MARILYN F. HILL

92, of Urbana, Illinois died Tuesday, August 17, 2021, during a visit to Las Cruces, N.M.

She was born Esther Marilyn Fisher on November 11, 1928, in Pittsboro, Ind., the only child of George Leroy Fisher and Frances Weaver Fisher. She attended school in Pittsboro, graduating co-valedictorian from Pittsboro High School in 1946, and then attended Purdue University, graduating summa cum laude in 1950 with a bachelor’s of science degree, with a particular focus on bacteriology.

Following graduation, Marilyn worked briefly as a research scientist at Eli Lilly in Indianapolis before marrying Richard M. Hill of Shelbyville, Ind., in 1952, whom she had met while she was a student at Purdue. The couple moved to New York City so Richard could attend Columbia University.

During this time, Marilyn took at job at ER Squibb & Co. While she was busy during the day, she helped her husband by tirelessly typing his papers and raising their first child, Martha, born in 1956. They enjoyed a busy, active life together until his death in 2010.

Besides her involvement with the activities of her children, grandchildren and members of her Clark-Lindsey retirement community, Marilyn actively served her beloved Salvation Army church family, participating for many years in band and songsters, teaching Sunday school, working with the disaster services canteen team, volunteering with social services and assisting with many of the Salvation Army’s charitable programs.

In addition to her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Robert.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha (Phil) Anderson of El Paso, Texas; two sons, Richard “Rick” (Bernice) of Lemont and John (Wendy) of Pittsboro, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter born shortly before her death.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Salvation Army Church and Worship Center, 502 N. Prospect Avenue in Champaign, Illinois with a reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army or Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.

MARY MARIE COUNTER

94, of Plainfield, passed away September 6, 2021.

She was born February 10, 1927 to the late Owen and Martha L. “Mattie” ( Jones) Pate in Evansville, Ind. She was a homemaker.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan L. Moore; a son, Roger D. “Rick” Kemp; a son-in-law, Phil Turner; special friends, Larry and Rachel Vest; 6 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Counter; a daughter, Geraldine L. Turner; a son-in-law, Butch Moore; a brother, Jack Pate; and two sisters, Helen Wilson and Dorothy Spencer.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, Ind.. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.

BEULAH BROCK

89, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 7, 2021.

She was born on March 22, 1932 in Livingston, Ky. to the late Lewis and Flaura (Hamilton) Renner. Beulah retired in 1993 as a nurses aid after 17 1/2 years for Hendricks Regional Health.

She was a member of the Plainfield First Assembly of God for many years. Beulah enjoyed quilting in her free time.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Sherman Brown and Clayton Brock; son, Dennis Brown; sister, Opal Roberts.

Funeral services were Saturday, September 11, 2021 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial followed in Clayton Cemetery.

Survivors include sons, Darryl and David Brown; 2 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.

OLUSEGUN ODEDINA

41, of Plainfield, passed away on September 10, 2021.

He was born on July 13, 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria to Abayomi Dehinde and Olubunmi Eniola Odedina. He graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University O.A.U. with a Bachelor’s Degree.

He was a member of the Lakeview Church in Indianapolis and R.C.C.G City of David Church in Lagos, Nigeria. Olusegun was also affiliated BAHM Church in Lagos, Nigeria. He loved spending quality time with family, friends and his church family both in Nigeria and here in the United States.

Olusegun has 19 years of experience in IT Client Technologies and Network Engineering. Olusegun pivoted into the paramilitary services starting as a Correctional Officer for about a year before joining Damar Services.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Abayomi Dehinde Odedina.

Funeral services were Wednesday, September 15, in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Plainfield. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his loving wife, Buokla Odedina; mother, Mrs. Olubunmi Eniola Odedina; children, Oluwaseun Michelle, Obanlaloluwa Jordan and Titobioluwa Jeremy Odedina; siblings, Eyimofeoluwa George, Yetunde Odedina, Adeyoola Adanijo; nephew, Okikiola Adanijo.

GLORIA CRYSTAL MAYO

90, of Plainfield, passed away on September 12, 2021.

She was born on July 24, 1931 in Belle Union, Ind. to the late Harold and Geraldine McCammack. Gloria was a waitress for 35 years at the Double Decker. She was a loving mother and a dedicated homemaker.

