Spillin’ Val Greenberg with

When I was approached by the publishers of Hamptons Storyboard, to develop this column, I was filled with excitement. We put our heads together and had a goal in mind to provide you, our readers, with content that would keep you informed, entertained and all the way up to speed on what’s trending. Our mission was simply to ‘Spill’ joy and positivity, hence the name of this column “Spillin’ with Val.” The power duo husband and wife team behind this magazine, Joe and Cynthia Lynn, have the warmest hearts and offered me creative control allowing me to cover topics and events that had special meaning to me, especially those involving family and philanthropy. I figured the perfect way to close out summer with you would be to share some of these experiences and everlasting memories with a photo diary capturing the essence of what matters most to me, spending time with those you love

3x Grammy Nominee, 80’s Icon, “Tell It To My Heart,” singer-Taylor Dayne! Catching up with friends that inspire you is incredibly grounding especially when you are taking walks on the beach and doing outdoor yoga together. Taylor shared some of her personal favorite spots that Santa Barbara has to offer, including Brophy’s which has the best clam chowder and views we have ever encountered.

and giving back.

My travels this summer took me from The Hamptons all the way to Santa Barbara, commonly referred to as the American Riviera, and now I know why. Starting each morning with my mom and brother enjoying breakfast at a cozy family owned establishment on the beach called Jeanine’s, who have the best chocolate chip scones we have ever tasted, was a dream. The crisp air, cloud free sky with ocean and mountain views were literally like magic for the soul. The best part was spending time with the people that matter most to me. It was also pretty epic driving through Montecito with them to see where Oprah and some of the biggest stars live.

An added bonus was that my fam and I were able to visit with one of my besties while we were out west. I used to represent her when I worked in public relations prior to working on television. My girl,

Following Santa Barbara, I returned to The Hamptons to attend The Footprint of Life Gala hosted by Amy and Gary Green. Their mission to preserve our planet brought out A-List names like Ludacris who performed hit after hit, Netflix star and activist Julia Haart as well as The Queen of Versailles Jackie Siegel. Guests got to sample her new coffee, which was perfect for me after all the traveling I was doing. The Tusk Organization was on hand for this beautiful evening as both a beneficiary of the gala and an accelerator of African-driven conservation. I feel so lucky to have been in attendance at this gala where so much good is getting done and resources are being provided for environmental causes.

I want to thank you for spending the summer with me and reading “Spillin’ with Val.” I have a lot of exciting projects on the horizon so please do stay in touch on instagram.com/valgreenberg. Have the best Labor Day with all your loved ones and remember #YouvebeenVALidated!

What’s Up with Women and Money?

Bby

uy low-sell high, pay yourself first, save ten percent of your income, don’t use all your available credit, make an extra mortgage payment, drive what you can afford, don’t buy too big of a house, who hasn’t heard of these phrases? It’s easier said than done. With many couples, one half takes control of the finances regardless of their expertise. Usually, that one half is the male partner. Take it from journalist Alison Kosik. She’s an awardwinning journalist who’s worked throughout the country for various news outlets, most recently as a business correspondent (15+ years) for CNN-she got swept up in the 2023 CNN layoffs, and she’s now a freelance reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC News (America This Morning and World News Now) here in NYC. She’s covered the markets extensively but realized she doesn’t really know how her finances are or what to do with them.

In her new book, “What’s Up with Women and Money?”, she chronicles her journey from a business savvy mother of two who has interviewed the who’s who of the business and political worlds-Warren Buffett, Mark Cuban and Hillary Clinton to name a few, to a women who was not secure in her financial abilities to confidently leave her marriage. Like most things in life, the adage, “necessity is the mother of invention/inspiration”-I like to add inspiration because not all that is needed needs to be invented, just inspired. Alison took upon the inspirational challenge of writing a book that not only speaks to women but, speaks to everyone who needs that inspiration to start to understand their financial matters.

In her book, she discusses estate planning, credit, car buying, mortgages, insurance, social security, general finance and budgeting. Besides theses topics, her book contains chapters on “How did we get here?” and “Cautionary and inspirational tales.” She also talks with inspirational women like, Jessica Alba, Rebecca Minkoff, Sheryl Sandberg, Barbara Corcoran and country singer Shelly Wright.

Her no nonsense, straight forward and simplified explanation of complicated financial topics along with her easy-to-follow financial steps to take, and financial words of wisdom make this book a must read for ALL!

Pre-sale starts September 2024 and the book hits store shelves in March 2025.

Be sure to get yours today!

Aisha McShaw’s Guide to Living Beautifully Wellness Meets Style

As a fashion designer, I often remind my clients that investing in your health and well-being is just as important as investing in your wardrobe. The relationship is symbiotic: when you feel good, you look good, and when you look good, you feel good. This belief is woven into the fabric of my life and work. The Importance of Wellness

Wellness has been the foundation of my life from an early age. I focus on nourishing foods and staying active, with regular doctor visits to keep my health in check. I ensure I get my protein along with plenty of fruits and vegetables. My mornings begin with refreshing smoothies and ample hydration. I believe in enjoying life, so I occasionally have treats like pizza, truffle french fries, ice cream and wine in moderation. To maintain this balance, I meal prep and enjoy leftovers.

