BARBARA ANN (Gray) WATKINS

80, of Jasonville, Ind., passed away at 8:28 P.M. Wednesday, June 23, 2021 in Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, Ind.

She was born January 9, 1941 in Indianapolis, to Cero R. Gray and Sarah L. (Parnell) Gray.

Barbara married James Ray Watkins January 8, 1983, he passed away on October 17, 2000.

Barbara worked at a hardware store retiring after over 20 years of service. She was a restaurant owner, farmer’s wife and butcher shop owner. Barbara enjoyed writing in her journal of daily happenings, being outside, watching grand kids and great-grandkids, country cruzing, meeting new people, bowling and sewing.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street; Jasonville, Ind. Services were Tuesday, June 29, with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating. Interment at Felts Cemetery in Auburn, Ky.

SANDRA KAYE NELSON

age 73, of Hazelwood, passed away June 22, 2021 in Plainfield.

Born February 29, 1948 in Siler City, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Sylvan J. Salsman and Frances K. (Barker) Salsman. She married Edward Nelson and he survives.

Sandra worked as a Secretary to Superintendent at the Indiana Correctional Facility. She was the Avon Lady for several years.

She was a member of the Hazelwood Christian Church, Womens Auxillary for Hazelwood Volunteer Fire Department, Hazelwood Community Association, Tri Kappa, Euchre Club, and was a huge Elvis Fan.

Survivors include her husband; daughter Angelia Wood and husband Robert; son Clinton Nelson and wife Amber, of Clayton; grandchildren, Robert Wood II, Thomas Wood, Hunter De- Hart, Chandler Nelson, and Tyler Nelson; sister Pam Harvey and husband Mike, of Martinsville; brother Donnie Salsman and wife Peggy, of Clayton; sister-in-law Carrie (Thomas) Salsman of Speedway, and a niece and two nephews.

She was preceded by her parents and a brother Danny Salsman.

Services were Monday, June 28, at Hazelwood Christian Church with Pastor Steve Ranson officiating. Burial followed in the Center Valley Cemetery. The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to The Gathering Together Hospice, 147 N. Center St, Plainfield, IN 46168.

DR. ROBERT (DR. BOB) TIPTON

of Avon, passed away on Friday evening, June 18, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loved ones. He finally found peace after a 5 1/2 year battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme – Grade 4 Primary Brain Cancer.

He was born on November 6, 1943 in Lebanon, Tenn., the son of Douglas and Frances Louisa (Donnell) Tipton. Dr. Bob graduated from Gallatin High School in 1961. He went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University (1965) and University of Tennessee College of Medicine (1968). He then went on to begin a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Genetics at Johns Hopkins Hospital, before starting and completing his Internship and Residency in Pediatrics in 1971 at University of Tennessee Medical Units and City of Memphis Hospitals. Afterwards, he completed his postdoctoral training in Medical Genetics, graduating in 1973, also from University of Tennessee, Memphis.

After Medical School, Dr. Bob fulfilled his military obligation with the United States Air Force, becoming Pediatric Staff and Genetics Consultant. Dr. Bob achieved the rank of Major and spent two years at Scott Air Base in Belleville, Ill.

After being honorably discharged, Dr. Bob worked as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Family Medicine at University of Tennessee Medical Units in Memphis, Tenn, until 1980, when he joined Memphis Children’s Clinic in private Pediatric practice. In early January 1988, Bob began his fellowship in Neonatology, completing in late 1989, then joining East Memphis Neonatologists, Memphis, where he practiced at Baptist Hospital until 2003 when serious illness forced him to take a leave of absence. He later joined Pediatric Associates, Memphis and remained there until moving to Lafayette, Ind. in 2008 to again practice Neonatology with Lafayette Neonatal Associates, covering hospital Neonatal Units in Lafayette, Terre Haute and Valparaiso, Ind. In 2013, he began licensing in multiple states and practicing as an independent locum tenens. Eventually, he was licensed and practiced as a Pediatrician/Neonatologist in 10 states, with his final assignment in Southeast Alabama, where he fell ill, which led to the diagnosis of Brain Cancer in Fall 2015.

