HAROLD “JOE” TRENT, of Danville, born July 22, 1936, peacefully passed away on April 12, 2012. His strong character and hard-working nature will be missed by his family and friends. Joe was the only child of Herman and Blanche Trent. He grew up on a small farm, and he loved to tell stories of working the fields as a water boy. His love for farm life continued on well past adulthood. In 1953, he was captain of the Danville Football team, and his pride and joy was his brand new car that he earned by breeding rabbits and raising calves. After high school, he earned an Associates degree in Engineering from Purdue University, where he became an avid Boilers Fan. He was a member of the Naval Reserves and retired from Allison Gas Turbines after 24 years. Driving the streets in high school, he caught the eye of his forever love, Mildred “Midge” English of Brownsburg. During 63 years of marriage, they went on European adventures in Budapest and Prague, put on talent shows as retirees in Spanish Lakes, Florida, were big winners at the casino, and watched countless John Wayne movies. Joe endlessly beat his family at the annual Christmas Cribbage tournament, and was skilled at other various card games. He enjoyed fishing and later shuffleboard . He was often found working in his garage with a pipe, working on clocks and hurricane lamps, and enjoyed collecting coins. He was active in the Jaycees, a service organization, where he served as President and National Jaycee Senator. He appreciated dinners with family and sharing time with friends at the American Legion. He is survived by his four children, Amy Bain (Ken), Arlene Kline, Lana Trent, and John Trent (Tracie); grandchildren, Matthew Howe (Ashley), Daniel Bain, Molly Bain, and Samuel “Sam” Trent, and three precious great-granddaughters, Kyra, Elyse, and Madelyn Howe. His values and virtues will be forever present in his family. Thank you Dad. We love you. Visitation will be 9:30- 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 17, at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with funeral services at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danville American Legion, Post #118, at 846 IN-39, Danville, IN 46122.
