FIRST CLASS MAG N.E. PROGETTO EDITORIALE Editorial Project First Class Mag, che ormai vanta una straordinaria storia di 8 anni, e con una divulgazione di circa 10.000 copie annue, si rinnova con un nuovo e importante progetto editoriale.

Fondato da Antonella Carlucci, tutt’oggi editrice, da sempre affiancata dal direttore responsabile della testata Chiara Poggi, il magazine ha da questo numero un nuovo direttore artistico, l’architetto Giuseppe Gastone Pasella.

First Class Mag, which now boasts an extraordinary 8-year history and a circulation of approximately 10,000 copies per year, is undergoing a renewal with a new and important editorial project.

Founded by Antonella Carlucci, who is still the publisher, always supported by the editor-in-chief Chiara Poggi, the magazine now has a new artistic director, architect Giuseppe Gastone Pasella.

Tra l’architetto e l’editrice è infatti nata un’importante joint venture, che vede Giuseppe Gastone Pasella anche responsabile del settore architettura e design della prestigiosa First Class House (luxury real estate), operante nel settore della consulenza immobiliare attraverso un’importante rete di collegamenti, che la vede presente in più di 80 paesi al mondo.

An important joint venture has indeed been established between the architect and the publisher, with Giuseppe Gastone Pasella also taking responsibility for the architecture and design sector of the prestigious First Class House (luxury real estate), operating in real estate consulting through a significant network of connections present in over 80 countries worldwide.

Giuseppe Gastone Pasella, forte di esperienze internazionali, definisce il “nuovo magazine”: trasversale e irriverente, modaiolo, trendy pettegolo e di gran classe nella forma e nel contenuto. “Piattaforma di partenza” mossa dall’entusiasmo di raccontare una nazione unica nel panorama mondiale, e vincente, anche affiancata da altre realtà globali.

Drawing on his international experience, Giuseppe Gastone Pasella describes the «new magazine» as transversal and irreverent, fashionable, trendy, and of great class in form and content. It will serve as a launching platform driven by the enthusiasm to portray a unique and successful nation on the global stage, alongside other global realities.

Tutankhamon e il Grande Museo Egizio 2023

Sebbene la scoperta della tomba di Tutankhamon sia avvenuta il 4 novembre 1922, l’Egitto celebra il centenario della sua scoperta nel 2023, in concomitanza con l’apertura, finalmente, del nuovo Grande Museo Egizio, il più grande museo archeologico del mondo con oltre 100.000 reperti. All’orizzonte e già in costruzione c’è anche la creazione della controversa nuova capitale amministrativa dell’Egitto, a Est del Cairo, che sostituirà l’attuale complesso come centro del governo, sfoggiando con orgoglio la torre più alta dell’Africa e il Green River Park di 35 chilometri, progettato per imitare la forma del Nilo.

Ci sono quindi molti motivi per visitare l’Egitto quest’anno.

Although the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb occurred on November 4, 1922, Egypt celebrates the centenary of its discovery in 2023, coinciding with the opening of the new Great Egyptian Museum: the largest museum archaeological world with over 100,000 historical finds.

On the horizon and already under construction, there is also the creation of the controversial new administrative capital of Egypt, East Cairo. This new capital will replace the current complex becoming the center of government, proudly displaying the highest tower in Africa and the Green River Park of 35 kilometers, designed to imitate the shape of the Nile. This year there are many reasons for visit Egypt.

La Capitale italiana della Cultura, un’idea lanciata nel 2014, vuole promuovere la valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale italiano con progetti e attività. Ora per la prima volta sono due le città scelte come Capitale Italiana della Cultura, un riconoscimento della loro vitalità culturale nonostante quanto vissuto durante la pandemia. Questa nuova iniziativa di Bergamo e Brescia significa l’avvio di un progetto di ampio respiro per affrontare le sfide contemporanee incentrate su cultura, sostenibilità, valorizzazione del patrimonio artistico, benessere e innovazione.

Bergamo e Brescia diventano un’unica città “illuminata” e un’unica capitale.

Quest’anno ci sono quattro assi tematici: città e natura, tesori nascosti, la città che inventa e la cultura come cura.

Bergamo and Brescia, Italian Capitals of Culture all 2023

The Italian Capital of Culture, an idea launched in 2014, aims to enhance the Italian cultural heritage with projects and activities. For the first time ever, two cities had been chosen as the Italian Capital of Culture, as a recognition of their cultural vitality despite what they experienced during the pandemic.

Bergamo and Brescia new initiative is the start of a wide-ranging project to address contemporary challenges focused on culture, sustainability, enhancement of the artistic heritage, well-being and innovation. Bergamo and Brescia become one “illuminated” city and one capital.

This year there are four thematic axes: city and nature, hidden treasures, the city that invents and culture as a cure.

AGENDA Stonehenge - Aspettando l’alba Salisbury, Inghilterra notte 21 giugno

Nella notte che precede il 21 giugno migliaia di persone si radunano davanti al monumento megalitico di Stonehenge, nel Wiltshire, in Inghilterra, per celebrare il sole.

Turisti, studiosi, neopagani, moderni druidi o semplici curiosi attendono l’alba tra celebrazioni medievali e rievocazioni storiche. Quando il sole sorge i suoi raggi battono diretti sulla pietra centrale, la Heel Stone.

Festival di Glastonbury Pilton, Inghilterra 21- 25 giugno

Stonehenge - Waiting for sunrise Salisbury, England night of the 21th of June

On the night before the 21th of June, thousands of people gather in front of the megalithic monument in Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England, to celebrate the sun.

Tourists, scholars, Neopagans, modern druids or simple onlookers await the sunrise experiencing in the meantime medieval celebrations and historical reenactments. When the sun rises, its rays hit the center stone, the Heel Stone. For this reason, many claim that the site was once a sort of astronomical observatory: it seems that the order of the stones has been studied with care to tune in to the first rays of the summer solstice.

Nato negli anni ’70, il festival è oggi il più famoso del Regno Unito: viene trasmesso in diretta alla TV e coperto da numerose stazioni radio, diventando l’argomento del giorno per molte settimane a seguire. Una sorta di Sanremo italiana in salsa hippie inglese.

Benché noto per la sua musica, il festival offre anche spettacoli di danza, teatro, circo, cabaret e altre forme d’arte.

Accaparrarsi i biglietti non è semplice, anzi! Si racconta sia più facile trovare un biglietto d’oro in una barretta di cioccolato, ma se sei uno dei fortunati, non dimenticare di mettere in valigia gli stivali di gomma: in Inghilterra, si sa, piove sempre ed il terreno è noto per diventare subito un vero e proprio pantano.

Glastonbury Festival Pilton, England 21- 25 June

Born in the 70s, the festival is now the most famous in the UK: it is broadcasted live on TV and covered by numerous radio stations, becoming the topic of day for many weeks to follow. A kind of Italian Sanremo in English hippie-sauce.

Although being known for its music, the festival also offers dance performances, theatre, circus, cabaret and further art forms.

Buying tickets is not easy! Indeed, it is said that it is easier to find a golden ticket in a chocolate bar. But if you’re one of the lucky ones, don’t forget to pack your wellies: in England, as you probably know, it rains always and the ground is known to become immediately a real quagmire.

Hokkai Heso Matsuri Furano-shi, Hokkaido, Giappone 28 - 29 luglio

La città di Furano si trova nel centro di Hokkaido ed è affettuosamente descritta come l’ombelico dell’isola. Da qui, oltre che dal legame del festival con il Santuario Heso, scaturì la scintilla che diede origine al matsuri Hokkai Heso (che significa, appunto, ombelico). I partecipanti dipingono volti comici sulla metà superiore del loro corpo, per poi sfilare per la città portando colore e vivacità nei dintorni. Per due giorni la città è in festa, tra cerimonie, parate musicali, beer party e dance competition.

Inoltre in estate, Furano stupisce i visitatori per i suoi sconfinati campi di lavanda, un “mare” irresistibile da godere passeggiando. Il periodo migliore per osservare la fioritura è proprio luglio.

Illuminate Adelaide 28 – 30 luglio

Hokkai Heso Matsuri Furano-shi, Hokkaido, Japan 28 - 29 July

The city of Furano is located in the center of Hokkaido and is fondly described as the “navel of the island”. From here, besides the link of the festival with the Sanctuary Heso, originates the spark that gave rise to matsuri Hokkai Heso (which means “navel”). Participants paint comic faces on the upper half of their body, and then parade through the city bringing color and liveliness in the surroundings. For two days the city is celebrating, including ceremonies, music parades, beer parties and dance competitions. Moreover, during the summer Furano amazes visitors for its endless fields of lavender, an irresistible “sea” to enjoy while walking. The best period to witness their blossoming is, undeniably, July.

Illuminate Adelaide 28 - 30 July

Illuminate Adelaide is an annual winter event held every July at Adelaide, South Australia. This festival includes free and paid tickets events hosted by local, national and international artists and companies. In its four nights the festival celebrates light, design, installation of art and live performances. Australia’s new big winter event is a beacon, an invitation, a show in the whole city that challenges people to shake off the winter sadness and reawaken a sense of wonder.

AGENDA Tomorrowland: Boom Belgio 28 - 30 luglio

Cercare di estrapolare tutti i dj superstar che si esibiranno a Tomorrowland 2023, il festival di musica dance elettronica più bello e famoso del mondo, è un’impresa epica. Ma scorrendo la lista infinita di nomi saltano all’occhio Hardwell, Amelie Lens, Armin van Buuren, Nina Kraviz, Paul Kalkbrenner e i nostri resident Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Vintage Culture, Meduza e Purple Disco Machine.

“Ascendo” (questo il nome del tema di quest’anno), sarà la prima edizione accompagnata da un romanzo fantasy che ripercorrerà le origini del tema scelto. Gli organizzatori l’hanno definita “la chiave per sbloccare un’experience mai vista in un festival musicale”. In molti sostengono che il sito un tempo fosse una sorta di osservatorio astronomico: sembra infatti che l’ordinamento delle pietre sia stato studiato con cura per sintonizzarsi con i primi raggi del solstizio d’estate.

Festival dei fantasmi affamati Singapore, Malesia, Hong Kong 30 agosto

Tomorrowland: Boom Belgium 21 - 23 July - 28 - 30 July

Trying to extrapolate all of the superstar DJs that are going to perform at 2023 Tomorrowland, the most beautiful and famous electronic dance music festival in the world, is tough. Scrolling the participants’ list, Hardwell, Amelie Lens, Armin van Buuren, Nina Kraviz, Paul Kalkbrenner and our resident Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Vintage Culture, Meduza and Purple Disco Machine stand out.

“Ascendo” (this is the name of this year’s theme), will be the first edition accompanied by a fantasy novel that will trace the origins of this theme. The organizers called it “the key to unlocking an experience never seen in a music festival”.

La Festa dei Fantasmi Affamati (中元 节zhōng yuán jié), meglio conosciuta anche come Hungry Ghost Festival, è una festa tradizionale cinese celebrata il quindicesimo giorno del settimo mese lunare. Una festa solenne, la Festa dei Fantasmi rappresenta le connessioni tra i vivi e i morti, tra terra e cielo, e tra corpo e anima. Per le comunità cinesi in Malesia (soprattutto Chinatown) e Singapore (in particolare Penang e Melaka), Hungry Ghost Month costituisce, anche un’occasione seria e riflessiva per fare offerte di cibo e denaro bruciato per la preghiera ai defunti per placarli. Vengono allestiti palchi per intrattenere i fantasmi (e anche i vivi) con musica e spettacoli teatrali.

Hungry Ghost Festival Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong 30th of August

The Hungry Ghost Festival (中 元 节 zhōng yuán jié), is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month. The Ghost Festival, a solemn celebration, represents the connections between the living and the dead, between earth and sky, and between body and soul. For the Chinese communities in Malaysia (especially Chinatown) and Singapore (in particular Penang and Melaka), Hungry Ghost Month also constitutes a serious and reflective opportunity to make offerings of food and money burned for the prayer to the dead to appease them. Stages are set up to entertain the ghosts (and also the living) with music and theater performances.

Cavaliere del lavoro, grande imprenditore che ha permesso di far conoscere il genio e la capacità italiana all’estero, forse, più di chiunque altro. Statista, amante del bello e costruttore straordinario e lungimirante.

A Milano 2 e 3 anche i bambini possono circolare a piedi indisturbati, a rischio “urbano” vicino allo zero. Qualità ambientale elevata, misure di contenimento acustico su strade concepite “a piani”. idee “d’avanguardia”, naturali e di concezione straordinaria.

Quattro miliardi di fatturato, praticamente sempre in crescita, 15.000 dipendenti.

Cuore grande e con un altruismo. Ipocrisia politica “zero”.

Forse la pletora di contorno, esclusi pochi, non era all’altezza. Ma per stare dietro a così elevati ideali di liberismo e vera democrazia, ci vuole capacità che pochi hanno.

Noi cresciuti da sempre con la “voglia di fare”, di metterci in gioco, d’inventarci le sfide con la speranza e un po’ di certezza, di vincerle.

A big heart and altruism. “Zero” political hypocrisy. Perhaps the surrounding plethora, with few exceptions, was not up to par. But to uphold such lofty ideals of liberalism and true democracy, it takes a capacity that few possess.

We, who have always been raised with the “desire to do,” to put ourselves in the game, to invent challenges with hope and a bit of certainty, to win them.

We, who have always had meritocracy in our blood, whoever wins and whoever loses! Whether in the “big” or in our own “small” way. However, this may not be a prerogative of politicians. But who knows, maybe one day things will truly change.

My deepest condolences, to the family and to all Italians who, like me, have lost a reference point.

Difficile poter dare una definizione netta su ciò che è stato Silvio Berlusconi.

Io appartengo alla schiera che l’ha sempre chiamato “Dottore” e non “Cavaliere”. Per noi che lavoravamo a Telemilano 58 prima e poi a Canale5, Italia1 e Rete4 è sempre stato “il Dottore”. Per gli altri che l’hanno conosciuto non per motivi di lavoro, Silvio Berlusconi era “il Cavaliere” o altri appellativi a scelta affibbiati da chi lo vedeva come un nemico da abbattere. Ecco, noi dei primi tempi del suo percorso imprenditoriale possiamo solo dire: grazie Dottore, ci hai cambiato la vita! E Mediaset dei primi tempi non era formata da dipendenti di una sola parte politica, c’erano colleghi giornalisti di sinistrissima, moderati di centro ed anche qualcuno di destra. Ma tutti convinti che questo signore, che ci aveva insegnato a pensare in grande, ci aveva dato la possibilità di un lavoro che era anche divertimento, un lavoro in cui non metteva becco, lasciando a tutti la libertà di esprimersi al meglio senza sue interferenze ideologiche. Un lavoro nuovo che ha contribuito per molti a raggiungere la sicurezza economica. Poi Silvio Berlusconi è entrato in politica ma quella è un’altra storia. E veniamo agli altri, a quelli che pensavamo che chiamarlo Dottore fosse un atto di piaggeria, a quelli che “il Cavaliere” non è mai andato a genio. L’Italia, e non solo, è un Paese ancorato alle contrade, tipo Palio di Siena: chi non è con me è contro di me. Alla faccia della dialettica! Son convinto sia inutile discutere per dare la corretta definizione di chi è stato Berlusconi. Ognuno si terrà la propria, formata con occhio indulgente o al contrario con occhio da nemico. E ognuno sarà sempre sicuro che la propria idea sia quella corretta.

Non solo l’Italia è il Paese delle fazioni, anche tutto il Mondo è Paese. Fra 50 anni nei libri di storia, cartacei o digitali che siano, nel bene o nel male si parlerà di Berlusconi. Questa è una certezza.

It is difficult to give a clear definition of what Silvio Berlusconi was. I belong to the group that has always called him “Dottore” (Doctor) and not “Cavaliere” (Knight). For those of us who worked at Telemilano 58 first and then at Canale5, Italia1, and Rete4, he has always been “il Dottore.” For others who knew him not for work-related reasons, Silvio Berlusconi was “il Cavaliere” or other appellations chosen by those who saw him as an enemy to be brought down. It was a new job that contributed to the economic security of many. Then Silvio Berlusconi entered politics, but that is another story. And now, let’s talk about the others, those who thought that calling him Dottore was an act of flattery, those who never liked “il Cavaliere.” Italy, and not only Italy, is a country anchored to factions, like the Palio di Siena: if you’re not with me, you’re against me. To hell with dialectics! I am convinced that it is useless to argue about giving the correct definition of who Berlusconi was. Everyone will stick to their own definition, formed with either an indulgent eye or, on the contrary, an eye of an enemy.

And everyone will always be sure that their idea is the correct one.

Italy is not only a country of factions, the whole world is the same. In 50 years, in history books, whether in print or digital, for better or worse, Berlusconi will be discussed. That is certain.

lasse 1984, madrileno e con personalità da vendere.

Joaquín Morodo Garcia sorprende per la sua instancabile poliedricità. Una qualità che sin dalla più giovane età lo porta a coltivare passioni in campo artistico, trasformandole oggi in vere e proprie attività. Vanta due lauree - Legge e International Business -, è coinvolto in numerose iniziative sociali a difesa dei diritti umani e ha dato vita a diverse start-up nei settori più differenti – medicina naturale, footwear e marketing. Da oltre vent’anni collabora con il mondo della moda e del lusso, ma l’ambito in cui lo troviamo protagonista sulla rampa di lancio è senza dubbio l’arte, che interpreta attraverso opere in cui riferimenti colti, attualità e provocazioni convivono con efficacia.

La sua “compagna inseparabile? “La musica”, ci risponde. È infatti anche cantante, songwriter e produttore musicale.

Lo abbiamo conosciuto al Fuorisalone 2022, durante il suo debutto italiano con l’installazione multisensoriale di digital art HUMANO. Ci ha da subito travolto con la sua creatività sfaccettata e il suo carattere camaleontico.

Joaquín Morodo Garcia astonishes for his versatileness.

A talent that leads him from the earliest age to cultivate artistic passions, metamorphosing them today into real activities. Double-majored in laws and international business, he is involved in countless social activities defending human rights and he gave birth to several start-ups operating in a disparate range of sectors- natural medicine, footwear and marketing. For over twenty years he has joined forces with the fashion and luxury world, but his main field, his take off point is indeed art, performed through pieces in which cultural references, current events and provocations coexist in perfect harmony.

