Marriage is a sacred ceremony of union that is full of surprises. Young as I was, I already convinced myself that marrying is my end goal. Marriage isolates the woman from her parents leaving them with just memories and footprints-gating the way towards the world of rainbows and butterflies. It is an accord that makes every gloomy day a polychromatic one. Marriage is waking up, curled under the arms of someone I love, while sniffing his morning scent-- something that I, as a woman, will never trade. Drinking our brim-filled coffee, watching the raindrops falling from our window pane, wiping each other’s coffee lips stain—what a perfect way to commence a new day. Marriage is traveling the world and sleeping together at night to rest and together wait the breaking of daylight to begin another adventure as one. Marriage is a lifetime happiness and never ending intimacy. I have already typed the first paragraphs when I realized that I am being dishonest. I immediately keyed ctrl a and backspace to correct this fantasy-like definition of marriage. As I became a wife just recently, I have learned that marriage is not how I imagined it to be. Marriage is complicated and marriage is a test—a test of faith, loyalty, and love. It is not always a room of unicorn and mallows. It is not always a day full of smiles and giggles. It is not always a beautiful morning face and fragrant morning scent. Marriage is sometimes monstrous and salty. It can be a day of tears and tiresomeness. It can be a grumpy morning face with unbearable morning breath. That is when your patience as a lover is tested. With all of these, I realized that marriage is life-changing. The love allotted for one’s self is divided for two. The long pa-

tience we developed through time needs a little more extension. The faith and loyalty we utter as vows in front of the Almighty, need a day-to-day reminder. The love we share with each other should grow even from the dim- even from the arguments we made while drinking coffee together, and watching news about the Philippine Political System. The control A, backspace I did has an exemption though—the first one-sentence paragraph. Although marriage is full of adjustments, full of giggles, full of urgings, full of companionship, full of rants, and full of contentment—all at once—it is still a sacred ceremony of union that is full of surprises. To sum it up, in its very literal sense, marriage is not a ctrl a, backspace process. It is a control a and control z combination—undoing the old habits and redoing them, with consideration and adjustments, to fit in with each other.
