HAROLD “JOE” TRENT
of Danville, born July 22, 1936, peacefully passed away on April 12, 2012. His strong character and hard-working nature will be missed by his family and friends.

Joe was the only child of Herman and Blanche Trent. He grew up on a small farm, and he loved to tell stories of working the fields as a water boy. His love for farm life continued on well past adulthood.
In 1953, he was captain of the Danville Football team, and his pride and joy was his brand new car that he earned by breeding rabbits and raising calves. After high school, he earned an Associates degree in Engineering from Purdue University, where he became an avid Boilers Fan.
He was a member of the Naval Reserves and retired from Allison Gas Turbines after 24 years.
Driving the streets in high school, he caught the eye of his forever love, Mildred “Midge” English of Brownsburg. During 63 years of marriage, they went on European adventures in Budapest and Prague, put on talent shows as retirees in Spanish Lakes, Florida, were big winners at the casino, and watched countless John Wayne movies. Joe endlessly beat his family at the annual Christmas Cribbage tournament, and was skilled at other various card games. He enjoyed fishing and later shuffleboard . He was often found working in his garage with a pipe, working on clocks and hurricane lamps, and enjoyed collecting coins.
He was active in the Jaycees, a service organization, where he served as President and National Jaycee Senator. He appreciated dinners with family and sharing time with friends at the American Legion.
He is survived by his four children, Amy Bain (Ken), Arlene Kline, Lana Trent, and John Trent (Tracie); grandchildren, Matthew Howe (Ashley), Daniel Bain, Molly Bain, and Samuel “Sam” Trent, and three precious great-granddaughters, Kyra, Elyse, and Madelyn Howe.
His values and virtues will be forever present in his family. Thank you Dad. We love you.

MARVIN L. GIST
age 79, of Camby, passed away on April 4, 2021 in his residence.
He was born on January 19, 1942 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Harry and Josephine Bennett Gist.
He married Mary Stone on February 1960, she survives.
Marvin worked as a carpenter for 40+ years for Larry Good homes in Plainfield and was also a self-employed carpenter as well. Marvin enjoyed his old cars especially his Model T’s. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Stone Gist; sons, Paul Gist, David (Tammy) Gist and Stephen Gist; daughter, Karen Gist Carpenter (Jimmy); 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Gist and Sister: Sharon Gist.
Funeral services were Saturday April 10, in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
DAMON J MARTIN
age 19, of Mooresville, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, in Hendricks County.
A former student, peer and athlete in Monrovia, Mooresville and Tri-West schools, Damon received his diploma from Monrovia High School’s class of 2020. Determined to honor and follow in his grandfather’s service with the US Marines Corps., Damon was recovering from discharge and eager to return to complete training. Quick to fit in and make friends, Damon had a giant heart and a magnetic force that will be greatly missed and forever loved.
A Celebration of Life Service took place Wednesday, April 14, in Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. Burial followed in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. CHARLES “CHUCK” ROY HINSHAW
of Pittsboro, passed April 7, 2021.
Chuck was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. to Lemoine and Wanetta Hinshaw on July 2, 1952. He graduated in 1970 from Northside High School, Fort Wayne and Indiana University in 1976 with a B.S. in accounting. He met his wife, Jacque, during his sophomore year of college. They were married December 13, 1975.
Chuck and Jacque weremarried 45 years and were best friends who loved to travel, garden, be a “kid” at Disney, and spoil grandchildren, Hanley and Lane Kurth.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Wanetta and Lemoine Hinshaw and his half-sister, Peggy Bass.
He is survived by his wife, Jacque Hinshaw and children Matt Hinshaw (Francis Escutin) and Noel Kurth (Jesse Kurth). He is also survived by his sister Debbie Biggs (James Biggs).
Services were Monday, April 12, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home, Pittsboro.
LLOYD L. McDANIEL
97, of Plainfield, passed away on April 11, 2021, surrounded by loving family members.
He was born on August 13, 1923 in Monrovia, Ind. to the late Everett and Mary Mc- Daniel. Lloyd was an United States Marine veteran serving in WWII and the Korean War. He retired in 1985 after 37 1/2 years as a Postmaster. Lloyd also retired in 2001 after 50- plus years from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as an assistant supervisor of infield traffic.
He belonged to the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Lloyd was a member of the Plainfield Lions Club, American Legion #329, Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, Scottish Rite, 500 Oldtimers Club and retired Postmasters Club.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Mc- Daniel.
Graveside services will be private in Maple Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons, Dr. Douglas (Paula) and Thomas McDaniel; daughter, Mary Margaret Baskin; brothers, Tom and Charles McDaniel; sisters, Patty Wray, Jeannie and Beverly McDaniel; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.
LUCILLE CRANE
78, of Plainfield, passed away on April 12, 2021. She was born on February 10, 1943 in Wheeling, W. Va. to the late James Edward and Josephine Orum. Lucille was a loving wife and a dedicated homemaker. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Lucille enjoyed gambling with a beer in her free time.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crane; brothers, Jack, Jim, Kenneth and Bill Orum; sisters, Ethel Orum, Virginia Chambers and Betty Elder.
Survivors include her children, James and Robert Hunt, Heidi (Russell) Greene, William Jr. and Adam Crane, Richard Hunt and Suzanne Crane; 6 grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

