A Taste of Extraordinary

Robin is a chef who loves what he does, working with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and serving every dish with genuine pride. Each menu at The Counter, is carefully created, built around the seasons and changes monthly, meaning it’s fresh, vibrant and constantly changing!

You can choose from five, eight, or ten-course tasting menus, each one designed to take you on a journey through flavour and texture. The most exclusive seats are, fittingly, at the kitchen counter, where you’ll enjoy the full experience, served personally by Robin himself - a front-row seat to culinary artistry!

For those after a lighter experience, they also serve a three course lunch menu on Thursdays and Fridays, from midday until 2:30pm. And for a truly intimate evening, The Counter offers private dining for groups of six in Rencraft Stunning kitchen showroom complete with a ten-course seasonal menu and expertly paired wines.

We were lucky enough to enjoy the 8 course tasting menu and it’s safe to say it was no ordinary dining experience! The atmosphere was perfect with laid-back music and views of the kitchen which all came together to make you feel part of something special. We were fortunate to be seated at the counter itself, where you can watch Robin and his team at work and from the first dish, it felt clear that this restaurant offers something truly unique and special. The whole thing felt like an experience rather than just a meal!

The ingredients were seriously impressive - all carefully sourced, many local and some even straight from The Counter’s own garden. Robin, the chef, had even foraged some of the mushrooms himself from around Tunbridge Wells, which were incredible in the Jerusalem artichoke dish. The wild trout with pike roe was one of the extremely memorable dishes - fresh, delicate and packed with flavour. Another true standout was

“The Counter's menu is built around the seasons - fresh, vibrant and constantly changing each month!”

the pork collar with incredible Mangalitza black pudding on top.

To finish, along came the damson sorbet, tiramisu and a few incredible sweet treats, which were pure joy on a plate and the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.

Our attentive server Rosie was incredibly knowledgeable with the wine paring, explaining the flavour profiles, which were carefully

selected to accentuate the flavours of each dish.

We were so blown away by the whole experience and couldn’t recommend it enough. The service was exceptional and everyone was so friendly and full of knowledge. From start to finish, it felt intimate and special and we couldn’t have been more impressed or content. This is the perfect spot for a decadent night out!

We left already planning when we would be back and honestly, couldn’t speak more highly of it!

There’s something truly magical about Squerryes Winery as winter settles over the Kent countryside. With stunning vineyards, elegant dining spaces and an unmistakable sense of occasion, this historic estate offers the perfect escape for locals seeking a little winter indulgence.

Squerryes perfectly captures the spirit of the season — the joy of gathering, sharing great food and raising a glass of fine wine. For over 300 years, eight generations of the Warde family have called this beautiful estate home. Their family motto, “Licet Esse Beatis” which means “It is permitted to be joyful”, couldn’t be more fitting!

This winter, Squerryes welcomes you to experience the season in style, whether you’re gathering with friends, celebrating with family, or simply looking for a cosy countryside lunch. They have recently unveiled their beautifully curated new lunch menu in the winery restaurant, which is a celebration of local ingredients, thoughtful cooking and timeless hospitality. This new menu offers unmissable dishes rooted in Kentish fields and orchards. It has been carefully designed with true passion to complement their award-winning English sparkling wines - perfectly balancing flavour and sophistication! We were lucky enough to sample the new lunch menu at Squerryes and were thoroughly impressed, to say the least!

Our lunch at Squerryes was an absolute treat from start to finish, beginning with with a few tempting small plates designed to wake up the palate, with harissa-marinated Gordal olives with just the right amount of heat and the truffled Trove arancini were little bites of indulgence, rich with smoked paprika and tomato offering a clever twist on familiar flavours.

"The new lunch menu is filled with unmissable dishes rooted in Kentish fields and orchards. It has been designed to complement their award-winning English sparkling wines - perfectly balancing comfort and sophistication!"

To start, we had the gin & dill cured chalk stream trout with roasted beetroot ketchup, roasted beetroot and fresh apple. It was a beautifully vibrant dish - very colourful, light and full of fresh flavours. Contrasting, but just as delicious, we tried the Estate lamb faggot with spiced carrot purée, ruby port jus and crispy artichoke - a truly standout dish and one we’d highly recommend.

For mains, we went for the Estate daube of beef served with roasted celeriac purée, cavolo nero and red wine jus, along with the pan-roasted Cornish cod with salty fingers, girolles and Squerryes beurre blanc, plus a side of garden sage & garlic roasted Kentish new potatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked, with generous portions and beautifully balanced flavours — far beyond what we expected.

Even though we were pretty full, no meal at Squerryes would be complete without something sweet! The affogato, made with house vanilla ice cream and freshly brewed espresso, was the perfect finish — simple, classic and very satisfying!

BRILLIANT BRITISH CLASSICS

When the days grow shorter and the chill in the air makes you question why you ever complained about the summer heat, there’s definitely one thing that is guaranteed to keep spirits high: classic British comfort food!

Right now, it’s all about belly-filling, heartwarming food that makes you want to pull on thick socks, pour a glass of something rich, and nestle in for the night!