Morodo’s “inseparable companion?” “Music”, he answers.

Effectively, he is also a singer, songwriter and music producer.

We got to know him at Fuorisalone 2022, during his Italian debut with his digital art multisensory installation HUMANO. Promptly, he overwhelmed us with his multifaceted creativity and its chameleon-like character.

Arte. Cosa significa per te e come descriveresti la tua?

Glaze. Per me l’arte è l’ossessione di vivere ad alta voce. La mia arte è per tutti, ma letta in modo approfondito è rivolta a un pubblico colto. È qualcosa che dovrebbe disturbare chi è a suo agio e confortare chi è invece “disturbato”. È l’arma che ho a disposizione per parlare con me stesso e con gli altri. Infine, vuole essere una chiamata alla riflessione.

Pittura, musica, modeling: in che modo riesci a conciliare le tue tante passioni e professioni?

L’organizzazione è il segreto del successo. Bisogna rendersi conto che siamo qui di passaggio, ed organizzarmi per ottimizzare al massimo il tempo è per me prioritario. Tutte queste mie attività contribuiscono a coltivare la mia apertura mentale che non sarebbe possibile senza dedizione, sforzo e soprattutto organizzazione.

Essere consapevoli (ed organizzati) del tempo che abbiamo a disposizione è la chiave per poter coltivare le diverse attività che si vogliono svolgere in questa vita.

C’è un artista o un personaggio a cui ti ispiri in particolare?

Sarebbe una lista infinita. Dopo aver creato le basi studiando per decenni la storia, oggi continuo ad essere concentrato nella ricerca e nello studio della mia anima.

Trai dal passato gli spunti per le tue opere ma la tua arte è fortemente digital, quindi proiettata verso il futuro. Ci puoi spiegare il perché di questa scelta?

La mia arte non è soltanto digital, anzi, nasce sempre in maniera analogica e al momento continuerà così.

Da Madrid, tua città natale, a Milano, passando per Parigi, Londra e New York: quale luogo trovi più stimolante e perché hai deciso di fermarti in Italia?

Tutto il mondo è paese. Queste grandi città hanno una grandissima offerta culturale e non solo. Ma al momento l’Italia è per me il posto più stimolante, il più bello al mondo. Ho deciso di andare

Art. What does it mean to you and how would you describe yours?

Glaze. Personally, art is the obsession of living aloud. My art is for everyone, but if you read it deeply it is addressed to an educated audience. It is something that should disturb those who are comfortable and to comfort those who are “disturbed”. It is the weapon that I can use both to talk with myself and with others.

Eventually, my art wants to be a call to reflection.

Painting, music and modeling: how can you match all of your passions and professions?

Organization is the key to success. We need to be aware that we are just passing through and, for me, being organized in order to maximize time is a priority. All of my activities contribute in helping me to cultivate my open mind that wouldn’t be possible without dedication, effort and most of all organization. Being aware (and methodic) of the time we have at our disposal is the key to reach the various goals that we want to achieve in this life.

Is there an artist or a public figure you are inspired by?

There are plenty of them. After creating the basis for studying history for decades, today I am still focusing on research and on studying my own soul.

You draw from the past the inspiration for your works, but your art is strongly digital, as it is to say, projected towards the future. Can you explain the reasons behind this choice?

My art is not solely digital. On the contrary, it is always born by way of analogy and at the moment it will keep going like this.

From Madrid, your hometown, to Milan and then Paris, London and New York: which is the place that you find more stimulating and why did you decide to stay in Italy?

The world is a village. These big cities represent a great cultural offer and not only. However, for me, at the moment Italy is the most stimulating place and the most beautiful in the world. I 19

alla ricerca delle basi artistiche, linguistiche, sociali, culturali e rinascimentali. Partendo da queste sto costruendo una solidità professionale che spero possa essere utile come eredità per la mia famiglia e le future generazioni. La sintonia che sento con questo paese e quello che porta alla mia persona è al momento più elevata rispetto ad altre città. Sento e so di essere anche italiano.

decided to start looking for the artistic, linguistic, social, cultural and renaissance principles. Starting from these I am building a professional solidity that I hope will be useful as an inheritance for my family and future generations. The connection I feel with this country and what it brings to my person is at the moment higher than in other cities. I feel and know I’m also Italian.

Sei cresciuto a pane e cultura, in un contesto familiare eclettico.

In che modo questo ha influenzato il tuo percorso?

Senz’altro questo ha segnato la mia persona in ambito psicologico, artistico, umanistico e culturale in maniera esponenziale fino alla adolescenza, con i suoi pro e contro. Da quel momento in poi la scelta di intraprendere la mia strada ha determinato il luogo e la posizione in cui mi trovo oggi. Sono grato, molto grato per aver ricevuto dei valori che ritengo siano fondamentali, ma credo si debba anche avere il coraggio e l’autocritica per continuare a crescere non fermandosi agli insegnamenti del passato.

You grow up on bread and culture, in an eclectic family context.

How did this influence your journey?

Incontestably, this has marked me in the psychological, artistic, humanistic and cultural fields exponentially until adolescence, with its pros and cons. From that moment on, the choice to go my own way determined the place and the position I am in today. I am grateful, very grateful for having received values that I believe are fundamental, but I also believe that we must have the courage and self-criticism to continue to grow by not stopping at the lessons of the past.

Sei poliedrico e sfaccettato, ci sono altri ambiti che vorresti esplorare?

L’ambito culturale in tutte le sue forme. Diciamo che sono e sarò impegnato in questo macro settore. Sto già lavorando per applicare in maniera riconoscibile le mie idee all’interno del mondo della moda e del design, ad esempio.

You are versatile and multifaceted, there are other areas you would like to explore?

The cultural field in each of its forms. Let’s say that I am and I will continue being engaged in this macro industry. I’m already working on recognizably applying my ideas to the fashion and design world, for example.

L’opera e la canzone a cui sei più affezionato?

Ce ne sono tantissime ma ad oggi direi Gallina est Gallus (Joaquin Morodo 2022, copertina di questo numero) e I don’t believe in you (The Glaze Friendz).

Is there a piece or a song you’re more fond of?

There are plenty, but until today I would say Gallina est Gallus (Joaquin Morodo 2022, cover of this edition) and I don’t believe in you (The Glaze Friendz).

Raccontaci un tuo sogno nel cassetto e un progetto che vorresti concretizzare in futuro…

Voltaire disse una volta: “La politica è il mezzo che hanno gli uomini senza valore per comandare gli uomini senza memoria”.

Vorrei partecipare alla costruzione di almeno un ospedale e una università per dare un contributo rilevante alla memoria e al progresso dell’umanità.

Could you tell us one of your secret wishes and a project that you would like to realize in the future?

Voltaire once said ‘Politics is the means that worthless men have to command men without memory’.

I would like to be a part of the building of at least one hospital and one university in order to give a relevant contribution to the memory and progress of mankind.

Un insegnamento di cui fai tesoro per la vita e per la carriera artistica?

Alzarsi e non mollare.

A lesson that you treasure for life and for the rest of your artistic career?

Get up and don’t give up.

Qual è il concept dell’opera che hai realizzato per la copertina di questo numero?

Come sempre per “parlare” utilizzo il simbolismo.

Da Vinci scrisse: “L’allegrezza è appropriata al gallo, che d’ogni piccola cosa si rallegra e canta con vari e scherzanti movimenti”.

Il gallo rappresenta in sé la gioia, la certezza della luce, il desiderio di essere attivi, l’annuncio del sole che sale da Oriente. La Rinascita di un Nuovo Giorno. Si dice che quando il gallo canta all’alba allontani gli spiriti maligni. Anche se non canta solo all’alba ma durante tutto l’arco del giorno, la principale funzione del suo canto è quella di dichiarare la propria presenza e affermare la proprio supremazia sul suo territorio e sulle galline. Nell’opera ci sono, come al solito, elementi e spiegazioni discretamente mimetizzate. Musica da osservare. L’opera fa un riferimento diretto alla trasformazione e gioca implicitamente ed esplicitamente con la dualità e con il raggiungimento degli obiettivi.

God Save The Glaze

What’s the concept of the piece of art you realized for the cover of this edition?

As always, to “speak” I always use symbolism.

Da Vinci wrote ‘The joy is appropriate to the cock, that of every little thing rejoices and sings with various and joking movements’.

The cock symbolizes joy itself, the certainty of light, the desire of being active, the announcement of the sun rising from the East.

The rebirth of a New Day. People say that when the cock sings at dawn, it banishes evil spirits. Even if it doesn’t sing only at dawn but throughout the whole day, its singing primarily function is to affirm its presence and its supremacy over the territory and over the hens. In the piece there are, as always, elements and explanations discreetly camouflaged. Music that needs to be observed. The piece makes a direct reference to transformation and implicitly and explicitly plays with duality and the achievement of goals.

God Save The Glaze

“The Glaze” sembra un motto ricorrente, anche nel tuo progetto musicale. Raccontaci meglio del tuo rapporto con la musica…

La musica è la mia vita, le mie giornate, i miei pensieri. Non posso concepire di vivere, crescere e creare senza di lei. È una compagna inseparabile. Tutte le mie collezioni sono legate a dischi e canzoni create da me e dalla mia band The Glaze Friendz, composta anche dal giovane e brillante Andrea Cuoco, aka Kid Riff. Ma The Glaze Friendz è più di una band. È un’espressione artistica integrale, una filosofia di vita, è talento libero, inarrestabile, romantico e irriverente.

“The Glaze” sounds like a recurring motto, even in your musical project. Tell us more about your relationship with music…

Music is my life, my days, my thoughts. I cannot conceive of living, growing and creating without it. It is an inseparable confidant. All my collections are related to records and songs created by my band and me “The Glaze Friendz”, also composed by the young and brilliant Andrea Cuoco, aka Kid Riff. But The Glaze Friendz is more than a band. It is an integral artistic expression, a philosophy of life, a free, unstoppable, romantic and irreverent talent.

Ti è piaciuta?

Decisamente! È la prima volta che vengo a Verona in tutta la mia vita ed è un grande onore per me essere qui. Conosco la storia di Romeo e Giulietta ma non avevo idea di dove fosse ambientata, così ho fatto un piccolo tour e mi è parso davvero incredibile. Non è neppure immaginabile che qualcosa del genere possa esistere.

Tutto così tranquillo e piacevole che viene voglia di passarci più tempo. In realtà l’Italia intera mi trasmette questa sensazione, ci sono così tanti posti che non si conoscono nemmeno ma che avranno sicuramente qualcosa di bellissimo da offrire.

Did you like it?

Definitely! It is the first time I have come to Verona in my life, and it is a great honor for me to be here. I know the story of Romeo and Juliet but I had no idea where it was set, so I did a little tour and it felt really amazing. It’s not even imaginable that something like this exists. All so quiet and pleasant, that you want to spend more time in here. Actually, Italy in general gives me this feeling. There are so many places that you don’t even know but that will certainly have something beautiful to offer you.

hierry Guetta, aka Mr. Brainwash - colui che molti pensano essere Banksy in seguito al successo del documentario “Exit through the gift shop” candidato agli Oscar nel 2011 -, è un fiume in piena. Di una rara, autentica e vibrante energia che esprime a suon di sorrisi e tramite un’iconica poetica dei buoni sentimenti che non teme i superlativi assoluti.

Una di quelle persone “normali” - come più volte ci tiene a precisarmi con enfasi - in grado di trasmettere una potente quiete, la stessa che dice di percepire per le strade di Verona, alle cui porte realizza una delle sue prime opere europee: la facciata del Muraless Art HoteI. Il nostro incontro avviene proprio all’interno di questa struttura ricettiva che si presenta come un museo vivente di arte urbana grazie alle sue 94 stanze tematiche firmate da cinquanta street artist di fama internazionale. Ha appena concluso una visita della città ed è entusiasta.

hierry Guetta, aka Mr. Brainwash – tho one who many believe to be Banksy, after the success of the documentary “Exit through the gift shop”, Oscars candidate in 2011- is like a river in flood. Of a rare, authentic and vibrant energy that expresses, through smiles and an iconic poetic, good feelings that don’t fear the superlatives absolute.

One of those “normal” people - as he often points out to me with emphasis - able to convey a powerful tranquillity, the same that he says he perceives in the streets of Verona, at whose doors he realized one of his first European works: the facade of the Muraless Art Hotel. Our meeting takes place right inside this accommodation facility, that presents itself as a living museum of urban art thanks to its 94 thematic rooms, signed by fifty internationally renowned street artists. He has just finished visiting the city and he is thrilled.

Come il muraless art hotel…potremmo reputarlo una vera e propria opera site specific?

Sì assolutamente e riunire così tanti artisti diversi ma tutti accomunati da un “unico amore” è già di per sé una grande opera d’arte. È questo il vero potere dell’arte, la connessione tra le persone, che diventa anche collaborazione. Quando ho saputo che sarebbero stati coinvolti circa 50 artisti italiani che avrebbero lavorato assieme per realizzare le stanze dell’hotel, ho pensato subito che fosse un’idea meravigliosa ed è proprio per questo che ho accettato di prenderne parte. Anche se tutti loro sono dentro e io, l’unico straniero, sono all’esterno. Mi hanno lasciato fuori! (ride). Ad ogni modo, mi piace essere coinvolto in progetti in cui le persone fanno quello che amano, portando la propria diversità in un lavoro collettivo, aiutandosi reciprocamente per rendere il mondo migliore. È un concetto grandioso!

As the muraless art hotel… could we consider it a real sitespecific work of art?

Yes, absolutely. And bringing together so many different artists, but all united by “one love”, is already a great work of art itself.

This is the true power of art, the connection between people, which also becomes collaboration. When I heard that about 50 Italian artists would be involved to work together to create the hotel rooms, I immediately thought it was a wonderful idea, and that’s why I agreed to be a part of it. Even though all of them are inside and I, the only stranger, am outside. They left me out! (laughs). Anyway, I like being involved in projects where people do what they love to do, bringing their diversity into a collective work, helping each other to make the world a better place. It’s a great concept!

La street art è un linguaggio universale che non conosce confini geografici, ma da los angeles, dove vivi e lavori da tempo, alla campagna di verona c’è una notevole differenza. Hai dovuto adattare la tua arte ad un contesto così diverso?

No, ho seguito il mio istinto. Non si può mai sapere dove e cosa succederà. Dopo l’incontro con l’Art Advisor del progetto, Luigi Leardini, ho semplicemente pensato di realizzare qualcosa con il cuore, aprendolo per questo progetto e spero che questo venga percepito. In generale, cerco di fare tutto quello che posso per dare e trasmettere energia agli altri. Anche senza sapere di preciso come e perché, ma solo canalizzando questa forza attraverso l’arte. Venire qua di persona e vedere il risultato finale, scoprire cioè come questa energia si sia riversata sui muri, è incredibile, non trovi? L’arte è amore e libertà d’espressione ed è qualcosa di bellissimo. Proprio come è bellissima Verona.

Street art is an universal language that doesn’t know geographical boundaries. But from los angeles, where you live and work, to the countryside of verona there’s a big difference.

Did you have to adapt your art to a context that is so different?

No, I followed my instincts. You never know where and what will happen. After meeting with the Art Advisor of the project, Luigi Leardini, I simply thought of making something with my own heart, opening it for this project, and I hope that this will be perceived. In general, I try to do everything I can to give and transmit energy to other people. Even without knowing exactly how and why, but only channeling this force through art. Coming here in person and seeing the end result, finding out how this energy poured on the walls, it’s incredible, isn’t it? Art is love and freedom of expression, and it is something beautiful. Just like Verona.

QUINDI NON SOLO “MILAN IS BEAUTIFUL” (prima personale italiana organizzata nel 2019 ndr) Certo che no, anche Verona is beautiful. In realtà la bellezza è ovunque! Perché alla fine, la vita in sè è bellissima.

SO, NOT ONLY “MILAN IS BEAUTIFUL”? (first italian solo show, organized in 2019) Of course not, Verona is also beautiful. Being honest, beauty is everywhere! Because in the end, life itself is beautiful.

A proposito di “life is beautiful”, i buoni sentimenti sono il leitmotiv della tua arte…

Non si tratta solo di arte, è uno stile di vita. Focalizzandoci sull’amore e sulla positività non possiamo di certo sbagliare. Per me ogni nuovo giorno è come una nuova vita che inizia, ed è proprio questo che lo rende bellissimo. Anche dietro le cose negative si nasconde un lato positivo ed è quello che mi sforzo sempre di fare, guardare oltre per trovare il buono in ogni situazione.

Sono un grande sognatore e faccio accadere nella mia mente tutto quello che desidero, ma più il tempo passa più mi rendo conto che tutti i miei sogni diventano reali per davvero. Dobbiamo continuare a sognare perché ciò che desideriamo può diventare realtà ed è proprio quello che sta succedendo a me! Bisogna crederci sul serio, perché tutto è possibile.

Speaking of “life is beautiful,” good feelings are the leitmotif of your art...

It’s not just about art, it’s more like a lifestyle. By focusing on love and positivity, we can’t go wrong. For me every new day is like a new life starting, and that’s what makes it beautiful. Even behind negative things hides a positive side, and that’s what I always aim to do, look beyond to find the good in every situation.

I am a great dreamer, and I make everything I want happen in my mind. But the more time passes, the more I realize that all my dreams become real. We have to keep dreaming, because what we desire can come true and that’s what is happening to me! You have to believe it, because anything is possible.

Quindi è un “lavaggio del cervello” in chiave positiva quello che vuoi proporci? In che modo il tuo pseudonimo si lega alle tue opere?

C’è stata un’epoca in cui l’arte era troppo seria e in quel momento poteva andare bene così, ma sento che ora le persone, i bambini, tutti quanti, necessitano di messaggi positivi. Non mi reputo un filosofo dell’arte, sono una persona normale, faccio semplicemente quello che amo e amo quello che faccio. Ma voglio essere il vostro brainwash. Qualunque cosa possa “lavarvi il cervello” io la farò.

So, is it a “brain wash”, in a positive key, that you want to offer us?

There was a time when art was too serious, and at that time it could work, but I feel that now people, children, everyone, need positive messages to go on and know that everything will be fine, to perceive good vibrations, just like those that transmit colors or phrases such as “Never Give Up”, “Love Is The Answer”, “Life Is Beautiful”, “Follow Your Dreams”. I don’t consider myself an art philosopher, I’m a normal person, I just do what I love and I love what I’m doing. But I want to be your Brainwash. Anything that can “wash your brains”, I will do.