It was in Lafayette where he met his wife, Beth and they were married. They celebrated their eighth wedding anniversary on June 1.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Robert, Jr.

Surviving in addition to Beth, are his daughter Mary Elisabeth; step-children Casey (Craig) Richey of Avon, and Adam (Nikki) Windhorst of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother Doug (Yvonne) Tipton of Wilmington, Del.; nephews Franklin (Libby) Tipton of Mill Valley, Calif. and Bryan (Twiggy) Tipton of Alexandria Va.; great nieces and nephews and many Donnell cousins located all over the United States and Australia. He also leaves behind his beloved goldendoodle, Derby.

Anyone who met Dr. Bob would soon know about his love of ‘his babies’ – the critically ill infants he lived to care for, his love of beautiful and fast cars, his love of animals, his love of being physically active, his love of tennis, his love of family, his love of traveling, his love of reading, his love of good food and wine, his love of a good glass of scotch and a fine cigar, his love of telling jokes and stories and his incredibly generous spirit.

For the entirety of Bob’s illness, he was treated at the IU Health Neuroscience Center in Indianapolis. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Edward Dropcho, MD and Drew Geiser, RN for their generosity of time, kindness and attention that was always available to Bob and Beth. Also, a great amount of gratitude to Premier Hospice for the respect and genuine kindness shown to the entire family during Bob’s last days.

A private Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date. The family asks that, if you knew Dr. Bob, to please celebrate in his honor, remembering how his life touched yours in a joyous way. Those who wish to remember Bob in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the following;

HERBERT “HERB” QUANDT

90, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 29, 2021, in Danville, Indiana.

Herb was born on November 25, 1930 in Bruceville, Indiana to the late Omar and Mildred (Patterson) Quandt. Born during the Great Depression in 1930, Herb is one of 10 siblings in a very close family!

Herb was a graduate of Arsenal Tech High School, where he lettered in Football as Captain of the Team and Wrestling as AAU State Champion. He attended Michigan State University on a wrestling scholarship.

In 1952, he was deployed to Okinawa, Japan to serve in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Owning his first business with his brother Bud, a filling station at 30th and College at the age of 20, the sign out front read, “Never Fear, the Quandt’s Are Here.” A serial inventor, a regular “Walter Mitty”, Herb reveled in the opportunity to create a solution to any problem. He was an avid salesman and worked many years in the industrial material industry, supplying to Little Tyke toys, which made up most of our childhood toy collection. Herb worked through his 90th year at KIDS Custom Covers, a business he built in honor of his children.

Herb enjoyed flipping houses and managing properties and was known to show up at his kids’ houses with his toolbox ready to get to work. Hosting family and friends around the dinner table brought him more joy than we can count, always making a sandwich or a bourbon and coke for anyone who could come by.

One of his most favored roles was Pop-Pop to his many grandchildren. The constant encourager, Herb’s hype-game was unmatched in lifting our spirits, up to the very end. While he may not have made his goal of hitting 100 years old, we find comfort in knowing he loved who he loved with passion, compassion and a never-ending willingness to lend a hand.

Survivors include his children, Debbie Wilhelmus (Gary), Michael “Herb, Jr.” Quandt, Beth May (Steven), all of Kentucky, Kay Hickey (Ed) of California, Scott Quandt (Jenny) of Danville, Lindsay Quandt Obaji (Konye) of Carmel, Susannah Quandt (Chris) of Danville, Cassandra Quandt (Derrick) of Trafalgar, siblings, Bud Quandt, Betty Quandt Clark, Phillip Quandt, all of Florida, Shirley Q. Smith-Potter of North Carolina; like-a-son Adamir Rocha (Sylvia) of Indianapolis; 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

His parents, daughter, Jacqueline Quandt and siblings, Donald, Paul, John, William Quandt and Mary Quandt Averitt, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 1 pm on Friday, July 2, 2021 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow in the Danville South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time in the funeral home. All are welcome at a celebration of life for Herb at 5 p.m. at 482 E. Broadway in Danville. REGINA “JEANNIE” WEBER SCOTT

75, passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, on June 19, 2021.