Gloria was a member of the Deer Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed crochet and doing puzzles in her free time. Gloria loved spending time with her family as often as she could.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mayo; brothers, Glenn and Ronnie McCammack.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 at noon in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon. Burial will follow in Stilesville Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen (Debbie) and Daryl (Lavona) Mayo; daughter, Teresa (Lonnie) Hassler; brother, Marshall McCammack; sister, Margie Zenor; 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

JACOB WARREN CARTER

30, of Avon, Indiana passed away on September 2, 2021.

Although taken from us much too soon, his impact was great on so many during his short time here on earth.

Jacob was a loving son, father, brother and friend to many. He was the first-born son to Greg and Lisa Carter of Avon, and was born on May 21, 1991.

He was survived by his parents and three brothers, Dillon Carter (and his wife Hannah), Jackson Carter and Spencer Carter. He was also survived by his two precious daughters, Lenore and Presley. Other survivors include his maternal grandmother, L. Ellen Rodgers of Indianapolis and his fraternal grandparents, Clyde Carter (and his wife Marsha) of Avon and Maxine Carter also of Avon. In addition, he was blessed with a family full of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Jake attended Brownsburg High School and was always known for his infectious smile and his ability to bring people together, and make everyone feel at home around him. Growing up Jake enjoyed anything involving the outdoors. He rode four wheelers, loved to camp and fish and just hang out with his dad and brothers.

Jake will be dearly missed, but we take comfort in the fact that he left this earth knowing that he was loved beyond measure.

MICHAEL RAYMOND SIEGEL

39, of London, England passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He was born in Miami, Florida to Sherlee Siegel Wilson and Raymond Siegel on January 11, 1982.

Michael graduated from the University of California, Irvine and worked as a Software Engineer for Sky (a telecommunications company) in London England. Michael loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, playing the guitar and drums, listening to music, admiring art, riding motorcycles, horseback riding and playing video games. Michael was a very kind and caring person who will be dearly missed by many.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Siegel; maternal grandmother, Francis Bagnatori; maternal grandfather, Harlold Bagnatori; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Delano; paternal grandfather, Del Delano; and his nieces, Lauren and Sarah Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Sherlee Wilson; brother, Christopher Johnson; sister, Sylvia Siegel; and his niece, Marissa Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg.

LORA R. SHOCKLEY-HAYWARD

53, Lizton, passed away September 11, 2021.

She had been a lifelong resident of Brownsburg and graduated from Brownsburg High School. She received her associate degree as a licensed practical nurse from Ivy Tech and worked in several health care facilities in the area, the most recent being Wellbrooke of Avon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Shockley.

Lora is survived by her daughter, Kaitlyn Foley; mother, Linda Shockley; fiancé, Andrew Billhymer; brother Lance Shockley (Bobbi Jo); sister, Cindy Shockley Hadley (Kyle); niece and nephews Sierra Shockley, Cody Shockley and Camden Hadley.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, Setpember 16, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. Burial will follow in Brownsburg Cemetery.

ROBERT ALLEN POWELL, SR.

86, passed away September 4, 2021.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores (McMillan). Robert was a resident of Brownsburg.

Robert was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 6th 1935. He graduated in 1953 from Clairton High School in Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After 16 years, he retired from Louisiana Pacific as a Territory Sales Manager.

Robert was a family man who worked very hard at whatever challenge he encountered. He competed as an excellent swimmer in High School and College. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed working as a ranger at a local golf course.

He is survived by sons Robert Allen (Penny) Powell Jr., Richard Wayne Powell and Steven Kenneth Powell; grandchildren Rees and Caroline Powell; and his brother Donald (Irene) Powell.

Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg.

JoANN CATHERINE (Faitz) TRI

was born on November 26 1933 in Trenton Illinois to Herbert and Elsie(Abel) Faitz. Jo Ann passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2021 with her family by her side.

JoAnn married Delbert Tri on March 8. 1951 in Trenton, Illinois where they lived until 1958. They then moved to Brownsburg, Indiana where JoAnn remained living the rest of her life.

Delbert and JoAnn had 9 children - Sheila Tucker, Charlene Eubanks (Bob), Darrell (Renee), Dwayne, Sharen Arney (Tim), Kevin (Leslie), Lynn Shipp (Rob), and Valerie Wilson (David).

Although JoAnn had many children of her own, the Tri household was home to so many more. Every child that knew her called her “Mom.”

Jo Ann never missed an opportunity to cook for anyone that walked through the door. The Tri fish fry was always a big event - JoAnn would fry fish for hours but never ate a bite because she didn’t like fish. She enjoyed her Bingo and Casino penny slots.

