ORV Accident Claims Life
The Brownsburg community was introduced to the newest “resident” of Williams Park at the unveiling of the first public art sculpture on park grounds on Saturday, April 10. The sculpture – a whimsical human-size bee playing a violin – will be in the center of the renovated entry circle to the park, located at 940 S. Locust Lane, Brownsburg. The bee was created by Indianapolis artist Patrick Mack, who has displayed sculptures throughout the U.S. and Canada. Made of metal rods that have been primed and painted, the idea behind the bee playing a musical instrument is to encourage visitors to listen to the “music” made by the nature surrounding them. The piece was supported by a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. “We’re so excited to share this fantastic piece of art with the residents of Brownsburg,” said Park Board President Judy Kenninger. “The Park Board believes the addition of public art in our parks is a great way to showcase both the arts and our natural spaces. Our goal is to include public art throughout our park system.” Another addition to the Brownsburg Park System will take place on Wednesday, April 28, when the White Lick Creek Greenway officially opens from Northfield Drive to Arbuckle Acres Park with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first 20 participants to arrive at the ceremony location just south of McAlister’s Deli will receive gift bags featuring sweet deals from businesses in the Northfield Commons shopping area. This is just one phase of what is planned to be a greenway that links three Brownsburg parks. The long-term plan is to connect to the towns of Avon and Plainfield. Quaker Blvd. Agreement
Town of Plainfield
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently entered an agreement with the Town of Plainfield and Hendricks County about the relinquishment of a portion of State Road 267, known locally as Quaker Boulevard. Avon Avenue north of U.S. 40 was also included as part of the agreement. The effective date of the transfer was April 1. The Town of Plainfield will now oversee the snowplowing, pavement repairs, mowing, debris removal and traffic signal timing, and other responsibilities. In return, the Town will receive approximately $20.5 million for local project improvements. Due to statutory requirements, Hendricks County will maintain responsibility for several bridge structures affected by the transfer. “The Town looks forward to fully servicing Quaker Boulevard moving forward,” said Town Manager, Andrew Klinger. “INDOT continues to be a good partner with the Town on state roadways and their intersections with local roads. This agreement will allow the Town to invest in key improvements to intersections at Avon Avenue and County Road 300 South, as well as adding lane capacity at Quaker Boulevard and Hadley Road. I believe our residents and visitors will benefit tremendously from this agreement.” The relinquishment of S.R. 267 has been underway for several years. In 2013, INDOT executed a similar agreement with Hendricks County, Avon, and Brownsburg. In 2016, an agreement was made with the County to accept jurisdiction south of Plainfield to the Hendricks County line. This agreement serves to close the gap of those previous relinquishment efforts to provide full local control of these key roadways in Hendricks County. “Plainfield and Hendricks County have been tremendous partners through the relinquishment process,” said INDOT District Deputy Commissioner, Shane Spears. “This is a great opportunity for them to have the ability to develop the roadway in a manner that is much more advantageous for their community. We look forward to working with them in future endeavors.” INDOT will retain control of the I-70 interchange and its ramp system and is committed to investing in the reconstruction of the interchange, subject to funding availability and prioritization. INDOT also retains control over U.S. 40 (Plainfield’s Main Street) and will continue to coordinate with the Town on the management of its intersections with local roads. INDOT recently invested nearly $7 million into resurfacing and improving of U.S. 40 in Plainfield. ______________________________________________________________________
