Positions & Body Parts with Wood Pieces Children need to know words to communicate and follow directions. They need to feel a sense of belonging and participating. It’s fun for them to follow you. Big Line up in the air, under your chair, etc. Have fun! As children follow you, they learn not just words but how to imitate, pay attention, and respond quickly.
Materials • Wood Pieces Set for Capital Letters
Activity 1. Give each child one Big Line. 2. S ay the position words as you demonstrate. Children imitate and say them, too. 3. S ay body parts as you touch them with a Big Line. Children imitate and say them, too.
Hold the Big Line up in the air. Move it up and down.
Hold the Big Line under your chair. Move it under your arm, and over your arm.
Hold the Big Line in front of you. Move it behind your back, between your fingers. Hold it at the bottom, it’s vertical.
Climb up and down the Big Line. Hold it at the top, middle, and bottom.