Mindfulness and Movement

Mindfulness is essential to my wellness journey. I believe in the transformative

power of the mind. Each morning, I mediate and listen to affirmations that motivate me by setting a positive tone for the day. I always make daily movement a priority, exploring various fitness modalities. This keeps my mind energized and fosters creativity so that I approach each day with clarity and purpose.

I especially love Pilates, which I do twice a week with the wonderful Cheryl Tilles. Her classes challenge me and remind me of my strength. An hour in her studio energizes my body and sets a positive tone for my day. I leave empowered to face anything in both my personal life and my design studio.

Yoga is another passion. I practice at home and attend classes with Rene Diamond, who teaches Diamondfit yoga stretch—a beautiful blend of flexibility and strength. Her classes ground me, allowing me to connect with my breath and body, releasing stress and sparking creativity that flows into my designs. Running is a vital part of my routine, offering a refreshing

way to stay active. It effectively strengthens muscles and helps maintain a healthy weight. I’m able to look my best in my designs and exude a demure confidence. Empowering Women Through Fashion

In my collections, I strive to create strength, versatility and comfort. I want my designs to empower women, reminding them that they can look good and feel good while conquering the world. Wellness is not a luxury, it’s a necessity to successfully navigate our busy lives. By prioritizing our health, mind, body and soul we can truly shine inward and outward in style while conquering the world.

To my clients and readers of Hamptons Storyboard: invest in yourself. Your wardrobe will thank you, and so will your body. If you’re ready to invest in your wardrobe, reach out to our team at www.Aishamcshaw.com

Stay classic,

Aisha

Barbering is more than just a skill; it’s a timeless art form that transcends trends and spans generations. In a mere eight months of intensive training, aspiring barbers embark on a journey to become professional Master Barbers, perfecting their craft through meticulous practice and dedication.

Barbering is not merely about the act of cutting hair; it’s about providing a service that goes beyond the physical transformation. It’s about creating a sanctuary where clients can relax, unwind, and leave feeling rejuvenated and confident. It’s about cultivating an atmosphere of trust and camaraderie, where every client is treated with care and respect.

From the moment I held a pair of clippers in my hand, I knew I had found my calling. Straight out of high school, at the age of 19, I dove headfirst into the world of barbering. With a heart full of passion and a mind eager to learn, I enrolled in barber school, ready to master the art of shaping not just hair, but lives.

My journey began in a great established barbershop

up-island. Surrounded by the sound of clippers and the camaraderie of seasoned barbers, I soaked in every lesson like a sponge. After growing my skills for several years, I felt the urge to spread my wings and explore new opportunities. It led me to a studio suite in West Islip, where I found freedom and creativity in abundance. But it was in Phenix Salon Suites in Commack where I truly found my home.

Here, in my own suite, I created an oasis of style and sophistication, where clients could not only transform their appearance but also their confidence. For me, barbering is not just a profession; it’s my passion, my purpose, and my legacy. It’s the art to my life, the medium through which I express myself and connect with others.

Get Fit with OneFit!

Tell us who you are and about OneFit. I am Stanislav “Stanny” Kravchenko, the founder of OneFit personalized online fitness and a coach to BRAVO TV’s Andy Cohen. I created OneFit with the goal of providing as many people as possible the opportunity to access personalized fitness.

I offer two options for personalized fitness:

1. A monthly subscription to my online program that’s tailored to your fitness goals. This includes virtual assessments, feedback, progress tracking and 24/7 access to myself and my community.

2. Also, there is a one-time payment for my four or six-week programs. These are designed to kickstart your fitness journey toward lean muscle growth and strength, regardless of your experience level. These programs are available for at-home or gym use, accessible from my platform on your phone with video instructions.

Why hire a personal trainer?

A personal trainer is an investment in yourself and your health. Working with a professional trainer ensures that you reach your goals safely and probably much faster than if you did it on your own. A personal trainer will provide you with a workout plan, ensure you’re using proper techniques, and serve as a source of motivation by scheduling and showing up for sessions. It helps to keep you accountable. I also use trainers for these reasons. Working with a highly professional trainer helps you achieve results faster, and it’s nice to simply show up, finish your workout, and not have to think about the planning.

How can OneFit help me?

OneFit provides personalized training and gives you access to workouts tailored to your goals and body. We start with a virtual assessment to understand your goals, how you move, your areas for improvement, and your lifestyle, including your diet and relationship with exercise. When I sign up with OneFit, how soon can I get started?

Immediately. Simply book a time slot for a video assessment with me or one of my on-staff

coaches, and we’ll start building a program for you. We will consistently monitor your results to ensure the program is challenging, safe and aligned with your goals.

How do you ensure each person’s exercise program is personalized?

