Welcome to the latest edition of the Global Entertainment Production Digital newsletter.

With the world moving on post the pandemic and shows getting back to full audiences and crew, this newsletter highlights the continued unique digital content that has been happening across our territories.

Thank you very much to all the digital teams who have been vital in providing these creative ideas for us to share at the beginning of this newsletter and to Tom Hoffman and Sandy Reyes in the DBE team who have provided the Platform Update.

I’m back in the office a few days a week, enjoying the change of scenery and seeing my colleagues face to face again and finally out of my kitchen to enjoy the summer, which we are definitely enjoying in the UK at the moment!

ENTERTAINMENT The 20th Anniversary of Idols launched earlier this year in the US and the team created an exclusive on-line promo with the judges. The theme was ‘Discover the Undiscovered’ with the main question being what if Katy, Luke, Lionel and Ryan were never discovered? What would they be doing now?!

CLICK TO VIEW The US Idols team also used their Instagram page to give a sneak peak of ‘The Great Reunion Episode’ which had unique shout outs from previous contestants / celebrity guests, funny throwback photos and graphics from previous series CLICK TO VIEW

With season 19 of Idols launching in Germany this year, the Network used their YouTube channel and the Idols programme FaceBook page to announce the brand new judging line up, which for the first time ever did not have Dieter Bohlen!

They also uploaded a unique trailer on YouTube with a glimpse of the first episode CLICK TO VIEW

In Spain, the Idols Kids team created official accounts with both TikTok and Instagram and used these to upload lots of exclusive digital content. This included a Live Chat with the host and jury. They talked about the show, CLICK TO VIEW connected live with fans and answered their questions.

In Portugal, the team used the network and the Idols programme Instagram pages to show unique backstage rehearsal footage of the 6 finalists, with their coaches. This also showed the backstage crew and cast getting ready for the live show!

ENTERTAINMENT With Season 17 of America’s Got Talent starting at the end of May, the team used both Twitter and Instagram with their judges to give sneak peeks on what was coming up in the first audition episode.

They also did a live Q&A on Instagram with their host just before the premier.

In the UK, Series 15 launched again after being off air in 2021 due to the pandemic. The team created a video showing a ‘day in the life’ of the hosts when rehearsing for the semi finals which was also shown exclusively on social media CLICK TO VIEW The team also used the programme instagram page to show unique backstage interviews with the contestants that had made it through to the final CLICK TO VIEW

In Spain, as Series 7 was coming up to the final the team created an exclusive Instagram reel.

They recorded with all the final acts and produced a creative video with transitions showing each finalists talent.

CLICK TO VIEW Also, a sneak peek for the next season in Spain The team have created a call to action digital exclusive on Instagram. Using a digital host, they have gone out on the streets of Spain looking for talent, with the winner getting a place in the auditions. This content was sponsored by Cofidis (a leading independent finance company). Look out for full details in the next newsletter CLICK TO VIEW

With a brand new season of Canada’s Got Talent launching in March the local team created both Instagram and FaceBook accounts for the programme. They used their official Instagram account to ask the public if they had a question for the judges and host called ‘Ask me Anything’ and their answers would be on Instagram the following week.

In Sweden, the production created a digital show called Unmasked Singer. This was the official after show programme for the production featuring a digital host. The show included guest stars and first interviews with the ‘unmasked CLICK TO VIEW celebrity’ CLICK TO VIEW They also used their Instagram page to play fun games, such as Emoji-Rebus. Can you guess the name of the song that the ‘contestant’ will sing in the finals with these emojis!

In Estonia the team used the show’s FaceBook page to announce the new masks that were in the new season.

Also, to promote the 3rd series premiere they took three of the new ‘masks’ to a local mall to meet and greet the public, with the video shown exclusively on their social media account CLICK TO VIEW

REALITY / DATING With Series 3 of Too Hot To Handle launching on Netflix in the UK, the team created an official digital after show called ‘ExtraHot”. This was shown exclusively on Instagram and had unique content and interviews with the contestants CLICK TO VIEW They also used Instagram for updates to keep viewers hooked before and after the show. They created a Q & A page for viewers to ask the contestants any questions and all answers were uploaded live to the account, including some saucy answers!

