The summer consists of many fun-filled events and parties.
In this edition of ‘Spillin’ with VAL,’ you’ll get a sense of the standout soirées that people are still buzzing about and that I had the opportunity to attend. My experiences as ‘VAL about Town,” are just getting started and I am thrilled to be able to share them with you!
The Alice + Olivia Pride Party hosted by the brand’s CEO Stacey Bendet was filled with love, rainbow and sparkle aesthetics as well as a performance by Paris Hilton with a production value of epic proportions.
Taking place inside New York City’s Terminal 5, the designer’s besties, aka Paris and Nicky Hilton, were on hand to celebrate the brand and pride month.
Paris was sensational and anyone and everyone who is in the fashion industry was there.
Guests enjoyed food from popular establishments like Serafina and Shake Shack. My mom happened to be in town so we got to enjoy the concert together as well as the additional brand activations that consisted of us decorating our own pink metallic fanny packs and a gifting lounge with Paris and Alice + Olivia Merch!
Maxim Celebrates Cover Girl Camille Kostek at T-Squared Social in Midtown East. The May/June 2024 Maxim Cover Star-Model and TV Host Camille Kostek was surrounded by her family and loved ones in celebration of her gracing the Maxim Cover.
Boyfriend Rob Gronkowski, that we all love to call Gronk, was also in attendance supporting his number one gal. The party held at Justin Timberlake and Tiger Woods’ sports bar T-Squared Social was the perfect venue with sports simulators that guests enjoyed, including Gronk. Not just limited to golf...Gronk kicked the football, I kicked the soccer ball and my bestie Daniel LaGrua threw a baseball. This place transports you back to your youth and is such an elevated establishment. Event producers Scott Buccheit and Naim Delbridge put together the perfect evening along with Jessica Athanasiou-Piork who produces the Maxim covers. The party was filled with star power including: My Mom, Socialite/Philanthropist Gillian Hearst and Comedian Desus Nice.
Grey/Ven CEO Scott Weissman, Luxury Conceriege Expert Rose Thorn and yours truly teamed up to toast summer at his private residence in East Hampton
On Sunday July 21st tastemakers, celebrities, media, philanthropists, models, influencers and executives all came together to enjoy a beautiful sushi brunch at the CEO of Grey/Ven, Scott Weissman’s home in East Hampton. Weissman, Luxury Concierge Expert Rose Thorn and myself assembled a group of friends and Hamptonites to celebrate fashion, positive energy and a beautiful day in The Hamptons. Kaori Sushi Express was on hand making delicious rolls and sashimi for guests who enjoyed the sit-down affair while sipping on Veuve Clicquot. Lots of party goers enjoyed the picturesque backyard while taking tons of pictures for their Instagram. There wasn’t an empty seat in the house on this sun-filled afternoon!

Welcome to the Wonderful World of William Quigley, an East End artist who has traveled the world from New York to Los Angeles to South America, Mallorca, India, Italy and all points in between. He’s worked with and/or had his art shown side-by-side with artists Andy Warhol, De Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Jean Michel Basquiat, Joan Mitchell and many others.
His reach across the art genre knows no boundaries. From abstract works, to expressionist, to cartoons, NFT’s, Film/TV sets, to him even working with the only indie band (Dispatch) to sell out Madison Square Garden an astonishing 7x. Quigley is a Renaissance man who keeps his finger on the pulse of all things art. So much so that his art is collected by the Andy Warhol Foundation, William Jefferson Clinton Library Center, Electric Lady Studios, the Muhammed Ali Foundation, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Shaquille O’Neal and Mick Jager, to name a few.
William has long dedicated a portion of his career to multiple charitable causes. Be it education in urban areas, veterans, health or any other cause that he feels he can help. One cause that is near and dear to his heart is the annual Artists & Writers charity softball game. Now in its 76th year the game continues to support, for 30+ years, those who help others. This year’s supported charities are: East End Hospice, Phoenix House, The Retreat and the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center.
Most of this is done under his “Skrapper” label, whose goal is to work with others who want to be a part of a movement that raises awareness for those in need.

‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game, Take Me Out with the Crowd’, there’s no better ball game to go out with the crowd than the highly anticipated, fun filled and star-studded Artists and Writers Charity Softball Game played every August (August 17, 2024 with batting practice @ 12:30 pm and the first pitch @ 2 pm) at Herrick Park in East Hampton. Going on its 76th year, this humble game all started in 1948 in the front yard of artist Wilfrid Zogbaum. Back then East Hampton, and especially Springs, offered inexpensive large studios that were brightly lit and very conducive to an artists’ craft. Artists Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning, Philip Pavia, Jackson Pollock and Joan Mitchell were some of the first to play the game. Since then, they’ve been followed by such luminaries as Leif Hope-he loves to slip in a turnip ‘ball’ and pitch it to an unsuspecting batter, Chevy Chase, Alan Alda, Christie Brinkley, Christopher Reeve, Paul Simon, Dr. Ruth, Bianca Jagger, James Lipton, Joan Mitchell, Mr. G., Mike Lupica, Russell Blue, Chris Wragge, Joe Torre, Lori Singer, Tommy Clohessy, Carl Bernstein, Joseph Palmisano-guest announcer, Joseph Palmisano III-batboy, and President Bill Clinton who traditionally throws out the first pitch. Putting this on year after year is a herculean effort, an effort led by the game’s President-David Brandman. Many people donate their time to ensure that the event is a success and that includes David and his family. His family records the game for re-broadcast and of course posterity. David shared what’s
up for this year.
‘It’s one of the biggest and best events that you can attend out east. There’s something for everyone; a food court, raffles, interactive kid activities, a new ballfield and scoreboard, plenty of seating and due to its’ intimate setting, plenty of opportunities to mingle, take selfies and get an autograph or two from the celebs who come out and play for a good cause.
‘Over the years, the game has raised not only money but, it has brought awareness to many of the east end’s charitable organizations,’ says David. This year they’re playing for East End Hospice, The Retreat, Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center and Phoenix HouseWainscott. David is excited for the crowds and the stars
who make this game what it is. He’s looking forward to continuing this storied tradition for years to come.

We walked the runway with international model Shani Atar and not only did we walk the walk, we talked the talked.
Shani Atar grew up in Denmark where she played professional basketball, until her godmother tapped her to be the face of a clothing line she was launching. Shani was literally juggling her basketball life and modeling life when she unexpectedly broke her foot. Luckily for her, her modeling was noticed by a modeling agency who ultimately signed her and as they say, the rest is history.
Shani moved to Miami where her modeling career really took off. She’s been there now 5 years lighting up the runways. She loves what she does and is appreciative of every moment that she can do it. She likens modeling to being that of an athlete. There are many similarities between the two professions. Like an athlete, she always needs to train and be prepared. She never knows when the opportunity to hit up another runway will come her way. She constantly trains her body, mind and soul so that she’s ready at a moment’s notice to hit the runway. She can’t take a day off from her physical and beauty routines. She needs to be ready for when the ‘coach calls her in.”
Shani believes that you always need to be prepared for anything. That’s why she brings her ‘goodie’ bag with her to jobs. It contains snacks, shoes, clothing, beauty products and anything else that she needs to make that job successful. One of her beauty secrets is to always use a heat protection spray on her hair as well as to thoroughly wash and condition her hair after every job, no matter how late she gets home.
By taking care of herself, she’s able to put her best foot forward for her client.
We wanted to get to know how her day shapes up and who is Shani Atar? Shani gets up at 7 am, she makes herself avocado toast with eggs and coffee and heads to the gym at 9 am. While there, depending on the day, she’ll do Pilates, weight training or aerobics to help keep herself energized and in shape both physically and mentally.
As for the remainder of the day, she plays it by ear. Not everyday is the same. Some days she’s modeling, others she’s creating social content while other days she’s just hanging out, enjoying life with her family and friends. As the evening rolls around, she makes it a point to make a home cooked meal of chicken or fish, some veggies and quinoa.
As for bedtime, she prepares for a peaceful night’s sleep by drinking some caffein free tea, either a chamomile or a ginger/ turmeric tea.
To get to know her a little better, I asked her a few fun questions.
Fav meal to cook: Salmon with veggies.
Dream vacay: Japan.
Live in Miami or NYC: Miami. Sandals or heels? Sandals. Fast food or home cooked? Home cooked.
Fav sport besides basketball: European handball.
Fav color: Light blue.
Dream modeling job: To walk for one of the major fashion houses like Chanel.
Fav thing to do at home: Entertain and cook for family and friends.
If you were not a model or playing pro basketball, what would you like to do: I’d like to own a sports endorsement
agency.
What gets you through Fashion Week: My family and friends along with the camaraderie of the fellow models. We all try to support and uplift each other.
Fav music: Drake, 50 Cent, Eminem, Beyonce, Lana Del Rey and Ariana Grande.