JoAnn was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of St. Malachy Church and devoutly attended every week until her health did not allow. Even then, she would watch church services on television.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband Delbert, sons Darrell and Dale.

JoAnn is survived by her brother Dwight Faitz, seven of her nine children, 16 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services were at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Brownsburg on Tuesday, September 14. Burial followed in St. Malachy Cemetery. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg.

BRIAN PETTIT

56, of Crawfordsville, passed away on September 11, 2021.

He was born in Indianapolis on June 15, 1965 to Edgar and Karen Pettit. Brian enjoyed watching football and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Brian had a passion for his Bronco as well.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Pettit. Funeral services will be Monday, September 20, 2021 at 6 p.m. in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may visit from 4 p.m. until time of service.

STEPHEN TERRY BILLINGTON

loving husband and father, 56, of North Salem Indiana passed away suddenly July 28, 2021.

Steve was born February 22, 1965 in Meunchweiler Germany Army Hospital to Robert and Barbara (Jones) Billington. He grew up in Mooresville, Indiana and Phoenix, Arizona. His father was a Baptist minister and Steve had a love for Jesus at an early age.

He loved God and his country, and served in the Army with the 2nd Infantry Division. He was stationed in Korea at the DMZ, and then later at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

Steve loved shooting and fly fishing. He made beautiful flies and was a member of the veterans organization Project Healing Waters. He also loved gardening and photography, and took beautiful photos while out fishing.

Those who knew Steve knew him as a gentle giant who was fiercely protective of his family and freedoms.

Of all of his accomplishments, his greatest was being a father to Sam. He was a loving and protective husband to his wife, Andy, for over 31 years.

Steve had wonderful friends growing up, Doug, Perry, James, Neil, and his best friend, Rick Jackson.

Steve leaves behind his wife, Andy, son Samuel, mother Barbara (Jones) Billington, ssters Cindy ( Billington) Daravanis, Kristi ( Billington ) Kessler, and brother David Billington.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Robert Billington, son, David, and daughter, Bernadina.

A celebration of life will be held for all friends and family on Saturday, September 25, 9:00 a.m. at Venture church in Lizton. There will be a military honors burial at Fairview cemetery in North Salem, followed by a luncheon back at the church .

Eric Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro will be handling the arrangements.

JESSE MATTHEW VEGA

18, of Avon, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021.

Jesse was raised by his mother Amanda Galloway and stepfather Joe Galloway, along with father, Danny Vega and stepmother Amber Vega.

He is survived by his brothers Evan Vega and Joseph Galloway III, and sisters Rachel and Vanessa Galloway.

Jesse was born in Corona, Calif. on May 16, 2003. He graduated from Harris Academy through Avon High School in 2021.

Jesse loved movies and flirted with the idea of working in film. Jesse has been skateboarding since age 8. In recent years Jesse was learning to play the guitar and the keyboard in order to find new methods of personal expression.

Jesse was a spiritual young man who was a seeker for truth and meaning in life. He investigated many Christian churches and was an avid practicioner of mindfulness meditation and explored Buddhism. He spent many hours in Washington Township park being close to nature, which Jesse has loved since a young boy.

Jesse touched the lives of so many people, and that, according to Ralph Waldo Emerson, is the ultimate measure of a successful life.

Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5 until 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Pavilion Center in Washington Township Park in Avon, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Department of Psychiatry at Indiana University School of Medicine or The Indiana University Psychotic Disorders Program.

ORCHID WESLEY

94, Brownsburg, passed away September 9, 2021.

She had been a catalog manager for Sears & Roebuck for over 25 years. She was a member of Charity Church, Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Wesley and a grandson Jeffrey Kristelli.

Survivors include daughters Joyce Chylla and Connie Kristelli (husband Robert); granddaughter Jennifer Davis; great grandchildren Aaron, Andrew, and Austin Davis.

FRED WILLIAM JONES “NEAL”

80, of New Palestine, passed away on September 5, 2021.

He was born on July 1, 1941 in Danville, Ill. to the late Fred Hutts Jones and Lucy Jane (Neild) Jones.

Bill graduated from Plainfield High School in 1959 and then furthered his education at House of James Beauty College and Robert Fiance Academy in New York. “Neal” had a well-known hair styling career in Indianapolis for nearly 60 years and was a Design Instructor both in Jeffersonville and Indianapolis. He worked at Blocks, LS Ayres, and Jacobson’s.