When it comes to cold-weather cooking, we brits are in our element. Our culinary traditions were built for battling draughty old houses, endless drizzle and frosty mornings.

Everyone has their own cosy food traditions that go well beyond keeping out the cold. We love to tuck into slow-braised beef casseroles with a generous splash of local ale, or game pies made with pheasant from nearby estates! Of course, a roast is practically a community ritual for many of us and come December, it’s mince pies by the fire, mulled wine at Christmas markets and the smell of cinnamon drifting through every village pub - a great win for wintertime in Sevenoaks!

INDULGE IN WINTER WARMERS

Winter is the perfect excuse to pile your plate high, warm your bones, and embrace the glorious carb-laden dishes that our nation does so well.

Here are six (shortened) classics to give a little inspiration, whether you may fancy whipping up a big family dinner or just treating yourself after a long commute. These recipes are hearty, homely and guaranteed to thaw even the chilliest of moods!

Cosy up this season with some hearty grub that's good for the soul!

This season, it's all about hearty & comforting food that brings people together!

COTTAGE PIE

Start by browning beef mince with chopped onions and diced carrots until rich and fragrant. Stir through a hearty beef gravy, then spoon the mixture into a deep baking dish. Top generously with creamy mashed potato, smoothing it over before forking ridges across the surface. Dot with butter and bake until crisp and golden on top.

It’s the ultimate comfort dish, perfect for cosy winter dinners any day of the week!

BUBBLE & SQUEAK CAKES

A clever way to use leftovers, bubble and squeak combines mashed potato with cabbage and any spare greens you might have. Heat butter in a frying pan, press the mixture flat in portions and let them sizzle until golden and crisp.

Flip carefully to brown the other sides. Perfect on their own, or topped with fried eggs, bacon or sausages for a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner!

LANCASHIRE HOTPOT

Layer tender lamb pieces, sliced onions and carrots in a large casserole dish, seasoning each layer well. Top with thin potato slices, slightly overlapping to create a rustic lid. Pour over hot stock, cover with a lid, and bake slowly until the lamb is melt-in-themouth and the potatoes golden on top.

A true one-pot wonder, this dish warms you from the inside out.

BEEF STEW & DUMPLINGS

Brown chunks of beef and simmer slowly with onions, carrots and a splash of ale for depth of flavour. Let the stew bubble gently until the meat is beautifully tender. Just before serving, drop in suet dumplings, cover and steam until soft and fluffy.

Dished up with chunky fresh bread, this hearty classic is everything you need on a cold winters evening.

TOAD IN THE HOLE

Place plump sausages in a roasting tin and cook until just browned. Meanwhile, whisk together a simple Yorkshire pudding batter of eggs, flour and milk. Pour the batter over the sausages and bake in a hot oven until puffed, golden and crispy around the edges.

Serve with lashings of onion gravy for a nostalgic favourite that always hits the spot!

STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING

This sweet British classic begins with a moist sponge made with chopped dates, brown sugar and a hint of vanilla. Once baked, it’s smothered in a glossy toffee sauce made from butter, cream and sugar.

Served warm with thick custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It’s indulgent, sticky and utterly irresistible – oh yes!

RAISE A TOAST THIS WINTER!

Nothing says “it’s nearly Christmas” quite like that first whiff of mulled wine (or mulled cider, if that’s your tipple) drifting through a market, or steaming gently in your own kitchen. For centuries in the UK, spiced drinks have been part of winter tradition - something to fend off the chill and bring people together.

Mulled wine dates back to the Romans, who warmed and spiced their wine as they travelled across Europe. The British later made it their own, adding festive flavours and serving it up at Christmas feasts. Cider, meanwhile, has strong roots here in the South-East. With Kent and Sussex both boasting fine apple orchards, it’s hardly surprising that mulled cider has become just as popular, especially for those who prefer

something a little lighter and fruitier than wine.

These days, you’ll find both drinks popping up everywhere in December - at Christmas markets, pubs and even in the odd thermos on a frosty dog walk. They’re comforting, sociable, and almost impossible not to enjoy (unless, of course, you burn your tongue on that first eager sip - we’ve all been there!)

The best bit? They’re easy to make at home. Not only will your kitchen smell like Christmas in under ten minutes, but you can tweak the recipe to suit your taste - sweeter, spicier, boozier… no judgement here!

Why not skip the shop-bought carton and make your own? After all, winter’s too long to drink anything boring!

The Perfect Recipe...

Simple Mulled Wine (or Cider) Recipe

•1 bottle of red wine (or 1 litre good-quality cider)

• 2 oranges (one sliced, one juiced)

•3 tbsp caster sugar or honey

• 2 cinnamon sticks

• 4 cloves

• 2 star anise

• Optional: a splash of brandy or dark rum for extra warmth

Pop everything into a large pan, heat gently until steaming (but never boiling), then let it infuse for 10–15 minutes. Strain if you fancy, or leave the spices in for rustic charm. Serve in heatproof glasses, add an orange slice if you’re feeling fancy and enjoy!

