Danville Rotary Corps Serves the Community Town Staff Comments on Miles Farm Process
Members of the Danville Rotary Community Corps share a committment to improving the lives of people in Danville through service projects and supporting community initiatives. Last week we heard comments from some Town Council members about the Miles Farm PUD. This week, we asked the town staff to comment on the process of working through the details of the largest development in Danville’s history. How do you feel the plan commission handled the process? Staff believes the Plan Commission conducted the whole process in a very professional manner as well as meeting all statutory requirements placed on them by Indiana Code, the Danville Zoning, Subdivision Control Ordinances and Danville Comprehensive Plan. As in all projects that go before the Plan Commission, they are tasked with making sure all requirements are being met whether it be a plat, a site plan review or anything that is required to be heard by them. The Plan Commission makes recommendations on rezoning request and amendments to the Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances and have no decision making authority. The Plan Commission goes above and beyond to make sure that all concerns by citizens are expressed by allowing a vast amount of time for public comment. Are you working on alleviating any of the concerns brought up by the remonstrance? The Town of Danville is working on several concerns brought before the Council regarding traffic and possible short-term solutions for the existing traffic in Danville. The Town is also looking at creating a Traffic Impact Fee for any new developments coming to the Town in an effort to reduce the fiscal impacts. Both Water and Wastewater utilities updated their Master Plans two (2) years ago in an effort to plan for future growth. How was your interaction with D.R. Horton and their representatives during the rezoning process? The interaction between the Town Staff and Horton was entirely on a professional level. The developer was very amenable to any and all suggestions by the Town. ______________________________________________

DCHS Senior To Continue Track & Field Career at Iowa Central By Cooper Lee Danville Community High School’s Christian “CJ” Collins received a scholarship and plans on continuing his track and field career at Iowa Central Community College. CJ competed in the high jump while at Danville, and just recently advanced to the state meet with a 6 foot and 6-inch outing. He proved himself time and time again, and eventually earned the attention of colleges in the area. “Multiple other schools offered,” said Collins, “but I received a full ride to Iowa Central.” One can hardly blame the choice, and with that decision comes a change in roles, as he will be competing in the Decathlon for the Tritons. In his time at Iowa Central, he’ll be studying what he’s passionate about, choosing to major in exercise physiology. When asked about why he chose to continue his athletic career, Collins said, “My love for sports was ultimately the reason I decided to continue with it. It has been my dream since I was a kid to be apart of the 7% and go one to play sports in college.” Collins is living his dream and chose the school that would do right by him during his athletic and academic career. Iowa Central is a junior college, meaning Collins will be there for two years, after which he would receive an associate degree and move on to an NCAA program to finish both his school and track career. Collins knew exactly what he wanted out of his time at the JUCO. “I was looking for consistency, academic success, and good coaching fits. Iowa Central has had a very successful past, and even had nine plus kids go Division I with a full ride.” While the future remains bright for the talented track athlete, he understands his position, and knows that the support of his community is just as important as accolades. “Honestly, the biggest takeaway for me was that if you shine, you’re going to shine,” said Collins, “small school or not, you will get noticed. This is a small community, but a very supportive one, from the kids I go to school with, to my elders, they will support you with everything they have.” Level-headed as ever, Collins exemplifies hard work and humility leading to your

dreams. He didn’t forget to mention his coaches, saying, “These coaches want you to succeed just as bad as you do, and they will do everything in their power to drive, help, and get you noticed.” It’s all about seizing the opportunities when they’re provided and after putting all of his high school experiences into perspective, Collins is ready to move on to bigger things while keeping all of those that helped in mind. This type of reflection is something future athletes can emulate throughout their own journey, taking Collins’ advice: ▪ Success demands sacrifice, and there is no alternative. The rent is due every day, you can’t take shortcuts. ▪ Find people that have the same goals and dreams as you and work together, challenge one another to make each other better. ▪ Also, never forget to thank God for everything he has done for you. Your talent is God’s gift to you, but what you do with it is your gift back to Him. For Collins, the only answer is hard work, and that will serve him well going forward, no matter where life takes him. The support from the community of Danville cannot be understated, and as more athletes look to make their dreams come true, Danville remains behind them completely. CJ, along with his brother Caden, will be competing in the IHSAA Boys State Track and Field Meet on Friday, June 4.

The next Genealogy Nuts meeting is Monday, June 14 at 1 p.m. Cindy Rutledge from the Indiana Room will discuss Heirlooms from the Kitchen. “The heart of the home is the kitchen” is a familiar quotation. Many warm memories are associated with this room. The kitchen also contains many precious heirlooms that some may overlook. This presentation will look at kitchen heirlooms and how they may help with your genealogy research. Currently, the Genealogy Nuts are holding hybrid meetings – both in person and virtual.