Bill was a veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching the Colts, and time spent with family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Ellen Jones; daughter, Jennifer I Norton; sons, Jason Garth Jones and Jordan Christopher Jones; grandchildren, Grant Christopher Jones and Caroline Marie Jones; and sister, Margaret (Jerry) Bayse.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Martha Jones and Marcia “Susie” Jones.

Services were Friday, September 10, 2021 at The Caring Place, Indianapolis. Arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home, Indianapolis.

JOHN NORRIS

71, of Avon, passed away in his home on September 8, 2021.

He was born in Indianapolis on August 19, 1950 to the late Ephrin Norris and Norma Basinger. John worked for Ameritech and retired after 33 years. After retirement he drove a school bus for the Avon School Corporation for six years.

John enjoyed woodworking and golfing in his free time. He coached the Outkast softball team for several years. John loved spending time with his family and friends whenever he could. He was known as grandpa to pretty much everyone in his life.

A Celebration Of Life will be at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m.

GERTRUDE L. GRUCA

age 96, of Plainfield, passed away on September 8, 2021 in her residence.

She was born on August 29, 1925 in Indianapolis to the late Frank and Mary James Angrick. She was the widow of Edward Joseph Gruca.

Gertrude was a homemaker. She loved to cook, especially for family gatherings, travel, doing crossword puzzles, a member of the Grandmothers Club, watching crime shows and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Memorial services took place Tuesday September 14, 2021 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with inurnment following in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.

JOYCE BENNETT

85, of Plainfield, passed away on September 10, 2021.

She was born in Byrdstown, Tenn. on September 3, 1936 to the late Walt and Ora Rich. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a dedicated homemaker. She was a member of the Center Community Church in Plainfield.

Joyce enjoyed taking walks on the trails at the park. She liked to cook and would always make sure everyone was full when dinner was done. Joyce would often read her Bible in her free time and loved spending time with her family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Bennett; son, Ronnie Bennett; brother, Ord Rich; sisters, Helen Robinson and Beth Talbott; daughter-in-law, Sandy Bennett.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the Center Community Church (5938 Sugar Grove Road, Plainfield) from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, September 17, at 11 a.m. in the church. JAMES G. “JIM” PERCIVAL

64, of Brownsburg, Ind, formerly of Effingham, Ill, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.

Jim was born on September 13, 1956, in Effingham, Ill., the son of Frank and Rosemary (Smith) Percival.

He had retired from Delta Airlines in 2020, after 33 years of service. He formerly worked for Hinkle-Percival Masonry in Effingham.

His father, Frank Percival, and a brother, Steve Percival, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Green Percival; daughters, Stefanie Percival-Wieckert (Adam) and Jamie Hildebrand (Luke); and mother, Rosemary Percival.

LINDA L. PLUNKETT

73, of Danville, passed away Wednesday morning, September 08, 2021, at I.U. West Hospital in Avon.

Funeral services were Monday, September 13, 2021 in Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home, Danville. Burial followed in New Winchester Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her husband, Darrel.

Linda was born October 31, 1947, in Indianapolis, to the late Robert and Martha (Denton) Sturm. She graduated from Danville High School with the class of 1965, and attended Indiana State University.

Linda married Darrel L. Plunkett in 1968; he preceded her in death in 2013.

She was a wonderful homemaker and had owned and operated Ventura Quilts in Danville for 12 years.

She was also a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville, and the Hendricks County Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her two sons, Jeff (Shari) Plunkett of North Salem, Jason Plunkett of Danville; two grandchildren; and her brother, Bob Sturm of North Salem.

DEBRA A. CRAIG

69, of Mooresville, passed away at Life’s Journey Hospice in Avon, Indiana on September 10, 2021 after a courageous battle with her health.

Debra was born on November 7, 1951, in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Donald and Elizabeth (Collins) Kern. On August 15, 1970 in Avon, Indiana, Debra was united in holy matrimony to her husband, William Craig, who survives.

Debra was a graduate of Avon High School in the class of 1970. The consummate homemaker, wife, and mother, Debra was heavily involved in Morgan County 4-H with their Home Economics and Foods projects, serving as superintendent for both. She was an incredible cook, most famous for her carrot cake and Pa’s pie.

Debra’s love for children and compassion for others led her to serve on the Board of Directors for Morgan County Right to Life. Her love for babies and motherhood was reflected through her passionate support of the La Leche League of Hendricks County, a program that assists new mothers in their breastfeeding journeys. Debra will be remembered for her devotion to those whom she loved and generous spirit; she will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, William Craig, and her daughter, Elizabeth Craig.