Messaggi, o meglio, icone, che ricorrono anche sulla facciata di questo hotel…

Sì, perché sono parte della mia arte. Che caratterizzino la facciata di un hotel, i muri per la strada o altri luoghi non fa differenza. Sono soggetti noti a tutti voi, in tutto il mondo, iconici e rappresentativi di quello che faccio.

Messages, or rather, icons, that recur even on the facade of this hotel...

Yes, because they are part of my art. Whether they characterize the facade of a hotel, the walls on the street or other places, it makes no difference. They are subjects known to all of you, all over the world, iconic and representative of what I do.

E se altri volessero “sporcarla”? Potremmo pensarla come un’opera “aperta”?

Non sono geloso del mio lavoro. L’opera è all’esterno, le persone possono fare quello che vogliono. Se qualcuno volesse disegnarci sopra qualcosa di intelligente, potrei trovarlo bello. D’altronde è una metafora di vita: le cose cambiano di continuo, a volte anche in meglio.

And if others wanted to “dirty it”? Could we think of it as an “open” work?

I’m not jealous of my work. The piece is on the outside, and people can do whatever they want. If someone wanted to draw something clever on it, I might even find it beautiful. On the other hand, it is a metaphor for life: things are constantly changing, sometimes for the better.

Street art fuori, uno stile piu’ luxury dentro: non è una contraddizione?

No, alla fine sempre di arte si tratta. C’è arte fuori e arte dentro, arte sul soffitto, arte sui muri, arte persino sul pavimento. È arte, punto. Non ci deve interessare dov’è o in quale veste si presenta.

L’arte è arte, non possiamo inscatolarla. È libertà e la libertà può trovarsi ovunque. In un museo, nella casa di qualcuno, nella metro, in un bus, per strada. Non potremo mai dire che dovrebbe stare in un posto piuttosto che in un altro, o in che modo dovrebbe starci.

L’arte, in tutte le sue forme, non conosce regole.

Street art outside, a more luxury style inside: isn’t it a contradiction?

No, at the end of the day it’s always art we are talking abbout.

There’s art outside and art inside, art on the ceiling, art on the walls, art even on the floors. It’s art, period. Art is art, we can’t box it. It’s freedom, and freedom can be anywhere: in a museum, in someone’s house, in the subway, in a bus, on the street. We can never say that it should be in one place rather than another, or how it should be there. Art, in all its forms, knows no rules.

Tanto da evolversi in continuazione…per la tua street art, ad esempio, quale futuro intravedi?

La strada è il naturale percorso di questa corrente artistica. È aperta a tutti ed è questo il suo bello. Non c’è una galleria o qualcuno che dovrà approvare quello che fai ogni volta che ti svegli, puoi fare quello che vuoi. Ma per quanto mi riguarda, la mia arte evolve, appunto, e va ovunque. Ho aperto un museo a Los Angeles, precisamente a Beverly Hills. Sono uno dei primi artisti ad aprirne uno proprio. Non voglio più essere soltanto e necessariamente “sulla strada” ma anche in altri luoghi. La “street”, comunque, rimarrà sempre una parte del mio amore.

So Much That It’s Constantly Evolving... For Your Street Art, For Example, What Future Do You See? The road is the natural path of this artistic current. It is open to everyone, and this is its beauty. There is no gallery or someone who will have to approve what you do every time you wake up.

You can do whatever you want. But as for me, my art evolves, and goes everywhere. I opened a museum in Los Angeles, precisely in Beverly Hills. I am one of the first artists to open one of their own. I don’t want to be alone and necessarily “on the streets” anymore, but also in other places. The “street”, however, will always remain a part of my essence.

Con il mercato dell’arte che rapporto hai?

Non mi interessa. È vero, esiste un mercato come esiste un business, ma non mi importa. Nel corso degli anni ho raccolto molti fondi, milioni di dollari, che sono serviti per aiutare circa cinquanta o sessanta associazioni. Ciò che trovo veramente importante è continuare a fare quello che amo e raccogliere altrettanto per aiutare ancora. È la motivazione che mi fa alzare la mattina, quella che mi fa proseguire. Non intendo smettere di crescere, proprio perché più aiuto e più vorrei aiutare. Non mi fermerò mai.

What is your relationship with the art market?

I don’t care. Truth is that there is a market, as there is a business, but I don’t care. Over the years, I have raised many funds, millions of dollars, which have served to help about fifty or sixty associations. What I really find important, is to keep doing what I love and collect as much to help again. It’s the motivation that wakes me up in the morning, that keeps me going. I’m not going to stop growing, because more I help the more I want to keep doing it. I’ll never stop. I don’t care.

C’è un’opera a cui sei particolarmente affezionato?

Quella che non ho ancora realizzato. È senza dubbio la mia preferita. In generale, non mi sento affezionato a qualche opera in particolare, penso che facciano tutte parte del puzzle della mia vita. Probabilmente se mi rifacessi questa domanda in futuro, all’età di 95 anni, potrei essere in grado di risponderti ma per il momento penso ai miei lavori come un genitore pensa ai propri figli: li amo tutti.

Is there a work you are particularly fond of?

The one I haven’t realized yet. It’s definitely my favorite. In general, I don’t feel attached to any particular work, I think they are all part of the puzzle of my life. Probably if you ask me this question in the future, at the age of 95, I might be able to answer you, but for now I think about my jobs as a parent thinks about their children: I love them all.

Da obama al papa, che peraltro consideri un tuo grande amico, cosa ti piace o trovi d’ispirazione in questi personaggi?

Che sono persone normali. Persone che riescono a vederti dentro, capire chi sei veramente. Persone con cui si instaura immediatamente un contatto visivo, una sintonia. Proprio come è accaduto con il Papa già durante il nostro primo incontro. In quella occasione gli consegnai una scultura “Life is beautiful” tenendo in mano una bomboletta spray con su scritto “Pope” e scattai una foto: c’era l’arte e c’era il Papa…insomma una vera Pope Art! Prima di incontrarlo per la seconda volta, dissi che a quel punto avrei voluto dipingere assieme a lui. Mi hanno tutti chiesto se fossi matto, ma nella vita non otterrai mai nulla se non chiedi, e infatti il Papa accettò. Comprammo tutto l’occorrente ma alla fine lui preferì dipingere direttamente sul retro della mia giacca, fece una sorta di croce antica. La terza volta mi sono presentato con un plexiglass e gli ho chiesto se potesse disegnarmi un corazón. Gli ho dato il pennello ed è stato divertente, mi ha stupito perché di solito quando realizzo un cuore lo faccio in due tratti distinti, mentre lui partendo da un lato lo ha disegnato in un unico tratto. In un colpo solo ha fatto uno splendido Pope-heart!

Ma negli anni mi è capitato di collaborare con tantissime personalità, da Madonna al Dalai Lama, da Jay-Z a Rihanna, arrivando ad un punto in cui ho compreso che sono semplicemente persone, proprio come tutti noi. Mi sono anche chiesto come abbia fatto ad incontrare così tanti personaggi e coinvolgere così tanta gente con il mio lavoro. Credo che la spiegazione stia nel fatto che rimango sempre me stesso.

From obama to the pope, who, moreover, you consider a great friend of yours, what do you like or do you find inspiration in these characters?

That they are normal people. People who can see inside you, understand who you really are. People with whom you can immediately establish a visual contact, a harmony. Just as it happened with the Pope already during our first encounter.

On that occasion, I gave him a sculpture “Life is beautiful”, holding a spray can with “Pope” wrote on it, and I took a photo: there was art and there was the Pope... In short, a real Pope Art! Before meeting him for the second time, I said that at that point I wanted to paint with him. They all asked me if I was insane, but in life you will never get anything if you do not ask, and in fact the Pope accepted. We bought everything we needed, but in the end he preferred to paint directly on the back of my jacket, making a kind of ancient cross. The third time, I showed up with a plexiglass and asked him if he could draw me a corazón. I gave him the brush and it was fun. It amazed me, because usually, when I make a heart, I do it in two distinct strokes, while he drew it starting from one side in only one stroke. In one fell swoop, he made a gorgeous Pope-heart!

But, over the years I’ve been collaborating with a lot of people, from Madonna to the Dalai Lama, from Jay-Z to Rihanna, getting to a point where I realized that they’re just normal people, just like all of us.

I also wondered how did I magaged to meet so many characters and involve so many people with my work. I guess the reason is that I’m still myself.

And banksy, what does he mean to you?

What did you say? Who? What?

BANKSY… La banca? Ah, la banca, sì. La banca applaude!

Una nuova struttura ricettiva nata nel circondario di Verona dal sogno di Gianmaria Villa di ridare vita all’ex Hotel Cristallo.

Un intervento che ha avviato una radicale riqualificazione nel segno del linguaggio e dei caratteri espressivi dell’Arte, per esaltare l’eccellenza italiana. Grazie all’amicizia con l’Art Advisor Luigi Leardini si è intrapreso un percorso che ha portato allo studio e allo sviluppo del nuovo concept hotel. Un viaggio tra strumenti e tecniche creative (dall’areosol art allo stencil, dal paste up alla pittura a mano libera), tra stili e forme espressive (dal lettering al modelling 3D, dalla grafica alla fotografia digitale, dal fumetto all’illustrazione), tra linguaggi e codici moderni (dal figurativo all’astratto, dall’iperrealismo fino all’anamorfosi).

Protagonisti di questa genesi, sono writer di fama internazionale, chiamati a interpretare con il loro estro creativo, le eccellenze che il Bel Paese vanta nei settori più svariati. Con questo approccio l’hotel, il cui nome evidenzia l’assenza di confini nel linguaggio dell’arte, punta ad essere un quadro senza cornici, un contenitore leggero e trasparente e al contempo potente ed esplosivo del genio italiano a più livelli.

mong 94 tematic rooms, Muraless Art Hotel celebrates the Italian genius and excellence in every sector: wine, opera, cinema, vehicles, art, architecture, design, history, science, food, fashion and music.

A brand new accommodation facility born in the district of Verona from Gianmaria Villa’s dream to make a revival of the former Hotel Cristallo. An intervention that has inducted a radical upgrading in the field of language and of Art expressive characters, to enhance Italian excellence. Thanks to his friendship with Luigi Leandrini, an art advisor, it was possible to undertake a journey that led to studying and developing a new concept for the hotel. From the common areas to the rooms, the structure accompanies the guest in a very personal journey between fantasy and reality. His career exploded thanks to the participation in Banksy’s famous documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” where he followed, with the camera, the adventures of the most famous street artists in the world. His works are imbued with references to Pop Art, to the history of art and also to the works of others artists. rancesco Panella, imprenditore, scrittore, comunicatore, erede di quelle quattro generazioni che a Trastevere, con il ristorante Antica Pesa, mettono in mostra da oltre un secolo la vera tradizione romana. Francesco insieme ai suoi fratelli ha reso omaggio alla grigia e alla amatriciana all around the world, da New York e Doha. Con il programma Little big Italy ha dimostrato che si può mangiare bene italiano anche in giro per il mondo. Abbiamo parlato con estremo piacere e simpatia, approfondendo storie, aneddoti ed esperienze, fuori e dentro le cucine.

Imprenditore, personaggio televisivo, scritture, consulente. Come si potrebbe sintetizzare Francesco Panella in poche parole?

Appassionato della vita, in cerca sempre di nuovi spunti. Mi piace svegliarmi ogni mattina col sorriso cercando di riempirmi di cose belle.

Come è nata la scelta degli Stati Uniti?

Gli Stati Uniti mi hanno stimolato perché a Roma ho avuto modo di conoscere tantissime persone americane che son venute nei nostri ristoranti. Mi è piaciuto il loro modo di confrontarsi e il loro punto di vista sulla vita. Per me è stato quasi normale cercare di capire cosa accadesse dall’altra parte del mondo.

Esiste ancora il sogno americano?

Per come lo si intendeva una volta non esiste più. L’accesso al credito molto facile per le nuove generazioni, la globalizzazione, la velocizzazione delle informazioni, fa sì che ogni persona, in ogni luogo del mondo possa trovare la sua idea e la propria forma di auto- prodursi. Gli Stati Uniti sono ancora una terra che dà tantissimi aiuti, anche a livello di motivazioni, ma ormai “l’America” si può trovare ovunque.

Gli statunitensi non sono conosciuti per essere dei grandi chef.

Attraverso i tuoi libri istruisci gli americani alla cucina?

Con semplicità e passione cerchiamo di trasmettere le caratteristiche della cucina italiana, quelle della famiglia, della convivialità, del sedersi intorno a un tavolo e parlare di quello che mangiamo, della verdura, del minestrone, di una ricetta. rancesco Panella, businessman, writer, communicator, heir of that four generations who in Trastevere, with the restaurant Antica Pesa, showed from more than a century the real roman tradition. With his brothers, Francesco paid tribute to the Gricia and Amatriciana all around the world, from New York to Doha.

Using the tv program Little Big Italy, he showed that it is possible to eat tasty Italian food worldwide. We talked with him with extreme pleasure and affinity, delving into stories, anecdotes and experiences, both inside and outside the kitchen.

Business man, television personality, writer and consultant. How could Francesco Panella be described in a nutshell?

Passionate about life, always looking for new starting points. Every morning I like to wake up with a smile, trying to surround myself with beautiful things.

How was the idea of the United States conceived?

The United States inspired me because in Rome I had the opportunity to meet numerous American people that used to come to our restaurants. I really liked their way of confronting themselves and their point of view on life. For me, it became almost natural trying to figure out what was going on on the other side of the world.

Is the “American dream” still a real thing?

As it was contemplated in the past, it does not exist anymore. Presently, access to credit is extremely simple for new generations. Globalization, the speeding up of diffusion of information, makes it possible for anyone, on any side of the world to be in the position to find their own ideas, their own way to success and their own self-producing method.

American people are not famous for being excellent chefs. Through your books, do you teach them how to properly cook?

We attempt to pass down with passion and simplicity all of the characteristics of Italian cuisine, family, conviviality, of sitting together at the table talking about what we are eating, of vegetables, of mistestrone, of a recipe. Instead, Americans use lunch and dinner time as an excuse for catalyzing their limited time to talk about work. The competitiveness is monstrous, there is no such family value as us Italians have.

Quando vengono in Italia non ordinano piatti come gli spaghetti Alfredo o la pizza con l’ananas, ma si godono la nostra vera cucina proprio allo stesso modo in cui lo facciamo noi.

What is something that has surprised you about Americans abroad?

Whenever they come to Italy, they do not order Spaghetti Alfredo or pineapple on pizza. Instead, they enjoy our real cuisine in the same way Italians do.

Un vip e il suo piatto preferito del tuo menù?

Il risotto con i funghi di Richard Gere, ma anche gli spaghetti cacio e pepe di Madonna.

Could you name a VIP and their favorite dish on your menu?

Richard Gere’s risotto ai funghi and Madonna’s spaghetti cacio e pepe.

Negli Stati Uniti riporti la stessa cucina dell’Antica Pesa?

La cucina è la stessa, le nostre ricette vanno incontro alla stagionalità, quello che la natura ci offre facciamo. Quindi se a New York troviamo un prodotto diverso rispetto a Roma, alcune ricette le adattiamo di conseguenza.

In the United States, do you reproduce the same cuisine of the Antica Pesa?

The cuisine is always the same, our recipes vary with seasons. What nature offers us, we use it. For this reason, if in New York we find a product that is different from what we find in Rome, we readapt some recipes.

Cosa ci dice riguardo la scelta di fondare l’Antica Pesa Doha, che ha vinto anche il Food&Travel Arabia Gcc Award come miglior ristorante italiano del Qatar? È stato un bellissimo percorso durato 5 anni, poi ho dato spazio ad altre priorità. Il mio percorso era finito quando ho capito che il mio staff non era più felice di viverci, siamo molto distanti e diversi culturalmente la qualità della vita non era più ottimale.

What can you tell us about the choice of founding the Antica Pesa Doha, winner of the Food&Travel Arabia Gcc Award as best italian restaurant in Qatar?

It has been an incredible experience, lasted 5 years but then I focused on other priorities. I realized that my journey had come to an end when I figured out that my staff was not enthusiastic anymore. We are very culturally different and the life tenor was no longer optimal.

C’è qualche ingrediente che fin da un secolo fa non è mai mancato?

Cacio e pepe, immancabili dall’apertura fino a oggi.

Are there some ingredients that have been a must since centuries?

Cacio e pepe, ever-present from the opening until now.

Qual è la particolarità del vostro cacio e pepe?

Sempre la ricerca dell’ingrediente, che per noi è tutto. Andiamo a studiare i pecorini nei caseifici, prestiamo grande attenzione anche alla scelta del pepe. Non lasciamo nulla al caso.

What is the peculiarity of your Cacio e Pepe?

The search for the right ingredient is always everything for us. We go study pecorino in cheese factories, paying a lot of attention also in choosing pepper. Nothing is left to chance.

Per il pubblico è evidentemente un piacere seguire Little Big Italy ma per te, dopo sei edizioni, come descriveresti questo programma?

Un modo per raccontare viaggiando una parte dell’Italia che non tutti conoscono. Un viaggio di sapori e passioni, un diverso modo di comunicare il nostro Paese all’estero.. Il fulcro è il viaggio, ma anche i sentimenti, che fuoriescono dalle interviste con gli expat, ma soprattutto con queste famiglie pazzesche che si sono trasferite e che vogliono rappresentare l’Italia fuori dall’Italia.

For the audience watching Little Big Italy on tv is indeed a pleasure.

But, how would you describe it after six editions?

I would describe it as a way of telling while traveling a side of Italy that is not that known. A journey made of flavors and passions, an unique way of displaying our country abroad. The journey is the fulcrum, but also the feelings leaking from interviews with expats, but above all, interviews with families that moved in America and are now willing to represent Italy outside of Italy.

Qual è la cosa peggiore in assoluto che hai assaggiato in un ristorante italiano all’estero?

Purtroppo i piatti tipici come le lasagne. gli spaghetti, la pizza. Si vedono lasagne con mille strati, ognuno con la panna al posto della besciamella.

Negli spaghetti spesso viene messo talmente tanto aglio che non si sente più nemmeno il vero sapore del pomodoro. Nella pizza manca la perfezione dei nostri impasti, la grande ricerca che i pizzaioli stanno facendo sulle farine. E quindi spesso è indigeribile.

