Welcome to the latest edition of the Global Entertainment Production Digital newsletter.

With some of the COVID challenges still continuing around the world, this newsletter highlights all the amazing unique digital content that has been happening across our territories during this time.

Thank you very much to all the digital teams who have been vital in providing these creative ideas for us to share at the beginning of this newsletter and to Tom Hoffman and Sandy Reyes in the DBE team who have provided the Platform Update.

I’m hoping that by the end of this month I will be sitting at my desk in Stephen Street at least a couple of days a week with an actual desk chair!!! You know what they say, a change of scenery is always good!

ENTERTAINMENT With the new season of The X Factor Italy just launching, the team created some fun on social media prior to launch keeping the viewers waiting for the first show.

On Facebook Watch they tricked the new host into believing that he had one final interview, and revealed live on camera that actually he was the new host! His reaction …. Amazing CLICK TO VIEW They also created a new promo, launched exclusively on social media which gave a subtle hint to a change of the categories in the next series CLICK TO VIEW Exclusively on Instagram the team created unique material with the new host so that the viewers could get to know him prior to his debut on the show. Building on the success of last season's Idol CLICK TO VIEW Across America, American Idol is once again holding virtual auditions with producers via Zoom.

The audition dates focus on specific states and regions, with some general nationwide open calls, to make sure the entire country is covered. The team has used social media and targeted paid advertising on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to drive awareness, which has already delivered some of the best talent ever for the upcoming season. The auditions continue into October, but the team has already nearly doubled the number of registered auditioners from last year.

The judges recorded a fun, unique promo just for FaceBook on how and why you should audition on Idols Across America!

With a new series of Idols coming back to Estonia after a four year break, the team used Instagram to start the engagement with the fans. They announced their new judges and host exclusively on their social media accounts and also used unique content to get the viewers excited to watch the start of the new season. Including clips of the auditions, asking viewers to upload their stories if they were there, to a clip of the host skydiving with a link to apply: CLICK TO VIEW

With the new season of America’s Got Talent now finished, the digital team used Instagram to have fun with the semi final contestants, asking them random questions, such as “Does Pineapple go on Pizza” CLICK TO VIEW They also used instagram to create categories of ‘Best Kids’, ‘Golden Buzzer’ and ‘Most Dangerous’ so that you could find all your favourite genres in once place. To keep the viewers on their social media accounts between series the team in Spain have games and polls around the show. One was ’Talent Thursday’, could the viewers remember which contestant got the yes?

They also have lots of new fun, unique content that they will be launching for the next season.

This included asking the ‘Golden Buzzer’ acts what they really know of the judges that picked them.

In France, the team created a new tool for auditions in partnership with FaceBook and Messenger. They created unique sponsor ads which were shown on all social media platforms which a note of how to sign up for the casting.

CLICK TO VIEW They also used TikTok throughout the series so that viewers could upload their own talent to the platform and linked it directly to the show’s TikTok handle.

TO VIEW SpainCLICK launched their first series of The Greatest Dancer earlier this year with a a very exciting digital companion show for the broadcasters online platform. Their digital host, a TikTok star, selected some of the dancers that were not picked by the dance captains during the auditions, to go head to head in dance battles with the winner performing in the final in front of the dance captains and the digital host. All episodes where launched exclusively on the Channel’s website with lots of exclusive footage on both Instagram and Twitter.

We also have a full presentation of how this worked for the channel and FM Spain.

The team also created ‘behind the scenes’ content on social media to show what the contestants did in the few minutes before they went on stage for the Grand Final.

With the first season of Game of Talents launching in France last month, the team used Instagram to upload fun stories before each episode with their host. One game called “Guess the Guest” with viewers given subtle clues for the mystery celebrity that would be appearing on the next episodes. They also created a social media exclusive with the host showing all aspect of backstage before the launch of the first episode: CLICK TO VIEW

The UK Digital team used Instagram to play fun clips with the celebrity guests asking them what the key was to finding the ‘talent’! They also used material from the show to create fun memes on social media.