We take the time to understand not only your physical needs but also your lifestyle needs. This allows us to create a holistic program that you’ll want to follow consistently. While we strive for strength and a great physique, we also aim for longevity and optimal health. This approach can mean increasing your rep weight, but it also translates to practical benefits like easier grocery shopping, going on hikes with less shortness of breath and keeping up with your kids.

You train Andy Cohen; how do you go about working with such high-profile clients?

I train Andy just as I would any other person. Being on TV and always in the public eye, my goals for Andy are to ensure he looks good, stays healthy, and maintains his wellbeing. Being fit is about taking ownership of how your body moves and how you care for the temple you were born with. It’s not just about looking good; we also embody what holistic health and fitness feel like.

You were originally a gymnast in Ukraine. Why did you train as a gymnast, and how did that propel you into being a personal trainer?

‘ I love what I do, and I enjoy meeting new and interesting people.’

Yes, I started doing gymnastics when I was four years old and continued until I was 15. In Ukraine, gymnastics taught me a lot: how to work with and listen to my body, the importance of a schedule, discipline and that hard work pays off. These are great skills that I developed from a very young age.

When it was time to go to college, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to take gymnastics to the next level or be a professional gymnast. This decision was made by both me and my parents. However, I still wanted to stay active and work with my body. At the age of 15, I hired a personal trainer who helped me create a program. That program was an old-school bodybuilding regimen, which served as my entry point into the fitness world.

When I came to the United States, I continued working out and even competed in men’s physique competitions. I found that I loved training my friends, doing it for free as a hobby. This hobby eventually transitioned into my profession. I am very passionate about what I do and constantly seek to learn new things and surround myself with smart coaches and great professionals. I love what I do, and I enjoy meeting new and interesting people. As a

trainer, there’s always room for improvement and I work diligently to be the best trainer possible for my clients. What does a typical day of training look like for your clients?

Typically, clients show up 5 to 10 minutes before our session to do the warm-up routines that I developed for them based on our initial assessment. During the first session, we discuss their goals, schedule and abilities. We often plan 2 to 5 workouts per week, starting with a dynamic warm-up, followed by resistance training, and finishing with a good stretch. Clients usually spend one hour at the gym before returning to their busy day. I love when people invest in their health and bodies, and I’m happy to help them achieve their goals. What is a typical workout for you, personally, look like?

My typical workout routine is not fancy. I prefer exercises that truly work and give maximum results. Given that my clients and I both have busy schedules, I make sure my workouts are as efficient as possible. I usually focus on push, pull, and lower body exercises, aiming to work out 2 to 4 times a week, with at least two sessions of heavy resistance training.

I prioritize strength training for muscle health, mental health, bone density, longevity, and overall well-being. I plan my workouts the same way I plan for my clients, seeing myself as a client too. I schedule my sessions and ensure I stick to them. Additionally, I do a session with a trainer once a week, as it’s beneficial to have that extra guidance and motivation.

How do you balance your work/life schedule?

I often tell my clients to make time for themselves, their fitness, and their bodies, even if it’s just 30-40 minutes. Many times, the job of a trainer is to follow your own advice. I do my best to make time for my training, sleep, stress management, and personal life. It’s not easy as a fully booked trainer with back-to-back sessions from 8 am to 8 pm, but I prioritize booking time for myself just like a client would book time with me.

People get burnt out, what can someone do to keep themselves interested in going to the gym?

It’s easy to burn out if you’re doing too much too soon. Often, highly motivated people want to work with a trainer and end up burning out quickly by hitting the gym 5 to 7 times a week in the first few weeks. This is usually too much for your mind, nervous system, your body, and you don’t get enough time to recover.

It’s all about planning and tracking your progress. Knowing you’re going to achieve your goals makes it more enjoyable. It’s also important to choose exercises you actually like. If you pick exercises you hate, you’re more likely to skip them. Instead, let’s choose exercises you care about. They might not be

Fitness

easy, but they’ll be challenging and something you’re willing to stick with.

We start with a manageable routine, aiming for consistency rather than intensity. Begin with 2 to 3 times a week, not necessarily for an hour, but perhaps 30 to 40 minutes initially, and gradually progress to one hour. We’re trying to develop good habits and be realistic with ourselves. We want to finish each session feeling accomplished and rewarded.

What is a good way to shake things up when you hit that “plateau” where you’re not seeing either weight loss or muscle gain?

When you hit a plateau, it might be a good time to do a reassessment to identify your weak spots. For example, you might realize you’re eating too late, cheating on your dinners, or snacking on grapes every night before bed. Or perhaps your bench press isn’t progressing, and you’re trying to get stronger.

By doing an assessment, we can identify these weak spots and work on them to turn them into strengths. This might involve changing the program a bit and then reassessing it later on. Hitting a plateau isn’t a bad thing; it simply indicates where you are right now. From there, we can create a plan to keep you moving forward.

What is the worst thing someone can do to not see the results they are looking for?

The worst thing most people do is give up too soon. They become unmotivated and drop the ball. You have to understand that working out is a long process, and you’re building a lot in the background that you can’t see immediately. For example, some people lift weights for three weeks or a month and don’t see muscle gains. Building muscle takes time, but meanwhile, you’re improving your nervous system, bone density, ligaments, and tendons.