What is the worst thing ever that you have tasted in an Italian restaurant abroad?

Sadly, traditional dishes such as Lasagna, Spaghetti and Pizza. You can find Lasagne with thousands of layers, each with cream instead of besciamella.

Moreover, Spaghetti is commonly cooked by adding so much garlic that you can’t even taste the tomatoes. For what concerns Pizza, the perfection of our doughs is what is missing and also the enormous research that pizzaioli are making on flours. For these reasons, the pizza here is usually indigestible.

E allora ce la dai tu una ricetta tipicamente italiana, anzi, autenticamente romana?

Francesco Pannella

Schiaffoni all’Amatriciana Orgoglio gastronomico di Amatrice, le cui campagne fornivano il pecorino e il guanciale, questo piatto, modificato sin troppo nel corso degli anni, si è affermato entro le mura di Roma grazie ai tanti cuochi amatriciani che la abitavano e ha finito per diventare un simbolo della cucina romanesca. È un diretto discendente della Gricia, alla quale vengono aggiunti il pomodoro e il peperoncino, elementi che diventano comuni sulle tavole popolari solo molto tempo dopo la scoperta delle Americhe.

Gastronomic pride of Amatrice, whose countryside used to offer pecorino cheese and guanciale, this dish, extremely modified over the years, established itself within Roma walls thanks to several amatrician cookers that used to inhabit it and ended up becoming an emblem of Roman cuisine.

It is a direct descendant of the Gricia, to which tomato and chilli are added, elements that become commonplace on popular tables only long after the discovery of the Americas.

Ingredienti 600 g di pomodori pelati 200 g di guanciale 25 cl di vino bianco 150 g di pecorino grattugiato 500 g di pasta (schiaffoni) pepe nero q.b.

Ingredients peeled tomatoes 600g guanciale 200g white wine 25cl grated pecorino cheese 150g pasta (schiaffoni) 500g black pepper (as much as you want)

Procedimento Passate i pomodori pelati e lasciateli da parte. In una padella rosolate lentamente il guanciale tagliato a listarelle, avendo cura di mescolarlo spesso per ottenere una doratura uniforme.

Appena sarà dorato (mediamente dopo circa 5 minuti di cottura), togliete dalla padella la metà del guanciale e tenetela da parte, poi aggiungete a ciò che resta un pizzico di pepe nero e sfumate con il vino bianco. Appena il vino sarà evaporato, versate in padella anche la passata di pomodori e lasciate andare a fuoco lento per 20 minuti circa, finché la salsa non sarà abbastanza tirata. A quel punto aggiustate eventualmente il sale (considerando che va aggiunto il pecorino) e il pepe nero.

Nel frattempo, lessate la pasta in acqua bollente, scolatela un minuto o due prima che sia al dente e mettetela nella padella con la salsa. Lasciate legare per un minuto circa, poi spegnete il fuoco e aggiungete il pecorino, mantecando per qualche secondo.

Method Mash the peeled tomatoes and leave them aside. In a pan, gently sauté the guanciale cut into tiny strips minding to mix it constantly in order to obtain a uniform browning. As soon as browned (at least after 5 minutes), remove half of the cooked guanciale from the pan and set it aside. Then, add a pinch of black pepper and deglaze with white wine. As soon as the wine evaporates, pour in the same pan the mashed tomatoes and let it simmer for 20 minutes, until you have a thick sauce.

After that, adjust with salt (keeping in mind that pecorino still needs to be added) and black pepper.

In the meantime, boil the pasta in hot water, drain it one to two minutes earlier before it becomes al dente and put the pasta in the pan with the sauce. Let it sit for a minute or less, then turn off the stove and add pecorino cheese, creaming it for some seconds.

Cottoaldente was born with the aim of sharing my passion for food and my fitness journey. It all started as a game when a friend of mine asked me to take care of the cooking section of his blog.

You are a true Bolognese. Your favorite place in Bologna to go for a run?

It might sound biased, but for me Bologna is a very nice city and I really like to run in its many parks, such as the Margherita gardens. However, my favorite place to run in Bologna is San Luca because you can admire a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

What are food-fitness circuits and how do they work?

Food and fitness circuits are a typology of training program that combines exercise with nutrition in order to offer a comprehensive approach aiming to improve health and well-being.

For example, a food and fitness circuit could include a high intensity workout, followed by a rich and well-balanced meal to help the body recover from the exertions of exercise and restore the energy needed.

Sei uno degli influencer di food e sport più amati e seguiti sul web come Cottoaldente. Come nasce questa idea?

Cotto al dente è nato con l’obiettivo di condividere la mia passione per il cibo e il mio percorso di fitness. Tutto è cominciato per gioco quando un’amica mi ha chiesto di curare la sezione cucina del suo blog, ma ho presto scoperto di essere così appassionato a questo mondo da voler aprire una pagina tutta mia, in cui condividere le mie ricette preferite e il mio percorso di allenamento.

Sei Bolognese DOC. Il tuo luogo preferito di Bologna dove andare a correre?

Sono di parte, ma per me Bologna è una città molto bella e mi piace molto correre nei suoi numerosi parchi, come ad esempio i giardini Margherita. Tuttavia il mio posto preferito per correre a Bologna è San Luca, da dove si può ammirare una vista panoramica mozzafiato della città.

Cosa sono i circuiti di food-fitness e come si applicano?

I circuiti di cibo e fitness sono un tipo di programma di allenamento che combina l’esercizio fisico con la nutrizione, allo scopo di offrire un approccio completo per migliorare la salute e il benessere.

Ad esempio, un circuito di cibo e fitness potrebbe includere un allenamento ad alta intensità, seguito da un pasto ricco e ben bilanciato per aiutare il corpo a recuperare dalle fatiche dell’esercizio e ripristinare l’energia necessaria.

Bastano davvero 21 giorni per ottenere un corpo tonico e asciutto? Il segreto?

Secondo alcuni studi, il corpo umano richiede circa 21 giorni per abituarsi al cambiamento. È proprio da qui che nasce l’idea di proporre un metodo che aiuti ad adottare uno stile di vita sano attraverso esercizio fisico e una dieta equilibrata per almeno 21 giorni.

Questo periodo è essenziale per abituare il corpo alla nuova routine, ma è altrettanto importante continuare a seguire il programma con costanza anche dopo questi primi 21 giorni.

What is the secret?

According to some studies, the human body takes about 21 days to get used to changes. It is from here that the idea of proposing a method that helps to adopt a healthy lifestyle through exercise and a balanced diet for at least 21 days is born. This period is essential for the body to become accustomed to a brand new routine, but it is equally important to continue to follow the program consistently even after these first 21 days.

In my book “Il Metodo Cotto al Dente”, I suggest three-week programs (plus a maintenance diet) that include exercises and diet customized nutrition plans for beginners, for those who are at an intermediate level and for the most avid sportsperson.

Detailed meal plans for every meal of the day are, moreover, included in the book, from breakfast to dinner, as well as targeted workouts that will lead you to achieve your goals.

Ci insegneresti un trucco per abbandonare le cattive abitudini alimentari e legate alla sedentarietà?

Il consiglio che posso dare è quello di fissarsi obiettivi a breve termine che siano semplici e aiutino a raggiungere un obiettivo più complesso a lungo termine.

Come si fa a trovare la giusta motivazione per svoltare?

Si trova dentro di noi stessi, deve venire dall’interno, da una passione o un’aspirazione che ci spinge a perseguire un obiettivo. Solo se abbiamo una visione chiara del nostro scopo e ci poniamo degli obiettivi realistici e concreti possiamo mantenere alta la motivazione nel lungo termine.

Proponi molto spesso piatti unici. Sono più facili da bilanciare?

Il piatto unico è un’ottima soluzione per garantire un bilanciamento nutrizionale adeguato, poiché consente di combinare verdure, proteine e carboidrati in modo equilibrato. Per seguire la regola del 50-25-25, la metà del piatto (cioè il 50%) dovrebbe essere costituita da ortaggi, verdure e frutta, mentre il 25% deve essere una fonte proteica sana, come legumi, pesce, molluschi, crostacei, latticini poco grassi, uova. Il restante 25% dello spazio dovrebbe essere dedicato ai carboidrati, preferibilmente sotto forma di cereali integrali in chicco, come riso, quinoa, amaranto, farro e orzo, o farine non raffinate o vegetali ad alto contenuto di amido, come patate e manioca. È importante anche includere una fonte di grassi sani per completare il pasto.

Quanti pasti al giorno?

Il numero di pasti consigliato al giorno è tre, ovvero colazione, pranzo e cena, tuttavia è importante non trascurare gli spuntini pre o post allenamento in base alla tipologia e alla quantità di attività svolta durante la giornata. Ovviamente bisogna tenere in considerazione che la quantità di pasti da assumere è una scelta individuale che dipende dalle esigenze personali di ogni persona e dalle proprie abitudini alimentari Qual è il pasto più importante della giornata?

Io sconsiglio di saltare i pasti, saltare i pasti infatti può aumentare l’appetito al pasto successivo. Se si ha poco appetito, mangiare porzioni più piccole a intervalli regolari può aiutare a mantenere stabili i livelli di zucchero nel sangue Quali consigli possiamo trovare nel tuo libro “Il metodo Cotto al dente”?

Una serie di consigli e suggerimenti per una dieta sana ed equilibrata, che combina più di 100 ricette e allenamenti da svolgere per rimanere in forma. Tra i prinicipali consigli vi suggerisco l’importanza di scegliere alimenti naturali e poco trasformati, prediligere cibi vegetali, limitare i grassi saturi e lo zucchero, mangiare con moderazione, fare esercizio fisico regolarmente e mantenere l’idratazione.

Would you teach us a trick to give up bad eating habits and sedentary habits?

My advice would be to set short-term goals that are easier and could help to achieve a more complex long-term objective.

How do you find the right motivation to change?

It is inside ourselves, it must come from within, from a passion or aspiration that pushes us to pursue a goal. Only having a clear vision of our purpose and set realistic and concrete goals we are able to keep being high motivated over the long term.

You often propose single dishes. Are they easier to balance?

Single dishes are a great solution to ensure a proper nutritional balance, since it allows you to combine vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates proportionally.

In order to follow the rule of 50-25-25, half of the meal (that is to say 50%) should consist of greens, vegetables and fruits, while 25% must be a healthy protein source, such as legumes, fish, shellfish, crustaceans, low-fat dairy products, eggs. The remaining 25% of the space should be left to carbohydrates, preferably in the form of whole grain cereals, such as rice, quinoa, amaranth, spelt and barley, or unrefined flours or vegetables high in starch, such as potatoes and cassava. It is also important to include a source of healthy fats to complete your meal.

How many meals a day?

The recommended number of meals per day is three: breakfast, lunch and dinner. However, it is important not to neglect preor post-workout snacks, according to the type and amount of activity done during the day. Obviously we must take into account that the amount of meals to be taken is an individual choice that depends purely on personal needs of each person and their eating habits.

What is the most important meal of the day?

I do not recommend skipping meals. Actually, skipping meals can increase appetite at the next one.

If you happen to have little appetite, eating smaller portions at regular intervals can help to maintain stable blood sugar levels.

What suggestions can we find in your book “Il Metodo Cotto al Dente”?

A series of clues and advice for a healthy and balanced diet, combining more than 100 recipes and workouts to perform so as to stay in shape. Among the main advice I suggest the importance of choosing natural and unprocessed foods, prefer plant foods, limiting saturated fats and sugar, eating in moderation, exercising regularly and maintaining hydration.

Una perfetta colazione prima di un workout mattutino?

La mia preferita in assoluto è quella che preparo per coccolarmi prima di uscire a fare un lungo di corsa (sui 20km): pane integrale ai cereali tostato in padella, burro d’arachidi fatto da me in precedenza (arachidi 100% tostate in forno e frullate), fettine di banana e scaglie di cioccolato. Ti dà una carica super!

A perfect breakfast before a morning workout?

My absolute favorite is the one I prepare to treat myself before going out to make a long run (about 20km): whole grain bread with cereals toasted in a pan, peanut butter made by me previously (100% toasted peanuts in the oven and blended) banana slices and chocolate chips. It gives you a super strong charge!

Would you give a workout dedicated to our readers?

The training that I chose for the readers is a “amrap circuit 5 + 5”, in the first five minutes there are 8 repetitions of these 4 exercises: jumping jack, push up, squat and commando. Che cosa le dà il teatro che il cinema non le dà e viceversa?

Sono tecniche diverse. Il teatro succede esattamente nel momento in cui lo vedi, e ha bisogno di gesti più ampi, di più corpo, il video ha la meravigliosa possibilità del primo piano, di poter comunicare moltissimo facendo pochissimo.

What can theatre give to you that cinema cannot?

Both imply different techniques. Theatre happens in the moment you are watching it, and it needs more sweeping gestures, more body. While cinema offers a close-up and you can communicate doing the bare minimum.

L’Avvocato cassazionista, già procuratore federale interregionale della Figc e da qualche mese membro del Comitato di presidenza della Federazione (l’organo decisionale ristretto del calcio italiano), al suo insediamento disse “Siamo e rimarremo un movimento innovatore, con l’obiettivo di far crescere il calcio puntando su giovani, etica e rispetto”. I risultati, i nuovi e vecchi obiettivi e mire da raggiungere, per un Presidente che mira in alto, in una preziosa intervista a 360 gradi.

had the pleasure of meeting my dear friend Mauro Balata, who was elected President of the Lega Serie B in 2017.

The Cassation lawyer, previously an interregional federal prosecutor of the FIGC and currently a member of the Presidency Committee of the Federation (the restricted decisionmaking body of Italian football), stated at his inauguration, ‘We are and will remain an innovative movement, with the aim of growing football by focusing on youth, ethics, and respect.’ In a comprehensive interview, he discusses the results, new and old objectives, and aspirations of a President aiming high.

Quali erano le urgenze da mettere mano quando venne eletto presidente?

C’era un prodotto da potenziare e portare all’estero creando valore economico da tradurre poi in valore sportivo. Oggi che siamo in cinque continenti diversi e oltre 50 Paesi nel mondo, possiamo ritenerci un soggetto internazionale e ambire a essere il baluardo del calcio nazionale grazie ai tanti calciatori italiani, fra cui moltissimi giovani, che giocano nel nostro campionato, proseguendo così una tradizione che ha creato tanti campioni e altri ne produrrà in futuro. Tutto questo in uno scenario che vede la B, secondo le società internazionali di statistica, il campionato più equilibrato d’Europa e quello con il più alto valore economico, dopo quello inglese, nella classifica delle seconde categorie calcistiche. Di pari passo abbiamo introdotto vari upgrade tecnologici, migliorando l’esperienza televisiva, investendo in tecniche produttive innovative e diversificando l’offerta su diverse piattaforme, rendendo così accessibile il nostro campionato a “tutte le tasche”. Abbiamo infine riportato il torneo al suo format naturale e ideale di partecipanti, eliminando le innaturali storture del passato, figlie di compromessi politici.

Gli stadi in Italia e nel mondo: cosa manca e qual è il futuro?

Uno dei problemi più gravi e urgenti del calcio italiano è la modernizzazione delle infrastrutture che ci dovrebbe consentire di recuperare in maniera sostanziale anche competitività nei confronti di tutti gli altri campionati. Sono diversi i club di B che hanno iniziato il percorso di ristrutturazione o di realizzazione di nuovi stadi come abbiamo potuto verificare durante l’ultimo forum “La nuova legge stadi”, organizzato dalla Lega Serie B a Milano lo scorso marzo. Migliorare le infrastrutture è importante non solo dal punto di vista dell’accoglienza e della sicurezza, ma anche in termini di valori economici per inseguire quell’obiettivo a cui puntiamo, che si chiama sostenibilità.

Senza questa grande sfida per il rinnovamento del patrimonio infrastrutturale, che dobbiamo affrontare tutti insieme, istituzioni pubbliche comprese, diventa impossibile confrontarsi con gli altri competitor internazionali che hanno già avviato da tempo questo percorso.

What were the urgent matters to address when you were elected president?

There was a need to enhance and promote the product abroad, creating economic value that could be translated into sporting value. Today, with our presence in five different continents and over 50 countries worldwide, we can consider ourselves an international entity and aspire to be the stronghold of Italian football, thanks to the many Italian players, including numerous young talents, who play in our league. This continues a tradition that has produced many champions and will produce more in the future. In addition, according to international statistical companies, the Serie B is the most balanced league in Europe and the second most valuable league, after the English league, among the second-tier football divisions. Alongside this, we have introduced various technological upgrades, improving the television experience, investing in innovative production techniques, and diversifying our offerings on different platforms, thus making our league accessible to everyone. Finally, we have brought the tournament back to its natural and ideal format, eliminating the unnatural distortions of the past, which were the result of political compromises.

Stadiums in Italy and the world: what is missing and what does the future hold?

One of the most serious and urgent problems in Italian football is the modernization of infrastructure, which should substantially improve our competitiveness compared to other leagues. Several Serie B clubs have already begun the process of renovating or building new stadiums, as we have seen during the last “La nuova legge stadi” forum organized by the Lega Serie B in Milan last March. Improving infrastructure is important not only in terms of hospitality and safety but also in terms of economic value to pursue our goal of sustainability. Without this significant challenge of renewing our infrastructure, which we must face together, including public institutions, it becomes impossible to compete with other international competitors who have long started this process.

Calcio: solo business puro, o anche “umanità”?

Le società professionistiche di calcio sono vere e proprie aziende che danno lavoro a migliaia di famiglie e creano un indotto importante per le nostre città. Mi piace definirle una sorta di moltiplicatore keynesiano, della funzione della Serie BKT di valorizzazione dei territori, che crescono in visibilità, traendo un formidabile beneficio economico, culturale e sociale. Detto questo non dimentichiamoci mai però del grande patrimonio del calcio, costituito dai tifosi: senza di loro questo sport, che è il più bello del mondo, non esisterebbe. La B poi, che è il campionato dei territori, incarna magnificamente la passione autentica della gente verso la propria squadra vissuto nella quotidianità, fra le strade e nelle piazze. C’è poi un altro aspetto che mi piace ricordare e che afferisce alla sfera dell’umanità e della vicinanza del calcio alle persone, mi riferisco agli straordinari, direi unici, progetti sociali che mettiamo in campo ogni anno per stare vicino a chi soffre e dare una risposta alle emergenze. La Lega B per questo c’è e ci sarà sempre. Abbiamo una piattaforma esclusiva che si sviluppa attraverso la nostra impresa sociale ‘Big for people’ e che ha attivato fra l’altro progetti innovativi come B come Bambini e collaborazioni internazionali come con IFAD, agenzia specializzata dell’ONU che ha l’obiettivo di ridurre la povertà attraverso lo sviluppo dell’agricoltura.