Regina lived her life fully, enjoying many roles. She was a long-time secondary school teacher, an award-winning ballroom dancer, a stage actress and director, a historical reenactment performer and tour guide for the Benjamin Harrison home and West Baden Springs Hotel and Dome, a volunteer to help mentally challenged adults with life skills and struggling children in school. Everything Regina did in life she accomplished it all with excellence and grace. Regina was a devoted wife of 55 years, a mother, and a wonderful grandmother.

Regina was born January 1, 1946 to Joe and Doris Weber in Hammond, Indiana. She lived also in California and Pennsylvania, before spending her high school and college years in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There she married Eugene Scott and moved to Indiana, where they lived for the rest of her life. Regina counted herself very blessed to have been able to spend much of her time with her grandchildren throughout their growing up years, known lovingly as Mamaw.

Regina’s last earthly home was in Clayton, where she attended Clayton Presbyterian Church and enjoyed Bible study with her good friends there.

Regina is survived by her husband, Eugene Scott; her daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Mike Peyton and their children, Zac and Allie Johnson; her son, Keith Scott; and her brothers, Robert (Susan) Weber, and Daniel (Michelle) Weber. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Josephus C. and Doris Broyles Weber, and her brother, Josephus E. (Rita) Weber.

SHIRLEY ANN (Kern) ADAMS

age 88, of Avon, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, with family by her side.

She was born on Friday, April 21, 1933 to Louis Joseph and Mildred (Nosek) Kren, in North Judson, Indiana. `She was preceded in death by Louis Joseph and Mildred (Nosek) Kren, brother Thomas Kren.

She is survived by son John Michael (wife Rebecca) Adams, daughter Nancy Heater, 3 grandchildren Amanda, Michael, Miles, 1 great granddaughter on the way, and extended family and friends.

Indiana Memorial was honored to serve the Adams family.

PAULINE E. COOK

80, of Brownsburg, passed away on June 20, 2021. Pauline was born on February 25, 1941, to the late Bryan and Verna (Fox) Norman.

Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Richard Cook.

She is survived by her daughters, Allison (Brian) Newby, and Karen Burner; grandchildren, Kaylee Vigil, Tyler Newby, Ryann Nevins, Alex Burner, Lindsey Burner, and Aubree Burner.

Pauline graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in West Virginia, in 1963 and was a RN until she retired in 1992.

Services were Sunday, June 27, at Hope Community Church, Brownsburg. Burial followed the service at Brownsburg Cemetery. Arrangements: Indiana Funeral Care, Indianapolis.

GERALD “WAYNE” PETERS

72, of Clayton, passed away on June 18, 2021 in Stilesville.

He was born on May 26, 1949 to Harold C. and Martha (Stevens) Peters in Noblesville, Indiana.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1968 and was honorably discharged in 1972. In 1980 he re-enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. During his years in the Army Reserves, he was also a member of several competitive marksmanship teams and traveled the United States competing with great success. Wayne retired with the rank of Sergeant Major in 2009.

Wayne worked for 29 years as a Technical Analyst for Indiana Insurance/Liberty Mutual Insurance, but his heart was foremost with the Army Reserves. Wayne’s insatiable thirst for knowledge earned him many degrees during his lifetime, but the history of military firearms was his passion.

Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Stevens) Peters, father, Harold C. Peters and brother, Leroy Peters. He is survived by his nephew, Richard Dale Peters. While Wayne never married, he was an adopted dad and grandpa to many and was truly loved until the end. With his gentle, caring nature he was a friend to everyone. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

A private Celebration of Life will held by his family and friends at a later date.

Indiana Memorial was honored to serve the Peters family.

PATRICIA GRACE PROPES

age 75, of Coatesville, passed away June 26, 2021 in the Mill Pond Health Center in Greencastle.

Born September 6, 1945 in Bloomington, Ind., she was the daughter of Richard Feldman and Bessie Marie Feldman. She married Jack Propes and he survives.