Mulled wine and cider are classic, but it’s the little tweaks that make them memorable. Here are some tips to make your recipe unique (without scaring off traditionalists)

1. Switch the base fruit – Add a splash of apple juice or pomegranate juice alongside the wine/cider for extra depth and natural sweetness.

2. Upgrade the citrus – Instead of just oranges, try blood oranges, clementines, or even slices of pink grapefruit for a tangy twist.

3. Add fresh herbs – A sprig of rosemary, bay leaf, or even a little thyme can give a lovely aromatic lift.

4. Sweeten creatively – Swap caster sugar for honey, maple syrup, or demerara sugar for richer flavour.

5. Warm spice swaps – Add cardamom pods, black peppercorns, or a tiny piece of fresh ginger for a bit of bite.

6. Use a flavoured spirit – Fortify with spiced rum, sloe gin, or even a splash of port instead of brandy.

7. Infuse with tea – Brew a strong chai or spiced rooibos tea and add it to the mix for a fragrant depth.

8. Add dried fruit – Pop in a few dried cranberries, raisins, or figs; they plump up beautifully and release natural sweetness.

9. Make it sparkling – Just before serving, top mulled cider with a splash of dry sparkling cider or even prosecco for a festive fizz.

10. Garnish smartly – Serve with a cinnamon stick stirrer, a curl of orange peel, or even a star-shaped slice of apple for a touch of theatre.

LOVE LOCAL LOVE LARKINS

Every pint tells a story – of hops grown on Kentish soil, of heritage and of a love for real ale!

If you’ve wandered through the rolling countryside of Penshurst, you may have noticed the quiet hum of tradition still very much alive. At it's heart sits Larkins Brewery, a family-run brewery that has become a local favourite for those who love proper beer!

With its roots firmly in Kent’s hop-growing heritage, Larkins continues to brew with care, character and respect for time-honoured methods!

Head Brewer Harry, nephew to the much-loved late Bob Dockerty, now carries the torch for the brewery, producing around two brews each week. These are carefully crafted to supply a loyal network of 40–50 pubs and restaurants, along with local events and private celebrations. For many, a pint of Larkins is synonymous with a proper Kentish pint!

The brewery grows three traditional Kentish hop varieties on their own farm - goldings, bramling cross and whitbread goldings. Only whole hop cones are used, never pellets or added sugars, ensuring every brew is as natural and flavourful as it can be. Since 1993, they’ve

also relied on their own unique strain of live ale yeast, a closely guarded element of the process. It’s this yeast that guarantees no other brewery can quite replicate the depth of flavour found in a pint of Larkins.

In a fast-paced world of mass production, Larkins stands out as a reminder of what beer should be – natural, characterful and rooted in the land it comes from. Each pint is a piece of Kentish heritage, carried from field to glass.

If you may be planning a get-together this winter, Larkins offers beer in sizes to suit every event – from mini kegs perfect for the fridge to full firkins for bigger parties. Their kegs also make brilliant gifts for the ale enthusiast in your life. Keep an eye out for Larkins on tap, whilst visiting a local pub this season too, as there’s little that can rival the comfort of a locally brewed pint enjoyed by the fire - cheers to that!

“Good beer isn’t just what’s in your glass – it’s the history, people and community behind it.”

Feel your best this Season!

AVOIDING THOSE WINTER BLUES

As the days grow shorter and the drizzle becomes a nearpermanent fixture, it’s no surprise that many of us in the UK start to feel a little… grey. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is real, with studies suggesting that around 10% of Brits experience a lower mood during the darker months. But fear not - there are plenty of ways to lift your spirits without moving to the Caribbean!

BRIGHTEN UP YOUR WINTER

Taking steps to feeling more energised this season!

First

things first: sunlight is your friend. Even on a soggy Sevenoaks morning, getting outside for a walk (with your raincoat and wellies at the ready) can boost serotonin levels and help regulate your sleep cycle. Research from the University of Westminster has shown that just 20–30 minutes of daylight exposure can improve mood and energy. If clouds conspire against you, light therapy boxes, which are available from various high-street electrical shops, mimic daylight and can be surprisingly effective.

Exercise is, of course, a powerful mood-lifter. It doesn’t have to involve gruelling gym sessions, or a halfmarathon through Knole Park (unless that’s your thing). Even gentle activities like yoga, swimming, or a brisk cycle along the Darent Valley can stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural “feelgood” chemicals.

A study in the journal of affective disorders found that regular moderate exercise can significantly reduce symptoms of mild depression. So, put on your trainers and embrace the muddy paths - your mind will thank you.

Nutrition matters during the cooler months. Studies suggest that a diet high in processed foods and sugar can exacerbate low mood, while nutrientrich meals help stabilise energy and brain chemistry. Winter seasonal foods are amazing, so balance your meals with plenty of vegetables, whole grains and omega-3-rich foods. Think hearty root-vegetable stews rather than endless chocolate biscuits (though a little treat now and then won’t hurt!)