It takes time to see results, and often some results aren’t visible physically. Just because you can’t see changes doesn’t mean you’re not getting results. As humans, we tend to be impatient and want instant results. It’s important to talk to trainers who can explain how everything works. Sometimes, you might be doing too much, and your body isn’t recovering quickly enough. Consult a specialist to understand what’s happening and realize that sometimes it just takes more time than we think. It’s not the time to drop everything.

When you cook at home, what is your FAV healthy meal? Whatever my girlfriend Brieanna makes. When do you wake Up?

Honestly, this is something I am still working on. I work pretty long hours. Typically, I’ll wake up about 1.5 hours before my first client. Sleep is so valuable, so I try to get as much as possible 7-8 hours, and not fuss too much with unnecessary tasks in the AM.

I keep it simple, I shower, have breakfast, get ready and get out! What do you eat for dinner? My girlfriend is an incredible cook and also a Nutritionist, so dinner is my favorite. She’s in charge of what happens in the kitchen! Dinner is unusually late for us, again, because my hours are quite hectic, but she always puts something great together that is protein focused. I give her a lot of credit considering the challenge of it all. Having a healthy dinner will properly fuel me after a taxing day in the gym, but not TOO hearty to disrupt sleep. She’s really mastered it, and I love her for that. We’re usually having dinner after I get home at 9 or 9:30 PM. I love when she makes chicken. She roasts a full chicken with lots of vegetables that is literally mind blowing. The minute I get off the elevator, I can smell it! We always have a really big salad too that is packed with veggies. The go-to is red bell peppers, tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, avocado, spinach and micro greens.

Nickname?

Here, I’m known as “Stanny.” My nickname in Ukraine, however, is “Stas.” It’s a common nickname for Stanislav and to be honest I love it. When I came to America though, it was just easier introducing myself as Stan and all the fun variations that come with it.

Cheat day meal?

Ramen. I’m currently obsessed.

FAV thing about the Hamptons?

I love nature. Being able to escape the insanity of the city is always such a treat. Most of all, I love being able to sit in the yard or on the beach and just listen to the natural environment, put my feet directly onto the earth and rest. The social scene certainly isn’t too bad either! But when I’m in the Hamptons, I really just love to be outside and enjoy my time with friends.

FAV thing about NYC?

The opportunity of it all. Everything. The ability to show up, work hard and create. It always feels limitless to me. Professionally, it’s incredible, but personally it is also outrageously stimulating; It’s a dreamland. You can see great art, eat great food, achieve great things! I love being able to constantly explore this city.

Eating out, what foods do you love?

I love having pasta at a great Italian restaurant. I’m also in my red meat era. I’ve been truly enjoying a nice steak cooked black & blue when going out.

What is it like being a guest bartender at WWHL?

OMG! It is always a blast! I love bartending at WWHL. You always get to meet such interesting people, and it is such a positive, fun vibe.

The Health and Wellness Roundup You Didn’t Know You Needed

We psychologists realize there are studies out there that we have access to, and that you need to know about. So, instead of boring you with every little statistical detail and study methodology… have I already lost you? Anyway, here comes a round-up of the latest research you didn’t know you needed on many different aspects of health and wellness that can improve your life today.

Flexibility Is The Key To Longevity

A team of researchers studying the exercise regimens of athletes and regular exercisers made a fascinating discovery. While following over 3100 people over the course of twelve years they found that those who had better flexibility lived longer. Being aerobically fit is important, sure, but having good balance and great flexibility can predict mortalityespecially if you’re over 45. It was such a major finding, they published it in the Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports. So, if you’re asking after a workout, “should I stretch?” these folks would insist that stretching is the most important part of your workout if living longer is your goal.

Being Happy Is In Your Control

You can feel happier if you want to. There’s a relatively new area of study called, “positive psychology” and those folks have a great technique for helping you become happier. It’s called “savoring” and it’s highly effective. Savoring is when you train yourself to truly appreciate your positive experiences. You can learn to notice and intentionally engage in thoughts and actions that increase the intensity, duration, and appreciation of positive experiences. So, don’t cancel lunch with that good friend, instead go and savor every moment!

The Love Hierarchy According To Your Brain

For scientists love is more than a feeling, it’s neural activity in the brain. But what kind of love gets your brain lighting up the most? Apparently, it’s love for one’s children. That generated the most intense brain activity of all. A distant second was that your brain is really into romantic love. That means both when you’re falling in love as well as the love of your spouse or partner. A close third was not love for nature or a hobby or chocolate - it was the love of a pet. Your furry friend ranked right

up there with your significant other. An App To The Rescue Of Mental Health

When doctors at Weill Cornell Medicine made the connection that the mental health of young people was at risk and that they were not getting the help they needed, they decided to go where the 18-25 set already were - their phones. They created a mental health app called “Maya” that uses one of the most effective therapies -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT -to treat anxiety, and studies have found that it’s working! While Maya is not a replacement for seeking professional help, it teaches strategies based in CBT that give young people actions they can take to help their own mental health. The app teaches skills and gives real-time feedback that can help reduce stress and the negative thoughts associated with anxiety.

