A TOAST TO THE GOOD LIFE at Yotes Court Vineyard
We made our way to Yotes Court Vineyard one Saturday and what a gem it turned out to be. Tucked into the countryside in West Peckham, this boutique English vineyard is the perfect mix of peaceful and picturesque. Honestly, we didn’t want to leave (and not just because of the delicious wine!).
Once a retired fruit farm and overgrown manor garden, Yotes Court has been transformed into an award-winning vineyard that still feels personal and down-to-earth. It’s not flashy or corporate – just really good wine, an excellent and welcoming team, and some of the best views in Kent. On a clear day, you can see Tunbridge Wells over the vines!

Yotes Court is a little slice of Kentish magic and we hope to spread the word of this truly special experience!
Owned by National Hunt racing enthusiast
Susannah Ricci, and managed by Tony Purdie, a Kiwi with decades of wine know-how, this vineyard has character by the barrel-load!
We opted to join a guided tasting, followed by a relaxed lunch overlooking the vines. Paul, who hosted our tasting, was a real character, engaging, funny and really knew his stuff. You could tell he’s passionate about wine and we definitely learned a few things to take home.
The whole vibe was relaxedno wine snobbery, just delicious wine, great advice and generous pours.
For lunch, we were served a charcuterie and cheese board loaded with locally sourced cheeses, meats, fresh bread, crackers and all the tasty extras—grapes, olives, chutney, pickles and more. It was far more generous than we expected and went perfectly with a glass of their signature sparkling Pinot Gris!

You'll find Yotes Court Vineyard at Stan Lane, West Peckham, Kent, ME18 5JT
Experience unforgettable wine tasting in the calm surroundings of Yotes Court Vineyard

An unforgettable experience
With views over the vines, this peaceful spot was the perfect place to enjoy lunch - we left with really great memories, a lovely buzz and a promise to return soon.
If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift, a unique date, or a day out with friends, Yotes Court is an idyllic spot. Even if you haven't booked a tour, guests are welcome to drop in, grab a glass and relax on the paddock lawn, perch inside the rustic wine barn, or wander around with a chilled glass in hand. They offer flights, bottles and glasses, plus local cheese and charcuterie to nibble on while you sip. They're dog-friendly too, which is always a win.
They also run fun events, including their Harvest Experience, Quiz Nights with unlimited fizz, Picnics in the Vines and Wine & Cheese Pairings. Their mailing list gets early access, so it’s worth signing up! To find out more information and how to book, please visit their website -

The Spa Hotel’s welcoming Spa in Tunbridge Wells has long been a favourite for a relaxing escape. With its grand architecture, beautiful grounds and calm, country charm, it’s the kind of space that makes you exhale the moment you arrive. And now, with the launch of their brand-new Wellness Suite, this local gem has taken their spa offering to a whole new level!
The Spa Hotel

UNWIND YOUR MIND AND FIND YOUR CALM AT THE SPA
The Spa Hotel has always delivered when it comes to wellness. Already home to a bright and modern leisure area, complete with a swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms and a fully kitted-out gym. The pool area is flooded with natural light, and the spa atmosphere is always relaxed and easy-going.
This year has marked the debut of something extra special - a dedicated spa and wellness suite, designed to offer guests a deeper and more luxurious wellness experience. It’s tucked away in the west wing of the hotel and feels
like a little sanctuary of calm from the moment you step inside.
The new suite is impressively kitted out. There’s a hydro pool for gentle bubble-soaked lounging, a hot spa pool to melt away tension, and a cold plunge pool for those brave enough to take the icy plunge (trust us, it’s worth it). You’ll also find classic spa favourites like a sauna, steam room and thermo showers, plus some standout extras including an ice fountain, drench bucket and a serene relaxation suite to completely switch off in!

A TRULY RESTFUL RETREAT
“The Spa Hotel is a local gem where you can truly switch off - a perfect, peaceful and pampering retreat, close to home”

SOAK UP THE SEASON WITH A LUXURIOUS SPA BREAK

It’s not just about looking good –it’s been designed with real wellbeing in mind. From deep relaxation and muscle recovery to a little well-deserved pampering, the wellness suite offers something for every kind of spagoer.
Once you’ve floated out of the spa in a blissedout daze, Zagatos Bar is
just the place to continue the wind-down. It’s stylish, welcoming and perfect for a post-spa cocktail or glass of fizz.
Food-wise, there’s more to look forward to. The hotel’s orangery restaurant serves up lunch, dinner and a particularly tempting afternoon tea, all with views over the beautiful gardens. The space is light and airy, which makes it ideal for anything from casual get-togethers to birthday celebrations. And if
you’re planning to make a proper day of it, the hotel also offers spa day packages and overnight stays, giving you more time to make the most of everything on offer.
The Spa Hotel are also gearing up for a busy festive season. From festive afternoon teas and shared Christmas party nights to luxurious Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve stays, plenty is going on to make the end of the year feel a little more special!