And don’t underestimate the power of social connections. We humans are social creatures, even if the idea of leaving the house seems grim when it’s raining sideways. Regular catch-ups with friends, community groups, or even a friendly chat at a local Sevenoaks café can help ward off the winter blues.

Plus, give yourself permission to rest. Winter can be seen as a time to slow down and recharge, not to feel guilty for cosying up with a book and a mug of tea. With a combination of daylight, movement, nutrition, connection and rest, the darker months don’t have to mean darker moods. Winter wellness is about small steps that add up to a brighter season!

MAGIC MAGNESIUM

Why Men should get on board with the ZMA hype this Winter!

Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body. It helps regulate muscle function, supports the nervous system, balances blood sugar and even keeps your heart ticking nicely. But many men simply don’t get enough through diet alone - especially with the rise of processed foods and busy lifestyles.

Studies suggest ZMA may help improve sleep quality - a big win for men who spend their nights tossing and turning, or doom-scrolling on their phones. Better sleep equals better recovery, both mentally and physically. There’s also evidence that magnesium deficiency can lead to lower testosterone levels. In one study published in the journal of pharmaceutical and biomedical analysis, magnesium supplementation was shown to positively influence testosterone in active men. Add zinc to the mix - essential for hormone production and immune defence and suddenly ZMA looks less like a fad and more like a solid winter ally.

ENTER ZMA

Short for zinc monomethionine aspartate, magnesium aspartate and vitamin B6, this supplement has become popular in the fitness world. Think of it as a handy trio: magnesium for muscle and relaxation, zinc for immunity and testosterone support and vitamin B6 to keep the whole system running smoothly!

Why men especially need it in winter?

Let’s be honest, winter doesn’t always bring out the healthiest habits. Comfort food often takes centre stage, workouts are swapped for the sofa and shorter days can leave us running on empty. Magnesium helps with energy production, so it may reduce that sluggish feeling. It also supports our mood, which is handy when the long nights start to drag. And for the gym-goers braving the cold, ZMA can support muscle recovery and prevent cramping. Nobody wants to pull a calf muscle halfway through a walk!

But… a word of balance

Before anyone rushes out and clears the local health shop shelves, remember: ZMA isn’t a magic pill. A balanced diet rich in whole foods—leafy greens, nuts, seeds, fish and legumes—remains the foun-

dation. Supplements should top things up, not replace good habits. And while ZMA is generally considered safe, it’s always sensible to check with a GP before starting anything new.

A final thought…

Looking after yourself doesn’t need to be complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as giving your body the minerals it’s quietly crying out for. Think of ZMA as a winter toolkit: better sleep, steadier energy, stronger immunity and maybe even a boost in the gym.

Next time you may be tempted to write off supplements as “just for fitness fanatics,” consider this: magnesium isn't expensive. Plus, it could make the difference between feeling like a hibernating bear and actually enjoying the season.

Hormones and anxiety are deeply connected. This post looks at women’s mental health through the life stages of motherhood, perimenopause and menopause, and how therapy, lifestyle and HRT can help.

Have you ever noticed how your anxiety seems to ebb and flow with life’s seasons? One month you feel balanced and the next, small worries spiral into sleepless nights and racing thoughts. For many women, this isn’t random, it’s deeply linked to our hormones and the life stages we move through.

WHEN HORMONES MEET LIFE

Why Anxiety Can Feel Louder at Certain Stages

If this resonates, Sonya would love to hear your reflections, maybe you’re navigating matrescence, menopause, or another stage entirely. Maybe your partner is navigating these issues. What has helped you stay grounded?

Get in touch with her to have a chat - these are conversations best had together! www.sonyacbt.com

I often meet women who think there’s something ‘wrong’ with them for struggling, I am often told by women they think that they should be able to cope, have everything all figured out. Whether in the messy middle of new motherhood or in the middle years of perimenopause. But there isn’t anything wrong with you. What you are experiencing is your body and mind responding to powerful internal and external changes. It is not your fault that you are feeling like this, there is nothing wrong with you, it is a powerful transformative stage of life.

Hormones like oestrogen and progesterone don’t just influence our menstrual cycle, they affect brain chemistry too. They play a role in serotonin and GABA, the neurotransmitters that help regulate mood and anxiety. So when hormone levels fluctuate, during your cycle, after having a baby, or through perimenopause, you may feel more sensitive, restless, or even like you’re on constant high alert. Anxiety in these moments is not weakness, it’s your physiology responding to change. Don’t forget, anxiety is a protective emotion that evolution has provided to keep you safe, treat it like a barometer.

There are ways to support your system. Movement, nourishing food - carbohydrate at key times, sleep routines, supplements and limiting alcohol can help regulate fluctuations. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is also worth considering, not just for menopause but for conditions like PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), where hormonal changes can severely impact mood and anxiety. The NICE guidelines recommend HRT not just for physical symptoms, but also where low mood or anxiety are linked to hormonal shifts. This can be used instead of or before anti-depressants (SSRI’s) or other medication. It’s always worth speaking with your GP or specialist about what might help you feel steadier.