Football: just pure business, or also about “humanity”?

Professional football clubs are real companies that provide jobs for thousands of families and generate significant economic benefits for our cities. I like to define them as a sort of Keynesian multiplier, with Serie BKT’s role in enhancing the territories, increasing their visibility and deriving formidable economic, cultural, and social benefits. That being said, let’s never forget the great asset of football, which is the fans: without them, this sport, which is the most beautiful in the world, would not exist. Serie B, being the league of the territories, embodies the authentic passion of the people for their teams, experienced in everyday life, on the streets and in the squares. There is also another aspect that I like to remember, which relates to the sphere of humanity and the closeness of football to people. I am referring to the extraordinary and unique social projects that we implement every year to support those in need and respond to emergencies. Serie B is there for this reason, and it always will be. We have an exclusive platform developed through our social enterprise ‘Big for people,’ which has implemented innovative projects such as ‘B like Bambini’ and international collaborations, such as with IFAD, the UN specialized agency focused on reducing poverty through agricultural development.

The most “significant” encounter in recent years?

Over the years, I have had the privilege of meeting many people: presidents, professionals, and industry experts. Each of them has imparted valuable human experiences that have 45

patrimonio umano che mi ha aiutato nelle conoscenze di un mondo complesso, anche dal punto di vista valoriale, come primo rappresentante di una lega professionistica. Certo però non posso dimenticare l’immensa emozione vissuta in occasione dell’incontro con Sua Santità Papa Francesco, durante il quale sono stato letteralmente travolto dal suo forte carisma e da un enorme senso di fede, propri di una persona che con principi saldi porta avanti un importante compito di guida e riferimento pastorale per milioni di fedeli e non.

Progetti per il futuro?

Stiamo investendo con grande forza ed efficacia nel mondo degli esports, dove siamo stati i primi a introdurre un campionato ufficiale, per venire incontro alle esigenze delle giovani generazioni che cercano nel calcio un intrattenimento moderno e adeguato ai loro bisogni. Il nostro lavoro inoltre è indirizzato sull’ulteriore miglioramento della tecnologia produttiva, su cui abbiamo già fortemente investito in questi anni, ma anche nelle “start up” di competenza e innovazione con tanti giovani talenti all’interno delle dinamiche sportive e manageriali. La volontà poi è di proseguire nello sviluppo del nostro brand a livello mondiale, che porti con sé una forte rivalutazione di quel modello di sistema calcistico italiano che fino a poco tempo fa era leader riconosciuto del movimento internazionale.

Cosa è “sbagliato” nel mondo del calcio?

Diciamo che, se prendiamo come riferimento l’Italia, non si è stati capaci di sfruttare quel vantaggio che si era accumulato alcuni decenni fa quando eravamo il riferimento mondiale.

Non siamo stati in grado di rinnovarci e ci siamo seduti sugli allori, interrompendo quel percorso che ci aveva garantito il ruolo di leadership del movimento calcistico internazionale.

Ora c’è molta attesa per arrivare a quelle urgenti riforme che noi sollecitiamo da tanto, forse troppo, tempo; riforme necessarie per assicurare la modernizzazione e l’evoluzione fondamentali per recuperare quote di competitività. Riforme che devono prevedere anche un riordino della giustizia sportiva rendendola sempre più credibile e terza nonché tempestiva, avendo come riferimento principale il perimetro della competizione calcistica.

However, I cannot forget the immense emotion I felt during my encounter with His Holiness Pope Francis. I was truly overwhelmed by his strong charisma and the immense sense of faith that he embodies as someone who carries out an important role as a guide and pastoral reference for millions of believers and nonbelievers alike.

Future projects?

We are investing with great strength and effectiveness in the world of esports. We were the first to introduce an official championship to meet the needs of the younger generations who seek modern and suitable entertainment in football.

Our work is also focused on further improving production technology, which we have heavily invested in over the years, as well as nurturing competence and innovation through startups with many young talents involved in sports and management dynamics. Additionally, our aim is to continue developing our brand globally, which would bring about a reevaluation of the Italian football system that was once recognized as a leader in the international movement.

What is “wrong” with the world of football?

If we consider Italy as a reference point, we have not been able to capitalize on the advantage we accumulated decades ago when we were the global benchmark. We failed to renew ourselves and rested on our laurels, interrupting the path that had granted us the role of leading the international football movement. There is now great anticipation for urgent reforms that we have been advocating for a long time, perhaps too long. These reforms are necessary to ensure modernization and essential evolution to regain competitiveness. The reforms should also include a reorganization of sports justice, making it more credible, impartial, and timely, with football competition as the main focus. This reform process must be approached decisively. Our ideas on this matter are clear and well-defined, including revising the disciplinary system to protect the integrity of competitions and credibility.

Un processo di riforma che andrà affrontato con decisione: le nostre idee sono chiare e definite sul punto, anche in termini di rivisitazione dell’apparato sanzionatorio in funzione della tutela delle competizioni e della credibilità.

Cosa realmente è una “lega calcio” e cosa può fare un Presidente lungimirante?

Una lega calcistica non può limitarsi alla conduzione del campionato e alla commercializzazione dei diritti televisivi con la relativa distribuzione dei ricavi, ma deve porre le basi affinché la sfida sportiva possa essere equa e trasparente e l’immagine del torneo possa crescere e diventare appetibile per un pubblico sempre più vasto. In queste stagioni abbiamo lavorato molto sul brand Serie B e i ricavi sono quasi raddoppiati. Di ciò siamo orgogliosi, avendo come obiettivo pervenire a una reale dimensione di sana stabilità economica al fine di salvaguardare la parità competitiva. Vogliamo però che tutto ciò si coniughi con una crescita dell’appeal del campionato e delle gare.

Allo stesso modo abbiamo avanzato numerose proposte, talune accolte anche dalla Federazione, per garantire la regolarità e la pari condizione della competizione sportiva, puntando sulla credibilità e su nuove garanzie in sede di iscrizione al campionato, con meccanismi premiali che portino anche le società che faticano maggiormente ad allinearsi agli standard di efficienza e di sana gestione.

Un Presidente dev’essere più “Avvocato” o “Politico”?

Un presidente deve essere competente e conoscere e rappresentare le esigenze di tutti i club traducendole in fatti concreti; allo stesso modo deve essere in grado di leggere il futuro con attenzione e lungimiranza direi anche con un pizzico di lucida follia per non farsi travolgere e sorpassare in un mondo che viaggia velocissimo e che necessita di un continuo processo di studio, analisi e aggiornamento. Deve, inoltre, attraverso la massima professionalità garantire imparzialità e vicinanza verso tutte le associate. Un buon presidente poi deve trasmettere al proprio team il proprio carisma, forza ed entusiasmo oltre a trasferire quelli che sono i valori fondanti dell’associazione e gli obiettivi principali a cui tendere.

Infine un buon presidente deve ricordarsi che fuori dagli uffici della sua lega c’è un popolo di tifosi che va salvaguardato e tutelato in ogni modo, in quanto, lo dicevo anche prima, principale e fondamentale patrimonio del calcio.

What is a “football league” really, and what can a visionary President do?

A football league cannot merely focus on managing the championship and commercializing television rights with revenue distribution. It must establish the foundation for fair and transparent sporting competition, while also enhancing the image of the tournament and making it appealing to an increasingly wider audience. In recent seasons, we have worked extensively on the Serie B brand, and revenues have almost doubled. We take pride in this accomplishment as our objective is to achieve genuine financial stability to safeguard competitive parity. However, we want all this to be combined with the growth of the championship’s appeal and matches.

We have also proposed numerous measures, some of which have been accepted by the Federation, to ensure the regularity and equal conditions of sporting competitions. These proposals focus on credibility and introducing new guarantees for club registration, with rewarding mechanisms that support clubs struggling to align with efficiency and sound management standards.

A president of a football league must be more of a “lawyer” or a “politician”?

A president must be competent and understand and represent the needs of all the clubs, translating them into concrete actions. Similarly, they must have the ability to carefully and foresightfully read the future, perhaps even with a touch of clear madness, so as not to be overwhelmed and surpassed in a rapidly moving world that requires a continuous process of study, analysis, and updating. Furthermore, they must ensure impartiality and closeness to all member clubs with the utmost professionalism.

A good president must also transmit their own charisma, strength, and enthusiasm to their team, as well as instill the fundamental values of the association and the main objectives to strive for.

Lastly, a good president must remember that outside the offices of their league, there is a population of fans that must be safeguarded and protected in every way, as they are, as I mentioned before, the primary and essential heritage of football.

n genere musicale ma anche un universo estetico, dai primordi nel popolare e malfamato Bronx, fino a fenomeno globale. L’hip hop compie i suoi primi cinquant’anni proprio quest’anno, e una cifra così importante merita sia celebrazioni che riflessioni.

Un traguardo significativo, i cui sviluppi nel corso di queste decadi vengono esplorati attraverso oltre 200 fotografie in mostra da Fotografiska a Park Avenue, NYC. ‘Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious’ il titolo della mostra realizzata in partnership con la rivista Mass Appeal, e curata da Sacha Jenkins e Sally Berman, responsabile creativo ed ex direttrice della fotografia della rivista, cattura tutti i momenti che hanno segnato la storia dell’Hip Hop, dalle sessioni improvvisate nel Bronx fino a diventare un fenomeno mondiale.

“I fotografi - ha spiegato Jenkins all’Ansa- erano, per così dire, le ostetriche che hanno aiutato sia coloro che ne erano parte sia quelli al di fuori a capirne il valore”. Gli scatti fotografici riportano negli anni ’70, quando a New York la criminalità impazzava ma la creatività era ai massimi livelli. Tutto ha avuto inizio ad una festa di ritorno a scuola di Cindy e Clive Campbell (alias DJ Kool Herc) tenutasi nella sala ricreativa del loro condominio nel Bronx, l’11 agosto 1973. Durante quel leggendario party, Herc ebbe una intuizione che si rivelò una delle scelte creative chiave della musica del XX secolo. Aveva capito quali fossero i brani o le parti di essi che la gente aspettava per scatenarsi. Il momento clou era la parte strumentale in cui tutti gli elementi scemavano a favore delle percussioni e del ritmo: il break. Da

musical genre but also an aesthetic universe, from the beginnings in the popular and infamous Bronx, to a global phenomenon. Hip hop is celebrating its first fifty years this year, and such an important number deserves both celebrations and reflections.

A significant achievement, whose developments over these decades are explored through over 200 photographs exposed

by Fotografiska in Park Avenue, NYC. ‘Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious’ is the title of the exhibit organized in partnership with the magazine Mass Appeal, and curated by Sacha jenkins and Sally Berman, creative director and former magazine editor of the magazine, that catches all of the moments that have marked the history of Hip Hop, from improvised sessions in the Bronx to becoming a worldwide phenomenon.

‘Photographers- explained Jenkins to the Ansa- were, so to speak, the midwives that helped both the ones who were part of it, and those who were not, to understand its value’.

The photo shooted bring visitors back to the 70s, when in New York crime raged but creativity was at its highest levels.

Everything started at a welcome-back party at Cindy and Clive Campbell’s school (alias DJ Kool Herc) held in the recreation room of their condo in the Bronx, August 11, 1973.

During that legendary party, Herc had an intuition that turned out to be one of the key creative choices of XX century music.

He had already understood what kind of songs and what part of them people were waiting for to romp to. The highlight was the instrumental part during which all of the elements faded in favor 49

of percussion and rhythm: the break. From that inspirational moment was produced the concept of breakbeat, then sampling and music production technology, as well as any type of loopbased production technique. There, places that were ghetto neighborhoods for all the ethnic minorities established hip hop culture; an identification element of “black” culture and a fundamental part of American recent history.

From the nineties, Hip Hop popularity grew exponentially in the United States so as in the whole world. It was possible thanks to the success of musicians such as Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Lauryn Hill, dear departed Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G.

quel momento di ispirazione è arrivato il concetto di breakbeat, quindi campionamento e tecnologia di produzione musicale, nonché ogni tipo di tecnica di produzione basata su loop. Lì, in quelli che all’epoca erano quartieri-ghetto per tutte le minoranze etniche, nasce la cultura hip hop, elemento di identificazione della cultura “black” e parte fondamentale della storia recente americana.

Dagli anni ’90 la popolarità dell’hip hop, è cresciuta in modo esponenziale negli Stati Uniti e nel mondo. È avvenuto in parte grazie al successo trasversale di musicisti come Jay-Z, Drake, Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Lauryn Hill, i compianti Tupac Shakur e Notorius B.I.G.. Nel 2017, l’hip hop e l’R&B – superarono negli Stati Uniti il rock per la prima volta, diventando la musica più ascoltata in assoluto. Tuttavia una recente riduzione delle quote di mercato e una flessione nel successo dei singoli e dei dischi hanno portato alcuni analisti a chiedersi se siano finiti gli anni del grande successo dell’hip hop. Al momento non possiamo dirlo, ma sebbene l’hip hop non arrivi in perfetta forma ai suoi primi 50, rimane tra i generi più ascoltati in assoluto, e ha molte carte da giocare per riprendersi il trono di genere più amato e suonato. Ma dire che l’hip hop è musica, è davvero riduttivo.

In 2017, hip hop alongside with R&B surpassed rock music in the United States for the first time, becoming the most listened type of music ever.

However, a recent decrease in market share and a decline in the success of singles and records have led some analysts to wonder if the years of the great success of hip hop are over. At the moment we can not say that, but although hip hop does not reach its fifties in perfect shape, it continues to be among the most listened genres ever, and has many cards to play to take back the most beloved and played genre throne. But saying that hip hop is music, is really reductive.

Likewise, fashion adapted to hip hop giving birth to a mix of different styles. It is more than a style, it is one of the more persuasive manifestations of culture and fashion of the twentyfirst century, from luxury brands to everyday clothing, that contributed to make streetwear, athleisure and logomania popular. American brands such as Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, and European luxury fashion houses such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Versace addressed the hip hop generation in their own way. A turning point occurred in 2004 when Sean Combs won the Menswear Designer of the Year Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He was one of the first black designers to win this prize and showed to the 50

Non solo: questa è in assoluto la prima volta che il museo esamina la moda esclusivamente attraverso un genere musicale, mettendosi in mostra e dandosi un po’ di arie, a 50 anni in maniera ancora più sfacciata.

Indeed, hip hop artists give relevance and exposure to fashion brands and designers immersed in culture, from Virgil Abloh to Pharrell Williams and Rihanna, are respected if not revered, in the industry. Precisely on this aspect focuses the second exhibit of the year, dedicated to hip hop, entitled: Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

This event, since February 8th, explores this revolutionary and influential style with over 100 iconic garments and accessories.

van Cattaneo, cantante poliedrico e pittore. Si appresta ad inaugurare la prossima mostra a Prato, una delle cinque, sei mostre personali che organizza all’anno. Poi sarà la volta di Zurigo, Forlì, Milano e poi Napoli.

Ivan cosa racconti nelle tue opere?

La mia arte inizia da quando ero bambino e ritagliavo e incollavo di tutto. Ora le mie opere sono principalmente occhi e bocche applicati su spazi pittorici: è un pò la pittura che rimangia la fotografia. E gli occhi e la bocca, a seconda di dove sono posizionati, hanno un valore simbolico e un’identità differente, come una “tabellina artistica” e priva di sessualità definita, senza genere, in una fluidità continua che va oltre il colore della pelle, l’origine.

Ivan what do you tell in your pieces?

My art blossomed when I was a kid and I used to cut and glue everything. Now my works are mainly eyes and mouths applied on pictorial spaces: it’s a bit like painting is reneging photography. And the eyes and the mouth, depending on where they are placed, have a symbolic value and a different identity, like an “artistic table” and devoid of defined sexuality, without gender, in a continuous fluidity that goes beyond the color of the skin, or one’s origin.

La mia architettura è piena di sessualità, le tue opere?

Anche per me il sesso è importante e fatto di ruoli spesso ben precisi ma sempre “fluidi”. Per me LGBT negli anni Ottanta era Polisex.

In architettura gli occhi e la bocca sono le finestre e il portone d’ingresso. Nella tua pittura?

Gli occhi sono lo specchio dell’anima, sono la parte che ti collega e fa emergere il tuo profondo. La bocca è il bacio, il nutrimento, anche sessuale, il rapportarsi all’altro, come due portali.

Parlando del rapporto fra musica e pittura, quando dipingi la relazione è fra te e la tela, non ci sono intermediari. Tu dipingi, fai quello che vuoi, e il prodotto è quello. Quando fai il musicista o il cantante, hai a che fare con orchestrali, arrangiatori, tecnici del suono, e se non sei un cantautore hai quello che ti fa la musica, o il testo. Per cui attraverso questo “passaggio di mani”, puoi arrivare ad un risultato che spesso non è quello che ti aspettavi. La pittura rimane così, salvo qualche caso. Bob Dylan, ad esempio, che è anche pittore, con chitarra e voce senza “intermediari” suonava e cantava definendo perfettamente il tutto, come in un quadro.

Se dovessi raccontarti con una parola…

Sono un curioso sperimentatore. Una volta un grande critico musicale mi disse che giocavo con la musica come un bambino col “piccolo chimico”. È la cosa più vicina alla mia realtà.

Dalla zebra a pois a tutti gli esperimenti successivi, ma sempre con rispetto. Anche “la BAMBOLINA”, l’ho cambiata, ma rispettava la memoria collettiva, come anche BANG BANG; il RAGAZZO DI STRADA. Altri non lo fanno. L’altro giorno ho sentito uno che cantava YESTERDAY e ho impiegato 5 minuti per riconoscerla.

My architecture is full of sexuality, and your pieces?

For me too, sex is important, and made up of often precise but always “fluid” roles. For me, LGBT in the eighties was Polisex.

In architecture, eyes and mouth are the windows and the front door. What about your paintings?