If you're after a local day out that leaves you feeling refreshed and properly looked after, it’s well worth a visit this Autumn!

Pumpkin Spiced Everything...
Trend or tradition?
As Autumn arrives, there’s a noticeable change in the airnot just in temperature, but in scent!
The familiar signs of the colder months are here with crisp leaves underfoot in Knole Park, shorter evenings and increasingly, the unmistakable aroma of pumpkin spice drifting from cafés and shopfronts across town.
Originally popularised in the United States, pumpkin spice has made a strong impression on the UK over the past decade. What started with the now-ubiquitous pumpkin spice latte, this autumnal favourite has grown into a wider trend, now appearing in everything from baked goods, to candles.
Sevenoaks is no exception. Local coffee shops, bakeries and even some small independent retailers are now offering their own seasonal takes on the flavour. But is this a passing fad, or the beginning of a new seasonal tradition?

There’s certainly growing enthusiasm for the trend. “It’s become something I look forward to,” says Laura, a commuter who stops by a café near the station each morning. “It marks the change in seasons. It feels exciting and comforting.” That feeling of comfort and familiarity seems to be at the heart of pumpkin spice’s appeal. With its mix of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, the flavour evokes warmth during a time of year when the weather becomes cooler and the days shorter.
Not everyone, however, is fully convinced. Some in the community
feel the flavour has been overused, with products ranging from the creative to the questionable.
Still, it’s clear that pumpkin spice has become part of the seasonal landscape in towns like Sevenoaks. Whether it’s enjoyed as a morning treat, a festive candle, or simply something to look forward to, the flavour has carved out its own place - at least for now.
Whether it becomes a lasting tradition remains to be seen, however, for many, it adds a little seasonal enjoyment to the everyday - and that’s always a winner!

Let’s be honest: Pumpkin spice is one of those things people either embrace with enthusiasm or not. But here’s the thingdone right, this cosy blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves and allspice can actually be a proper flavour booster. Andyou don’t have to drink it!
If you’ve had your fill of pumpkin spice lattes, here are 10 surprisingly brilliant pumpkin spice recipes to try this Autumn, most of which require no barista skills whatsoever.
1. Pumpkin Spice Scones with a Maple Glaze
Think of them as Autumn’s answer to a traditional cream tea. Add 2 tsp of pumpkin spice to your usual scone mix (or cheat with a pre-made mix), and top with a simple glaze of icing sugar and maple syrup. Serve warm with butter and a smug expression!
2. Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini
Give this classic cocktail an Autumnal makeover by adding a pinch of pumpkin spice to the shaker. Use espresso, vodka, Kahlúa and a dash of sugar syrup. Shake like you mean it. Garnish with coffee beans -or a cinnamon stick if you’re feeling fancy.
3. Roasted Pumpkin & Spice Soup
This is Autumn in a bowl. Roast pumpkin (or butternut squash if you’re improvising), onion, garlic and a generous sprinkle of pumpkin spice. Blitz it with veg stock and a swirl of cream. Crusty bread is essential with this one.
4. Pumpkin Spice Granola
Mix oats, chopped nuts, pumpkin seeds, honey and a tablespoon of pumpkin spice. Bake until golden and clumpy. Great on Greek yoghurt, porridge, or straight from the jar.