Matrescence is the word used to describe the huge transition of becoming a mother. And it isn’t a quick one. It doesn’t end after birth or maternity leave, it unfolds across the lifetime of your baby, child, or teen. Each stage brings new roles: the sleeplessness of infancy, the juggle of school life, the complexity of guiding teenagers towards independence. It’s beautiful, yes, but it can also

be messy and overwhelming. This transition reshapes relationships too. Friendships shift, partnerships get renegotiated, family dynamics change, and work can feel like another arena of pressure or identity conflict. Naming this process can be powerful. Knowing that matrescence is a recognised, ongoing transition (not something you ‘should’ have already figured out) helps ease shame and loneliness. Support, from therapy, appropriately honest conversations with friends, or communities of mothers, makes this path easier to walk.

Menopause is another stage often framed only in physical terms: hot flushes, night sweats, brain fog. Beneath that is a profound emotional shift and an ever evolving woman, who is in a powerful and transformative life stage. From this period of change and transition, a strength and a power can emerge.

Declining oestrogen can affect mood, sleep, and even memory, sometimes leaving women feeling anxious or as if they’ve lost their footing. At the same time, life often piles on: parenting teenagers through exams or identity struggles, caring for ageing parents, managing career transitions, or reflecting on who we are beyond our roles.

No wonder many women feel stretched thin. This isn’t just about hormones, it’s about identity, relationships, and the competing demands of midlife.

Therapy can offer a place to explore these changes, but support doesn’t stop there. Many women find strength in reconnecting with themselves, revisiting old passions, or daring to try new ones. Playfulness is often underestimated, yet laughter, creativity, and joy can bring enormous relief in this stage. Making space for fun isn’t frivolous, it’s healing and life changing.

Whatever stage you’re in, anxiety can be present - it is a protective, primary emotion. It means your body and mind are responding to change. Talking therapies like CBT can give you tools to calm your nervous system and untangle unhelpful thought patterns. Equally important is self-compassion, being kind to yourself, meeting you needs, recognising that you deserve care, kindness, and support.

THE GUT BRAIN CONNECTION

WHY YOUR BELLY MIGHT BE RUNNING THE SHOW

We’ve all had “gut feelings,” but did you know your gut and brain are in constant conversation? This isn’t just a poetic metaphor- it’s science! The gut houses around 100 trillion bacteria, collectively known as the gut microbiome. These tiny tenants produce neurotransmitters like serotonin, which is often dubbed the “happy hormone.” In fact, about 90% of serotonin is made in the gut, not the brain.

W hen your gut’s microbiome is balanced, it supports digestion, strengthens the immune system and even helps regulate mood. But an unhappy gut - think too many takeaways, stress, or antibiotics can disrupt this balance, leading to bloating, fatigue and even low mood or anxiety.

S cientists call this two-way communication the gutbrain axis. Essentially, if your gut bacteria are having a bad day, your brain may follow suit. That’s why looking after your gut is about more than avoiding indigestion; it’s a vital part of nurturing mental wellbeing.

GUT FRIENDLY FOODS AND WHY THEY WORK

Next time someone says “you are what you eat,” take it seriously. After all, a happy gut really can mean a happier mind!

Yoghurt & Kefir

Yoghurt is teeming with live cultures, or probiotics, that help replenish good gut bacteria. It’s great for balancing digestion and supporting your immune system. Kefir is a fermented milk drink which contains a wide variety of probiotic strains, more than most yoghurts, helping to diversify your gut flora.

Korea’s national dish is a spicy, fermented powerhouse. Kimchi delivers probiotics, antioxidants and vitamins A and C. Its chilli kick also helps metabolism, while fibre supports digestion.

THE GOOD NEWS?

You don’t need a degree in biochemistry to keep your gut thriving. A varied diet, packed with fibre, fermented foods and colourful fruit and vegetables, can do wonders. Add in good sleep, regular movement alongside stress management and your belly bugs will be singing your praises.

Sauerkraut

This tangy fermented cabbage isn’t just for topping hot dogs. Sauerkraut is loaded with probiotics and fibre, both of which support a healthy microbiome. It’s also rich in vitamin C, giving your immunity a nice seasonal boost.

An apple a day really can help the doctor stay away. Apples are full of fibre, especially pectin, which acts as a prebiotic. They’re also packed with antioxidants to fight inflammation. Apples

Garlic

Garlic is a prebiotic food, meaning it feeds the beneficial bacteria in your gut. It also has natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a double win for immunity and digestion.

Lentils

These humble pulses are fibre powerhouses. They help digestion, regulate blood sugar and keep gut bacteria thriving. Lentils are also packed with protein and iron, making them a great plant-based staple.

Kimchi

RECLAIMING YOUR SPARK IN MIDLIFE

For many women, midlife arrives with a quiet question: Is this it? The children are grown, the career is steady, and life looks fine on the surface — but something inside feels restless, uncertain, or missing. It’s not that anything is “wrong”. It’s simply that the old ways of being, no longer fit.