Advice: Enjoy and embrace what you do. No days are the same, you need to go with the flow and take each day as it comes.

Being such a foodie myself, I was excited to catch up with food influencer monday2sundae-Christina Garbarino. Social media and food influencers are driving the food trends in restaurants with the longest cheese pull, charcuterie boards, butter boards and sweet treats that not only look beautiful but are over the top delicious. Christina chats the ins and outs of what goes into being a food influencer, from how often she indulges in yummy food, to what Long Island town has the best food, to how many pics are needed to get that perfect IG shot.
Q. How did you get started?
A. Back in 2019 I went to Vienna, Austria. I love looking at menus and checking the reviews on Yelp before I go out. I always had food pics on my phone so my family and friends encouraged me to do a food page.
Q. What turns a good restaurant into an amazing restaurant?
A. When staff is attentive, the dining experience becomes very memorable for me. I don’t like being left at a table and have to flag down the waiter to get their attention. I love when the waiter recommends dishes to try. I also love consistency. Consistency goes a long way in my dining experience.
Q. What was your first restaurant post?
A. Plant Wise Eatery, in Dix Hills. They reached out to me. It was my first collab.
Q. Who is your target audience?
A. Anyone, ages 20-40’s, looking for a new restaurant to go to. I’m there for the person who is always looking on Yelp for a new place to try.
Q. How often do you eat out?
A. At least twice a week.
Q. How do you get your leads?
A. Restaurants reach out to me on Instagram.
Q. How often do you cook at home?
A. I cook as often as I can.
Q. How long does it take to get that perfect IG pic?
A. It takes two to three minutes. Usually, the first shot is the best one.
Q. What is your inspirational source?
A. I was always intrigued with getting the perfect shot, be it food, a person or really anything in general. I always like taking pictures and enjoy looking back at that time.
Q. What do your friends and family think about your life as an influencer?
A. They think it’s cool. It’s fun going out to brunch and dinner with them. They love the experience and they think it is the coolest thing ever. I showed them all how to do the iconic cheese pull, they really enjoy it.
Q. What do you enjoy more? Breakfast, lunch or dinner?
A. I enjoy dinner more.
Q. Coffee or cappuccino?
A. Coffee.
Q. Favorite pizza topping?
A. Pepperoni.
Q. What is your food bucket list?
A. Carbone and 4 Charles in NYC. Reservations are so insane to get.
Q. What wouldn’t you try at a restaurant?
A. I draw the line at eating a bug. But I am open to anything.
Q. What food could you not live without?
A. Pasta.
Q. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
A. Besides pasta, avocado chicken salad at La Bottega located in East Meadow and Merrick.
Q. What town on Long Island has the best food?
A. Garden City and Huntington.
Q. Best cheese pull on Long Island?
A. Gino’s in Ronkonkoma.
Q. Best sauce on Long Island?
A. Cara Mia in Seaford. I love a good vodka sauce and pesto sauce.
Q. Best Pizza on Long Island?
A. Mike’s Underground Pizza located in Amityville.
Q. Fav restaurant of all time?
A. Insignia Prime Steak & Sushi located in Smithtown.
Q. Fav restaurant on the East End?
A. Harvest on Fort Pond located in Montauk.
Q. Fav thing about the East End?
A. I love how carefree and chill it is out there. I love to go there at the end of the week to relax and experience some Summer fun.
Looking for a new restaurant to enjoy, follow @monday2sundae on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. Christina posts daily to her IG. She’s also a photographer and does social media management. It’s EAT TIME!!! Enjoy!!!

TOP TEN WORST LEFT TURNS IN THE HAMPTONS
I’m Joe Piccininni, a real estate broker with Compass and a full-time resident of Southampton Village. The season is here, and families are flocking to one of the world’s top resort destinations-The Hamptons.
Amid the celebrity buzz, trendy restaurants, and wannabe TikTokers, one thing gets overlooked: the dreaded left turns we face every day. Here are my top ten worst left turns that make driving in this beautiful place a real headache:
10. COMING FROM THE AGAWAM PARKING LOT onto Jobs Lane.
9. THE TURN FROM THE BUELL LANE EXTENSION onto Montauk Highway, East Hampton
This event is nothing short of spectacular. With exquisite food, once in a lifetime auctioned experiences, fine art, and a musical performance by Ludacris, the opportunity to be entertained while contributing to a worthwhile cause is second to none.
