We offer FREE, after-school coding courses taught by qualified, tech industry professionals. No prior coding experience required.All classes are hands-on and project based in order to build portfolios. Our students participate in 9 months of classes in order to qualify for a paid, technical internship.

This is an opportunity for female High School students.

Professional Development

“Just in Time” Professional Development

We are excited to bring back this professional development opportunity for the teachers of our STAAR tested courses. These half-day sessions will allow teachers to dive deeper into their respective content areas and plan for upcoming units of instruction. ELAR teachers will also have the opportunity to calibrate and score papers for extended constructed responses. Details below:

● “Just in Time” PD Schedule

○ Focus is on STAAR tested courses AND a session for 1st and 2nd grades in the spring semester

○ Half day sessions are utilized to maximize sub coverage for a campus

■ FYI - Elementary sessions are divided into Group A and Group B to assist with sub coverage

● Campus administrator approval is required to attend

● Pending administrator approval,please register in eduphoria one week prior to the session and get with your Principal’s secretary for retaining a substitute teacher.

● Teachers should NOT be entering substitutes into SmartFind for the “Just in Time” sessions. The Principal’s secretary must coordinate and enter the sub job for the teachers.

Professional Development

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for 23-24 Aspiring Administrator Academy

A yearlong professional development opportunity designed to prepare those who aspire to move into administration. The learning is designed with a focus on developing and enhancing leadership skills and knowledge of the five dimensions of the Portrait of a Hays Administrator: Creative Visionary,Effective Communicator,Dedicated Professional,Lifelong Learner,and Inspiring Catalyst.

The Curriculum and Instruction Department is now accepting applications for the 2023-24 Aspiring Administrators Academy. Emergent leadership is one of the most critical factors in having successful schools. Hays CISD is committed to finding emergent leaders within the district and developing them to become future leaders in the district. If you are interested in moving into a campus level administrative position (academic dean, or assistant principal) the Aspiring Administrator Academy is an excellent opportunity for you to receive training on the skills necessary to be a successful administrator.

Applications will be reviewed and candidates will be selected based on a set criteria that includes:

1. Completed Aspiring Administrators Application using the Google Form link. This application must include completed open ended response questions,resume,recommendation letters,video task, leadership experiences and professional development experiences.

2. Master’s Degree completion w/Principal certification or progress in a master’s program and within 6 hours of completing the certification program.

Who is eligible to apply? Teachers,Directors and Coordinators,Counselors,Instructional Coach, Interventionist and/or other Professionals who have conferred or are pursuing a master’s degree with principal certification.

What is the application process? In the application,you will be asked to upload several documents including your leadership experiences,professional development/workshops that you have created/presented,resume,and 3 Letters of recommendation. There will be a set of open ended response questions that you will answer and there is a 300 word maximum per question. You will also create and upload a video task. All instructions are included in the application. Once the applications have been reviewed,we will be setting up interviews for the final part of the application process for the selected applicants.

When is the application due? Applications are due on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 4:00 pm. Once the deadline to apply passes all applications will be reviewed to determine the applicants that will move forward to the in person interview process. The selected applicants will then be notified by the Curriculum and Instruction Office of their selection via email.

INSPIRE New Teacher

ATTENTION all INSPIRE Teachers

Please review the calendar of the INSPIRE district training sessions below and talk with your campus secretary about securing the substitute for the 3 half day trainings. The trainings are split up into smaller groups based on your grade level and/or content areas and you will only attend the session that applies to you.

● You will NOT need to use personal time for these days. Your campus secretary will assist with the substitute process.

● INSPIRE Training Dates (reference District Training sessions in Sept., Oct., and Jan./Feb)

○ First sessions begin September

● Our goal is to have you attend all three sessions. We recognize with seasonal illnesses and substitute concerns this may not always happen. We will work closely with your campuses to try to support your attendance at each session.

National Board Certified Teacher Cohort 1 and 2 are Underway!

Let’s celebrate and support our teachers that are working towards National Board Certification, the highest and most respected certification in education!

Each cohort meets once a month for 2 hour sessions where they learn about the national board teaching standards, reflect on teaching practices and receive guidance on requirements! Cohort 1 is starting year 2 and Cohort 2 is beginning their journey in year 1!

Advanced Academics

OnRampsTeachers: Please remind students that the deadline to pay for OnRamps courses is September 15, 2023.

Students who have not paid by that time will be dropped from the course and placed in the corresponding high school course.

Hays CISD subsidizes to make the cost $124 per course ($25 for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch). Since the Rhetoric (English) and U.S. History courses are worth two college credits, there will be one payment due for the fall semester and one for the spring semester (for a total of $248 [$50 for students who qualify for free/reduced lunch]).

There are two ways to pay.

● One is through RevTrak, our online store (Please note that there is a 4% surcharge for online payments.) If a student is enrolled in more than one OnRamps course, each course will need to be added separately. Directions for how to do this are on the lower right of the payment page.

● The other is to take cash or check for the course(s) to the campus bookkeeper. These individuals are:

We are off to a wonderful start to the ‘23-’24 Hays CISDAthletic season! We have already begun HS Volleyball, Cross Country,Tennis, Water Polo, and Football. Middle School Athletics starts Football, Volleyball, and Cross Country this week. We would like to highlight several awesome things that have gone on already to start the school year! Hays VB coach Marci Laracuente won her 400th game as a head coach! Billy Martinez and his grounds crew continue to do a great job keeping our fields playable and decorating Shelton Stadium for home football games! On Friday, September 1st we will be hostingThe Clary Clash Water Polo tournament that includes all 3 Hays CISD teams. We have one home game at Shelton Stadium this Friday that features the Johnson Jaguars vs Lake Belton. There are several programs that have embraced community service such as the Jaguar football team (pictured above) helping greet students at Elm Grove Elementary. It is going to be an exciting year!

McCormick Middle School’s Janson Bass was Pugged!

Oscar the PUG made his first stop of 23-24 at McCormick MS to visit Mr. Janson Bass because we think Mr. Bass is Pretty Unbelievably Great! Mr. Bass has spent so much time during our teacher prep days mentoring new teachers to CTE and we very much appreciate all of the time he has dedicated to helping them!

Our CTETeam is so glad to have all of our teachers back for this school year! We were able to get lots of fantastic first day of school pictures from many of our campuses.

Elementary Literacy

Ms. Valdez and Ms. Medeiros in Kinder at BVES rocking their HMH read alouds with explicit vocabulary instruction and sentence stems for predictions.

Ms. Klein in 2nd grade at BVES teaching a grammar lesson on complete sentences. She consistently used randomness to check for understanding.

Ms. Peck in 2nd grade at BVES reinforcing central idea using the anchor chart from HMH. She did an excellent job questioning her students and uses scaffolds as needed.

A5th grade student at KES prepares to write a response about author’s purpose by consulting the anchor charts in her reader’s notebook and the text in HMH..

Austin Regional Science Fair is now GreaterAustin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF).The website has changed, and it is now located at www.austinscience.org

The 2024 fair will take place at the Palmer Event Center on February 21-24. Teacher orientation is Sep 7 (3-4:30) online.

Our 2ndAnnual Hays History Day event will be January 20, 2023 at Hays High School.This event ties into theTexas History Day event and the National History Day event and is a fantastic opportunity for students to display their knowledge and interest in humanities from grades 4-12. It is also a great option for GTShowcase projects.

History Day Flyers have been sent to all campuses for Open House on Sept 12. We will hold a CampusAdvisor meeting on zoom on Sept 14th and a Community Information Meeting on September 21st. Sign up for the zoom meeting here!