Stop Making Fun Of Vegetarians Who Eat Fish

You know those people who call themselves vegetarian but they eat fish, so everyone is like, “You’re not a vegetarian”? Welp, the jokes on you! They are living longer than everyone else. The Pescovegetarian diet has been found to reduce your risk of dying early by 18%, according to a new study. In case you’re doubting this study, it was a biggie. Scientists analyzed the data of over 88,000 subjects and found this diet to be the healthiest. It makes sense when you consider every study about diet these days is The Mediterranean Diet, which is basically Pesco-vegetarian.

Your Financial Hygiene Is Just As Important As Your Personal Hygiene

Build a better relationship with money and you’ll build better mental health. Advice about money often ignores the psychological factors associated with saving and spending but it’s those factors that actually determine if you’ll save or spend and if you’ll feel guilty about doing either one of those. For some people money is symbolic of caring. For example, siblings who see a parent give more cash to one over the other might interpret that as the parent loving that sibling more. “Lifestyle Creep” is another money concern. It’s when you get a raise, so you start spending more on luxuries. Instead, when you get a raise, experts say you should actually start saving more.

New Recommendations For Depression That May Surprise You Depressed more often than you’d like to be? Researchers found there are six things

in our world that are linked to feeling sad. In no particular order they are tobacco, alcohol, ultra-processed foods, gambling, social media, and air pollution. Which is why getting off your phone and going for a walk in nature is the new recommendation from therapists and researchers. There’s a great deal of study that shows how being out in nature (and specifically near water) has a calming effect and can reduce feelings of depression almost instantly.

Kids

Are Seeing Fewer Ads About Foods That Are Bad For Them

Here’s an odd one. The food and beverage industry had pledged to stop advertising unhealthy food and sugary drinks during children’s TV shows. So, children’s exposure to food and drink ads during their viewing time has dropped substantially. Not to be a Debby Downer but according to research from the University of Illinois Chicago, children under 12 are probably not watching as much television. So, of course they aren’t seeing those ads. What we really need is a study that delves into the type of content of the commercials being pushed at them while on YouTube or wherever they get their entertainment from.

There’s A Specific Time You Know Your Day Has Gone To Hell…According To Research

At what point do you know your day has been ruined? According to a new survey –it’s 8:36 AM. With 71% of those surveyed saying how they slept is the biggest predictor of how their day will go. In fact, the top five happenings that you know you’re about to have a bad day are: Waking up feeling sick, if you slept poorly, waking up with a headache, losing your keys and forgetting your phone at home.

Embracing Crystals for Compassion

For many the last weeks of summer can trigger melancholy feelings. As beach outings, picnics, barbeques and other joyful summer rituals start winding down, the focus on back-to-school and full work agendas loom large on the horizon. We may think of summer fun as slipping away however it is also a perfect time to deepen our compassion. Why not engage in a practice of kindness, and empathy for self and others as we slip into autumn?

Crystals are among the many precious gifts of Mother Earth and can be used in meditation to support our practice of compassion. The stones I especially recommend are Rose Quartz, Amazonite, and Rhodocrosite.

Rose Quartz nurtures the energy of love, joy, emotional healing and gentleness, and is considered one of the most important stones of our time according to Naisha Ahsian, co-author of The Book of Stones, Who They are and What They Teach. “It stimulates and opens the heart chakra, clears the emotional body, and assists in the integration and resolution of old emotional programs,” she states. Each of these qualities help clear the way for deeper compassion that we can cultivate for ourselves as well as for others.

advises “When someone doesn’t know what they want, or what they feel, Amazonite can assist them in gaining clarity. For those who are unclear about what they have to offer the world, Amazonite can gently point them toward their gifts and knowledge.“ Knowing thyself is at the heart of selfcompassion.

Like Rose Quartz, Rhodocrosite vibrationally supports emotional healing. It is also a stone of self-love and compassion. Co-author Ahsian says, “Rhodocrosite emanates one of the most tender and loving energies of any stone. It soothes the heart and comforts the soul, helping one claim one’s rightful powers and be everything one was meant to be. It vibrates to the frequencies of inner peace and self-forgiveness, allowing one to fully blossom.” When one cultivates this inner peace, it is so much easier to practice compassion.

Amazonite, the luscious blue stone is a stone of truth, communication, and harmony. For both self and for others, the practice of compassion is enhanced by connecting with our truth, our inner harmony and our ability to effectively communicate. In times of challenge, we can fall out of touch with our own truth. Ahsian

At our wellness company, OneFirelight.com, compassion is at the heart of all we do. Our Director of Wellness Research and Strategy, Dr. Anita Underwood, is an organizational psychologist and educator, and she offers a very powerful way to think about compassion: “Being compassionate means you are emotionally free to surrender to your soul’s calling to help alleviate suffering in others, without judgment.” May these stones of compassion guide you on this path. Kathryn Leary is an entrepreneur, marketing professional, writer and experienced yoga and meditation instructor with over 20 years of dedication to the practice. Benefits of Exercise

What are the actual benefits of exercise?