ROBERT “BOB” GRAPER
89, of Lake Placid, Florida, formerly of Danville, passed away at his home on April 6, 2021.
Robert was born November 10, 1931 in Princeton, Indiana to Fred Erich and Greeba Miller Graper.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; four daughters, Sara Folmer, Jennifer Clark (Tom), Wendy Graper, and Janis Graper Hassan (Mushtak); five grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Hans, and daughter, Robina.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict, with most of his service being at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C. After his honorable discharge, Robert attended Evansville College (University), where he met and married his wife, Sandra Gaines. Graduating in 1959, they were celebrated and made headlines as the college’s first married couple to graduate Magna cum Laude.
Robert joined Eli Lilly and Co., Indianapolis in 1959. Where he served for 36 years, holding many positions in the U.S. and abroad. He prayed to be obedient to the Lord and a good steward. His last position was that of Director of Investor Relations, through which he made many friends and influenced people, as he responsibly fulfilled his position as Lilly’s link with Wall Street.
He was a member of Lakeview Church, Indianapolis, from 1979 to present, where he served as a deacon and was his class leader for the last quarter of a century.
Robert was a man of integrity-humble, and honored God in all his ways. He dedicated his life to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ; firstly, to Him, then to his wife and family, his work, his friends and associates, and his country.

CALVIN E. CARPENTER
71, of Monrovia, passed away March 21, 2021.
He was born June 29, 1949 to the late Waldo and Mary (Lloyd) Carpenter in Evansville, Ind.. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 1967 graduate of Plainfield High School.
Calvin worked for Eli Lilly & Company for 31 years starting out in the cafeteria and retired in 1998 as an Engineering Technician. He also was employed as a driver for I-V Coaches and Miller Transportation and drove semi-tractor trailers for Knight Trucking.
He an umpire and referee for softball and volleyball for IHSAA. Calvin and Kay were part of a R.V. Ministry for SOWERs (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready). He enjoyed camping and going to Disney with family and friends. He also loved having pool parties, cruising, and renting a trike. He looked forward to wintering in Florida. Above all, family and friends always came first.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Kay (Kathryn) E. (Cord) Carpenter; two sons, Jason L. (Heather), and Jake M. Carpenter; and two grandchildren, Kaylee Carpenter and Zach Carpenter.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, at St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield. Visitation will also be at the church on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until service time. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul at app. etapestry.com, or charity of your choice. RICKIE E. WALLACE
73, Indianapolis, passed away on April 6, 2021. He was a US Air Force veteran. He was a ramp agent for US Airways for 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Dollie Wallace; sister, Sue Moore and nephew, Garrett Watson.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Suzanne Wallace; daughters, Amy Wallace, Christina (Craig) Stinnett; brother ,Tom (Teresa) Wallace; sister-inlaw Patti (Denny) McCardle; grandsons, Gage Stinnett and Gavin Stinnett; several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services were Saturday, April 10, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. Burial was in Brownsburg Cemetery.
LARRY LEON PIERSON
age 75, of Clayton, passed away April 9, 2021 in Greencastle.
Born July 27, 1945 in Indianapolis, he was the son of W. Leon Pierson and Imogene (Kelly) Pierson. He had served four years in the Navy.
Larry retired from the Dow Chemical where he had worked in the lab for several years.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, riding horses and Team Pinning. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and helping people.
Survivors include three children, Lori Alexander (Jeff), Greencastle, Lisa Zeiner (Todd), Fillmore, and Lyle Pierson (Krysten), Ohio; grandchildren, Bethany Kieffer (Josh), Ind., Lydia Zeiner (Fiancee Malik), Ind., Megan Zeiner (fiancee Grant), Ind., Dallas Zeiner, Ind., Landon Pierson, Ohio; great-grandson, Rhonen Kieffer, Ind.; ex-wife Linda Pierson, Ind.; and three nephews. His parents, two sisters, Nona Knauer and infant sister Dianna Jo Pierson, preceded him.
Cremation is scheduled and at a later date burial services will be held in the Coatesville Cemetery. A Celebration Of Life will also be in Coatesville immediately following the services.
DAVID W. HAYDEN SR.
67, Brownsburg, passed away April 11, 2021.
He had been a relief line worker for General Motors.
David was a kid at heart and loved toys. He also loved kids and making them smile. As an avid coffee-drinker, his coffee pot was always full and he was always ready with one of his famous jokes or one-liners to bring a smile to your face. His endearing heart and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Francis A. and Martha Ellen Hayden and a sister Janice Olson.
Survivors include sons David Hayden Jr., Erick Hayden and Wes Hayden (wife Jonna); sister Ruth Hayden Burroughs; brothers Francis A. Hayden Jr. and Marvin Hayden; grandchildren E. J. Hayden, Ayden Scott and Alisha Hayden; great grandchildren Carter and Paizlee; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, April 16, at Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg, with funeral services there at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Lizton K of P Cemetery. In compliance with current conditions, it is recommended that guests wear masks and observe social distancing.
WILLIAM BENNETT “BEN” DAR- NELL
71, of Clayton, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at home with his family by his bedside. In honor of Ben’s wishes, his family will proceed with a cremation of his remains. There will be a private gathering and celebration of life by his family at a later date. A burial at sea of his cremains will take place with military honors in the Pacific Ocean at later date as well.
Ben was born in Amarillo, Texas to the late Arthur Lee and Dixie Lela (Hawthorne) Darnell. He graduated from Perryton (Texas) High School with the class of 1967, and attended junior college prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp (Semper Fi). Ben served his country in the Vietnam War.
He was an accomplished welder by trade, and hand been employed by Herring Fabrication Company in Perryton, Texas, for several years prior to his retirement due to medical reasons.
Ben was raised in the Baptist Church.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Della Susan “Susie” (Hayes) Darnell; children, Christopher and Joshua Darnell, both of Clayton, Julie Ray of Monrovia; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Michael Lee Darnell of Plainfield.
He was preceded by a brother of the same name, Michael Lee Darnell.

