Build Mat Man® Young children are often asked to draw pictures of themselves or of other people. Mat Man teaches drawing with building and singing. First you build him, piece by piece, and then give him away piece by piece. Children sing as they put him together. They learn about body parts, where they go, and what they do. This activity will set children up for drawing him in the same way. Materials • Mat for Wood Pieces • Wood Pieces Set for Capital Letters • Mat Man accessories

Activity 1. Children sit on the floor in a circle. 2. You build Mat Man on the floor. 3. You give Mat Man’s parts to children. 4. Children build Mat Man while singing the “Mat Man” song. 5. E xtra accessories (belly button, hair, clothing, seasonal items) make Mat Man more interesting or change him into a different Mat person.