That’s where The Wild Becoming begins. Founded by Heather Lawson, a Therapeutic Coach based in Kent, The Wild Becoming offers space for women to reconnect with themselves through conversation, reflection, and nature-based coaching. Heather’s approach helps women remember who they are beneath all the roles they’ve carried — and to start shaping a life that feels truly their own.

“Midlife doesn’t need fixing,” Heather says. “It needs rewilding.”

Her work blends lived experience with therapeutic training and gentle body-based practices. Sessions are part conversation, part deep listening, and part rediscovery — helping women unpick what’s been

weighing them down and find a renewed sense of aliveness.

Heather’s one-to-one coaching journey — The Radiant Pause — is an invitation to step off life’s treadmill and reconnect with what truly matters. Through grounding tools and moments of stillness, she helps women breathe again, trust themselves, and feel at home in their bodies and lives.

There’s no pressure to “do more” or “be better.” Just the space to pause, feel, and slowly find your footing again. For women who’ve spent years caring for everyone else, The Wild Becoming is a gentle reminder that midlife isn’t the end of something — it’s the beginning of a radiant new chapter.

Rediscover Yourself in Midlife

This fabulous sushi spot has quickly become a great pick for anyone craving fresh, flavoursome Japanese food, whether it’s a quick lunch break, tasty takeaway, or a leisurely meal with friends.

We couldn’t resist popping in to see what all the fuss was about. From the moment we walked in, the welcoming atmosphere and modern décor set the tone for what promised to be a great meal. The staff were friendly and happy to guide us through the menu, which is packed with a wide variety of freshly made sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi, as well as some hot dishes for those seeking something a little different.

If you’ve been wandering around Sevenoaks High Street lately, you might have noticed a new addition to the town’s dining scene - Iro Sushi!

New Takeaway in Town!

Their menu offers a bit of everything and we left feeling full, happy, and already planning our next order!

We decided to sample a selection of sushi, and we were genuinely impressed. Each piece was beautifully presented and packed with flavour, the rice perfectly seasoned, the fish fresh and the combination of textures and tastes hitting just the right note!

It’s clear that Iro Sushi takes pride in both quality and presentation, offering generous portions with fresh ingredients!

Start as you mean to go on...

We started with a round of small dishes to share. The miso soup was a simple but comforting startwarming and full of flavour without being too salty. The chicken yakitori skewers were tender, perfectly grilled and glazed with a lovely sweet soy sauce. The king prawn tempura arrived crisp and light and their signature starter platter was a fun mix of sushi and sides, giving us a nice variety to nibble on while we decided on mains.

Sushi-wise, we went for a few of their special rolls. The dynamite salmon crunchy, the iro special roll and the rainbow roll.

“Iro Sushi brings a little taste of Japan to Sevenoaks.”

Join us for our open morning on Friday 30 January, from 9am-12pm, and experience the th magic of Somerhill.

A beautifully unique independent prep school for girls and and boys aged 2-13 admissions@somerhill org | 01732 375951 | somerhill org

Each one was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The dynamite salmon had just the right level of spice and crunch, while the iro special felt like a real house favourite, fresh, well-balanced and satisfying!

For mains, we chose the chicken katsu curry and salmon teriyaki. Both came in (very) generous portions and we felt they were wholesome and full of flavour. The katsu curry sauce was mouth-wateringly rich while the salmon teriyaki was cooked perfectly, with a lovely sticky glaze that paired nicely with rice and veg.

By the time we’d finished, we couldn’t quite manage dessert straight away, so we saved them for later - and they were worth the wait! The mango ochi was soft and refreshing, while the dorayaki custard was a light, sweet finish to a brilliant meal.

Located at 90 High St, Iro Sushi is perfect for a lunch stop during a busy day in town, or a tasty takeaway, great to enjoy with friends! They deliver great quality food, generous portions and friendly service. We’d definitely recommend giving it a try. You can order online or find out more at - www.irosushi.com

PUTTING SEVENOAKS BUSINESSES CENTRE STAGE

"Celebrating the success, spirit and innovation of our local business community"

A brand-new celebration of local enterprise is coming to our community, with the launch of the Sevenoaks District Business Awards, to be held at Sevenoaks School in early 2027. Heart of Sevenoaks are proud press sponsor of this exciting new event!

The awards will shine a spotlight on the businesses, entrepreneurs and community champions who make Sevenoaks, Westerham and the surrounding postcodes such vibrant, inspiring places to live and work. They will recognise excellence across the district, from our high streets and family-run shops to pioneering start-ups and established enterprises that continue to drive our local economy forward.

Categories will include Retail, Food and Drink, Creative Businesses, Health and Wellbeing, and Hair and Beauty, as well as awards that shine a light on our Micro Businesses, Small Businesses and Large Businesses. There will also be a very special Members’ Choice Award, giving members of the TN card the opportunity to nominate and celebrate their favourite TN Card businesses in Sevenoaks.

But beyond the trophies and titles, the focus of the evening is community - an opportunity

The awards are the vision of Jess Gibson, founder and Managing Director of the TN card, the reward card that saves members money when supporting local businesses. Jess is also the driving force behind the hugely successful Tunbridge Wells Business Awards and Tonbridge Business Awards, two muchloved annual celebrations that have become highlights of the local business calendar.