Research has shown that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life.

1. Exercise improves mood: Physical activity can stimulate certain brain chemicals that can help you feel more relaxed, less anxious and happier.

2. Exercise improves sleep: Regular physical activity can help you fall asleep and get better sleep.

3. Exercise helps with weight management: Regular exercise can help increase your metabolic rate which in turn helps burn calories.

4. Exercise can help protect against many chronic diseases: Regular physical activity can lower blood pressure and cholesterol and reduce your risk for diabetes.

5. Exercise can help your sex life: Regular physical activity may enhance arousal for women and help men with erectile dysfunction.

6. Exercise can help with your brain and memory: Exercise increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain. It can also increase chemicals in the brain, helping to produce new blood vessels and increase the overall health of new brain cells.

7. Exercise can boost energy: Exercise helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently and sends nutrients and oxygen to your tissues. This will lead to more energy doing your daily activities.

GOLFING A-ROUND WITH ANN LIGUORI

Q. Tell us about your book: Life On The Green.

A. ‘Life on the Green, Lessons and Wisdom from Legends of Golf,’ (Hatherleigh Press) feature my recent conversations with 12 golf legends, 6 men, 6 women, sharing what they learned from their iconic golf careers that they use in their day-to-day lives. Each chapter features a Hall of Famer sharing invaluable wisdom that transcends golf, in addition to stories they reveal about their lives and success.

Q. What interview, piece of advice or part of the book is your favorite and why?

A. There are so many great stories and pearls of wisdom in the book, it’s difficult to choose only one. The great Bernhard Langer, the winningest golfer on the PGA Champions Tour (over age 50 Tour), reveals how poverty-stricken he and his family were when he was growing up in Germany; how his father jumped off a train and escaped while being taken to a Siberian Prison Camp during WWII, while being shot at; and how Bernhard got his start in golf. He started caddying when he was 7 years old, so he could bring home a few coins to his family! He started teaching golf at the age of 15 and turned pro soon afterward. His story

is one of overcoming great hardship to accomplish his dreams, and at 66 years of age, he is still going strong.

Q. What was the most enjoyable interview you’ve conducted?

A. I’ve interviewed everyone from Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Wilt Chamberland and Hank Aaron, to name a few. Mickey Mantle was the first guest on my award-winning ‘Sports Interview’ cable show that aired for 17 seasons, starting in 1989. We did the interview at Mickey Mantle’s, his restaurant on Central Park South in Manhattan in the fall of 1989. Mickey was very open and honest and got teary-eyed when he talked about his friendship with Roger Maris and his son’s battle with Hotchkin’s Disease.

Q. What do you love about, to do, and where to eat in the Hamptons?

A. I love its natural beauty and playing at some of the best courses in America such as Friar’s Head, Maidstone, Shinnecock, National, Southampton, Westhampton Country Club, Atlantic, Sebonack and The Bridge, to name a few. As for eating out, The American Hotel in Sag Harbor, Flora in Westhampton Beach, the back patio restaurant at Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays, the restaurants at The Pridwin Hotel and Rams Head Inn on Shelter Island are some of my favorites.

Q. What’s your life’s motto and what advice can you give aspiring golfers/athletes?

A. My life motto is similar to the Amy Alcott chapter in my book titled, ‘Be the Captain of your own ship.’ I also subscribe to ‘Be in charge of your own destiny.’ along with ‘Trust your own instincts’ and ‘Live every day like it’s your last.’ I have a sign near my door at my Florida home that reads, ‘You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.’ As for advice for aspiring golfers and athletes, it’s best to read my, ‘Life on the Green, Lessons and Wisdom from Legends of Golf.’ You’ll learn so much that you can apply to your own life and gain wisdom that lasts a lifetime!

Hamptons Storyboard had the honor to interview pugilist, Michael Spinks. He was the undisputed Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight title holder throughout most of the 1980’s. He’s a 2X National Golden Glove Champion in addition to being the Middleweight Gold Medal winner for the United States at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada.

We sat down with Michael to get to know him better.

How did you get into boxing?

My brother Leon Spinks. The former Cruiserweight and Heavyweight boxing Champion in addition to the Light Heavyweight U.S.A. Olympic Gold Medal winner at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, got me involved in boxing. I was 11 and he was 14. Explain the experience of being in and winning a gold medal in the 1976 Olympics.

It felt good winning the gold medal, especially with Leon. It was nice winning with my brother there. Please share a memorable experience from your boxing career.

It was how I learned to box and who taught me. That guy was Jim Merrill and all the guys I learned how to box with, the Westbrook brothers. What do you most remember about your 1988 bout with Mike Tyson?

I remember how hard he was hitting me. How do you feel boxing has changed throughout the years?

The guys of yesterday were better than the guys of today. You had a lot stiffer competition. How did you get the nickname “Spinks The Jinx?”