Grace had worked at Sysco Food Serices for 18.5 years and then at Hendricks Regional Health in the Diet and Nutrician Services for 8.5 years.

She was raised in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and later baptised in the Jehovahs Witness Church. She loved running with her grandkids, coke and pizza.

Survivors in addition to her husband include a son Richard Propes, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Joshua Isaih Propes, Denton James Propes and Jackson Albert Propes; a brother Bob Feldman and wife Judy, Castleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, a son Joshua D. Propes, a brrother and 2 sisters preceded her.

Services are Thursday, July 1, at 1 p.m. in the Bousley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery at Heritage Lake. www.bousleyfuneralhome.com

KEITH KOMANIECKI

58, Brownsburg, passed away on June 22, 2021 with his wife Gwen, by his side.

He was born on May 31, 1963 and raised in Burbank, Illinois.

He is preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn Komaniecki, and step-father, Daniel Smithy.

Keith leaves behind his loving wife of 29 years, Gwen; mother, Peg Smithy; brother Steven (Susan) Koman; sister, Christine (Bryan) Robinson, many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Keith had a mechanical mind he used to build his career installing and repairing production and automotive equipment, Kokusai being his last place of employment.

Keith’s younger days were spent playing softball and football; he even umpired boys baseball games. He enjoyed traveling to different countries for business and pleasure. These travels gave him a love for photography and adventure. When home he spent his time with his wife, bulldogs and his endless project list. Keith didn’t have children but he was all about family.

Celebration of Keith’s life will be in Brownsburg, with details to follow.

SHARON L. SHANER

85, of Danville, passed away June 23, 2021.

She was born on June 17, 1936 in South Bend, Ind., to the late Dorothy M. Johnson and Roy E. Thornburg. She married Amyl Lee Shaner, Jr. on August 20, 1965 in South Bend.

Sharon was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was an active member of her church, First Assembly of God in Danville. She enjoyed sewing, coloring, and visiting with family and friends. Sharon was a breast cancer survivor and had participated in events, both locally and nationally.

Survivors include her sons, Mike (Melissa) Shaner of Avon, Doug Hand of Ohio; brother, Lester (Priscilla) Thornburg of Traverse City, Michigan; grandchildren, Kiley, Brayden, Callen, Heather, Cody, Christine, Doug and 4 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Whitney, Anna and Malia. Her parents, husband and daughter, Diana Pedigo, preceded her in death.

Services were Tuesday, June 29, at First Assembly of God Church, Danville. Burial followed in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. Baker Funeral Home in Danville is handling the arrangements. REVEREND DANIEL S. CRAMER

66, passed away June 22, 2021.

He was a Pre-School Director for Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Edward and Roberta Walton Cramer.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Carla Fuller Cramer; son, Jordan (Jenna) Cramer; brothers, David (Debbie) Cramer and Joel (Debbie) Cramer; sister, Dorrie (Greg) Rumple and grandchild, Addalyn Merriman.

Services were Monday, June 28, at Grace Pointe Church of the Nazarene, Avon. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.

His chapel services were a highlight for the children enrolled in the daycare programs he served in a 40-year career.

He wrote extensively on his Facebook pages about what he was learning about faith and difficult times.

Daniel had been an avid bicyclist in earlier years and was a skilled woodworker. One of his great pleasures was finding out of the way places to take Carla for breakfast on Saturday mornings in his beloved Miata.

ROBERT “BOB” TERRY

73, of Plainfield, passed away June 15, 2021 after a four month struggle with cancer.

Bob was born March 13, 1948 to Robert E. and G. Berndene Burton Terry in Indianapolis. Graduating from Thomas Carr Howe High School in June 1966 he began his 33 year career at Eli Lilly the next day.

January 29, 1967 Bob married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Hardin. They met two weeks before they started high school at the age of 14.

Bob served his country as a U.S. Army medic with a hospital unit for six years as a reservist.

He came to know the Lord Jesus as his personal Savior in Oct. 1976 in a small country church in Lyford Indiana.

Bob had a great knowledge of cars, but his big love was food. Loving nature of all and every kind, he could identify almost any tree by its bark. Taught friends and family to fish, and was the family go-to guy for car questions, home improvement projects, and anything you needed to know. His greatest joy was his family, especially his seven grandchildren!