Following the success of those events, Jess felt it was time for Sevenoaks and its neighbouring towns and villages to have their own evening of recognition. “Through the TN card I have the privilege

of supporting and working alongside so many incredible Sevenoaks businesses,” says Jess. “The awards provide a welcome opportunity to thank, recognise and celebrate the remarkable talent, creativity and commitment behind these businesses and the contribution they make to our communities.”

The Sevenoaks District Business Awards will follow the same much-loved format as the Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells Business Awards: a theatrestyle evening, beginning with a sparkling drinks reception, followed by an awards ceremony in the school’s auditorium.

for the district’s businesses to come together, share their stories and take pride in all that makes Sevenoaks such a special place to live and work.

With planning already underway, excitement is building for what promises to be a highlight of the 2027 business calendar. More details, including sponsors, judges and how to enter, will be announced over the coming year.

A Spoonful of Kent: Traditional Beekeeping in Kent

There’s something magical about lifting the lid on a jar of golden honey and watching the light dance across its amber depths.

For many of us, honey is little more than a spread for toast, or a sweetener for tea, but here in Kent - honey is something of a cultural artefact. Each spoonful is a reflection of the orchards, hedgerows and wildflower meadows that define the county’s landscape.

Bees and Beekeepers: A Heritage as Old as Time

The practice of keeping bees in Britain dates back to the Romans, who introduced new techniques, and the Saxons, who valued honey as both food and medicine. Back then, honey was more than a sweet treat; it was a vital resource, used to brew mead, preserve food, and soothe ailments. Monasteries in medieval Kent often kept hives, producing honey not just for their kitchens but for healing balms and candles.

Of course, the craft has changed over the centuries. Skeps — those traditional straw beehives — gave way to wooden hives in the 19th century, revolutionising beekeeping by allowing honey to be harvested without destroying the colony. Today’s local beekeepers balance tradition with technology. Many still follow age-old rhythms of the seasons, yet they also use modern hive tools, mite treatments, and even smartphone apps to track hive health. Despite the advances, the heart of beekeeping remains the same: patience, observation and a deep respect for the bees!

Why Kent Honey Matters

So why should you care whether your honey comes from Kent, or a supermarket shelf? For one, flavour. Mass-market honey is often pasteurised, filtered, and blended until all individuality is lost. Kent honey, on the other hand, is alive with complexity, shaped by the county’s unique landscape. It’s not just a product — it’s a connection to place, a spoonful of history and geography.

And then there’s the wider impact: supporting local beekeepers sustains rural economies, protects pollinator habitats and keeps the ancient craft of beekeeping alive. Buying locally is an investment in biodiversity, tradition and the taste of the Garden of England!

Tucked away in Otford, The Artisan Apiary exemplifies the balance of heritage and modernity. Founded in 2018, the family-run business is rooted in three generations of beekeeping. “We follow in the footsteps of our elders,” they say, “taking pride in simple, slow and sustainable ways of caring for our bees.”

Their ethos is clear: from nature to the hive, from the hive to the jar — nothing less, nothing more. Their bees forage across the South East London fringes and the North Downs of Kent, producing honey that is pure, single-origin and bursting with the character of the landscape. Unlike the massproduced supermarket stuff, their honey is raw, unpasteurised and untreated. It’s honey as nature intended - complex, aromatic, and alive with enzymes and pollen.

The Artisan Apiary’s offers incredible products including their natural wildflower honey, creamed honey, crunchy honey and even whole honeycomb frames for those who fancy a proper beekeeper’s indulgence. Their hand-rolled beeswax candles are also a nod to the old monastic traditions of Kent!

Kentish honey tells a story of bees buzzing in apple blossom, of lavender fields humming with life, of chestnut trees dripping with nectar... and as it turns out, the beekeepers of Kent are as much storytellers as they are caretakers of the hive!

MAISON PARTNERSHIP

For most of us, moving house is one of life’s biggest milestones. It’s exciting, often emotional and maybe - sometimes a little overwhelming. That’s where the right estate agent makes all the difference!

In Kent, Maison Partnership has built a reputation for doing things a little differently, providing not only expertise and professionalism but also a refreshing personal touch!

For anyone thinking of selling, buying, or simply curious about what makes them different, Maison Partnership continues to show that homes are stories waiting to be told.

If you’d like to find out more about Maison Partnership, please visit: www.maisonpartnership.com

'EVERY HOME TELLS A STORY'

Maison Partnership was founded by Damian and Zac, who between them have decades of experience in senior management at a busy East Surrey agency. Both had seen first-hand how estate agency often relied too heavily on tradition, with clients left feeling more like numbers than people. Over coffee and countless conversations, they began to shape a new idea of an estate agency with a boutique feel, blending creativity with honesty and designed for the modern property market.