5. Pumpkin Spice Hummus
Oh yes! Simply blend chickpeas, tahini, a spoonful of blended pumpkin (or roasted squash), lemon juice, garlic and half a teaspoon of pumpkin spice. Sweet, savoury and surprisingly addictive with flatbreads or crudités.
6. Pumpkin Spice Bread & Butter Pudding
Give your stale loaf a second life. Layer slices with custard, raisins and a pinch of pumpkin spice. Bake until golden and serve with double cream. This one is comfort food guaranteed!
7. Pumpkin Spice Popcorn
Perfect for Halloween movie nights. Melt butter with brown sugar, a pinch of salt and 1 tsp pumpkin spice. Drizzle over hot popcorn and mix well. Add a little chilli powder if you like it fiery.
BEYOND THE LATTE
10 PUMPKIN SPICE RECIPES TO TRY THIS AUTUMN
From cocktails
to cookies
(and even hummus), the season’s most divisive spice blend is having a moment...again!
Here’s a few ways to use it in ways that don’t involve a coffee cup...
8. Pumpkin Spice Overnight Oats Mix rolled oats with almond milk, a spoonful of plain yoghurt, maple syrup and a dash of pumpkin spice. Leave it in the fridge overnight and enjoy the deliciousness in the morning.
9. Pumpkin Spice Sticky Toffee Pudding
Because what’s better than toffee sauce?
Toffee sauce with warming spices. Add 1½ tsp pumpkin spice to your sponge mix before baking. You can also add chopped pecans and extra sauce.
10. Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate Bombs
Great fun to make or give as little gifts. Fill round chocolate moulds with mini marshmallows and a mix of cocoa powder and pumpkin spice. Seal together by melting the edges and let them set. Drop them into a cup of warm milk and stir. Magic in a mug!
A Final Stir...Pumpkin spice might’ve started as a latte trend, but it’s clearly more than a seasonal gimmick. With a well-stocked spice rack and a bit of curiosity, you can sprinkle it into all sorts of Autumn comfort food!
Pumpkin spice latte has grown into a wider trend, with the flavour appearing in everything from baked goods to candles.

OKTOBERFEST IN WESTERHAM
Ah, Oktoberfest — the one time of year when it’s perfectly acceptable (encouraged, even) to don lederhosen, toast strangers with steins the size of small buckets and eat your bodyweight in bratwurst!
Born in Munich back in 1810 to celebrate a royal wedding, Oktoberfest began as a five-day party that included horse racing and beer. Naturally, the beer bit stuck!
Over two centuries later, it’s evolved into the world’s largest beer festival, and its popularity has spilled well beyond Bavaria, soaking into countries far and wide.

In the UK, Oktoberfest has found a welcoming home. Maybe it’s our shared appreciation for a hearty pint, a sausage in a bun and a chance to wear fancy dress that’s not weather dependent. Whatever the reason, these Bavarianinspired celebrations have popped up all over the country, and Westerham Brewery is throwing one that’s set to be amazing!
This year, Westerham Brewery is hosting not one, but two Oktoberfest-style knees-ups on Saturday 27th September and Saturday 4th October. You can expect the full works with traditional Oompah music with a modern twist from Deutsch Blasmusik, authentic German eats including bratwurst, schnitzel and sauerkraut served by Meat

the Chef and of course, plenty of locally brewed beer served by the stein-load.
There’ll also be wines, ciders, spirits and soft drinks on hand. There’s just a £15 entry feefood and drink can be bought as you go, making it as laid-back or as lively as you like. You can even book a table for up to 10 mates for the full Oktoberwest experience.
And yes, dressing up is very much part of the fun. Dust off your dirndl or squeeze into those lederhosen — there’ll be games, prizes and plenty of photo ops to prove you did it. Tickets are on sale now so grab yours and raise a glass to beer, bratwurst and Bavarian pandemonium.

You can even book a table for up to 10 mates for the full Oktoberwest experience.

