“Janet from the Block” was spotted returning from a Florida get-away to a wintry Indiana to wish Kevin Hill a happy birthday on behalf of this Washington Street neigbors. ______ Spring might not be official yet, but you couldn’t tell in Danville over the weekend. We saw bicyclists gathered at The Beehive for refreshments before their ride. Dog walkers, joggers, and just plain strollers were enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures. We await the rolling hum of Lawyer Greg Irby on his electric skateboard. ______ The staff of The Republican ate high on the hog last Tuesday when Phyllis Pearcy of Belleville treated the Fourth Estate with tenderloin lunches from her favorite Belleville restaurant. The hearty meal gave the staff the energy needed to get paper ready for the press that evening. Phyllis is one of our biggest fans and the feeling is more than mutual. ______ Welcome to new subscribers and Danvile residents Devin and Melanie Crump. They received it as a gift from the house’s previous owners.

The Danville Warriors Boys Basketball team took to the court to face the Avon Orioles in their regular season finale. This would be the final tune up before taking on the Crawfordsville Athenians in the first round of the 2021 Sectionals on Wednesday, March 3 at Frankfort High School. The Orioles, who are a Class 4A school, sported just 5-13 record coming into this game but as several Avon fans told me before the game, they faced several tough schools and lost many games but just a handful of points. Their warning to Danville, who was ranked 11th in 3A coming into the game, was not to take them lightly. They were right! The start of the game sure felt like a really good team playing down to their competition. Avon, who hit 18 three-pointers on the night, came out of the gate with guns blazing and ready to show that they belonged on the same court as ranked teams. Avon would take a 28-16 lead into the second quarter. The Warriors would seemingly find their groove in the second quarter as they outscored the Orioles 23-13. Not-often-utilized Senior Peyton Jones led the team with nine points in the quarter to help pull Danville to within two points at halftime. Unfortunately, that is where the stellar play from the home team would end for the night. Avon continued their hot shooting,

from everywhere, and they seemed to get after every loose ball and rebound. At the end of the third quarter, Danville would trail 6753. The Warriors would continue to play tough in the fourth quarter, eventually outscoring the Orioles by two, but it was not enough and Danville dropped their second straight game for only the first time this season. The losing streak could not have come at a worse time as they quickly had to turn their attention to Crawfordsville who just lost to the Warriors a little more than a week prior. The coaches and players will have their work cut out for them during the post-season. If they are able to get past the Athenians they will likely play Greencastle, who accounts for one of only four losses on the season for Danville. It will take a monumental team effort to bring home another Sectional Championship trophy this year. By the time this article goes to print, we will already know their fate in game one. Let us hope we are writing about good news next week. Until then….Good Luck Warriors!! Leading the Warriors in scoring against Avon was Peyton Jones with 17, who had arguably the best game of his high school career. Braxton Fulwider and Tyler Dostin each finished with 14 apiece.