The eyes are the mirror of the soul, the part that connects you and brings out your deepness. The mouth is the kiss, the nourishment, also sexual, the addressing to the other, like two portals. Speaking of the relationship between music and painting, when you paint, the relationship is between you and the canvas, there are no intermediaries. You paint, you do what you want, and that’s the final product. When you become a musician or a singer, you’re dealing with orchestras, arrangers, sound engineers, and if you’re not a songwriter, you have those who make the music, or the lyrics for you. And because of that, you can reach to a result that is often not what you expected.

The painting remains like this, except for a few cases. Bob Dylan, for example, who is also a painter, with his guitar and his voice played and sang perfectly defining the whole, as in a painting, without “intermediaries”.

If you had to describe yourself in a word?

I’m a curious experimenter. A great music critic once told me that I played with music like a child plays with his “piccolo chimico” set. It’s the closest thing to my reality. From the zebra a pois, to all subsequent experiments, but always with respect.

Nasci prima musicista o pittore?

Prima pittore. Ho fatto anche il liceo artistico uscendo con il massimo dei voti e poi sono partito per Londra, dove ho conosciuto personaggi bellissimi nei favolosi anni ’70: da Roxy Music, a David Bowie, fino a Cat Stevens. Ero amico di Mark Edward, produttore di Bowie, Brian Eno, deii Jethro Trull.

Avevo 20 anni e lui 30, e mi fece conoscere quelli che chiamo, “effetti speciali”.

Essere “omosessuale” ti ha aiutato o no?

Beh, in quel periodo era molto pericoloso esserlo, sondavi un terreno poco conosciuto, ma dall’altra parte rappresentavi l’unicità, per cui c’era un aspetto positivo. Mentre oggi essere gay è praticamente nella norma. Ma prima di tutto c’era la musica.

Qualcuno mi accusò di non aver mai scritto una canzone gay.

You are firstly a musician or a painter?

I born as a painter. I also went to art school, graduated with top marks, and then I went to London, where I met beautiful people in the fabulous ‘70s: from Roxy Music, to David Bowie, to Cat Stevens. I was friends with Mark Edward, producer of Bowie, Brian Eno, Jethro Trull. I was 20 and he was 30, and he introduced me to what I call, “special effects”.

Did being “homosexual” help you or not?

Sui miei quadri ci attaccherei di tutto se potessi, anche me stesso.

I miei amici mi chiamano “Mister Vinavil”. Io attacco tante cose, sono un po’ un accumulatore seriale, mi piace il polimaterico.

Ma i caratteri principali restano gli occhi e la bocca, anche se la bocca ultimamente è andata un po’ scemando, perché in fondo è un buco. A me i galleristi dicono: “mi raccomando non fare

Il valore di Andy Warhol è stato quello di anticipare “le repliche”. Lui diceva: “in futuro saranno tutti famosi per 15 minuti”. Ha sbagliato solo il tempo, perché oggi su TikTok o altro, sono tutti famosi, anche per un secondo.

Ha più valore chi tiene alla propria privacy. Voi insistete sulla “carta”, cosa che è controcorrente. I really don’t care. Record companies today, they try to pair two artists, but I find it painful. It’s hard to see anything incredible coming out. I can understand Raf and Tozzi, but not the rest.

Un turbinio di colori pervade la visione del fruitore, che in un primo momento si trova così destabilizzato, quasi spaesato. Ma la visione cambia, si distorce e si ricompone, ed ecco che appaiono forme nascoste che guidano l’occhio in un viaggio all’interno della tela.

La sensazione è quella umana quindi; quella di spaesamento e confusione provata nell’attimo dell’incontro con un altro essere umano, e quella invece della razionalità e del riconoscimento che prevale nel mentre si conosce lo stesso individuo.

Al termine dell’atto dell’osservare l’opera, si ha la sensazione di riconoscere il tutto; il quadro diventa “amico” dell’osservatore. Gastone si fa così artefice di un moto dell’anima che pone la Donna nella sua sensualità e intelligenza al centro della tematica. Non una condizione futile ma ben sì molto più ampia e pura; perché se W.Shakespeare scrisse “Quale autore al mondo potrà insegnarvi la bellezza come uno sguardo di una donna?”, l’artista qui amplia il concetto precludendo la Donna in tutte le sue forme e fasi.

A whirlwind of colors permeates the viewer’s vision, initially leaving them destabilized, almost disoriented. But the vision changes, distorts, and recomposes itself, revealing hidden forms that guide the eye on a journey within the canvas.

The sensation is undeniably human: the disorientation and confusion experienced in the moment of encountering another human being, and the subsequent rationality and recognition that prevail as we get to know that same individual.

At the end of the act of observing the artwork, there is a sense of recognition of the whole; the painting becomes a “friend” to the observer. Gastone thus becomes the creator of a movement of the soul that places Woman, with her sensuality and intelligence, at the center of the theme. It is not a trivial condition but rather something much broader and purer. Just as W. Shakespeare wrote, “What author in the world can teach you about beauty like the gaze of a woman?” the artist here expands the concept, encompassing Woman in all her forms and phases.

Ciò che questa opera ci fa notare ed assimilare non ha eguali in ognuno di noi; il titolo stesso ci indica la via, ma può essere inteso in molteplici dimensioni e attimi. Pervade così l’emozione o la sensazione? Il ruolo delle emozioni si fa protagonista, come in una Festa.

Oggi il laboratorio orafo e gioielleria opera in Corigliano Rossano, dove il maestro orafo Antonio Perri e la figlia Anna continuano a tramandare l’arte orafa e a creare gioielli accostando storia e creatività contemporanea.

Nel 1896 Gennaro Perri fonda la prima fabbrica di oreficeria a Cirò. La vostra storia inizia così?

Sì , 4 generazioni di orafi e amanti del gioiello fatto a mano.

Il mio bisnonno aprì la prima piccola fabbrica di oreficeria a Ciro, in Calabria. Mio nonno, trasferitosi per amore a Campana, in un piccolo paese alle falde della Sila, creava i gioielli della tradizione orafa calabrese, che si acquistavano solitamente per i matrimoni o per eventi importanti. Io, mio fratello Alberto e mio padre Antonio, Maestro orafo di grande esperienza e saggezza, portiamo avanti la stessa tradizione, sostenendo e promulgando l’artigianato orafo come patrimonio artistico calabrese.

erri, is a true artisan dynasty that has transmitted, for four generations, the experience of the ancient jewelry.

Today, the goldsmith and jewelry laboratories are located in Corigliano Rossano. Here, the master goldsmith Antonio Perri, and his daughter Anna continue to hand down the goldsmith’s art and create jewelry combining history and contemporary creativity.

In 1896, Gennaro Perri founded the first goldsmith’s factory in Cirò. Does your story begin like this, doesn’t it?

Yes, four generations of goldsmiths and lovers of handmade jewelry. My great-grandfather opened the first small goldsmith’s factory in Cirò, Calabria. My grandfather, who moved for love to Campana in a small village at the foot of the Sila, created the jewels representing the Calabrian goldsmith tradition, which were usually purchased for weddings or important events. Me, my brother Alberto and my father Antonio, master goldsmith of great experience and wisdom, are the ones carrying on that same tradition, supporting and promulgating the goldsmith craft as an artistic Calabria heritage.

Da cosa trae ispirazione la vostra tradizione orafa?

Dalla Magna Grecia. Ogni gioiello viene modellato prevalentemente a mano e decorato da una armonia di filigrane, spirali, foglie, petali, perline scaramazze infilate in un sottilissimo filo d’oro e cucite su di esso con grande pazienza e precisione proprio come un ricamo, rendendolo unico e irripetibile.

Accanto alla lavorazione artigianale affianchiamo quella di ultima generazione. Mio fratello Alberto, architetto e abilissimo designer, è responsabile della progettazione e del disegno in 3D. Attraverso questa tecnica, la prototipazazione, realizziamo gioielli di design moderno e dalle forme più estrose.

What is that inspires your goldsmith tradition?

We take a lot from the Magna Grecia. Each jewel is mainly shaped by hand and decorated with a harmony of watermarks, spirals, leaves, petals, beads of the scaramazze type, threaded in a very thin gold thread and sewn on it with great patience and precision just like an embroidery, making it unique and unrepeatable.

In addition to the craftsmanship, we support the latest generation.

My brother Alberto, an architect and talented designer, is responsible for designing and drawing in 3D. Through this technique called prototyping, we create modern design jewelry of the most whimsical shapes.

Come parte la progettazione di un gioiello e cosa raccontano le vostre creazioni?

I gioielli prendono forma dalla nostra fantasia cercando sempre forme diverse e accostamenti di colori e di pietre. In genere ci lasciamo ispirare dalle forme armoniose del passato reinterpretandole secondo tendenze del momento Quando, invece, creiamo un gioiello su commissione lasciamo che sia il cliente stesso a raccontarci quello che desidera, i suoi gusti e le sue aspettative, cosi da creare un gioiello personalizzato.

How does the design of a jewel start, and what do your creations narrate?

The jewels take shape from our imagination, as we are always looking for different shapes and combinations of colors and stones. To the contrary, when we are asked to create a piece of jewelry on commission, we always let the customer tell us what they want, their tastes and expectations, we let them tell us what they want, so as to create a personalized jewel.

La creazione di un gioiello nasce dalle pietre su cui si va a lavorare, o viceversa c’è un’idea di fondo che prescinde dalle pietre che verranno utilizzate?

Entrambe le cose. Spesso acquistiamo delle pietre perché attirati dalla loro forma o colore e su queste creiamo il gioiello esaltandone la bellezza e la particolarità. In altri casi invece nasce prima l’idea del gioiello e poi si cerca la pietra che più si adatta.

Quali sono i vostri progetti per il futuro?

Accanto al negozio fisico, dove i clienti possono visionare le nostre creazioni, stiamo perfezionando e ampliando il nostro negozio online.

The process of creating a jewel begins from the stones you are going to shape, or, vice versa, there is an initial idea that doesn’t depend on the shape of the stones that will be used?

Both of those things are correct. We often buy stones because we are attracted by their shape or color, and starting from this we create the jewel enhancing its beauty and uniqueness. In other cases, instead, the idea of the jewel comes first, and then you look for the stone that best fits.

on l’editrice siamo andati a visitare, accompagnati da Ugo, uno dei fratelli Molinas (persona squisita gentile e competente), lo stabilimento di Calangianus di questo rampante Gruppo Industriale radicato nel territorio, e conosciuto in tutto il mondo.È stata una grande sorpresa (non per me che vanto vecchi e radicati rapporti col territorio) toccare con mano un processo produttivo tanto ricco di “emozioni”.

It was a great surprise (not for me, as I boast old and deep-rooted relationships with the territory) to experience firsthand a production process so rich in “emotions”.

Non sempre riesce a “sfruttare” la natura senza danneggiarla.

In questo caso, strano a dirsi, si avvantaggia la natura, producendo economia e benessere. Riteniamo a buon diritto, che in questo caso “l’uomo” raccolga gli interessi, elargiti dalla natura. Processo senza il quale, si realizzerebbe una contrazione del ciclo vitale della quercia.

It doesn’t always manage to “exploit” nature without damaging it. In this case, strangely enough, nature benefits by producing economy and well-being. We rightly believe that in this case, “man” reaps the interests bestowed by nature, a process without which there would be a contraction of the oak’s life cycle.

D’altronde, in questo straordinario territorio e paese che si chiama Calangianus, borgo ai piedi del monte Limbara, a 40 km dalle splendide spiagge di Porto Cervo, da sempre s’è prodotta economia vera con grande competenza e sostenibilità ambientale, innata, affatto modaiola! É sufficiente fare una passeggiata per le fantastiche campagne circostanti, fitte di querce, per restare invasi e avvolti da panorami incredibili, ruscelli, suoni, profumi colori e sensazioni unici al mondo, per un godimento che non esito a definire olistico.

Perche qui, la natura non “la si rispetta”, è una compagna di vita.

Alcuni numeri del gruppo Molinas, che oltre al sughero, opera nel settore alberghiero con strutture di altissimo prestigio, nella portualità e nei cantieri nautici.

Nel 2021 raggiunge un fatturato di oltre 36 milioni di euro (+18,2% rispetto all’anno precedente) con una produzione di circa 2 miliardi di tappi, (+10% rispetto al 2020). n’ambientazione unica, aftermovie spettacolari, una riconoscibilità senza eguali. Tomorowland è il festival di musica dance elettronica più bello e famoso del mondo. Ogni anno, a fine luglio, attira in un grande parco tra Anversa e Bruxelles, in Belgio, 200 mila persone provenienti da ogni paese.

L’idea alla base è stata geniale: i fratelli Beers, organizzatori dell’evento insieme alla ID&T – società olandese attiva nel settore dell’intrattenimento dagli anni Novanta – hanno creato un prodotto unico - di cui l’ambientazione fantasy è l’aspetto più iconico - in grado di sopravvivere alla concorrenza.

Accompagnato da 12 ore di musica giornaliere, ognuno può viverlo liberamente, cartina alla mano. Sembra di essere in un gigantesco luna park, e infatti Tomorrowland è definito la Disneyland dei festival.

Quest’anno l’appuntamento è per il fine settimana dal 21 al 23 luglio 2023 e quello successivo dal 28 al 30 dello stesso mese.

Cercare di estrapolare tutti i dj superstar che si esibiranno a Tomorrowland 2023 è un’impresa epica. Ma scorrendo la lista infinita di nomi saltano all’occhio Hardwell, Amelie Lens, Armin van Buuren, Nina Kraviz, Paul Kalkbrenner e i nostri resident Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Vintage Culture, Meduza e Purple Disco Machine.

A portare alta la bandiera italiana sul Main Stage di uno dei palchi più spettacolari del mondo ci penseranno i Tale of Us e Anfisa Letyago (di origini siberiane ma napoletana d’adozione).

Ma quello ciò che sorprende a Tomorrowland è la varietà incredibile della sua clientela. Si va dal teenager che balla a petto nudo fino alla coppia di mezza età insospettabile, che birra alla mano di scatena davanti ai dj preferiti. Ma la cosa davvero incredibile è che il tutto è ammantato da una forma di estrema educazione. In confronto alla quantità di partecipanti, i problemi che si verificano sono pochi e questo è dovuto a una forma di tolleranza zero verso chiunque cerchi di toccare o danneggiare gli allestimenti nel parco e un forte senso del rispetto delle regole tipico di quei Paesi del Nord Europa dove gli eventi EDM sono particolarmente diffusi. È come se ci si immergesse in un universo ricco di colori, forme, spazi da vivere con uno spirito di fratellanza che può essere riassunto nel motto del Tomorrowland, PLUR (Peace, Love, Unity, Respect). Il festival ha costruito la sua fama unicamente sul passaparola in internet, senza nessuna forma classica di pubblicità in tv o annunci in radio, ma grazie solo ai social media.

the concept changes and the attention to the scenographic setting is always exceptional. Everything has to bring the audience into a dreamlike world, having the aim to make participants live a mystical experience in a fairytale place, in an environment full of rides, pageants and attractions. With 12 hours of non-stop music, anyone can experience it in their own way, with a map in their hand. Tomorrowland feels like being in a huge lunapark, for this reason this event is also called the Disney of music festivals. This year, it will be held for the weekend from July 21th to the 23th and the next weekend of the same month from the 28th to the 30th.

Trying to extrapolate all of the superstar DJs that are going to perform at 2023 Tomorrowland is tough. Scrolling the participants’ list Hardwell, Amelie Lens, Armin van Buuren, Nina Kraviz, Paul Kalkbrenner and our residents Martin Garrix, Tiesto, Vintage Culture, Meduza and Purple disco Machine stand out.

The mission to represent Italy on the Main Stage of one of the most impressive stages worldwide is up to Tale of Us and Anfisa Letyago (Siberian origins but raised in Naples).

What is amazing about Tomorrowland is its incredible range of customers: from shirtless dancing teenagers to unexpected middle-aged couples with beers in hand going wild listening to their favorite DJs. Above all, what makes this experience incredible is that everyone is deeply polite. In comparison to the amount of participants, the problems that occur are few thanks to a zero-tolerance towards those who try to damage the park settings and a strong sense of respect for the rules, typical of Northern Europe Countries where EDMs festivals are widely common.

It is like diving in a colorful universe, full of shapes, spaces to live with a brotherhood spirit, which can be enclosed in Tomorrowland motto: PLUR (peace, Love, Unity, Respect).

This festival became notorious thanks to the word-of-mouth on the internet, without any kind of classical television or radio advertisement, just social media power.

Partecipare richiede un mix di velocità e fortuna: eccezion fatta per i ticket per i Global Journey – i pacchetti viaggio organizzati da Tomorrowland, acquistabili direttamente sul sito sei mesi prima, necessitano di una pre-registrazione che consente di mettersi in lista d’attesa. Agli acquirenti viene poi spedito a casa un cofanetto contenente un bracciale elettronico. Una volta attivato inserendo i propri dati, diventa il biglietto valido per l’ingresso a Tomorrowland.

Quello stesso bracciale, per tutta la permanenza dello spettatore, diventa il suo portafogli virtuale sul quale caricare i pearls, la valuta ufficiale con cui pagare all’interno del parco.

20 euro corrispondono a 13 pearls. Ci sono circa 120 stand gastronomici che offrono differenti tipologie di cibi, dallo street food ai piatti serviti in ristoranti stellati e cucinati dai migliori chef del Paese. Tutti questi aspetti, a partire dalle scenografie, passando per la location e per la vasta offerta musicale hanno ridefinito il concetto di festival associato al Tomorrowland.

“Is there life after Tomorrowland?”, dice uno dei tanti striscioni esposti durante l’ultima edizione. Le bandiere di tutto il mondo esposte fiere rappresentano la forza di un festival che riesce ad abbattere ogni tipo di barriera, musicale, politica e sociale.

Participating involves both speed and luck: not considering the Global Journey Tickets - travel packages organized directly by Tomorrowland available on the official website, need a pre-registration that allows users to get on the waiting list. A package containing an electronic bracelet is then sent to purchasers. Once activated by entering your data, it becomes the ticket for Tomorrowland.

The bracelet, for the whole festival, becomes your virtual wallet on which to load the perls, the official currency for paying in the park. 20 euros correspond to 13 perls. The event hosts an average of 120 food stands offering different types of dishes: from street food to meals prepared in Michelin-star restaurants and cooked by the best chefs of the country. All of these aspects, starting from the scenography and continuing with the venue and the large musical offering, have been redefining the concept associated with Tomorrowland.