As the nights grow longer and the air a little crisper, Kent reveals one of its best-kept secrets - its spectacularly stargazing-friendly skies! From September to December 2025, the Garden of England transforms into a cosmic theatre, offering front-row views of meteor showers, planetary shows and even a total lunar eclipse—no telescope required (though it doesn’t hurt).
Venture a little into the countryside and you'll find yourself beneath some of the darkest skies in the southeast. Even Knole Park, right in the heart of town, can surprise you on a clear night. You don’t need to trek to the coast or camp in the wilderness - sometimes the stars are best enjoyed just a few steps beyond your doorstep.
September kicks off with a bang as a total lunar eclipse rises on the 7th, casting a reddish glow over the countryside. Later in the month, Saturn reaches opposition, meaning it’s as bright and showy as it gets. With binoculars, you might even spot the rings.
October brings the Orionid meteor shower, peaking around the 21st. These shooting stars originate from Halley’s Comet and zip across the sky like they're in a rush. With minimal moonlight that week, your odds of catching a few are excellent, especially if you’ve got a warm flask and a reclining chair!
November is all about the Leonids. While they’re not as prolific as some showers, their bright, fast trails are worth braving the cold for. This year, they coincide with a new moon - nature’s way of dimming the lights for your private show.
It’s also National Astronomy Week from the 14th to 22nd, with local astronomy societies hosting events that promise both education and excuses to geek out.
Then comes December, and with it, the grand finale. The Geminids (peaking on the 14th) are one of the most reliable meteor showers, with up to 120 meteors per hour. It’s like the universe’s own fireworks display - minus the noise. Later in the month, the Ursids make a quieter appearance around the 22nd, perfectly timed with a new moon.
All you have to do is look up — the best show in town is free and it’s on every night!
TOP TIPS
1. Get Away From Streetlights
Find the darkest spot possible - local rural gems are ideal and around Sevenoaks, we are blessed with many.
2. Check the Moon Phase
A full moon is lovely... unless you’re trying to see stars. Aim for new moons or crescent phases for darker skies.
3. Bundle Up Like It’s the Ice Age
Watching the stars means staying put. Wear more layers than you think you’ll need—you can always peel them off.
4. Bring Snacks
Meteor showers are long affairs. A flask of tea, biscuits, or some cheeky midnight cheese can make it magical.
5. Use a Red Torch
Red light helps preserve your night vision.
6. Download a Star App
Sky Guide, Star Walk, Stellarium - any of these will help you point at the sky and discover with confidence.
7. Recline and Relax
Bring a camping chair or blanket—your neck will thank you. Stargazing isn’t a sport, it’s a lounge activity.
8. Check the Weather Obvious, but key. Clouds are the ultimate stargazing party crashers.
9. Know What to Look For
Plan ahead: lunar eclipses, meteor showers, Saturn’s opposition - there’s something cosmic almost every month.
COOKING FRESH
THE MAGIC OF LOCALLY GROWN SEASONAL GOODNESS

This Autumn isn’t just about golden leaves and misty morningsit’s harvest season at its finest!
Take apples, for starters. From crisp Cox to juicy Russets, at this time of year, the orchards are alive with flavour. Pears come in too-soft, sweet and perfect poached, or packed into a crumble. And of course, it wouldn’t be Autumn without the humble pumpkin and its smaller, sweeter cousin, the butternut squash. Whether roasted, blitzed into soup or turned into pie, they’re hearty staples for chilly evenings.
On the savoury side, keep an eye out for wild mushrooms and game like venison, which begin to appear in butchers and farm shops from September onwards. One of the joys of Autumn is experiencing the season first-hand.
Many farms in the area offer pick-your-own apples and pumpkins—a brilliant way to get outside and make a day of it (plus the kids love it).

And if foraging isn’t your thing, there’s no shortage of farm shops and farmers’ markets brimming with local produce. Autumn harvest is well worth celebrating and local produce is a win-win for taste, the planet, and the community. Because it’s harvested close to home, it’s fresher, more flavourful, and packed with seasonal goodness. Buying local supports Kent’s farmers and small businesses, cuts down on food miles and helps reduce packaging and emissions.
It also gives you more transparency—you often know exactly where (and who) your food comes from. Plus, many local growers offer more variety and encourage biodiversity, making it better for the land in the long run. In short, local food just makes good sense - and tastes amazing too!

The Kent countryside really comes into its own this time of year, bursting with produce that’s ripe, robust and ready for your plate!

Your Seasonal Home Refresh
Cosy up your home in time for the festive season!
As the leaves turn golden and the scent of woodsmoke lingers in the air, Autumn is well and truly settling over Sevenoaks and it’s also the perfect moment to give your home a gentle seasonal spruce-up.
A full renovation isn’t needed - just a few clever tweaks can bring warmth, calm and a cosy vibe to carry you through to Christmas. A simple, feel-good plan of mini refreshes for your home is good for the soul!
Start with a declutter. With festive guests not far off, clear out what you don’t need. Tackle that overstuffed hallway cupboard or the spare room you’ve been meaning to sort. Donate old coats to one of the many local charity shops in Sevenoaks High Street or pop into a recycling bank at the Suffolk way car park.

