Songs for Lowercase
You can play Mystery Letters with children as a fun way to develop good habits. Mystery Letter activities teach correct letter formation. The secret is to make the first stroke correctly before telling children the name of the letter they’re going to make. This ensures they start the letter correctly.
Materials
• Slate Chalkboard (1 per child) • Little Chalk Bits (1") • Paper towel pieces • Gray Block Paper
Activity
1. Gather the Slate Chalkboards, Little Chalk Bits, and paper towels for erasing. 2. Say the directions for a capital letter, leaving the last part a mystery (see directions below). Have children practice Wet-Dry-Try after completing the letter.
Note: Play the Mystery Letter games to reinforce correct habits for Starting Corner and Center Starting Capitals. You can play these games on Gray Block Paper.