My promoter Butch Lewis gave it to me.

To get to know you a little better, let’s play “What Is Your Favorite?”

Color? Black, white and red. Movie? Ali. Food? Chicken. Number? 7. Piece of boxing memorabilia? Boxing gloves.

Way to describe yourself?Pretty tough boxer. Superhero you’d be? Superman, because he kicks butt.

Word of advice for future boxers? Hands up, chin down.

Michael is a 1994 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee and can be seen out and about in the Hamptons and NYC.

NEW YORK SWIM WEEK TRANSFORMS THE CONCRETE JUNGLE INTO A SWIMSUIT PARADISE

Just when I thought New York could not get any hotter, the 4th year of New York Swim Week took over the LifeTime sky pool deck in the heart of Manhattan with a flare all its own. Models, each more beautiful than the last, walked in day and night shows. Twenty-five international designers showcased their latest collections to the 1000+ guests. The pulsating soundtrack echoed, the drinks flowed freely and the energy was electric. It was a spectacle to behold. The models owned the runway with a confidence that was both sexy and intimidating. In the day shows, the models seemed

This unique event turned the spotlight onto a critical issue: animal rescue and welfare. Each strut down the runway by these adorable dogs, adorned in their favorite outfits, underscored a pressing narrative-the necessity of fostering and finding loving homes for ALL pets in need. This fusion of fashion and animal welfare reinforced a crucial message: the fashion industry and ALL industries for that matter, have a significant role to play in promoting animal rescue.

Starting this show off on the right foot/ paw was a beautiful little girl named Noah. Following that were magazine owners, designers, socialites, artists, a huge dog“Rolo,” a little dog-“Lil Bit”, dogs with three legs-“Cannoli” and many others. The audience had no idea what to expect. The closer of the show was bodyguard to the stars, the “Fancy Giant”. Watching a 7’1, 450lb teddy bear carrying Vixey-a 2 ¼ lb Yorkie, was a genuine crowd pleaser. This event proved that compassion is truly the greatest accessory.

Entertainment included Inna-the-Artist who brilliantly sketched 2 & 4 legged muses alike. Celebrity magician Josh Pele mesmerized the crowd as they indulged on to-die-for chocolates by 2Bites. It was sponsored by Petsmart, Barkbox, Ecobar & Marcy’s Pet Kitchen. Chance’s eclectic and

with its aquatic allure and cutting-edge swimwear designs. Surrounded by skyscrapers, taxis and naysayers, NYSW founder, Evita Scoccia, single handedly built NYSW into what it is today, an international destination for swimsuit designers to present their latest collections. The

audience of celebrities, fashion & entertainment industry insiders along with fellow models, did not blink as the beauty of mind, body, soul and fabric mesmerized the crowd. With literally hundreds of media in attendance NYSW, in just a few short years, has become a threat to Miami’s swim week.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, NYSW was about more than swimsuits, it was about celebrating diversity, inclusivity and the power of the human form. For one magical day, New York Swim Week transformed the city that never sleeps into a tropical oasis for many.

As the party slowly came to a close, it was clear that the magic of NYSW 2024 would linger long after the last bikini had been packed away. @ny.swimweek

Mind, Body and Soul

Fashion For Life

In 2018, having just graduated high-school and beauty school, I ventured off into the working world and began what I thought would be my life-long career in the world of beauty. Unfortunately, after a while I realized that it was not my thing. I left my salon job and was kind of lost, career wise, until I walked into a Michael Kors store, and I had the best experience ever. The associate and I were talking for a while, and one thing led to another, and I was offered a seasonal position there for the holidays. My life has forever changed since I’ve started working for Michael Kors. A sales position was something very new to me. I was never considered an extrovert. If anything, I was shy and quiet and kept to myself. I developed a genuine love and passion not only for the company, but also for the clients. I walk into work every day excited and intrigued. “What’s the latest trend? What are people going to be asking for? What events are going on? Who’s getting married?” I love styling each person that walks through the door. God truly blessed me with the opportunity to work with people who have helped guide me both in my career and life. Michael Kors makes me excited to wake up every day and live my life. Since my first exhilarating day here at MK I knew that I wanted

to climb the corporate ladder. Now at 24 years old, I don’t hesitate when people ask me, “what do you want to do when you’re older?” or “what’s your dream job?” I am doing it! All I want out of my career now is to exceed, learn and grow from my peers. Oh, and I’d love to meet Michael himself one day.

As of now, as a part time sales supervisor, I get to experience the inner workings of what makes Michael Kors, Michael Kors. I am truly blessed to be working here with an amazing team alongside my fellow managers Bella, Monica, Michael and my original store manager Gabriella in addition to working with our associates Wendy and Nina. Everyone has their own unique way of coaching, selling and being a friend. I’m very thankful for all of them, out of all of this, I’m especially thankful for my mom! She knows how much this company means to me. She’s my rock and supports everything I chose to do with my career.