Next, get crafty with DIY décor. Think natural touches— branches from a country walk, dried hydrangeas from the garden, or pumpkins from a local farm shop such as Castle Farm. Add chunky throws to the sofa, swap out cushion covers for deeper hues, and bring out warm lighting—essential as those Kentish evenings draw in!
Add practical refreshes where it matters. Pop a seasonal-scented candle in the hallway, hang a homemade autumn wreath on the front door, or introduce a soft new rug in the lounge. Warmtoned lamps or fairy lights work wonders as the daylight fades.
In the kitchen, reorganise a baking corner with easy access to spices, teas and festive ingredients - perfect for cosy weekends in with the Aga or fire on.
Don’t forget the garden. Sweep the patio, gather fallen leaves and string up outdoor lights for an instant autumn atmosphere. A couple of pot plants or a rustic bench dressed with blankets can make even the smallest space feel inviting!
Light a candle and let the spirit of autumn lead to a refreshing, happy and snug seasonal change!!

Challenging the Validity of a Will: Coercion, Undue Influence, and Fraud
Solicitor, Louise Mackay, explains what you can do, if you suspect a Will is invalid.
Discovering irregularities in a loved one’s Will can be deeply unsettling. If you suspect forgery or coercion, it’s natural to feel uncertain about what to do next.
Recent cases reveal how vulnerable individuals, especially those without close family, are at risk of being manipulated into signing Wills. It has even resulted in the government taking the bona vacantia list of unclaimed estates offline, to prevent fraudsters obtaining these details.
What can you do if you believe the Will is invalid or forged?
A Will can be challenged for various reasons including:
· The person did not have the testamentary capacity to make the Will
· The party has been coerced and pressurised into

making a Will (also known as undue influence)
· The Will is fraudulent or forged
· The Will was not executed correctly
It is important to get legal advice on this as soon as possible and ideally before a grant of probate is obtained.
What if the Will is valid but leaves me with nothing?
If the Will is valid but you feel you have not been properly provided for, you may also be able to make a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 to be provided a reasonable financial provision. Any claim in this regard will need to be brought within 6 months of the date of grant of probate. www.berryandlamberts.co.uk

You don’t need a compass or extra gear to explore this season. Just follow the footpaths, breathe in that fresh Kent air and keep your eyes peeled for sheep, squirrels, and friendly pub signs!
Sevenoaks is next level when it comes to countryside charm. With ancient woodlands, rambling valleys, stately homes and the sort of wildlife from a fairytale. And the best bit? It’s all best explored on foot—with or without a muddy dog in tow!
Here is a little friendly guide to a few of the best walks in and around Sevenoaks, each offering fresh air, views for days and just enough uphill to earn that postwalk pub lunch.
1 . One Tree Hill Circular Walk D istance: Approx. 4.5 miles | Start: Car park near One Tree Hill, TN15 0QY
TAKE A HIKE!
Beautiful walks near Sevenoaks to try this season
Just a few of our favourite scenic spots for crisp, colourful strolls
D espite the name, you’ll spot far more than one tree. This classic circular route dips into the Greensand Ridge and skirts the edges of Knole Park with sweeping views over the Weald of Kent. There’s a satisfying mix of woodland, meadows and the occasional “I feel like I’m in a Jane Austen adaptation” moment.
I t’s a manageable loop with a couple of decent inclines - just enough to raise the heart rate but not so much you regret bringing your snacks instead of stamina.
Top tip: Go early on a misty morning for a magical atmosphere.

2. Knole Park Walk
Distance: Varies – from 2 to 6+ miles | Start: Any Knole Park entrance, TN13 1HX
Knole Park is Sevenoaks’ crown jewel—a sprawling, 1,000-acre deer park surrounding a National Trust treasure that looks like it hasn’t changed in centuries.
There are a variety of trails through ancient woodland and wide open parkland and if you're lucky, you’ll catch a herd of deer doing their best impression of the cast of Bambi. The terrain is relatively easy, perfect for a Sunday stroll or wearing in your slightly-too-clean walking boots.
Bonus: There’s usually cake involved if you loop past the NT café.
3. Otford and Eynsford Circular Walk
Distance: 10 miles (or shorter if you cheat a bit) | Start: Otford station, TN14 5QY
Feeling adventurous? This one’s a proper day-out trail. The circular route from Otford takes you through undulating farmland, pretty villages and wooded valleys all the way to Eynsford—a picture-perfect spot complete with river, tea rooms and photo ops. It’s ideal for those who enjoy a longer leg stretch, or anyone keen on combining history (Lullingstone Roman Villa is nearby), riverside path and even the chance to spot a few llamas!
Fuel stop: The Plough Inn or Riverside Tearoom in Eynsford—earned after about mile seven.