In Australia the team used Instagram to show and promote the new ‘Farmers’ for the casting of the new series.

Using short videos of the Farmers the potential suitors could apply directly by clicking on the biography or going to the Network’s website which also had a direct link on the show’s page CLICK TO VIEW Spring 2021

GAMESHOWS With a new series of Family Feud in South Africa the team used their Instagram page to show footage from the episodes, including this clip of Steve Harvey (the host) learning how to pronounce African names!

Staying with Family Feud but this time in the USA, the team used TikTok and Instagram to create regular ‘reels’ with hilarious moments from the show. This increased subscriber numbers by over 200% which was fantastic.

This included the clip titled ‘Name something that makes your husband cry” CLICK TO VIEW

In Germany, a brand news series of the classic gameshow, The Price is Right launched after a break of 4 years and the team used Facebook to give viewers a sneak peek of the upcoming episodes in a short promo CLICK TO VIEW

Another classic gameshow Blankety Blank (Match Game) made a return in the UK with a new host. Using the channel’s Facebook page, they uploaded funny clips from the series, including the ‘unbreakable tie breaker’!

Facebook Reels Monetization!

Facebook just announced an upcoming global expansion of their new ad format test, Facebook Reels: Overlay Ads. This new feature can help create economic opportunities for partners and creators through monetizing Facebook Reels content. They said it is rolling out to 10% of users/partners initially and will be 100% by July 8th, excluding the UK for the moment. Overlay ads include two new formats, Banner Ads and Sticker Ads: • Banner Ads render at the bottom of Facebook Reels content in the form of a single static image ad that can appear at the start of the Facebook Reel.

• Sticker Ads are compressed single static image ads that can be opted into and placed anywhere by a creator or partner within their Facebook Reel content. Sticker ads can also appear at the start of the Facebook Reel.

Upload Videos Up To 10 Minutes Long TikTok is allowing creators to upload videos up to 10 minutes in length. Previously, TikTok videos could be up to 3 minutes long following a change in July 2021. Before that, the limit was 60 seconds after initially expanding from 15 seconds. Prior to the new video length, creators had worked around TikTok limitations by encouraging viewers to follow them for part 2 or more of their video series.

NEW: Corrections Info Card YouTube has added a new Corrections info card that will allow users to add update notes to their YouTube clips, which could save users from having to re-upload an entire video for a minor change or correction. Previously if a user wanted to correct an error in an existing upload or provide an update to information, they would need to re-upload a video resulting in a loss of engagement metrics and comments. Other options were limited to adding a note in the description, responding to comments calling out the error, pinning a comment, or doing nothing.

Twitter and Shopify Partnership Twitter announced a new partnership with Shopify. Twitter will be launching a sales channel app that will be made available to all of Shopify’s U.S. merchants through its app store. The app allows merchants to onboard themselves to Twitter’s Shopping Manager. The dashboard offered by Twitter is where sellers can access product catalog tools and enable other shopping features for their profiles. After linking their Shopify and Twitter accounts, merchants can use the new app to sync their product catalogs to Twitter.

NEW: Idea Ads Last year, Pinterest launched Idea Pins. The new feature allows Pinterest users to tell their stories using a combination of video, images, music, and other editing tools, resulting in a cross between TikTok’s short videos and a Stories product with multiple pages of content. Now, Pinterest is opening up this new format to its advertisers with the launch of its new “Idea Ads.” They are a multi-page format designed for advertisers to showcase ideas in action through video and image content.

Snapchat Plus: Paid Subscriptions Being Tested Snapchat is testing a paid subscription tier for its social network called Snapchat Plus (or Snapchat+), which would give users early access to experimental features like pinning specific conversations and exclusive icons. A date has not been released of when the product will be rolling out, but a Snapchat spokesperson released the following statement: “We’re doing early internal testing of Snapchat Plus, a new subscription service for Snapchatters. We’re excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community.”