To purchase tickets and/or donate to the cause, go to their website: Thegreenvision.org
Follow them on IG @Footprintoflifegala

8. THE ONE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF BUELL LANE EXT. onto Montauk Highway, East Hampton (although I think they’ve decided to close this one off temporarily…)
7. TOWNLINE ROAD ONTO MONTAUK HIGHWAY
6. DAVID WHITES LANE TO 27. (Let’s put an arrow here!)
5. OLD MILL RD ONTO MTK HIGHWAY IN WATER MILL (use of the median is a non-negotiable)
4. THE COMING OUT OF THE POST OFFICE onto North Sea Road (if Schmitts were still around this would be higher on the list)
3. TUCKAHOE LANE ONTO CR 39.
2. MECOX LANE ONTO MTK HIGHWAY
1. HILLS STATION RD TO 39 (how is this even allowed?)
Be safe out there, and feel free to submit your worst left turns to me at joe@pickjoe.com Joe Piccininni

ANALOGY
We’ve all heard the cliche baseball metaphors for sex. Even in high school (or earlier) with your ride or die asking, “Did you get to first base?”
Baseball metaphors for any sexual contact, real or insinuated, have been a big part of pop culture as well. The classic Meat Loaf song “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” is not subtle. It describes a young couple going for it with a voiceover commentary from an actual baseball game, “He’s rounding first and really turning it on now, he’s not letting up at all, he’s gonna try for second.”
In Billy Joel’s “Zanzibar” he compares himself to Pete Rose “trying just to get to second base.” In Brad Paisley’s 2007 song “Online” he sings about having never been to second base with a woman. Generally, it’s men gauging how far a woman will allow him to go. As if women aren’t also interested in sex but rather it’s a prize they possess for a young man to try to win –where she loses when he does.
In the old trope, first base is kissing, second is touching boobs, third is a woman letting him touch her “down there” and a home run is when he somehow coerces her into “going all the way” having classic, heterosexual PIV (penis in vagina) sex. Yawn. It’s such an antiquated analogy and it needs a glow up.
The entire thing reeks of a nonconsensual, sexist, goal-oriented singular activity rather than a pleasure oriented experience for both. Maybe you hit a home run physically, but emotionally, you’re still on first base.
GEN Z HAS FLIPPED THE SCRIPT
A recent Tinder poll found that 80% of Gen Zer’s (18–25) say their self-care is their top priority when dating or being in a sexual relationship. 79% want their partners to prioritize emotional self-care too. We’re talking about psychological self-care. Knowingly avoiding any sort of toxic relationship. Gen Z is totally into it. They’re also more likely to find a match attractive if they’re open to working on their mental health. Caring about your own well-being has become a huge aphrodisiac. Then there are other options more in the gray areas of life. A “situationship,” “sneaky link,” or “the talking stage” are all Gen Z terms that sort of embody how people feel about the bases and how four don’t quite cut it. These important hookup terms refer to anything from
secretly meeting up with someone you’re romantically interested in, to having consensual sex but not broadcasting it over a stadium loudspeaker for the entire crowd to hear.
These attitudes also reflect awareness about female pleasure. It’s no longer shameful for women to ask for what they want while being clear about what they don’t want. This mindset has truly shaped the new bases. Choosing a situationship or a sneaky link is a way to feel someone out while not ignoring that you are a sexual being with needs and desires that you deserve to have fulfilled. All while enjoying each other consensually and safely while also taking your time to see if you even want to round third.
Some people have sex on the first date, while others wait until they’re in a committed relationship. For those, sex is first base and maybe meeting the family is a home run. The idea that sex has to happen on a time schedule, by “base” is ridiculous and an old way of thinking. The new bases are about the entire team, not the individual player. There’s no “i” in sex. First Base: Communication and Consent
Clear and open communication gets you on first base. It’s crucial, and not just “sure” but an enthusiastic “sure, let’s hit the field!” consent. In this scenario, everyone has enthusiastically agreed to any and all sexual activity. This includes discussing boundaries, preferences, kinks (if any) and ensuring everyone feels comfortable and respected.
Second Base: Protect Your Mental Health
Listen, we all make bad choices. We think someone is into us emotionally, and not just sexually, so we go for it impulsively. Like we said already, prioritizing your mental health when getting jiggy with it is key and that’s second base. Setting healthy boundaries by communicating them openly. Saying, “I’m not looking for anything serious” or “I only do relationships,” and then not manipulating the other person psychologically and accepting their terms. It’s like arguing with the umpire, you’re gonna get thrown out of the game and nobody wants that.