Damian and Zac have built something that feels more personal and more thoughtful, where each client receives the same level of care and attention, whether they are selling a cosy cottage, a family home, or a sprawling country property. The team believe every home has a story and their job is to help tell it. It’s not enough to simply show square footage and fixtures; buyers want to connect emotionally with a space. By capturing a property’s essence - those sunlit windows, ornate details, snug corners, or sweeping gardens, all create a narrative that allows potential buyers to imagine life there. Maison has become well-known for the way they style and stage homes. It’s an approach that blends careful planning with creativity.

Every photograph is curated to highlight atmosphere and lifestyle, not just the practical details. For instance, a hallway might be shown with a pair of muddy boots by the door, suggesting family walks in the Kent Downs. A dining table may be styled for a dinner party, inviting buyers to picture evenings with friends and family.

While presentation is one of Maison’s strengths, it’s their service that keeps clients recommending them time and again. From the moment a client signs on, they’re paired with a dedicated agent who knows their property inside and out. This personal relationship means there’s always someone available to answer questions, chase progress, or simply provide reassurance. Plus, in an age where speed matters, Maison also uses WhatsApp to provide instant updates. This straightforward approach cuts out unnecessary delays and avoids the endless game of phone tag that so often frustrates both buyers and sellers!

"Maison Partnership continues to show that homes are stories waiting to be told!"

Just as importantly, Maison operates without long, restrictive contracts. Damian and Zac believe that trust, not obligation, should be the foundation of their client relationships. Transparency is key with no hidden small print - just honest advice from a team that genuinely wants the best outcome.

Their local expertise is matched by marketing that stretches far wider, ensuring properties are seen not only by the Kent community but also by buyers relocating from London and beyond. The

“Their meticulous eye

for detail

not only elevates the property’s appeal, but also helps justify its asking price.”

combination of local insight and broad exposure has allowed Maison to carve out a unique place in the market. They know how to position each property to attract the right kind of buyer, whether that’s a young family seeking schools and green spaces or a retiree looking for peace and character.

Estate agency has long been seen as a rather traditional business, but Damian and Zac have shown that creativity and modern thinking can go handin-hand with trust and reliability. Their work has been de-

scribed as “market disrupting” and “forward-thinking,” and they’ve earned that reputation by challenging the status quo. By focusing on lifestyle rather than transactions, Maison Partnership has made buying and selling homes a more human, more enjoyable process. Maison has become a trusted name across Kent, recognised for their distinctive style and unwavering dedication to their clients.

They’ve proven that estate agencies don’t have to be impersonal or standard - They can be beautifully unique!

A CLEAR START TO YOUR NEW CHAPTER

Why more couples are choosing a Nuptial Agreement

Once seen as the preserve of celebrities and the superwealthy, Nuptial Agreements have become a thoughtful choice for many couples. Associate Solicitor at Berry & Lamberts Solicitors, Janet Raeburn, explains more.

What is a Nuptial Agreement?

Nuptial Agreements (pre-nuptial if made before the wedding and post-nuptial if made afterwards) are used by couples to establish how they would like their finances arranged if they ever separated. Handled sensitively, a Nuptial Agreement is about organising your finances with clarity.

Are Nuptial Agreements binding?

Nuptial Agreements aren’t automatically binding in England and Wales, but over time have been given increasingly greater weight. A landmark court decision in 2010 confirmed that unless it is unfair to do so, the court should give effect to a Nuptial Agreement entered into by the parties freely and with a full understanding of its implications. Reasons to challenge a

Nuptial Agreement may include:

-         Lack of legal advice

-         Lack of accurate financial information

-         The presence of factors such as duress, fraud, and misrepresentation

-         Most commonly - the Agreement is unfair due to not meeting the needs of a party or any children.

Timing matters too – a pre-nuptial agreement can take time to finalise and ideally should be signed at least 28 days before the wedding.

Why do couples choose one?

A nuptial agreement reflects the practicalities of modern life, and for many this means protecting a pre-owned home, funds gifted by family, an expected inheritance, or a share in a family business. For blended families, it can also offer reassurance that children from a previous relationship remain protected.

POSITIVE MINDSET SHIFTS

...for the everyday workday

Let’s face it - some mornings, your alarm feels like a personal attack and your inbox looks like a horror film. But a positive mindset isn’t about pretending everything’s perfect; it’s about learning to spot the small wins among the chaos.

First things first: start with gratitude, even if it’s just for your coffee. A quick mental note of three good things such as the sunshine, working Wi-Fi and a great lunch ahead can reset your mood before you’ve even opened your emails.

Next, reframe the grumbles. Got a tricky colleague? Think of them as a free lesson in patience. A last-minute deadline may be chance to show off your inner hero. It sounds cheesy, but turning problems into opportunities actually rewires how you handle stress.

A crucial tip is to move your body. A quick stroll to the printer (even if you don’t need to print anything), or a five minute stretch can shake off tension and fresh air and a change of scene do wonders for your brain.

Don’t forget to always celebrate the small stuff. Recognising small victories keeps you motivated and reminds you that progress and not perfection is what counts!

On those days when work feels like you’re moving in slow motion, take a deep breath and smile. Staying positive isn’t about dodging the madness - it’s about finding your rhythm in the middle of it and preferably with a cup of tea in hand!!
