and Martha L. “Mattie” ( Jones) Pate in Evansville, Ind. She was a homemaker. Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Moore; a son, Roger D. “Rick” Kemp; a son-in-law, Phil Turner; special friends, Larry and Rachel Vest; 6 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Counter; a daughter, Geraldine L. Turner; a son-in-law, Butch Moore; a brother, Jack Pate; and two sisters, Helen Wilson and Dorothy Spencer. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Ind.. She was born on March 22, 1932 in Livingston, Ky. to the late Lewis and Flaura (Hamilton) Renner. Beulah retired in 1993 as a nurses aid after 17 1/2 years for Hendricks Regional Health. She was a member of the Plainfield First Assembly of God for many years. Beulah enjoyed quilting in her free time. She was preceded in death by husbands, Sherman Brown and Clayton Brock; son, Dennis Brown; sister, Opal Roberts. Funeral services were Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial followed in Clayton Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Darryl and David Brown; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. ________________________ BABY OWEN PAUL RECORD, 1 day old, passed away September 2, 2021 in The Woodlands, Tex. He was born September 1, 2021 to Nathan P. and Sara K. (Hollingsworth) Record in The Woodlands, Tex. Owen is survived by his parents; grandparents, Paul Record and Janice Record and Mark Hollingsworth and Karen Hollingsworth; paternal great grandparents, Wayne Record, Stephen Miller and Janet Miller; aunts and uncles, David and Rachel Record, and Eric and Lisa Hollingsworth; and cousins, Blake, Marcy and Luke Hollingsworth. OLUSEGUN ODEDINA, 41, of Plainfield, passed away on September 10, 2021. He was born on July 13, 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria to Abayomi Dehinde and Olubunmi Eniola Odedina. He graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University O.A.U. with a Bachelor’s Degree. He was a member of the Lakeview Church in Indianapolis and R.C.C.G City of David Church in Lagos, Nigeria. Olusegun was also affiliated BAHM Church in Lagos, Nigeria. He loved spending quality time with family, friends and his church family both in Nigeria and here in the United States. Olusegun has 19 years of experience in IT Client Technologies and Network Engineering. Olusegun pivoted into the paramilitary services starting as a Correctional Officer for about a year before joining Damar Services. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Abayomi Dehinde Odedina. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 15, in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Plainfield. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his loving wife, Buokla Odedina; mother, Mrs. Olubunmi Eniola Odedina; children, Oluwaseun Michelle, Obanlaloluwa Jordan and Titobioluwa Jeremy Odedina; siblings, Eyimofeoluwa George, Yetunde Odedina, Adeyoola Adanijo; nephew, Okikiola Adanijo. ________________________ GLORIA CRYSTAL MAYO, 90, of Plainfield, passed away on September 12, 2021. She was born on July 24, 1931 in Belle Union, Ind. to the late Harold and Geraldine McCammack. Gloria was a waitress for 35 years at the Double Decker. She was a loving mother and a dedicated homemaker. Gloria was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed crochet and doing puzzles in her free time. Gloria loved spending time with her family as often as she could. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mayo; brothers, Glenn and Ronnie McCammack. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 at noon in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon. Burial will follow in Stilesville Cemetery. JACOB WARREN CARTER, 30, of Avon, Indiana passed away on September 2, 2021. Although taken from us much too soon, his impact was great on so many during his short time here on earth. Jacob was a loving son, father, brother and friend to many. He was the first-born son to Greg and Lisa Carter of Avon, and was born on May 21, 1991. He was survived by his parents and three brothers, Dillon Carter (and his wife Hannah), Jackson Carter and Spencer Carter. He was also survived by his two precious daughters, Lenore and Presley. Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, L. Ellen Rodgers of Indianapolis and his fraternal grandparents, Clyde Carter (and his wife Marsha) of Avon and Maxine Carter also of Avon. In addition, he was blessed with a family full of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jake attended Brownsburg High School and was always known for his infectious smile and his ability to bring people together, and make everyone feel at home around him. Growing up Jake enjoyed anything involving the outdoors. He rode four wheelers, loved to camp and fish and just hang out with his dad and brothers. Jake will be dearly missed, but we take comfort in the fact that he left this earth knowing that he was loved beyond measure. ________________________ MICHAEL RAYMOND SIEGEL, 39, of London, England passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born in Miami, Florida to Sherlee Siegel Wilson and Raymond Siegel on January 11, 1982. Michael graduated from the University of California, Irvine and worked as a Software Engineer for Sky (a telecommunications company) in London England. Michael loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, playing the guitar and drums, listening to music, admiring art, riding motorcycles, horseback riding and playing video games. Michael was a very kind and caring person who will be dearly missed by many. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Siegel; maternal grandmother, Francis Bagnatori; maternal grandfather, Harlold Bagnatori; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Delano; paternal grandfather, Del Delano; and his nieces, Lauren and Sarah Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Sherlee Wilson; brother, Christopher Johnson; sister, Sylvia Siegel; and his niece, Marissa Johnson. SHOCKLEY-HAYWARD, 53, Lizton, passed away September 11, 2021. She had been a lifelong resident of Brownsburg and graduated from Brownsburg High School. She received her associate degree as a licensed practical nurse from Ivy Tech and worked in several health care facilities in the area, the most recent being Wellbrooke of Avon. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Shockley. Lora is survived by her daughter, Kaitlyn Foley; mother, Linda Shockley; fiancé, Andrew Billhymer; brother Lance Shockley (Bobbi Jo); sister, Cindy Shockley Hadley (Kyle); niece and nephews Sierra Shockley, Cody Shockley and Camden Hadley. ROBERT ALLEN POWELL, SR., 86, passed away September 4, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores (McMillan). Robert was a resident of Brownsburg. Robert was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 6th 1935. He graduated in 1953 from Clairton High School in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After 16 years, he retired from Louisiana Pacific as a Territory Sales Manager. Robert was a family man who worked very hard at whatever challenge he encountered. He competed as an excellent swimmer in High School and College. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working as a ranger at a local golf course. He is survived by sons Robert Allen (Penny) Powell Jr., Richard Wayne Powell and Steven Kenneth Powell; grandchildren Rees and Caroline Powell; and his brother Donald (Irene) Powell. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. ________________________ JoANN CATHERINE (Faitz) TRI was born on November 26 1933 in Trenton Illinois to Herbert and Elsie(Abel) Faitz. Jo Ann passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021 with her family by her side. JoAnn married Delbert Tri on March 8. 1951 in Trenton, Illinois where they lived until 1958. They then moved to Brownsburg, Indiana where JoAnn remained living the rest of her life. Delbert and JoAnn had 9 children - Sheila Tucker, Charlene Eubanks (Bob), Darrell (Renee), Dwayne, Sharen Arney (Tim), Kevin (Leslie), Lynn Shipp (Rob), and Valerie Wilson (David). Although JoAnn had many children of her own, the Tri household was home to so many more. Every child that knew her called her “Mom.” Jo Ann never missed an opportunity to cook for anyone that walked through the door. The Tri fish fry was always a big event - JoAnn would fry fish for hours but never ate a bite because she didn’t like fish. She enjoyed her Bingo and Casino penny slots. JoAnn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of St. Malachy Church and devoutly attended every week until her health did not allow. Even then, she would watch church services on television. JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband Delbert, sons Darrell and Dale. JoAnn is survived by her brother Dwight Faitz, seven of her nine children, 16 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services were at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg on Tuesday, September 14. Burial followed in St. Malachy Cemetery. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. ________________________ BRIAN PETTIT, 56, of Crawfordsville, passed away on September 11, 2021. He was born in Indianapolis on June 15, 1965 to Edgar and Karen Pettit. Brian enjoyed watching football and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Brian had a passion for his Bronco as well. He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Pettit. Funeral services will be Monday, September 20, 2021 at 6 p.m. in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may visit from 4 p.m. until time of service. STEPHEN TERRY BILLINGTON, loving husband and father, 56, of North Salem Indiana passed away suddenly July 28, 2021. Steve was born February 22, 1965 in Meunchweiler Germany Army Hospital to Robert and Barbara (Jones) Billington. He grew up in Mooresville, Indiana and Phoenix, Arizona. His father was a Baptist minister and Steve had a love for Jesus at an early age. He loved God and his country, and served in the Army with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was stationed in Korea at the DMZ, and then later at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. Steve loved shooting and fly fishing. He made beautiful flies and was a member of the veterans organization Project Healing Waters. He also loved gardening and photography, and took beautiful photos while out fishing. Those who knew Steve knew him as a gentle giant who was fiercely protective of his family and freedoms. Of all of his accomplishments, his greatest was being a father to Sam. He was a loving and protective husband to his wife, Andy, for over 31 years. Steve had wonderful friends growing up, Doug, Perry, James, Neil, and his best friend, Rick Jackson. Steve leaves behind his wife, Andy, son Samuel, mother Barbara (Jones) Billington, ssters Cindy ( Billington) Daravanis, Kristi ( Billington ) Kessler, and brother David Billington. He was proceeded in death by his father, Robert Billington, son, David, and daughter, Bernadina. A celebration of life will be held for all friends and family on Saturday, September 25, 9:00 a.m. at Venture church in Lizton. There will be a military honors burial at Fairview cemetery in North Salem, followed by a luncheon back at the church . Eric Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro will be handling the arrangements. JESSE MATTHEW VEGA, 18, of Avon, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021. Jesse was raised by his mother Amanda Galloway and stepfather Joe Galloway, along with father, Danny Vega and stepmother Amber Vega. He is survived by his brothers Evan Vega and Joseph Galloway III, and sisters Rachel and Vanessa Galloway. Jesse was born in Corona, Calif. on May 16, 2003. He graduated from Harris Academy through Avon High School in 2021. Jesse loved movies and flirted with the idea of working in film. Jesse has been skateboarding since age 8. In recent years Jesse was learning to play the guitar and the keyboard in order to find new methods of personal expression. Jesse was a spiritual young man who was a seeker for truth and meaning in life. He investigated many Christian churches and was an avid practicioner of mindfulness meditation and explored Buddhism. He spent many hours in Washington Township park being close to nature, which Jesse has loved since a young boy. Jesse touched the lives of so many people, and that, according to Ralph Waldo Emerson, is the ultimate measure of a successful life. Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion Center in Washington Township Park in Avon, Ind. FRED WILLIAM JONES “NEAL”, 80, of New Palestine, passed away on September 5, 2021. He was born on July 1, 1941 in Danville, Ill. to the late Fred Hutts Jones and Lucy Jane (Neild) Jones. Bill graduated from Plainfield High School in 1959 and then furthered his education at House of James Beauty College and Robert Fiance Academy in New York. “Neal” had a well-known hair styling career in Indianapolis for nearly 60 years and was a Design Instructor both in Jeffersonville and Indianapolis. He worked at Blocks, LS Ayres, and Jacobson’s. Bill was a veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching the Colts, and time spent with family. Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Ellen Jones; daughter, Jennifer I Norton; sons, Jason Garth Jones and Jordan Christopher Jones; grandchildren, Grant Christopher Jones and Caroline Marie Jones; and sister, Margaret (Jerry) Bayse. He was preceded in death by sisters, Martha Jones and Marcia “Susie” Jones. Services were Friday, September 10, 2021 at The Caring Place, Indianapolis. Arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. After retirement he drove a school bus for the Avon School Corporation for six years. John enjoyed woodworking and golfing in his free time. He coached the Outkast softball team for several years. John loved spending time with his family and friends whenever he could. He was known as grandpa to pretty much everyone in his life.
