Welcome to the latest edition of the Global Entertainment Production Digital newsletter.

With COVID challenges still continuing around the world, this newsletter highlights all the amazing unique digital content that has been happening across our territories during tough restrictions and social distancing.

Thank you very much to all the digital teams who have been vital in providing these creative ideas for us to share at the beginning of this newsletter and to Tom Hoffman and Sandy Reyes in the DBE team who have provided the Platform Update.

Stay safe all, I’m still at my kitchen table, still haven’t got new dining chairs, but as the weather gets warmer and the vaccine gives us the hope that the end is in sight, I’m really hoping that I will be able to get back to the office soon!

GAME OF TALENTS The US show launched on 10th March and they have created some great unique content on their social media channels.

On Instagram, they linked with the HiHo Kids (which promotes empathy and kindness through play with children) to have some of the kids show off their own talent

They also encouraged contestants to tag the official Game of Talents accounts and post a little behind the scenes clip so that you could try and guess what their talent is, this then encourages you to watch the show that evening to find out the ‘Hidden Talent’

Using a filter created on Instagram, they got their host Wayne Brady to upload some clips to see if he could re-create the talent coming up. The filter was also available to try at home CLICK TO VIEW

Another fun game created was the Emoji Challenge, where you have to guess what the hidden talent is based on the Emoji’s. Do you know what the Talent is? ….

GAME OF TALENTS In the UK the Digital team used their host to announce that he will be presenting a brand new format coming to ITV. Also, a little sneak peak of what’s to come when the show launches on 10th April 2021. The team are planning lots of exciting unique content across their social media pages, including a campaign with McVities (a big biscuit brand) on TikTok, where every week they will encourage the nation to “Show Us Their #HiddenTalent”. More details in the next newsletter

In Sweden the team piggy-backed on their broadcaster app, which meant they had a low cost option for introducing social media content. The premise was simple but really effective, allowing the home-viewer to play along trying to guess the ‘Talent’

GOT TALENT In Italy the team launched their 11th Season of Got Talent by creating a cute ‘puppet’ promo which they put out on social media. The premise, the judges also have their own ‘talent’ to share CLICK TO VIEW They also used unique content of the judges on social media, to give their opinions on what ‘Talent’ really means to them CLICK TO VIEW Another fun game they asked the judges to play, was to draw a portrait of each other and showed the clips on Instagram..The drawings showed what they really thought of each other CLICK TO VIEW

The show in the USA is currently out of season, but the team had fun repurposing clips from the previous season. Including this compila>on with one of the judges Sophia Vergara CLICK TO VIEW Also, with the pandemic still causing audition problems around the world, the team used their social media accounts to guide contestants to their website for them to register for the virtual opens calls to be part of the new season Spring 2021 |

IDOLS With the new season of American Idols starting earlier this year, the team enjoy adding their story-telling to Instagram.

Tapping into TikTok trends, they got the contestants to follow the trend (this example of changing from day to night clothes with one move) and then added them to IG stories CLICK TO VIEW They also used Instagram to launch fun clips from the show to get the audience involved.

In Indonesia the team used lots of fun clips from the show on their FB and Instagram pages. They also used TikTok to create fun unique content, Including having their contestants create their own dance routine to the Idols Theme Tune, trending as #idolabangjago CLICK TO VIEW

MASKED SINGER/GREATEST DANCER The team in Ukraine created their own TikTok page for Maska and used unique content of their detectives talking with the ‘backstage host’ about what the contestants must be going through with the big heavy costumes CLICK TO VIEW

In Romania to mark the final of the series they got the last four of their ‘masked contestants’ out onto the street with their ‘digital host’ to create fun unique videos and added them to Tik Tok CLICK TO VIEW

Although the Spanish team are not yet on air with their brand new season of The Greatest Dancer the team are very excited to be creating a digital companion show for the broadcasters online platform. Their digital host, a TikTok star, will select some of the dancers that were not picked by the dance captains during the auditions, to go head to head in dance battles and the final winner will have the chance to dance in the finale of The Dancer. GAMESHOWS

We launched Family Feud for the first time in South Africa and Ghana hosted by the legendary Steve Harvey. The team created compilation clips from the series, with hilarious results. Including “What did you say?!?! Somebody help Steve out!”

In Canada the digital team used Instagram to create fun InstStories with spaces such as Fan Q’s, Gerry Ask’s and Quizzes. They also used Instagram to link to the broadcasters website for more fun content, to see if the audience could guess the top answers to very Canadian Family Feud Questions:

In The Netherlands the team added some clips to their BlueCircle Instagram home page announcing the re-launch of Family Feud after being off their screens for over 5 years! Using fun images as well as small clips from the show: CLICK TO VIEW

GAMESHOWS In the US To Tell The Truth was put on hold due to COVID, but are now airing the remainder of the episodes and posting plenty of fun short videos on Twitter. As the host and his mum are both part of the show there is a lot of between-episode fun with them CLICK TO VIEW

In France they launched the classic gameshow Password again after a 5 year break and used Instagram to create unique content with their guests. Asking ‘What is your favourite French word as well as official debriefs with the guests looking back on the moments and highlights of the week, exclusively for Instagram CLICK TO VIEW

After the final episode of Supermarket Sweep in the USA - the team continued to use their Instagram page to let viewers know that they can binge watch the entire series on Hulu - using fun clips from the season.

PLATFORMS UPDATE Digital & Branded Entertainment

UPDATE ON VIDEO MONETIZATION Facebook recently updated the criteria for their in-stream Ads program. To be eligible for in-stream ads, pages must now have: • 10,000 page followers • 600,000 total minutes viewed in the last 60 days.

• 5 or more active video uploads or previously aired FB Live videos. Videos must be published, not deleted, and compliant with their Content Monetization Policies.

4 WAY LIVE ROOMS Instagram introduced Live Rooms, which gives you the ability to go Live on Instagram with up to three people. Previously, you could go live with only one other person in a stream, but they are now letting you “double up” on your live broadcast.

SPACES ON TWITTER Twitter announced that its audio-based Spaces will allow a user to gather with another person or a group of users for live conversations. You'll see them appear while they're happening. Once they've ended, they will no longer be available publicly on Twitter. Twitter is early in their launch but Spaces will expand. Currently anyone on iOS and Android can join and listen in a Space and a small group of people on iOS are able to create a Space.

NEW TOOLS TO PROMOTE KINDNESS ON TIKTOK TikTok is giving creators more power to control comments. With their new Filter All Comments feature, creators can decide which comments will appear on their videos. When enabled, comments aren't displayed unless the video's creator approves them using the new comment management tool. This allows you to filter spam and offensive comments and specific keywords.

Snapchat SPOTLIGHT Snapchat launched a new feature called “Spotlight,” which highlights viral public snaps. To encourage posts, Snapchat is paying actual money to people whose posts make it to Spotlight, from a pot of about $1 million every day.

PAID SUPER FOLLOWS Twitter plans on providing opportunities for monetary incentive models that allow creators and publishers on Twitter to be directly supported by their audience. They plan on exploring solutions like giving users the ability to charge their followers for access to additional content via tipping and account subscriptions through Super Follows.