She was born on November 4, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Ralph and Pearl Lopossa. Barbara worked at Poe’s Cafeteria for many years. She loved spending time with her family.

Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Brissey; brothers, Ralph and Herman Lopossa; sisters, Leona Heifner and Vivian Eaton.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 21, 2021 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Clifford (Margarita) Wilson and Willa Wilson; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.

CHARLES W. “WES” MORELOCK

60, of Danville, passed away Wednesday evening, September 08, 2021, after an extended illness.

A memorial service took

place Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at the Hendricks County 4-H Community Building, North and South Auditorium. His cremains will be laid to rest next to his parents in Danville South Cemetery at a later date.“Wes” was born in Lebanon, Ind. on February 05, 1961, to the late Charles G. “Charlie” and Patricia “Pat” (Sanders) Morelock. He graduated from Danville High School with the class of 1979.

Wes worked with his father, Charlie, operating Morelock & Sons Excavating Service for many years as well as being employed by the Town of Brownsburg’s water treatment plant from 1995 to 2018. He was also a farrier by trade. Because of his love for horses, West as an active horseman with memberships in the Hendricks County Horse and Pony Club for 28 years, the Indiana Hoosier Horse Council, the Hendricks County Saddle Club, and also served as an American Quarter Horse Judge.

Wes attended the Hadley Friends Church.

Survivors include his sons, Tyler Morelock of Lebanon, Justin Wheat of Danville, grandson Wyatt Morelock, sisters, Susan “Susie” (Jim) Chezem, Jamie Sue Huffman, all of Danville, and nieces and nephews.

WALTER B. DUNCAN

80, Hebron, Ky., formerly of Brownsburg, passed away September 10, 2021.

He had been the manager of the Brownsburg Kroger Store as well as a lifetime Kroger employee for 42 years, retiring in 2002. Walter then became the director of the Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 Degree Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Ruth Duncan, brother, Delbert Duncan and a sister, Darlene Barnes. `Survivors include his daughter Kimberley Warner (husband Jay); sisters Patty Freije, Portia Jones and Marilyn Hewitt (husband Craig); brothers Mike Duncan (wife Jean), Randy Duncan (wife Peggy), and Rick Duncan (wife Gladys); grandchildren Michael Foreman and Abigail Foreman; great-granddaughter Maizey Akins; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday, September 15, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. Burial followed in Floral Park Cemetery.

CHRISTINE E. KNOPP

of Avon, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021. She was 101 years old.

Christine was born December 24, 1919 in Flemingsburg, Ky., the oldest of ten children. A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she took great joy in spending time with her family, gardening, canning vegetables and and baking. Christine retired from Western Electric after 25 years, where she had been a telephone assembler. Always guided by her faith, she was also a member of Kingsway Christian Church. She will be remembered as the kindest and gentlest of souls.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Knopp, parents Ernest and Della Earlywine, son Robert Knopp, siblings Richard Earlywine, Delbert Earlywine, Sam Earlywine, Edith Kerns, Lillian Davis, Millie Doyle and Norma Whitmill.

Christine is survived by her son Larry Knopp; daughter-in-law Juanita Knopp; sisters Shirley Vice and Sue Lee; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville, Ind., after private family services.

CLAIRE L. BIRKLA

67, of Clermont, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, September 09, 2021, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2021, in Weaver & Randolph Funeral Home, Danville. Burial will follow in K. of P. Cemetery at Lizton. Visitation took place at the funeral home, Wednesday, September 15.

Claire was born in Indianapolis to the late Marvin and Elizabeth (Lynch) Smith. She graduated from Avon High School with the class of 1972.

Clair had been an account service representative for the U.S. Food Service for 40 years, retiring in 2018.

She was a member of Connection Pointe Church in Brownsburg and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son, David (Brandi) Birkla of Lizton; granddaughter,Vivian Birkla; sisters, Susie Davis of Danville, Sandy Scholz of Walton, Ind., Rebecca Smith of Indianapolis, Jennie Smith of Plainfield, Patty Smith of Avon; and a brother, Michael Smith of Ormond Beach, Fla.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents, is a sister, Tina Johnson.