KENNETH EDWARD STEELE
85, Brownsburg, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at home, in his wife’s presence, at 2 pm, after 3 ½ years of multiple strokes.
Kenneth was born in Hollidaysburg, Pa. to Chalmer and Mabel (Stayer) Steele on March 24, 1936.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Theodore; brother, Robert; and sister-in-law, Hazel.
After graduating from Hollidaysburg High School in 1954; he served 2 years in the Army. He married Jane Aurandt on August 1, 1958, who has been his faithful caretaker for the past 3 ½ years. They moved to Indiana in 1962, and lived in Sutton’s Mobile Home Court, before moving into their newly built home in 1965.
He is survived by his children, Sherry (Steele) Steele (Nick), of Fountain City, Ind.; Marvin Steele of North Salem, and Betsy Hunsucker of Brownsburg. Grandchildren are Aaron Steele (Dayton, Ohio); Rachel Steele (Fort Wayne, Ind.); and Zac Hunsucker (Mooresville, Ind.) and “verbally” adopted Tiana Duong (Phillip) and great-granddaughter, Kristen. Also surviving is Ken’s niece Becky Ann (Steele) Bechtel (Jerry) and two great nieces.
Ken enjoyed flying, almost obtaining his private pilot’s license prior to marriage, and the 500/NASCAR Races. He also enjoyed working parttime jobs after retiring from Bridgeport (Olin) Brass, at Mr. Button’s, The Super Car Wash, Mop Shop, and FedEx.
Ken faithfully attended church at Mt. Tabor Baptist, next Bethesda Baptist Church, where he was a bus mechanic, then later washed the fleet of those buses for 30 years. And lastly, he faithfully attended Faith Baptist Church of Avon for 18 years.
Private family services will be held and burial at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg.