Preceding him in death were his parents, Bob and Bernadene Terry, and his only sibling, Randall Terry.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife Carolyn, his precious daughters, Amy Taylor (Tim), and Angie Felty (Ron). Grandchildren, Jackson Taylor, McClain Felty (Lindsey), Sutton Felty, Caroline Gibson (Noah), Stone Felty (Morgan), Elise Taylor and McCall Felty; and new great-granddaughter, Finley Gibson.

A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date to be determined. Arrangements: Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, Indianapolis.

BRANDON LEE TURPIN

35, of Plainfield, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021.

He was born February 14,1986 in Danville, to parents, Danny Lee Turpin and Glenda Karen (Gray) Turpin- Burns.

Brandon is survived by his wife, Danielle Marie Collins; daughter, Falyn Marie Turpin of Plainfield; mother, Glenda Karen (Gray) Turpin-Burns of Plainfield; sister, Suzanne (Terry) Mobley of Indianapolis; nieces: Victoria, Amanda, and Gabrielle; and uncle, Forrest “Sonny” Gray.

Brandon is preceded in death by his father, Danny Lee Turpin.

Brandon was a 2004 graduate of Plainfield High School. He was a plumber in the Indianapolis area over 12 years for R&R Plumbing and Heating and recently Shahan Plumbing.

Brandon enjoyed working on cars and building RC cars. He was an artist, liked to garden and build things. Brandon enjoyed being outdoors, going camping, hiking, fishing and spending time with his daughter, Falyn.

Memorial services were Monday, June 28, at Jones Family Mortuary, Mooresville, with. Dustin Dummel officiating. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.

WILLIAM WOODROW “Woody” BAR- TON

90, of Spencer, passed away on June 25, 2021.

He was born November 23, 1930 in Crawfordsville to the late Edward Otis and Lulu May (Hauser) Barton. He graduated from Linden High School then earned a BSME from Purdue University.

He married Margaret Ann Davis on November 8, 1953, raising four children and sharing much joy in their 63 years together. His engineering career spanned 40 years at Allison Division of General Motors where he enjoyed traveling and working with many wonderful people. He also served in the US Army.

Woody was an active member of Plainfield and Spencer Christian Churches, Linden Alumni, Purdue Alumni, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, OES, Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners, and the Owen County Historical Society. He and Ann lovingly cared for their Spencer tree farm, and teaching forest stewardship.

Surviving are sons, William David (Sandra) Barton and Donald (Connie) Barton; daughter, Rebecca (Kevin) Bayless; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ann, sister Freda, and son Daniel.

Funeral services took place Wednesday, June 30, at Matthews Mortuary in Brownsburg. Graveside services followed in Linden Cemetery, Linden, Ind.. Donations may be made to Spencer First Christian Church, 157 S. Montgomery St., Spencer, IN 47460.

BETTY JEAN (Francis) JAYNES

94, of Brownsburg, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021.

She was born on August 11, 1926, to Rosa and Rolla Francis. She married Harold K. Jaynes.

Betty worked until the age of 84 for the Brownsburg Community School Corporation as a Bus Aide. She loved her interactions with both the students and her work colleagues. She had been a long-time member of Calvary United Methodist Church and was a Girl Scout Leader, Band Box Mom, and volunteered in many other activities. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, antiquing, and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Harold K. Jaynes, her sister, Marjorie Cloncs, and her parents.

Survivors include her children: Vicki Jackson, Lynn (Karon) Jaynes; grandchildren: Whitney (Charles) Swain, Erin (Grant) Curry, Tiffany (Johnson) Jaynes-Black; her beloved sisters: Barbara Pierucki, Marilyn Plasters; great-grandchildren: Preston Curry, Gavin Curry, David Swain, Amelie Jaynes-Black.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service took place Saturday, June 26, at Calvary United Methodist Church, Brownsburg. Memorial contributions can be made to Calvary UMC at her memorial service or online at www.calvaryunited.org.
