Gospel Music Coming To Lizton United Methodist
The Lizton United Methodist Church will welcome Jim Hutson, gospel music solo artist and DJ for WYGS (Southern Gospel Music) in Columbus, Ind. for a fun-filled church service on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 9 a.m. The church is located at 120 Brumfield Church, Lizton. ______________________________________________
Pittsboro Christian Church Hosts Fish Fry, July 3rd The Pittsoboro Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invites you to their Fish Fry on Saturday, July 3, at Scamahorn Park, part of the Town of Pittsboro’s Freedom Celebration. Service will be from 2 to 8 p.m. The menu includes fish, hot dogs, pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni & cheese, French fries, slaw, desserts and drinks. Kids meals and carry-out will be available. The Freedom Celebration Parade will begin at 2 p.m. and fireworks will begin at dusk. ______________________________________________
BARBARA ANN (Gray) WATKINS, 80, of Jasonville, Ind., passed away at 8:28 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2021 in Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Ind. She was born January 9, 1941 in Indianapolis, to Cero R. Gray and Sarah L. (Parnell) Gray. Barbara married James Ray Watkins January 8, 1983, he passed away on October 17, 2000. Survivors include her children, Teresa Dunigan of Salem, Ind., Tonia Hamilton of Linton, Ind., Scott Huddleston (Aimee) of Jasonville, Ind.; step-children, Donald Watkins (Deanna) of Indiana, Kathy Howell (Lester) of Indiana, Vickey Summers of Kentucky, Jamie Watkins (Linda) of Kentucky; grandchildren, Sarah Teague, Amanda Hamilton, James Hamilton, Melissa Slough, Brittany Huddleston, Michael Huddleston, NaStasha Dunigan; great-grandchildren, Dylan Jerrell, Brian Hamilton, AlacZamdra Jerrell, Alexis Keene, Cady Hamilton, Peyton Jerrell, Liam Hamilton, Mason Hamilton, Colton Slough, Gracelyn Slough, Silas Teague, Daveaya Teague, Josie Teague, Anna Slough, Caleb Slough, Isaiah Hamilton, LaShay Dunigan; step-grandchidren, Victoria, Nicole, Leslie, Johnny, Jo, Denny, James, Chrystal, Chris, Destiney, Shi, Morgan, Jim, Gary, Donald. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Bryan Huddleston; step-son, Daniel Watkins; step-daughter, Sheila Miller; brother, Robert Gray. Barbara worked at a hardware store retiring after over 20 years of service. She was a restaurant owner, farmer’s wife and butcher shop owner. Barbara enjoyed writing in her journal of daily happenings, being outside, watching grand kids and great-grandkids, country cruzing, meeting new people, bowling and sewing. Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Ind. Services were Tuesday, June 29, with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating. Interment at Felts Cemetery in Auburn, Ky. ___________________________________________________ SANDRA KAYE NELSON, age 73, of Hazelwood, passed away June 22, 2021 in Plainfield. Born February 29, 1948 in Siler City, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Sylvan J. Salsman and Frances K. (Barker) Salsman. She married Edward Nelson and he survives. Sandra worked as a Secretary to Superintendent at the Indiana Correctional Facility. She was the Avon Lady for several years. She was a member of the Hazelwood Christian Church, Womens Auxillary for Hazelwood Volunteer Fire Department, Hazelwood Community Association, Tri Kappa, Euchre Club, and was a huge Elvis Fan. Survivors include her husband; daughter Angelia Wood and husband Robert; son Clinton Nelson and wife Amber, of Clayton; grandchildren, Robert Wood II, Thomas Wood, Hunter DeHart, Chandler Nelson, and Tyler Nelson; sister Pam Harvey and husband Mike, of Martinsville; brother Donnie Salsman and wife Peggy, of Clayton; sister-in-law Carrie (Thomas) Salsman of Speedway, and a niece and two nephews. She was preceded by her parents and a brother Danny Salsman. Services were Monday, June 28, at Hazelwood Christian Church with Pastor Steve Ranson officiating. Burial followed in the Center Valley Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to The Gathering Together Hospice, 147 N. Center St, Plainfield, IN 46168. ___________________________________________________

DR. ROBERT (DR. BOB) TIPTON of Avon, passed away on Friday evening, June 18, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He finally found peace after a 5 1/2 year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme – Grade 4 Primary Brain Cancer. He was born on November 6, 1943 in Lebanon, Tenn., the son of Douglas and Frances Louisa (Donnell) Tipton. Dr. Bob graduated from Gallatin High School in 1961. He went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University (1965) and University of Tennessee College of Medicine (1968). He then went on to begin a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Genetics at Johns Hopkins Hospital, before starting and completing his Internship and Residency in Pediatrics in 1971 at University of Tennessee Medical Units and City of Memphis Hospitals. Afterwards, he completed his postdoctoral training in Medical Genetics, graduating in 1973, also from University of Tennessee, Memphis. After Medical School, Dr. Bob fulfilled his military obligation with the United States Air Force, becoming Pediatric Staff and Genetics Consultant. Dr. Bob achieved the rank of Major and spent two years at Scott Air Base in Belleville, Ill. After being honorably discharged, Dr. Bob worked as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Family Medicine at University of Tennessee Medical Units in Memphis, Tenn, until 1980, when he joined Memphis Children’s Clinic in private Pediatric practice. In early January 1988, Bob began his fellowship in Neonatology, completing in late 1989, then joining East Memphis Neonatologists, Memphis, where he practiced at Baptist Hospital until 2003 when serious illness forced him to take a leave of absence. He later joined Pediatric Associates, Memphis and remained there until moving to Lafayette, Ind. in 2008 to again practice Neonatology with Lafayette Neonatal Associates, covering hospital Neonatal Units in Lafayette, Terre Haute and Valparaiso, Ind. In 2013, he began licensing in multiple states and practicing as an independent locum tenens. Eventually, he was licensed and practiced as a Pediatrician/Neonatologist in 10 states, with his final assignment in Southeast Alabama, where he fell ill, which led to the diagnosis of Brain Cancer in Fall 2015. It was in Lafayette where he met his wife, Beth and they were married. They celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on June 1. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Robert, Jr. Surviving in addition to Beth, are his daughter Mary Elisabeth; step-children Casey (Craig) Richey of Avon, and Adam (Nikki) Windhorst of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother Doug (Yvonne) Tipton of Wilmington, Del.; nephews Franklin (Libby) Tipton of Mill Valley, Calif. and Bryan (Twiggy) Tipton of Alexandria Va.; great nieces and nephews and many Donnell cousins located all over the United States and Australia. He also leaves behind his beloved goldendoodle, Derby. Anyone who met Dr. Bob would soon know about his love of ‘his babies’ – the critically ill infants he lived to care for, his love of beautiful and fast cars, his love of animals, his love of being physically active, his love of tennis, his love of family, his love of traveling, his love of reading, his love of good food and wine, his love of a good glass of scotch and a fine cigar, his love of telling jokes and stories and his incredibly generous spirit. For the entirety of Bob’s illness, he was treated at the IU Health Neuroscience Center in Indianapolis. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Edward Dropcho, MD and Drew Geiser, RN for their generosity of time, kindness and attention that was always available to Bob and Beth. Also, a great amount of gratitude to Premier Hospice for the respect and genuine kindness shown to the entire family during Bob’s last days. A private Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date. The family asks that, if you knew Dr. Bob, to please celebrate in his honor, remembering how his life touched yours in a joyous way.
