Danville Community Middle School Presents Awards

Danville Community Middle School presented special awards at the end of the school year. The Top 8th Grade Academic Awards are usually given to one girl and one boy. This year there was a tie with the boys, so an extra award was presented.

The Noel A. Peters Award is given to one boy and one girl in the eighth grade, picked by the middle school and voted on by the staff. Qualities of the award are the three R’s and Mr. Peters added a fourth R for responsibility, as well as attitude, citizenship and typically athletics.

The N. Michael Peters Award is given to one boy and one girl in the seventh grade picked by the middle school and voted on by the staff. Qualities of the award are integrity, empathy, school spirit, responsibility, sense of humor, and friendliness.

Allocation Funds Aid Economic Development

Danville acted at the May 19 Council meeting to create two Allocation Funds. What are Allocation Funds? These are funds generated by excess property tax proceeds in the designated Allocation Areas that are used to further the goals of the Economic Development Plan. The Economic Development Plan was created by the Danville Redevelopment Commission. Once the Allocation areas are established the Council must then create an Allocation Fund for these monies to be deposited for future development incentives. The two areas designated for these funds last week were the Downtown Main #1 and East Main Corridor. See map above for location of these two areas, outlined in white. Once these areas are funded, the RDC can allow the use of these funds for private or public redevelopment in those areas. To keep up on the actions of the Redevelopment Commission, you can attend their regularly scheduled meetings on the first Thursday of the month at 5:00 pm at Danville Town Hall. Check the Town website to verify meeting dates. ______________________________________________________________________________________________