KAREN K. (Lawalin) RILEY JUGG
age 78, of Avon, passed away on April 6, 2021.
She was born on February 1, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Harold and Betty Pflum Lawalin. Karen was the widow of her husband of 52 years, Donald Riley and also the widow of Buddy Jugg.
She was a lab technician for Heritage Company, worked in the Transportation Department for the State of Indiana, and was a school bus driver for Avon Community Schools.
Karen was a member of St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield. She enjoyed gardening, was the majorette in her class at Washington High School, Bunco club for over 50 years, loved to cook, quilt and sew.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, April 12, at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. Arrangements: Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield.
Survivors include her daughters, Holly A. Bourne (Kyle), Teri L. Riley, Cindy S. Handt (Leon), Tracy K. King (John); sister, Nancy Branesky; sister-in-law, Rosemary Lawalin; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 3 greatgreat grandchildren and her beloved dog, Daisy.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Lawalin.
FAY JORDAN
100, passed away on April 6, 2021, in Danville.
She is survived by her sister Lois Anderson (Duane), grandchildren Shelley Notter (Mark), Darin Harrold, great grandchildren Hope, Sophia, Cadence, and Brylee, and several nieces and nephews.
She was a passionate, prayer warrior who happened to have a very green thumb and made the best homemade noodles.
While she was a librarian most of her life, her greatest treasures were her husband Howard, daughter Linda, her siblings, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A graveside service took place at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Dunkirk, Ind. on Wednesday, April 14. VICKIE SUE (Polson) PLEW
Lebanon, passed away April 4, 2021.
She was born January 21, 1950 at home in Tompkinsville, Ky. to Lucille and Jack Polson at less than 5 pounds. She’s been strong and fierce since that day.
She graduated from Plainfield High School in 1968 and attended Aristotle College for two years until the school closed its doors.
She always found joy in and was proud of her work at Preston Safeway where she managed for 20 years. She then was a Unit Secretary at Wishard Hospital for 15 years.
She taught her family humility, kindness, selflessness and forgiveness. She taught them that jewelry that turned your skin green was still pretty jewelry.
She is survived by her daughters Angela (Dallas) Dopko and Wendy (Jason) Wolf; her grandchildren Morgan (Cody) Wetli, Schyler (Michael) Greene, Gavin (Gillian) Wolf, Regan Dopko, Cameron Wolf, and Caleigh Wolf; and her great-grandchildren Haleigh Greene and Maren Wetli.
She is also survived by her brother David (Jeannie) Polson, her sister-in-law Teri Polson, her best friend of 66 years Vicky Honey Brosmer, her ex-husband Ronald Plew, her best friends Jayne Mathews and Linda Plew, and many cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jack and Lucille Polson, and her niece Stephaine Amos Polson.
In lieu of flowers, the family would love rose bushes, clematis, or other garden perineal plant to create a garden in Nana’s honor.

SYLVIA SAMS GRAY
age 73, Amo, passed away February 13, 2021, in Englewood, Florida.
She was born in Manchester, Kentucky, on February 5, 1948, to Otis and Allie Sams. Sylvia was a graduate of Brownsburg High School and took some medical training. She worked in Danville for various doctors and was an EMT for the Amo Fire Department.
Sylvia was an active member of Amo Baptist Church where she served as Co-Treasurer and as a Trustee.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Kim Brown and husband, Jim of Houston, Missouri and son Ted Gray and wife, Kimi of Sylvania, Ohio; granddaughter, Amber Singleton; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Jerry Sams and Otis Sams, Jr., and several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
She will be greatly missed; however, she is having a wonderful heavenly reunion. She was married to Bill Gray for almost 53 years; he preceded her in death.
Her celebration of life will be held at 1st Baptist Church of Amo, Saturday, May 8, 2021, with calling at 3 p.m. and the memorial service at 4 p.m.

CHASE ANDREW LYNCH
age 20, of Danville, passed away April 10, 2021. He was born on November 11, 2000 in Danville, to Nikki Himsel and Andy Lynch.
Chase was known as Skippy by his family and friends. He earned this nickname because he was always a happygo-lucky kid who kept everyone around him laughing and smiling.
Chase was a 2019 graduate of Danville Community High School. He lettered in football during his tenure at DCHS. Chase proudly wore many numbers during his football career. However, his favorite number was #38 as he was lucky enough to share that number with his Uncle Michael.
Chase had a love for the outdoors. He also loved being able to work at his grandpa’s farm. Chase spent countless hours working on his truck to get everything on it just right.
Survivors include his parents, Andy Lynch (Amy), Nikki Himsel Lynch (Tim); sister, Madison Lynch Dragonette (Max); brother, Noah Lynch; grandparents, Jack and Theresa Lynch, David and Treva Himsel and Lenora Delp; girlfriend, Ali Means; and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, at the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds in the NSSB Arena. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