4. Ightham Mote Woodland Walk
Distance: Around 4 miles | Start: Ightham Mote National Trust car park, TN15 0NT
Imagine the setting of a medieval mystery novel and you’ve got Ightham Mote. The 14th-century moated manor house is surrounded by lush woodlands and scenic trails that feel wonderfully removed from real life. The walk itself is gentle, varied and rich with crunchy leaves in Autumn.
There’s a helpful trail map at the start if you’re directionally challenged (no judgment here), and once you’re back, the NT café is on hand with cream teas.
Local lore: Apparently, the manor house is haunted—but don’t worry, the ghosts are very polite.
Distance: Approx. 5.5 miles | Start: Shoreham village, TN14 7TB
This one’s a local gem—riverside paths, rolling hills and the type of chocolate-box village you expect to see in a period drama. The Darenth Valley walk loops through fields, vineyards and past the Shoreham Aircraft Museum. It’s a well-marked trail with gentle gradients and plenty of scenic picnic spots.
Don’t miss: The Mount Vineyard in Shoreham - and yes, the menu is incredibly delicious!
Walks in and around Sevenoaks tick all the boxes: rolling hills, moated manors, riverside rambles and the occasional deer sighting. It’s proper countryside—plus the odd pub or tea room perfectly placed for a mid-walk reward.

Your Guide to an Autumn Health & Wellbeing Reset
With Grace Brennan, a Local Nutritional Therapist & Health Coach
After a summer of BBQs, late nights and plenty of Pimms, getting back into routine can feel tough.
This season, why not reset with simple habits that help you feel your best?
As a Sevenoaks-based nutritional therapist and health coach, I support clients with realistic changes to food, movement and lifestyle that improve energy, curb cravings and support a healthier body – all year round.
Here are a few of the seasonal resets I guide my clients through each autumn that are designed to help you feel better, not just start over.

4. Sleep
Sleep is often the first thing to suffer when life gets busy. But getting it right can make all the difference to our overall health. Better sleep means more energy, fewer cravings and better mood. One of the simplest things I help clients build is a wind-down routine. Try finishing your last meal a few hours before bed, putting your phone away early and adding something calming, like reading or
journaling, to help you switch off. Ready to feel better this autumn? Book a free call with Grace to learn how 1:1 nutritional therapy and health coaching could help.
Based in Sevenoaks, Grace offers online and in-person consultations.

1. Hydration
It’s the simplest (yet most forgotten!) health habit. Even mild dehydration can affect energy, digestion and cravings. Most of my clients feel better within days of increasing their water intake. Aim for 1.5–2 litres of filtered water daily to support mood, metabolism and appetite. Keep a bottle handy and add lemon, cucumber or mint if plain water feels dull.
2. Nutrition
Autumn is packed with colourful, nutrient-dense produce – perfect for building nourishing meals. A variety of plants means more fibre, antioxidants and vitamins to support everything from energy to digestion. A tip I give almost all my clients is to fill half their plate with vegetables, aiming for one new plant each week. It’s a
simple habit that supports appetite regulation, gut diversity and better overall health.
In a rush? Frozen or canned veg are just as nutritious, often more affordable and convenient for busy days.
3. Movement
You don’t need a gym to benefit from daily movement. Walking is one of the most underrated tools for health.
Even 4–8k steps a day can support healthy weight loss, blood sugar balance, heart health and mental wellbeing. The science is clear: small, consistent movement adds up. Walking features in nearly all my clients’ plans – it’s free, simple and fits into any routine. And with Knole Park on our doorstep, we’ve got the perfect spot for an autumn stroll.

GLOW-UP THIS SEASON
Hydration and glow as the weather cools
When the crisp air rolls in and the humidity drops, your skin can lose its Summer glow. Autumn is the perfect time to revamp your skincare routine and focus on deep hydration. Start by switching to a gentle, cream-based cleanser that won’t strip your skin of essential oils. Incorporate a hyaluronic acid serum to lock in moisture and follow with a rich moisturiser that protects against dryness and irritation.
Don’t skip SPF—UV rays are still present, even on cloudy days. Add a nourishing lip balm and a hydrating eye cream to combat flakiness and fine lines. Dry brushing the skin is especially beneficial in autumn because it helps slough off dry, flaky skin that often results from cooler, drier air. As circulation naturally slows during colder months, dry brushing boosts blood flow and encourages lymphatic drainage, supporting the body’s natural detox process. It also preps the skin to better absorb moisturising products, which is essential as skin tends to become more dehydrated in Autumn.
Hydration isn’t just skin-deep. Drink plenty of water, add herbal teas, and consider using a humidifier indoors to restore moisture to the air and with the right care, your skin will stay supple, radiant, and ready for the cosy months ahead.
Capital at Risk.