As we transition from Summer to Fall/Winter I’m excited to see that denims and knitted sweaters along with chunky boots and platforms are leading the way into the new season. Come visit us at the Michael Kors store in the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington, NY. We’d love to style you the Michael Kors way!!!

From when you were a little girl, you and your sister used to love to go to the mall. It wasn’t the stores, or the shopping, it was the commotion. The activity, the crowds, the sounds. All that stimulus did not intimidate you, or upset you, it excited you. You couldn’t get enough. So, whenever the opportunity arose for you to set out on your own to explore this cyclone of activity, you did. The problem was you lost yourself in the hunt, never looking back to find me. You were excited and curious about this new world, unaware and blissfully blind to its dangers, only seeing its boundlessness, its beauty, its color, and its unlimited potential. One particular night at the mall, when you were about 2, I decided to see how far you would wander before becoming uneasy and looked or came back. You didn’t. I put you down and you hit the ground running, literally. If that mall was 10 miles long, you would have run 10 miles. However, the mall was shaped like a T, so in the middle there was a crossroad. If I let you make the turn I would have lost sight of you, and who knows what was there. I chased after you and scooped you up, as you squealed and laughed. I laughed too, but was a bit concerned as I thought, “This damn kid is fearless! How am I going to keep her safe?” I remember it like it was yesterday, because it was, wasn’t it?

Sixteen years later (or is it sixteen minutes?) We stand at a new intersection. The road we traveled to get here had some twists and turns, ups and downs, as well as tons and tons of joy, laughter and love. While we traveled you blossomed into a beautiful, intelligent, caring, strong, and resilient young woman. Truth be told, you were always those things, except now you are just taller. Not much taller, but you have your ancestors to blame for that, and so do I. Now you are about to embark on the most fascinating, exciting,

and enriching time of your life!! The things you learn, both in and out of the classroom, you will take with you forever. Some of the people you meet will be the friends you will have for the rest of your life. The experiences you have will be the stories you tell your children, around the kitchen table, 35 years from now, just as I share my stories with you and your sister. It is truly INCREDIBLE.

You are on the precipice of making that turn out of my sight, except now you are ready!! You know to be wary of dangers and how to avoid hazards. However, never forget the world’s boundlessness, beauty, color and its unlimited potential, because you are boundless, and beautiful and unlimited. If I’m being completely honest, I still want to run after you, and carry you home laughing. But if I run into your class, I might embarrass you, and get arrested in the process. So, know that I am always just around the corner cheering your every step, prepared to help you with directions, and always ready to scoop you up and keep you safe if ever needed.

Just as you did in that mall all those seconds ago; explore, be brave, be curious, be unintimidated, be silly and every other seemingly cliche’ thing that Dora and Laurie Berkner told you to do. The world and everything in it are yours, and always will be. I love you more than you can possibly imagine. Too much. (No such thing).

- Dad.

The Benefits of Physical Therapy for Multiple Conditions

PHYSICAL THERAPY (PT) is a key component in treating and rehabilitating a variety of conditions, including musculoskeletal problems, injuries, post-surgical recovery, and neurological disorders. It plays a crucial role in restoring mobility, reducing pain, and improving overall quality of life.

MUSCULOSKELETAL PROBLEMS AND INJURIES

Musculoskeletal issues like back pain, arthritis and sports injuries can significantly impact daily life. Physical therapy offers tailored treatments that:

• Alleviate pain: Techniques such as massage, manual therapy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation help reduce pain.

• Enhance strength and flexibility: Specific exercises restore movement and prevent future injuries.

• Accelerate recovery: Addressing underlying issues like muscle imbalances leads to faster healing.

POST-SURGERY REHABILITATION

After surgeries like joint replacements or ligament repairs, physical therapy is essential for:

• Restoring movement: Hands on treatment and guided exercises help patients regain their range of motion and strength.

• Preventing complications: Early mobilization minimizes the risk of issues like blood clots and joint stiffness.

• Improving outcomes: A structured PT program supports a quicker and more successful recovery.

GERIATRIC PATIENTS

For older adults, physical therapy offers benefits such as:

• Fall prevention: Balance and strength exercises reduce the risk of falls, a common issue among the elderly.

• Managing chronic conditions: PT helps control conditions like arthritis and osteoporosis, improving mobility and reducing pain.

• Maintaining independence: Tailored exercises help older adults perform daily activities more easily.

NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS

Physical therapy is also critical for neurological conditions like stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. It helps by:

• Improving motor function: PT aids in regaining and maintaining coordination and control.

• Enhancing mobility: Targeted exercises, hands on treatment, and assistive devices improve the ability to move independently.

• Supporting recovery: In stroke patients, PT encourages the brain to form new connections, aiding in recovery.

We at TOTAL PHYSICAL THERAPY proudly offer six highly skilled offices providing all the physical therapy services you may need. Our six owner operated locations include: Babylon (631) 669-0333, Massapequa (516) 798-3789, North Massapequa (516) 798-3789, East Meadow (516) 464-2475, Syosset (516) 622-9797, and Deer Park (631) 242-4500.