“Is there life after Tomorrowland?”, says one of the banners hung during the last edition. The flags of the world exhibited represent the strength of a festival that manages to break down all kinds of barriers, both musical, political and social.

iceva un mio docente all’università: “ragazzi, ricordate che se sbaglia un medico, piangono due persone per due giorni, se sbaglia un architetto, possono piangere intere generazioni”. Aggiunsi molto timidamente: “professore, vale anche il contrario?”

Convinto com’ero che fare architettura fosse una straordinaria missione che poteva portare benefici in termini di qualità di vita, risorse intellettuali economiche e sociali.

Un collega italiano di fama mondiale, sostiene (a ragione) che abbiamo l’importante - e aggiungo gravoso - incarico di modificare la crosta terrestre!

nce, one of my professors at the university said: “boys, remember that if a doctor makes a mistake, two people cry for two days, if an architect makes mistakes, entire generations can cry”. I added very timidly: “Professor, is also true the opposite?” convinced as I was that studying architecture was an extraordinary mission that could bring benefits in terms of quality of life, economic and social intellectual resources.

One of my world-renowned Italian colleague, claims that we have the important – and, let me add, onerous- task to modify the earth’s crust.

Architettura dunque a cavallo fra racconto arte e storia futura, funzione e godimento bilaterale fra chi, è artefice del progetto e l’individuo o la collettività destinata a fruirne.

Architecture, therefore, straddling the narrative between art and future history, function and bilateral enjoyment between those who is the architect of the project, and the individual or the community destined to who can make use of it.

Spesso in un tentativo di planare su paradigmi a volte strutturati di convenzione, molto di raro, intrisi di passione e competenza, disegnamo il sistema di una vita sospesa fra asseveramento del potere o logiche formali a perseguire amore, sogni, chimere o gradi funzionali non sempre identificabili.

Frequently, in an attempt to glide on sometimes structured paradigms of convention, very rare, imbued with passion and competence, we design the system of a life suspended between the asseveration of power or formal logics to pursue love, dreams, chimeras or functional degrees not always identifiable.

Rimane altrettanto vero che per fare un grande Architetto ci vuole sempre un grande Committente. Ma ci sono ancora i Piero, Giovanni, Lorenzo de’ Medici, i Leone X, Clemente VII, Ludovico il Moro, Enea Silvio Piccolomini? Forse l’ultimo grande Committente tra i contemporanei è stato Steve Jobs a incaricare il grande Norman Foster affinché desse “forma” al potere tecnologico, con dei “biglietti da visita” milionari e straordinari?

Forse si … considerando che il co - fondatore della Apple è stato profondamente ispirato dall’architettura, e dal design del Bauhaus. E sicuramente la percezione che l’intersezione tra arte, tecnologia e “quasi sogno” l’avrebbero condotto ad un potere tecnologico ed economico straordinario e planetario. E forse per sempre.

La composizione architettonica, è spesso intrisa di poca dignità culturale e meccanicismi grammaticali dettati in molti casi da leziosi piani regolatori, (parlo ovviamente dell’Italia) e raramente riesce a raggiungere l’obiettivo prefissato sperato o presunto, restando lontano da “venustas firmitas e utilitas” (i valori architettonici imprescindibili e codificati da Vitruvio).

Rimpiangere le “commissioni dell’Ornato” a riguardo, sembra del tutto lecito, laddove ci troviamo inscatolati da sistemi a dir poco coercitivi, che negano il bello, l’opera d’arte e solista, e la vera “Architettura”, figlia del proprio tempo.

Perché essere spesso costretti a restare racchiusi dentro finti stilemi di finte tipologie, erroneamente confuse col processo morfogenetico che ne produce la definizione formale, intrisa di evoluzione sociale ed economica, conduce ad un cunicolo dove “l’Arte e la Tecnica” del costruire, svaniscono inevitabilmente, lasciando il posto alle solite “scatole” vuote di tutto.

Trovo lapalissiano affermare come nessuna delle grandi opere d’arte nate dal genio straordinario e creativo dei giganti dell’Architettura, sarebbe mai potuto essere assentito oggi!

Possiamo pensare a Falling Water di Frank Lloyd Wright, che avrebbe a dir poco fatto urlare i detrattori dell’antropizzazione della natura a tutti i costi; o al grattacielo della Pan Am di Walter Gropius che interrompe Park Avenue, o all’indisciplinato “Terragni”, che presentava un progetto “tradizionale” e realizzava un altro edificio, convinto com’era che il vero progetto non sarebbe stato approvato.

It remains equally true that in order to become a great Architect it always takes a great Client. But are there still Piero, Giovanni, Lorenzo de’ Medici, Leone X, Clemente VII, Ludovico il Moro, Enea Silvio Piccolomini? Perhaps, the last great Client among contemporaries was Steve Jobs who commissioned the great Norman Foster to give “form” to technological power, with millionaire and extraordinary “business cards”?

Maybe it is true... whereas the co-founder of Apple has been deeply inspired by the architecture and design of the Bauhaus. And certainly the perception that the intersection of art, technology and “almost dream” would lead him to an extraordinary and planetary technological and economic power. And maybe forever.

The architectural composition is often imbued with little cultural dignity and grammatical mechanisms dictated in many cases by gleeful regulatory plans, (I speak of course of Italy) and rarely manages to achieve the goal hoped or presumed, staying away from “venustas firmitas e utilitas” (the essential architectural values codified by Vitruvio).

Regretting the “commissions of Ornato” for this reason seems quite legitimate, wherever we find ourselves boxed by systems nothing short of coercive, which deny the beautiful, the work of art and solo, and the true “Architecture”, daughter of his time.

Because being often forced to remain enclosed in fake styles of fake types, erroneously confused with the morphogenetic process that produces the formal definition, steeped in social and economic evolution, leads to a tunnel where “Art and Technology” of building, inevitably vanish, giving way to the usual empty “boxes” of everything.

I find it self-evident to say that none of the great works of art born from the extraordinary and creative giants of Architecture, could never have been accepted today!

We can think of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water, which would have made the detractors of the anthropization of nature scream at all costs; or Walter Gropius’s Pan Am skyscraper interrupting Park Avenue, or the undisciplined “Terragni”, which presented a “traditional” project and built another building, convinced that the real project would not be approved.

Lo stesso Mies venne denunciato per la Farnsworth House a sud di Chicago. E che dire del One UN Plaza di Kevin Roche, il Gallaratese di Paolo Portoghesi, la straordinaria chiesa sull’autostrada di Michelucci, l’ospedale nazionale Ayub a Dacca Luis L Kahn per non scomodare Le Corbusier a Chandigarh.

And the German Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona?

Mies himself was reported for the Farnsworth House south of Chicago. And what about the One UN Plaza by Kevin Roche, the Gallaratese by Paolo Portoghesi, the extraordinary church on the Michelucci highway, the Ayub National Hospital in Dhaka Luis L Kahn not to bother Le Corbusier in Chandigarh.

Non possiamo evitare di toccare il tasto del “dove” si costruisce, dei letti dei fiumi che sono come un’autostrada poco trafficata in alcune ore, in cui qualcuno potrebbe sentirsi autorizzato a “piantare” una tenda al centro della carreggiata, sperando di restare indenne e tranquillo.

We cannot avoid touching the button of the “where” you build, of the river beds that are like a highway little busy in a few hours, where someone might feel entitled to “pitch” a tent in the middle of the roadway, hoping to stay unscathed and calm.

Amiamo la storia, che è la nostra vera ricchezza, e dobbiamo preservarla con i giusti vincoli di tutela. Ma il nuovo è nuovo.

L’architettura è un linguaggio. E copiare il passato, equivale al ripetere “frasi” uguali in contesti diversi e in continuo cambiamento da quando l’uomo è comparso sulla terra.

Le scoperte, la tecnologia e il continuo divenire dell’essere umano richiedono sempre nuove forme e contenuti. Chi è a corto di idee e di competenze può sicuramente affrontare altre branche, libere e disponibili del processo edilizio.

Le identità straordinarie dei luoghi necessitano di conoscenze storiche dei sistemi che le hanno generate, non i risultati dell’apparenza. Invece, spesso si assume come identitario, il prodotto di una progettazione sbagliata per indisponibilità di veri progettisti “locali”, o di scelte figlie della disponibilità economica della committenza. Dico questo per un range che va dall’architettura così detta “minore”, alle grandi opere monumentali.

We love history, which is our true wealth, and we must preserve it with the right bonds of protection. But the new is new. Architecture is a language. And to copy the past is to repeat the same “sentences” in different contexts and in continuous change since man appeared on earth.

Discoveries, technology and continuous “becoming” of the human being always require new forms and contents. Those who are short of ideas and skills can certainly face other free and available branches of the building process.

The extraordinary identities of places require historical knowledge of the systems that generated them, not the results of appearance. Instead, it is often assumed as an identity, the product of a wrong design due to the unavailability of true “local” designers, or of choices born from the economic availability of the client. I say this for a range that goes from the so-called “minor” architecture to the great monumental works.

La Andrea Bocelli Foundation nasce per aiutare le persone in difficoltà a causa di malattie, condizioni di povertà ed emarginazione sociale promuovendo e sostenendo progetti nazionali e internazionali che favoriscano il superamento di tali barriere e la piena espressione del proprio potenziale. Abbiamo parlato con il presidente Laura Biancalani.

The Andrea Bocelli Foundation was created to help people in difficulty due to diseases, poverty and social exclusion by promoting and supporting national and international projects that aim to overcome such barriers and encourage the full expression of people’s potential. We have spoken with President Laura Biancalani.

I risultati ottenuti dalla ABF dalla sua fondazione nel 2011 sono straordinari. Molti sono i suoi progetti legati al campo dell’educazione. Qual è stata la spinta che vi ha portato verso questo ambito?

Il nostro fondatore ama citare una frase di Don Milani “la lingua e solo la lingua rende uguali. Uguale è chi sa esprimersi ed intendere l’espressione altrui”. È sull’educazione che si fonda la speranza sia a livello individuale e a livello collettivo, che si costruisce l’essere umano nelle sue più alte potenzialità, ma anche la coscienza collettiva, il futuro di un Paese.

L’educazione è un’arma potente, forse quella più potente che si possa usare per l’empowerment delle persone e delle comunità.

The results obtained by ABF since its foundation in 2011 are extraordinary. Many of its projects are, indeed, related to the field of education. What was the thrust that led you towards this area?

Our founder likes to quote Don Milani “la lingua e solo la lingua rende uguali. Uguale è chi sa esprimersi ed intendere l’espressione altrui” (the language and only the language makes the same. The same is who can express and understand the expression of others).

It is on education that hope is based, both at the individual and at the collective level. It is also on education that it is built the human being in its highest potential, but also the collective consciousness, the future of a country.

Education is a powerful weapon, perhaps the most powerful one that can be used for people and community’s empowerment.

Come procede il progetto di inserimento a scuola dei bambini ucraini?

I bambini delle famiglie ucraine che hanno deciso di fermarsi in Italia e che abbiamo accolto nelle scuole ABF lo scorso anno si sono inseriti molto bene. Grazie alle nostre mediatrici culturali i bambini si sono inseriti naturalmente e comprendono e parlano l’italiano.

In questo processo di integrazione ha avuto un ruolo anche la costruzione del Coro Voices of Italy in cui cantano insieme bambini italiani dell’area del cratere del terremoto 2016 e alcuni dei bambini ucraini accolti.

Le piccole scuole delle aree terremotate insieme alle comunità sono state incredibili nell’accoglienza, replicando il modello creato subito dopo il terremoto. Hanno aperto ogni piccolo spazio comunitario a disposizione impegnandosi per molte settimane nel preparare pasti e costruire comunità.

How is the project for the inclusion of Ukrainian children in school going?

The children of Ukrainian families who decided to stay in Italy and who we welcomed in ABF schools have been very well integrated since last year. Thanks to our cultural mediators, the children have fitted naturally in the environment and now they understand and speak Italian. In this process of integration played an important role the construction of the Voices of Italy Choir, in which Italian children from the 2016 earthquake area and some of the Ukrainian children can sing together. The small schools in the earthquake areas along with the communities were incredible in the hospitality, replicating the model created immediately after the earthquake.

They opened up every little community space they had and spent many weeks preparing meals and developing communities.

Abbiamo aiutato oltre cinquanta profughi a trovare una casa e un lavoro dallo scorso marzo.

You are also helping the parents of Ukrainian children by placing them in the working world...

We have helped over fifty refugees find a home and a job since last March.

Alcuni di loro hanno deciso di tornare in patria per riunirsi alle famiglie.

Il processo di integrazione delle persone rimaste è stato completato e quasi la totalità ha un lavoro ed è in grado di comunicare nella nostra lingua.

Alcune di loro hanno lavorato o lavorano nei progetti ABF. Olena in particolare è arrivata a Marzo 2022 ed è diventata conoscendo anche l’italiano, la mediatrice culturale nella scuola di Muccia.

Si prende cura quotidianamente dell’integrazione dei bambini a scuola. Marina invece, con il nostro staff si è occupata e si occupa dell’integrazione degli adulti che oramai stanno diventando completamente indipendenti.

Some of them decided to return to their homeland to rejoin their families.

The process of integration of the remaining people has been fulfilled and almost everybody has a job and is able to communicate using our language.

Some of them have worked or are still working in ABF projects.

Olena, in particular, arrived in March 2022 and become, because she learned Italian, the cultural mediator in the school of Muccia.

She takes care of the daily integration of children at school.

Marina instead, with our staff has taken care of and still deals with the integration of adults who are now becoming completely independent.

Da dove nasce l’idea del progetto per un nuovo Hub educativo a Sforzacosta, in provincia di Macerata?

La Fondazione lavora nei territori colpiti dal sisma del 2016 già dall’anno immediatamente successivo, durante il quale abbiamo iniziato i sopralluoghi per la prima scuola che abbiamo ricostruito e inaugurato a Sarnano nel 2018. A questa sono seguite la scuola dell’infanzia e primaria di Muccia nel 2019 e l’Accademia della Musica “Franco Corelli” di Camerino nel 2020. Stiamo inoltre in fase di inizio della ricostruzione di un nuovo istituto superiore professionale a San Ginesio (progetto misto pubblico-privato da 9 milioni di euro).

Abbiamo inoltre voluto cogliere una nuova sfida nel territorio marchigiano con il progetto dell’Hub Educativo 0-11 di Sforzacosta.

Where did the idea of the project for a new educational Hub come from in Sforzacosta, in the province of Macerata?

The Foundation works in the areas affected by the earthquake of 2016 immediately from the following year, during which we began inspections for the first school that we rebuilt and inaugurated in Sarnano in 2018. This was followed by the kindergarten and primary school of Muccia in 2019 and the Music Academy “Franco Corelli” of Camerino in 2020. We are also in the beginning of the reconstruction of a new Istituto Professionale in San Ginesio (9-million-euro public-private joint project).

We also wanted to take on a new challenge in the Marche region with the Hub Project Educational 0-11 of Sforzacosta.

Questo intervento non si limiterà alla ricostruzione di una nuova scuola dell’infanzia ma unirà a questa una riqualificazione del plesso scolastico già esistente attraverso cui lavoreremo per la creazione di un modello rigenerazione urbana che passi dalla creazione oltre la scuola, di laboratori di STEM, arte, musica accessibili fuori orario scolastico da bambini e famiglie oltre a interventi sulla mobilità e sviluppo di mobilità dolce che uniscano la periferia alla città.

This intervention will not be limited to the reconstruction of a new kindergarten, but will combine this retraining of the already existing school complex through which we will work for the creation of a urban regeneration model that passes from the creation beyond the school, of STEM laboratories, art, music accessible even outside school hours by children and families as well as interventions on mobility and development of soft mobility that will unite the suburbs and the city.

Presently, with the Hub Educative 0-11 of Sforzacosta - Macerata, we will soon open the yard of the ABF Educational Center at the Meyer Pediatric Hospital in Florence. This project will be the first multidisciplinary educational center in a pediatric hospital, where young patients will learn and discover not solely carrying out the

Parallelamente a questi interventi stiamo portando avanti il Digital Lab, progetto che porta nelle scuole statali e nelle scuole in ospedale degli ospedali pediatrici italiani una biblioteca di devices digitali ABF TeachBus – a supporto dell’educazione, ma non solo: ABF si impegna a formare e mettere in campo la figura dell’Atelierista, un professionista altamente qualificato, che ha il compito di seguire docenti e studenti nell’apprendimento learning by doing dell’alfabetizzazione digitale.

Nella nostra sede operativa del Complesso di San Firenze abbiamo attivato l’ABF GlobaLab, laboratorio vocazionale per giovani tra i 16 e i 25 anni. I ragazzi, selezionati tramite scuole, istituzioni per l’orientamento ed un concorso di idee, hanno l’occasione di seguire a incontri e workshop con esperti del settore educativo, dell’imprenditoria, dell’arte e di poter partecipare a viaggi-esperienza all’estero. Questo progetto ha come scopo principale la costruzione delle condizioni per far emergere le capacità potenziali di ciascuno, che offrano ai giovani opportunità di orientamento e crescita, di costruzione consapevole del proprio progetto di vita.

Last 14 March we laid the foundation stone of this structure, in the presence of the founder Andrea Bocelli and the Vice-President ABF Veronica Berti, together with the supporter friends of the project Maria Manetti Shrem, Family Stefano Ricci and Simona Zito, General Manager Chopard Italia.

Alongside with these interventions, we are carrying out the Digital Lab, a project that leads to normal schools and schools in pediatric hospitals a library full of digital devices – ABF TeachBus - to support education, but not only: ABF is committed to training and putting into practice the figure of the Atelierista, a highly qualified professional, which is responsible for following teachers and students in learning by doing of digital literacy. In our headquarters of the San Firenze Complex we have activated the ABF GlobaLab, vocational laboratory for young people between 16 and 25 years.

Children, selected through schools, institutions for orientation and a competition of ideas, have the opportunity to follow meetings and workshops with experts of the educational field, entrepreneurship, art and are able to participate in travel-experience abroad.

This project has as its main purpose the construction of conditions to bring out the potential capabilities of everyone, offering young people opportunities for guidance and growth, conscious construction of their own life plan.