PADEL FEVER!
The fast-paced, sociable sport that’s been taking the world by storm is officially coming to Hollybush Tennis Club

Hollybush Tennis Club
“Exciting things are coming to Sevenoaks and if you haven't yet heard of padel, now’s the time to get familiar!”

With construction underway and plans moving forward, this brand-new Padel hub is set to become a new hotspot for the game.
Hollybush Tennis Club, already a cornerstone of the local community, are expanding their club in a big way. Known for a friendly atmosphere and their strong sense of community, Hollybush is a vibrant Tennis Centre where players of all ages and abilities are welcome.
From beginners looking for fun social play to seasoned players seeking competitive action, Hollybush offers it all — and now, with Padel joining the line-up, there’s even more reason to swing by.
With six hard courts, including two floodlit for evening matches, the club already boasts fantastic facilities. But the arrival of Padel — a hybrid of tennis and squash, played in doubles on an enclosed court — will make Hollybush Park a true destination for active families, social players and new players.
This community-based coaching organisation has long been dedicated to the growth and development of tennis in the area. The introduction of Padel is a natural next step, opening the door to even more opportunities for locals to stay active, make friends and try something new — all within the welcoming environment Hollybush is known for.

Behind the project is John Heuerman, owner of The Tennis Academy at Hollybush. “We’re incredibly excited for what’s to come,” John says. He believes Padel is a fun, accessible sport that complements everything they already offer at Hollybush.
The addition of Padel is exciting for the future of sport in Sevenoaks and if you are keen to try the newest sporting trend and try something new, it’s easy to fall in love with the game!

FUN FACTS ABOUT PADEL
1. Padel is the world’s fastest-growing sport – particularly popular in Spain and now rapidly expanding across the UK.
2. The court is smaller than a tennis court and surrounded by walls, which are part of the game, like in squash!
3. It’s always played in doubles, making it super social and fun.
4. Padel is easy to pick up — great for kids, adults and complete beginners.
5. The scoring system is just like tennis, but the pace is faster and more dynamic.
6. Top tennis pros like Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are huge fans of the game.
7. Padel rackets have no strings — they’re solid with holes, making them easier to control.
8. It’s a low-impact sport, which makes it gentler on joints than many others.
9. Over 25 million people play Padel worldwide.
10. Hollybush will be the first dedicated Padel hub in Sevenoaks!

Exploring the Nicknames of Place

“A linguistic journey in Sevenoaks and across the UK”
Linguist Topher Agar is delving into the fascinating world of place-name modification in his latest research project, which includes Sevenoaks! Focused on how people informally alter the names of towns, cities and neighbourhoods, his study takes a playful yet analytical approach to this uniquely human linguistic habit.
From affectionate diminutives to more creative modifications such as anagrams, spoonerisms and initialisms, the study catalogues a wide variety of linguistic quirks.
Topher is also mapping where these modifications appear most commonly. For instance, nicknames ending in -o (like Rammo for Ramsgate) appear frequently in the East Midlands, while -ers suffixes (e.g. Canters for Canterbury) trace their spread from Oxbridge into surrounding regions and universities.
But nicknames aren't universally adopted as they often reflect the insider language of specific age groups, genders, or social circles and can be as fleeting as a fashion trend. Some, like Kem Sing? (a pun on Kemsing), while others are rooted in local history. Oneoaks, for instance, recalls the tree loss in Sevenoaks after the 1987 storm.

"A playful yet analytical approach to a uniquely human linguistic habit"
Submissions from Agar’s crowdsourced research, primarily gathered through social media, reveal a creative and sometimes controversial landscape. Suggested nicknames for Bat and Ball include Bat & Bronx, Bat & Brawl, and Bat & B****cks - although none are easily traceable in public usage yet. Other colourful but unconfirmed examples include Sevenblokes and Royal St Nizels.
Ultimately, Agar’s findings will be presented on detailed maps covering the UK’s towns and cities.