The UK show also worked with their sponsor McVitie’s (which is a big biscuit brand in the UK) on TikTok asking viewers to show us their talent with a ‘biscuit’ for a chance to win a years supply! #Toogoodnottoshare CLICK TO VIEW Spring 2021

FACTUAL

In the UK with a new series of Escape to the Country launching the team used Instagram to look for new contestants.

Especially with Covid still very fresh in everyones minds, and so many people making the move to the countryside. Also during this series they ran online polls to reveal which houses viewers preferred to live in.

In France, Series 16 of Farmer Wants a Wife launched in August. The digital team used their social media accounts to keep the viewers engaged between the two series. On Instagram they got the farmers who would be appearing on Series 16, to view the previous season’s ‘Speed Dates’ and give their opinion on what they were hoping to find.

GAMESHOWS France launched Family Feud again for the first time in over 4 years with a new host and late night slot, with fun risky questions and answers! For this new series, they created little clips exclusively for social media with the new host dressed as an older home viewers to give fun comments on the show.

In the UK, for the launch of the new series of Family Fortunes the digital team used Instagram to drive viewers to their Youtube Channel. Including What’s got evening ducking for cover? Linking to a very funny ‘mother daughter feud’ over a question!

The classic music gameshow Never Mind The Buzzcocks is back on in the UK after 7 years. The channel and Fremantle used their social media accounts to let viewers know of the launch. On Twitter they featured fun clips from the show, with headlines such as ‘That’s exactly what we were thinking …

CLICK TO VIEW The team also encouraged the celebrity guest to use both Twitter and Facebook to send backstage photos of them backstage and got them to tag the show.

SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEO AND IMAGE SIZING GUIDE DECK Social Media platforms are constantly updating, and in the last few years, they have started to resemble each other with a few key products. Digital & Branded Entertainment present you with a deck that is a cheat sheet into image and video sizing for each platform and compares similar products across all platforms.

POST TESTING GETS AN UPDATE Facebook’s new post testing platform now allows testing of different post formats, including text, link, and image posts.

TIKTOK AND SHOPIFY PARTNERSHIP TikTok is moving into e-commerce. The company announced an expanded partnership with Shopify, as well as a pilot test of TikTok Shopping among select Shopify merchants across the U.S., U.K. and Canada. The checkout takes place through Shopify by clicking the storefront or product link within TikTok, the user is directed to the merchant website to make the purchase and complete the transaction

Platform Trend: TikTok Cloning Digital & Branded Entertainment

As TikTok exponentially grows, competing platforms embrace their unique short form innovations in a race to be the mobile video editing choice for fresh generations.

FOUR NEW YOUTUBE SHORTS FEATURES • 60 Second Recordings: Creators can now toggle video length to 60 seconds. However, when recording Shorts videos with music from the YouTube library, videos are still capped at 15 seconds.

• Shorts Video Filters: Filters enable users to color correct footage or change the look & feel of a video.

• Video Captions: Creators can either allow YouTube to add the captions automatically, or manually add their own.

• Shorts Tab on Home Page: In the mobile app, users can explore more Shorts content via a new tab on the bottom of the screen.

REELS NOW SUPPORTS 60 SECOND VIDEOS Users can now upload 60 second videos on Reels, Instagram’s TikTok competitor. This update also adds functionality for a captions sticker on Reels, which transcribes audio to text. Previously, Instagram only supported Reels of up to 30 seconds, while TikTok recently made it possible for users to create videos up to three minutes long.

TINDER LETS PEOPLE ADD VIDEOS TO THEIR DATING PROFILES Tinder just added an Explore page to its app, part of an attempt to be more Gen Z-friendly that includes videos in profiles and a generally more interactive experience aimed at drawing in younger users. The Explore feature dropped in all English-speaking countries September 8th, and will be available worldwide by mid-October.