ABF è un laboratorio vivo, in continua evoluzione, dove l’obiettivo comune è quello di creare opportunità di crescita per chi si trova in condizioni di svantaggio economico e sociale, garantendo l’accesso ad un’educazione equa e di qualità in linea con il goal 4.7 dell’Agenda 2030 delle Nazioni Unite (Education for sustainable development and global citizenship). La Andrea Bocelli Foundation è fatta di persone che insieme scrivono storie di empowerment, perché come dice il nostro fondatore “da soli si può tanto, ma insieme si può molto di più”.

If you had to describe in a few words, the soul of ABF? ABF is a living laboratory, constantly evolving, where the common goal is to create opportunities for growth for those who find themselves in conditions of economic and social disadvantage, ensuring access to a fair and quality education in line with the goal 4.7 of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (Education for sustainable development and global citizenship). The Andrea Bocelli Foundation is made up of people who write empowerment stories together, because, as our founder says “da soli si può tanto, ma insieme si può molto di più” (you can do so much on your own, but together you can much more).

250 chilometri dal Corno d’Africa, a quasi 400 dalle coste d’Arabia, unico luogo di sosta lungo le grandi rotte di navigazione dall’India verso il Mediterraneo, multiculturale porta d’ingresso al Mar Rosso, sorge Socotra, isola straordinaria, affascinante, misteriosa e poco conosciuta, che solo di recente ha aperto le sue porte al turismo internazionale.

ocotra, an extraordinary and fascinating island 250 kilometers from the Horn of Africa, almost 400 from the coast of Arabia. It is the only place to stop along the great navigation routes from India to the Mediterranean and a multicultural gateway to the Red Sea. Fascinating, mysterious and little known, which only recently opened its doors to international tourism.

Socotra è forse il posto più straordinario al mondo. Abitata da un popolo dalle origini antiche e diviso in un centinaio di tribù, un sangue misto di indiani, africani, arabi, greci e portoghesi, che parlano una lingua di origine sud-semitica senza scrittura. È straordinaria anche per il suo isolamento, che l’ha portata praticamente intatta da millenni fino al 1999, quando è stato aperto il suo piccolissimo aeroporto. In lingua sanscrita Socotra significa Isola della Felicità. Nel 2003 ha ottenuto il riconoscimento di Riserva umana e della biosfera e dal 2008 fa parte delle meraviglie UNESCO, da tutelare come Patrimonio dell’Umanità. Il suo lungo isolamento ha favorito la conservazione di piante “fossili”, di relitti botanici, appartenenti ad altre ere geologiche, dalle caratteristiche alquanto bizzarre, che tanti definiscono aliene. Incenso, diverse specie di aloe, alberi succulenti giganti, melograni, alberi di mirra e cetriolo che crescono selvaggi tra le dune e i terreni aridi. La vera attrazione di Socotra però sono la rosa del deserto, che con la sua forma particolare ricorda la zampa di un elefante, e l’albero del sangue di drago. un arbusto che risale a più di 300 anni fa e prende il nome dalla sua suggestiva resina di colore rosso, detta proprio sangue di drago, che crea uno spettacolo visivo spontaneo unico sulla Terra. Gli abitanti utilizzano questa sostanza naturale come colorante per tingere la ceramica e nelle medicinale tradizionali. Sull’isola dello Yemen convivono 192 specie di uccelli, 253 specie di coralli che formano la barriera corallina, 730 specie di pesci costieri e 300 specie di granchi, aragoste e gamberetti: lo zigolo di Socotra, il granchio fantasma, il cormorano di Socotra, l’uccello solare di Socotra, l’avvoltoio egiziano, la tartaruga caretta sono solo alcuni degli esemplari presenti.

Socotra is probably one of the most fascinating place existing.

Inhabited by people of ancient origins and divided into a hundred tribes, a mixed blood of Indians, Africans, Arabs, Greeks and Portuguese, who speak a language of South-Semitic origin without a written language. It is also extraordinary for its isolation, which has brought it virtually intact for millennia until 1999, when its tiny airport was opened. In Sanskrit language, Socotra means Island of Happiness. In 2003, the island received recognition of human reserve and biosphere, and since 2008 is part of the UNESCO wonders, implying that it needs to be to be protected as a World Heritage Site.

Its long isolation has favored the conservation of “fossil” plants, of botanical wrecks, belonging to other geological eras, with rather bizarre characteristics, which many define as alien. Incense, different species of aloe, giant succulent trees, pomegranates, myrrh trees and cucumbers growing wild among the dunes and arid soils. However, the real attractions of Socotra are the desert rose, which, with its particular shape, recalls the foot of an elephant, and the dragon blood tree, a shrub that dates back more than 300 years ago, and takes its name from its striking red resin, called dragon’s blood, which creates a unique spontaneous visual spectacle on Earth. The inhabitants use this natural substance as a method of dying ceramics and it is also implied in traditional medicines. On the island of Yemen live 192 species of birds, 253 species of coral that form the coral reef, 730 species of coastal fish and 300 species of crabs, lobsters and shrimps: the bunting of Socotra, the ghost crab, the cormorant of Socotra, the solar bird of Socotra, the Egyptian vulture, the Caretta turtle are just some of the specimens present.

Dal 2018 vi si sono insediati gli Emirati Arabi Uniti, che, senza aver mai ufficialmente reclamato l’isola, la controllano di fatto economicamente e militarmente, fornendole energia elettrica h24 nella capitale, carburante, aiuti alimentari e sanitari.

Oltre che ad essere una destinazione molto promettente da un punto di vista turistico, Socotra è soprattutto un avamposto strategico per controllare i flussi commerciali che transitano dal golfo di Aden da e per il Mar Rosso.

Since 2018, the United Arab Emirates have settled there, and, without having officially reclaimed the island, effectively control it both economically and militarily, supplying it with 24-hour electricity in the capital, fuel, food and health aid. Apart from being a very promising destination from a touristic point of view, Socotra is, above all, a strategic outpost to control the trade flows transiting from the Gulf of Aden to and from the Red Sea.

L’isola è nota sin dall’antichità grazie a personaggi quali Virgilio, che si riferiva all’oasi con il termine Panchaia (l’isola dalle sabbie fertili d’incenso profumato), a Filostrato di Lemmo, che la nominava parlando dell’araba fenice, l’uccello mitologico che risorge dalle proprie ceneri grazie al magico incenso di socotra, e secoli anche l’esploratore Marco Polo.

The island has been known since ancient times thanks to characters such as Virgil, who referred to Socotra with the term Panchaia (the island with the fertile sands of fragrant incense), Philostratus of Lemmus, who named it while talking about the phoenix, the mythological bird that rises from its ashes thanks to the magic incense of the isle, and centuries also the explorer Marco Polo.

COME RAGGIUNGERE SOCOTRA Socotra è un luogo difficile, remoto, faticoso da raggiungere.

Ad oggi, l’unico modo per arrivarci in maniera sicura con passaporto occidentale è tramite volo charter umanitario con partenza da Abu Dhabi. L’obbiettivo numero uno del volo resta ovviamente quello di portare aiuti umanitari sull’isola, ma di fatto sembra vengano autorizzati 90 turisti a settimana.

In quanto charter non è possibile prenotare utilizzando i consueti siti di ricerca voli: il biglietto va quindi acquistato tramite agenzia o intermediari e si aggira intorno ai 780€ (850$ a/r). Il viaggio evita accuratamente lo spazio aereo yemenita, sorvolando solo Emirati, Oman e Mar Arabico.

Il consiglio è di evitare il classico viaggio fai da te e rivolgersi a professionisti del settore turistico. Tra le tante realtà che si occupano di organizzare viaggi a Socotra c’è Welcome to Socotra, fondata da due ragazzi italiani arrivati sull’isola nel 2014, ma su internet è facile trovare altri organi competenti così da godersi una vacanza su quest’isola mozzafiato senza pensieri e stress.

HOW TO REACH SOCOTRA Socotra is a difficult, remote, tiring place to reach. Presently, the only way to get there safely with a Western passport is via humanitarian charter flight from Abu Dhabi. The number one aim of the flight is, obviously, to bring humanitarian aid to the island, but in fact it seems that 90 tourists are allowed a week.

As a charter, it is not possible to book a flight using the usual search sites: the ticket needs to be purchased through agencies or intermediaries, and is around 780 € (850$ a/r).

The trip carefully avoids Yemeni airspace, flying over only the Emirates, Oman and the Arabian Sea. A useful advice is to avoid the classic DIY trip and rely on tourism industry professionals. Among the many companies that organize trips to Socotra, there is Welcome to Socotra, founded by two Italian guys arrived on the island in 2014, but on the internet it is easy to find other competent bodies so as to enjoy a holiday on this breathtaking island, without any thoughts or stress.

Un viaggio a Socotra non è tuttavia adatto a tutti. Qui non esistono resort di lusso, ma solo cinque alberghi con servizi molto spartani, che portano a preferire una tenda a pieno contatto con la natura incontaminata. Per raggiungere alcuni dei luoghi più belli dell’isola è necessario fare dei brevi trekking su sentieri rocciosi e non segnalati.

La copertura internet è praticamente inesistente e non c’è mai elettricità fuori Hadibu (piccolo agglomerato urbano e capoluogo dell’isola), se non quella dell’accendisigari delle jeep. Anche l’offerta in termini di cibo è molto limitata: si mangia pesce e riso quasi tutti i giorni, o in alternativa pasta, pane, insalata di verdure, carne di capra o pollo una volta a settimana. La scelta alimentare a Socotra è limitatissima e bisogna adattarsi a mangiare quello che si trova sul mercato.

Ad esempio i frutti facilmente reperibili sono solo mele, arance e a volte banane e anguria.

However, a trip to Socotra is not suitable for everyone.

There are no luxury resorts, but only five hotels with very basic services, which lead to prefer a tent in full contact with unspoiled nature. To reach some of the most beautiful locations on the island, it is necessary to do some short trekking on rocky and not marked paths.

Internet is practically non-existent, and there is never electricity outside Hadibu (a small urban agglomeration and capital of the island), apart from that of the cigarette lighter of the jeep. Food supply is also very limited: you eat fish and rice almost every day, or alternatively pasta, bread, vegetable salad, goat meat or chicken once a week. The choice of food in Socotra is very limited, and you have to adapt to eat what you can find on the market. For example, easily available fruits are only apples, oranges and, sometimes, bananas and watermelon.

Se si riunissero in unico luogo darebbero vita al 41° stato al mondo per numero di abitanti e al 38° più ricco (su più di 190 nazioni esistenti). Sebbene il nomadismo digitale non sia un fenomeno così recente – il termine “digital nomad” appare per la prima volta in una ricerca accademica del 1997 – è solo in questi anni che sta interessando una grossa fetta della popolazione. Questo è dovuto al fatto che molti lavori d’ufficio possono fare al PC e che i dati di piccole o grandi aziende sono accessibili ovunque via cloud.

In case digital nomads decided to meet in one place, they would create the 41st most populous state in the world and the 38th richest state (out of more than 190 existing nations). Although digital nomadism is not such a recent phenomenon, - the term “digital nomad” appeared for the first time in a 1997 academic research - it is only in these years that a large part of the population is becoming interested in it. This is due to the fact that many office jobs can be done online, on the computer, and that the data of small or large companies are accessible anywhere via cloud.

Ma non è solo questo: è cambiata la mentalità. Le generazioni dei Millennial e quella Z se da un lato hanno molte incertezze, dall’altro sono molto più aperte e più libere.

But it is not only this: the mentality has changed. Millennial and Generation Z have many uncertainties, but they sure are much more open and free than previous generations.

ggi sono molte le persone che riescono a lavorare in smart working e le procedure per ottenere visti sono sempre più semplici. iI remote working è una modalità di lavoro che appare normale e, molto spesso, addirittura preferita rispetto alla tradizionale concezione dell’attività in sede. Secondo le stime fatte dall’Associazione Italiana Nomadi Digitali - ETS a fine 2022, i digital nomad nel mondo sarebbero 35 milioni, con un reddito pro capite medio di 1.800 $ al mese.

Remote working is a way of working that seems normal and, very often, even preferred to the traditional concept of the office activity. According to estimates made by the Italian Association of Digital Nomads - ETS at the end of 2022, digital nomads in the world would be 35 million, with an average per capita income of $ 1,800 per month.

In più c’è lo spirito dell’uomo, migratorio per natura. Il bisogno di spostarsi, viaggiare e muoversi è innato. E poi tra le cause di questa crescita verticale dei lavoratori nomadi, anche la pandemia che tra il 2020 e il 2021 ha trasformato la vita di molte persone e di conseguenza anche delle aziende, molte delle quali hanno introdotto lo smart working.

In addition, there is the spirit of mankind, migratory by nature.

The need to roam, travel and move is innate. Alongside, among the causes of this vertical growth of nomadic workers, there is also the pandemic, that between 2020 and 2021 has transformed many people’s lives and consequently also companies lives, many of which have introduced remote working.

La categoria in cui si trovano più nomadi digitali è senz’altro quella dei lavoratori indipendenti. I settori prevalenti sono: tecnologia dell’informazione; servizi creativi; educazione; consulenza, coaching e ricerca; vendite, marketing e pubbliche relazioni; finanza e contabilità.

Per quanto riguarda i lavoratori dipendenti che possono intraprendere lo stile di vita del nomadismo digitale, i più fortunati sono gli impiegati delle aziende big.

As for the employees who can undertake the lifestyle of digital nomadism, the luckiest ones are the employees of big companies.

Ma si può andare ovunque a lavorare? In realtà no: a parte in Europa, dove ci si può spostare liberamente come cittadini dell’area UE, altrove servono dei visti speciali e sempre più governi stanno mettendo a punto visti specifici per nomadi digitali, come per esempio il Brasile, il Portogallo e il Costa Rica.

Ecco come funzionano alcuni di questi.

In Brasile esistono norme per la concessione di visti e permessi di soggiorno temporanei per gli immigrati che non hanno un rapporto di lavoro in Brasile e la cui attività professionale può essere svolta a distanza per un periodo massimo di un anno, prorogabile per un periodo uguale. Ma dallo scorso anno il governo brasiliano ha disciplinato la concessione di visti temporanei per i nomadi digitali. Nel caso di un soggiorno fino a 90 giorni, il nomade digitale può entrare nel Paese come visitatore (turista), e deve soddisfare i requisiti adeguati alla sua condizione migratoria in base alla sua nazionalità. Per richiedere il visto, l’interessato deve presentare all’autorità consolare alcuni documenti che si possono reperire online.

Il Costa Rica, quindi, da un lato offre la possibilità di aprire un conto bancario in loco, cancella le imposte sul reddito, ritiene valida la patente di guida del Paese d’origine e non chiede tasse d’importazione su computer e altre attrezzature per il lavoro a distanza. Ma d’altra parte i richiedenti devono dimostrare di avere un reddito mensile di 3.000 dollari al mese (o 4.000 se ha una famiglia). Essendo un piccolo Paese, di 5 milioni di abitanti, il Costa Rica mira, per stessa ammissione del governo, ad aumentare la sua popolazione proprio grazie ai lavoratori nomadi.

Il sud est asiatico è da sempre una delle destinazioni preferite dai digital nomad. Costo della vita basso, temperature costanti, sicurezza. E Bali è pronta a diventare la capitale mondiale dei nomadi digitali, potendo contare su una buona diffusione del wi-fi e la sua splendida natura.

Il governo indonesiano ha deciso di sviluppare un visto per nomadi digitali, che può durare dai 60 ai 180 giorni. Il visto si chiama B211a ed è detto anche “socio-culturale”. Chi entra nel Paese chiedendo il visto per 60 giorni, può chiedere di estenderlo per altre due volte, consentendo così di fatto di poter stare a lavorare per sei mesi. Pare che il governo sia al lavoro per renderlo ancora più lungo, ma già sei mesi non sono pochi. Si richiede online, bisogna dimostrare di avere 2.000 $ di fondi, il biglietto di ritorno e si paga una tassa di ingresso.

In Brazil, there are rules for granting visas and temporary residence permits for immigrants who do not have an employment contract in Brazil and whose professional activity can be carried out remotely, for a maximum period of one year, extendable for an equal period.

But since last year, the Brazilian government has regulated the granting of temporary visas for digital nomads. In the case of a stay of up to 90 days, the digital nomad can enter the country as a visitor (tourist), and must meet the appropriate requirements to his migration status according to his nationality. To apply for a visa, the person concerned must present to the consular authority some documents that can be found online.

Con una quota di iscrizione di 1.000 ringgit (220 $), il programma accoglie marketer e sviluppatori digitali, creatori di contenuti e professionisti delle tecnologie dell’informazione (IT) da tutto il mondo. Per molti Paesi (inclusa l’Italia) non è necessario un visto se non si superano i 90 giorni di permanenza.

Si può rimanere nel Paese fino a 12 mesi, invece, grazie a un pass digitale. I candidati devono avere un reddito minimo annuale di 24.000 $ e dimostrare di avere un contratto di lavoro attivo di tre mesi con un’azienda straniera o malese. Più contratti di breve durata conteranno per il raggiungimento del requisito minimo. Le persone a carico, come coniugi e figli, possono essere aggiunte alla domanda al costo annuale di 500 ringgit a persona. Il pass sarà inoltre rinnovabile per un altro anno.

Il Portogallo è uno dei tanti Paesi europei che hanno realizzato un visto per i digital nomad, per massimo cinque mesi. In questo caso, è da sottolineare che il visto è rivolto ai cittadini di Paesi extra UE, ma è un esempio di come anche l’Europa stia cercando di attirare nuova forza lavoro, cittadini e spese da parte di una forza lavoro che a quanto pare sarà sempre più numerosa.

In this case, it should be noted that the visa is addressed to citizens of non-EU countries, but it is an example of how Europe is also trying to attract new employees, citizens and expenses from a workforce that apparently will be increasingly numerous.

LNDC Animal Protection is celebrating its 73rd anniversary and launching a new campaign that encapsulates the urgency of fighting for a planet where every living being has the right to life, dignity, and freedom. Renowned Roman actor and voice-over artist Massimo Wertmuller, a long-standing face of the Association, lends his voice to the campaign, stating, “Every animal has a dignity that deserves the same respect we offer to our fellow human beings. Too many of them are voiceless, which is why I want to lend mine alongside one of Italy’s most authoritative animal welfare associations to send a universal message: ‘Every animal should play its part because we are all animals!’”
