The Remind app is now restricting Remind accounts in our district to an unknown number of weekly messages.

Your campus can purchase a Remind Hub account for $4/student.There is not a way to purchase an individual teacher license. This will allow unlimited messaging to be sent to groups that have been created under your school.
We would recommend using Schoology groups instead. We can import students into a group using their ID number. Parents are already attached to students in the program and can add their cell phone numbers to their profiles.
#DigCitWeek is coming up on October 16-20.There are lots of activities and lessons prepared by Common Sense Media to use with your students. Click on a Calendar link below to see the recommended lessons!

INSPIRE New Teacher
September INSPIRE Recap
New-to-profession teachers revisited their classroom management plans they created over the summer and reflected on their classroom procedures and expectations. We then focused in on student behaviors and discussed reasons for misbehavior and ways they can both prevent and respond based on the root cause of the behavior. Participants also learned about teacher behaviors and how we respond matters.
Resources for Responding
We love the four questions from Capturing Kids’ Hearts as a simple way to redirect off-task behavior. The 2x10 strategy is one of our favorites for giving positive attention and making connections with our students that are seeking it.

Click the image below to read more about the 2x10 strategy.
A well run classroom doesn’t just happen because of a teacher’s personality. It takes planning, intentionality, and consistency to build a well-managed classroom. Teaching is an art form!

Advanced Academics
Teachers ofAPand OnRamps classes will meet at the Buda Public Library from 10 a.m.- Noon on Friday, October 6.

OnRamps teachers, please make sure that your rosters for UT reflect the students on your Hays CISD roster. UT Fall Course Sensus is today, Friday, September 29.
Advancing Academics
Did you know that the number of students in advanced coursework in grades 6-12 has grown from 4533 (37%) in the 2021-22 school year to 6207 (49%) in the 2023-24 school year?! Thanks to teachers who have prepared students for advanced work and who have recruited them into advanced classes. Thanks to counselors who have pushed and encouraged students during course registration.

More students in advanced coursework in middle and early high school leads to more students in college-aligned coursework (Advanced Placement, ACC Dual Credit, UT OnRamps) by the end of high school After a dip in course enrollments and college credits earned during the pandemic, our enrollment in college-aligned courses is higher than it’s ever been, and we’re on track to beat our previous number of college credits earned in one year.

Hays CISD Athletics

Hays CISD was chosen as a pilot program for THSCA’s Coaches vs Overdoses. This program raises awareness of teenage overdoses by using an informational PSA and handing out drug disposal packets at Varsity Football Games at Shelton Stadium.

Construction has begun for the artificial turf projects at Johnson and Hays High School’s softball and baseball fields! Paragon Sports Construction began work at the end of September to install turf at all 6 Hays CISD softball and baseball fields. Lehman High School will be getting a whole new complex at their fields along with the turf that includes new stands, dugouts, concessions, and ticket booths. Due to previously scheduled construction at Lehman’s fields, they will begin on these projects at the end of October. All of these projects are planned to be completed in time for all of our schools to be ready to play on them before the season begin at the end of January. Exciting times!

Hays CISD Athletics

The Bob Shelton Coach of the Week is still going strong! This is a great opportunity for our coaches to be recognized for all of the fantastic things they do at Hays CISD!

We are in full swing here with athletics at Hays CISD! Middle School football, cross country, and volleyball are in the middle of their seasons with great participation numbers! We also are competing in team tennis, water polo, volleyball, cross country, and football at the high school. District play has begun form most of our sports and playoff will be here soon!

CTE (COOLEST TEACHERS EVER!)
Our CTE team “pugged” Dahlstrom’s Nathan Studebaker because he's Pretty Unbelievably Great! He is starting theAg and FFAprogram at DMS this year and we love to see it taking off because of all of his hard work!
Our Project Lead the Way middle school engineering cluster lead, Chris Glynn, was “pugged” at Barton because he is Pretty Unbelievably Great! Mr. Glynn is always quick to step up to mentor new engineering teachers across the district.

We “pugged” CulinaryTeacher Catherine Lively at Johnson HS because she is Pretty Unbelievably Great! Her students cater, make to-go lunches for the teachers and healthy snacks to sell at the bus stop in the afternoons.

Reminder: COW Day (Careers on Wheels Day) has been moved to November 14, 2023. Workforce Development Coordinator, Joe Henderson will be sending out more details in the near future. COW Day is for all 8th graders in the district so they can hear from CTE teachers and talk to industry partners before they register for their high school classes.