JULIE ANN (Small) JEFFERS

64, of Plainfield, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021. She was born August 31, 1957 in Indianapolis to her parents, Randall and Susan (Jaynes) Small. She married Ralph Jeffers on May 1, 1998. She was a resident of Indianapolis for most of her life.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Ralph Jeffers of Plainfield; her daughter Kyle Taylor Keller of Indianapolis; her mother, Susan Small of Camby; one brother, Craig Small of Camby; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special relationship with Marley.

Julie is preceded in death by her father, Randall Small.

Julie was a 1975 graduate of Decatur Central High School. She worked as a Secretary for many years. Julie was an artist and took great pride in being very gifted at sketching. She was also the only female member of The Punkin Holler Boys. Julie loved being around horses and loved to ride them. She also was a dedicated 4-H leader as well. Julie was known for greatly loving her family and being supportive of others. She will be remembered for being the one to always willingly lend a helping hand to those around her.

Family and friends may show their love and support for a memorial gathering from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, at Jones Crossing Banquet Center. Mooresville. A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. following the gathering at the banquet center. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.

SETH BERNARD LEWIS

80, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, after an 15-month battle with cancer.

Seth, the oldest of four children was born to the late William B. Lewis and Anna Margaret (Daringer) Lewis on October 19, 1940 in Indianapolis. During his high school years, his family relocated to Warsaw, Ind., where he graduated in 1957 from Warsaw High School. Upon graduation, he attended Butler University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and was the captain of the debate team for the university, which won the college national championship.

After earning his undergraduate degree at Butler, he attended Notre Dame Law School and Indiana University School of Law, where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1966. He was admitted to the Indiana State Bar in May of 1966 and began practicing law in Danville, Ind., where he maintained a practice for over 55 years.

During his legal career, he was both in private practice and was elected to the office of Hendricks County Prosecutor, serving two terms. He was a member of the Hendricks County Bar Association and the Indiana Bar Association.

He was an avid sports fan, enjoying baseball, football, golf, basketball, and auto racing. One of his fondest memories he would share was his first trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at eight years old with his father.

He is survived by his six children, Jennifer Milnes (Vincent), Betsy Bennett, Andy Lewis, Carrie Klute (Derek), Emily Cordova (Patrick), and Katie Pentek (Mike), as well as his sisters, Clare Troy and Cynthia Ballantyne. In addition, he is survived by his 6 grandchildren, Shannon Richardson (Ryan), Mikki Klute, Mason Phillips, Collin Phillips, Nicholas Pentek, Emma Pentek and a great-grandson, Lincoln Richardson. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Lewis Patrick. A private mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Queen of Peace in Danville, Ind.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home in Danville. The family wishes to express thanks to the medical team at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, especially all the nurses in the IV Unit. Thank you to the many caregivers who helped Seth and family along the way at Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield. infant daughter of Brenna Breen and Jeremiah Gist, passed away on September 12, 2021 in Community Hospital South.

She was dearly loved by her parents; brothers, J. R. and Kaleb Gist; grandparents, Leslie Culbertson, Bryan Breen, Tammy and David Gist; uncles, Devin Breen, Isaac Lukes, Michael Gist; aunt, Nancy Gist; great grandparents, Jennifer Wagner, Jerry Woods; great aunts, Shannon Robidoux and Kasey McDaniel.

age 59, Greencastle, passed away September 13, 2021.

She was born on November 12, 1961 in Greencastle, to Morris and Judith Parker Wilcox. Jamie loved art, pool, bowling, movies, time with roommate, and her family.

She is survived by her sister,Vicki Black, Greencastle; nephew, Parker Thomas Black, Greencastle; and a niece, Sophia W. Black, Greencastle. She was preceded by her parents. Graveside memorial services will be held with family and friends in the Amo Cemetery.

TYLER C. HAGAN

of Plainfield, passed away September 7, 2021 in Evansville, Ind.

Born October 12, 1998 in Kazakhstan, he was adopted by his loving mother, Cathy J. (Daum) Hagen at the age of two and brought home to Plainfield. He attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and ultimately graduated from Plainfield High School in 2017. He was currently a senior at the University of Southern Indiana studying Pre-Med.

Tyler was a very accomplished gymnast and cheerleader and recently found a love of baking.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his older brother, Tony (wife, Stephanie) Hagen; nephew Connor James Hagen; grandparents, Frances J Daum and Ralph E Daum, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and a host of loving friends.

A celebration of Tyler’s life will take place on October 10, 2021 from 1 -5 p.m, at the Hendricks County FOP Lodge, 5518 S CR 750E, Plainfield, Ind. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charities in Tyler’s memory.
