“Aquí se vive por y para el turismo” “Pienso que estando Sotogrande dentro de la comarca, haciendo eso, le están dando la espalda. Lo veo un sin sentido. Sotogrande es el motor principal de San Roque, así como de otros tantos municipios de alrededor. Hay mucha gente que viene a trabajar al puerto; el volumen de empleo que genera Sotogrande es muy alto. El Ayuntamiento se verá obligado a recortar el presupuesto en algunos sitios, no me cabe la menor duda, ¿pero de Turismo? San Roque apenas tiene agricultura, ni ganadería, y sí, San Roque tiene industria… pero en la práctica, todos sabemos que aquí se vive por y para el turismo”.

“Me parece una soberana estupidez que se carguen el Patronato de Turismo teniendo en Sotogrande su principal fuente económica. Es una de esas cosas incomprensibles que se hace en política. Supongo que será una maniobra más, una de esas que sólo los políticos comprenden. Hay que recortar donde se pueda, pero nunca donde hay posibilidades de generar más dinero y empleo. Sotogrande compite con otros municipios turísticos, como Marbella y Estepona, por lo que se debe invertir para que la gente vea que no nos estamos quedando atrás”.

“I think that, with Sotogrande within the comarca, by doing this they are turning their backs on it. It seems senseless. Sotogrande is the main driving force for San Roque and other municipalities in the surrounding area. A lot of people come to work at the harbour; many jobs are created in Sotogrande. The Municipal Council will be obliged to cut the budget in some places, I am sure, but in tourism? San Roque hardly has any agriculture or livestock; it does have industry, but in practice we all know that we live from and for tourism”.
“It seems to me a great act of stupidity that they should kill off the Tourist Board while Sotogrande is the main source of income. It is one of those incomprehensible things that are done in politics. I presume it will be just another manoeuvre, one of those things that only the politicians understand. We have to save money where we can, but never where there is a chance to generate more wealth and employment. Sotogrande competes with other tourist areas like Marbella and Estepona, so we should invest so that people can see we’re not being left behind”.
“La decisión no es muy acertada, ya que es precisamente el turismo una de las principales fuentes de ingresos de la comarca. Es contraproducente para todos y, además, nos afecta directamente a los que trabajamos en el Puerto de Sotogrande. En tiempos de crisis hay que trabajar más, pero también venderse más y mejor al extranjero. Por ello, la promoción es muy importante en todo momento. Ya sabemos que Sotogrande se mueve principalmente fuera de nuestras fronteras, y así es como debe seguir siendo”.

Por esta zona, el turismo es fundamental y no se le puede quitar importancia a algo que es la principal fuente de ingresos. Así, están perjudicando a todos los negocios de la región. Podrían haber recortado por otros sitios y no en Turismo, cuando aquí lo que abundan son turistas y negocios para turistas”.

We already know that Sotogrande gets most of its business from beyond its borders, which is how it should remain”.

In this area tourism is essential and you cannot detract from something that is the main source of income. They are harming all the local businesses. They could have made cuts in other areas, but not tourism; one thing we have an abundance of here is tourists and businesses catering for them”.

Si los que tienen negocios en el Puerto de Sotogrande ya lo están pasando mal económicamente, ahora con este contratiempo, saldremos todos aún más perjudicados. Además, es un recorte que no tiene mucho sentido: ¿no es el turismo lo que atrae a Sotogrande tantos y tantos turistas?”.