Third Base: The Sexual Act Redux What is sex anyway? Here’s what it isn’t: not the big deal it once was. It’s not a home run, it’s just sex. For some people oral sex is sex, for others sex can be mutual masturbation or it can involve
real intimacy. The definition varies from person-to-person and team-to-team.
When the baseball-sex analogy started after World War II, “out of wedlock” pregnancies and STI’s were seen as shameful. Women didn’t have sexual agency (at least publicly) and there were expectations as to what so-called “good girls” did and didn’t do. That has all evolved. Women are entitled to and ask for what they want, virginity is a social construct and there is so much more to a healthy bond than just sex. Everyone’s a free agent now.
HOME RUN: Digital and Emotional Boundaries
Are we Instagram official? That’s the new “going all the way.” Anyone can have sex at any time, consensually, but once you’re on the ‘gram’, or you’re out on social media you’re telling the world what’s up. This also includes digital trust. Things get complicated with digital interactions (like sexting) which for some people are part of a healthy sexual relationship.
That’s why you need to make sure you’re also practicing safe sext. Choose secure and encrypted messaging apps that offer end-to-end encryption, don’t use any shared devices and try not to save anything too explicit. Consider using selfdestructing messages or just don’t include identifiable information such as your face, location, or any personal details.
The real home run is digital trust. Knowing they’re not sliding into anyone else’s DM’s and not feeling the need to micromanage your partner’s online behavior since, presumably, you’ve discussed it.
Being sexually open in person and online with your sig other makes you a true MVP!

Summer is filled with amazing things! The transition to Summer calls for updated make-up and skincare routines that reflect that easy breezy ‘‘out the door look.’’ Who doesn’t want that fresh face, glowing skin and dreamy makeup look? So, how do we get it? Well, we spoke with influencer, make-up artist and teacher, Kaila Gibson. She spills the tea on how to look fabulous this summer.
Q. How do we get that beachy, dewy glow?
A. Use less concealer and foundation. You should use BB creams (beauty balm), CC creams (color correcting) along with illuminating bronzing drops and cream bronzers to obtain that look.
Q. You partied all night at the Surf Lodge, how do you make tired eyes look bright?
A. You should use caffeinated eye cream which helps to alleviate puffiness along with color corrector for those under eye dark circles. Now, don’t forget the top of your eyes.
Draw attention to them by utilizing mascara and eye shadow, upwards, above the crease to open the eye. With that, incorporate nude eyeliner such as Fake Awake by Tarte.
Q. How do we get that red lipped, Taylor Swift look?
A. I like CELESTY red lipstick. Once applied, use a loose powder on your lips to help the color ‘set.’
Q. What eye shadow colors should we wear for Summer?
A. Bronze and purples, they work well with many eye colors.
Q. How can we make our eye color pop?
A. Choose a color, on the opposite side of the color wheel. If you have blue eyes, you should use orange or bronze. If you have brown eyes, you should use a pink, red-bronze or copper eye shadow.
Q. What eye shadow trend never goes out of style?
A. The two-color matte eye color.
Q. How do you get Hailey
Bieber’s sugar plum fairly look?
A. Use pink, rosy-mauve tones along with a little foundation coverage. This gives ‘life’ to the cheeks. To complete the look, use balm and shimmer to get that ‘glossy eye’ look.
Q. What make-up should we never leave home without?
A. Mascara and lip balm.
Q. Beach tip for mascara?
A. When going to the beach use a waterproof tubing mascara. Not a paint mascara. It stays for hours, with no smudging. Kaila suggests using Milani tubing mascara or Tarte tubing mascara.
Q. FAV style of make-up brush we should all have in our cosmetic bag?
A. A fluffy dome powder brush.
Q. FAV eyeliner?
A. Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil.
Q. FAV lip brand that stays on while kissing or sipping a drink?
A. Maybelline Super Stay lipstick and CELESTY lip, which has Vit E, it will keep your lips supple.
Q. If someone wants that ‘fresh face look’, without using cosmetics, what do you suggest?
A. I like Colorscience. It has a slight tint to it with a moderate SPF that acts as a face shield.
Kaila is also a fashion expert who knows that both fashion and beauty run parallel. She expressed, that this Summer, we should all have shades of blue within our wardrobe, such as a soft blue and smoky blue. We should also have a lacey kimono. It can be used at the beach or pool as a cover-up, or it can be dressed up for a night on the town. Just because it’s Summer, doesn’t mean that your jacket is relegated to the back of your closet. A leather jacket goes a long way to dress you up, especially on those chilly nights. As for accessories, gold hoop earrings are a must.
