RROTARY celebrates September as Basic
Education and Literacy Month, one of Rotary's seven areas of focus
Rotary supports education for all children and literacy for children and adults The goal is to strengthen communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase literacy
Reading and writing are fundamental life skills that enable individuals to acquire knowledge, communicate effectively, and make agreements Enhancing literacy and basic education skills is crucial for reducing poverty, improving health, fostering community development, and promoting economic growth, which encourages peace These improvements can help alleviate poverty, reduce infant mortality, and enhance childhood survivability, as well as pave the way for professional or commercial success
The Rotary Club of Narvacan has implemented numerous impactful projects to increase the literacy rates of students in the area These include the establishment of a school library, the distribution of books and other reading materials, participating in the Brigada Eslwela, scholarship assistance, and providing school supplies for indigent children, and even meeting the needs of teachers to improve teaching capacities, among others During the COVID-19 pandemic, RC Naracan also distributed tables and Wi-Fi modems to children in remote areas to help them access the internet and research at home due to mobility restrictions.
For the Rotarians of RC Narvacan, literacy is a fleeting concern and a deeply ingrained commitment They recognize that literacy is not just a personal skill but a social and economic issue that impacts us all This understanding fuels their ongoing support for programs and training that empower people of all ages to become more proficient readers and writers Their steadfast dedication is a testament to Rotary's enduring mission
Essential Life Support training reinforces the understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation for working professionals It covers the basic steps of early CPR and defibrillation, performing CPR, relieving choking, and the role of each link in the Chain of Survival
Through BLS training, professionals gain the ability to recognize and respond to various lifethreatening emergencies, such as strokes, cardiac arrest, heart problems, injuries, and accidents They learn to provide CPR to victims of all ages and to relieve choking in a safe, timely, and effective manner, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of emergency response
Recognizing the significant benefits of BLS training, the Rotary Club of Narvacan, in collaboration with the Southern Ilocos Sur Medical Society, LGU-Narvacan, Philippine Red Cross-Ilocos Sur Chapter, PCP-Ilocos Abra Chapter, Judge Celestino Guerrero Memorial Hospital, LacasYakap Foundation, Chad's Cafe Bar and Grill, and LGBT Pilipinas-Narvavcan Chapter organized a Basic Life Support and First Aid Training event on August 26, 2024, at Peoples Gym Narvacan, Ilocos Sur.
The event was a resounding success, with over 200 participants from diverse professional backgrounds, including barangay health workers, daycare workers, employees, and community members. Each participant received BLS training and certification, equipping them to provide immediate medical assistance in cases of strokes, cardiac arrest, heart problems, injuries, or accidents
With the approaching start of the 20242025 school year, there is a pressing need for school supplies for children from low-income families in rural areas Everyone's support is not just essential but also life-changing It can prevent these children from missing school, denying them their right to education
Recognizing the profound impact of education on every child and in line with the club's advocacy for education for all, the Rotary Club of Narvacan, in partnership with Ako' Magsasakang Organico, FarmAide Enterprises, and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources of Ilocos Sur, successfully provided free school supplies and office supplies to Aquib Elementary School and Pantoc Elementary School both in Narvacan, Ilocos Sur They also gave in Gusing Elementary School and Nalvo Elementary School, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur for the entire month of September
This project addresses the challenges and impact of poverty on children by helping them have access to free primary school supplies, which will help them stay in school, learn with others, and break the cycle of poverty This successful initiative demonstrates the difference that Rotarians can make when they come together with others with generous hearts
By donating school supplies, RC Narvacan is not just supporting a cause They embody Rotary's passion for service Their actions, along with their partners in this endeavor, promote a culture of kindness and compassion at the heart of Rotary's mission
On August 3, 2024, RC Narvacan launched the 'Iskolar ng Rotarian' Project with a strong belief in the power of education as a fundamental right and a catalyst for personal and societal advancement
Through this initiative, RC Narvacan aims to provide crucial financial assistance to exceptionally talented but financially disadvantaged students, helping them overcome the significant financial barriers that often impede their educational pursuits
These carefully chosen scholars, recognized for their potential and unwavering determination, are offered monthly financial support, granting them the ability to concentrate on their studies with reduced financial burden
The impact of this support on their lives is immeasurable, as it not only enables them to pursue their academic dreams but also instills a sense of hope and determination
Furthermore, the project serves as a testament to the resolute dedication of Rotarians from RC Narvacan to the cause of education as they take on the vital roles of mentors and benefactors to these scholars, guiding them toward academic excellence and future accomplishments.
Rotary's public image goes beyond mere name recognition; it reflects the actions of our members, the activities we undertake, and the impact we create. Each of us plays a vital role in shaping how people outside of Rotary perceive our organization.
Our public image is not just a logo or a name; it is a powerful tool that can build trust and inspire others to join our cause. By sharing stories of our actions, we can showcase the impact we are making and motivate others to get involved
Promoting Rotary to the general public doesn't have to be complicated. It can be as simple as wearing your Rotary pin or sharing a post on social media. Every small action contributes to increasing the public's understanding of Rotary and enhances our ability to make a global impact
To gain additional knowledge on how to improve the positive public image and brand of Rotary, members of RC Narvacan attended the Public Image Seminar 2024 of District 3790 last September 14, 2024, held at Levo Hotel Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
This activity taught the participants to share their Rotary stories in whatever medium to motivate others to participate in the Rotary service. Insights were also given on how to promote the service activities of Rotary Clubs through social media and other platforms. The public image seminar supports Rotary's strategic goal of enhancing the public's image of Rotary and its awareness of our service and activities. The seminar was hosted by Cluster 2A of D3790
