W

hat you are about to read is a special issue, in many ways. It was conceived and written remotely during the lockdown, and it sees the light in a new and unexpected situation for us all, where nature has revealed all of its strength, taking the spaces back in the cities - finally freed from the chaos of traffic jam and smog. That’s the reason why the nature is the main subject of this issue - the common thread of stories that talk about “green tourism”: beginning with the sustainable and open air hospitality of the Human Company; continuing with wine, the vineyards nectar; then walking on tiptoe in the quiet of the largest private park in Florence, where rises up the Four Seasons; then reaching the most remote and uncontaminated land on the planet, the Australian Northern Territory. For us, protecting the environment is not a wish but an essential need. Our properties, which we have consciously selected, also prove it. We hope that a future full of love, respect and beauty awaits us. Enjoy the reading.

uello che state per leggere è un numero speciale, sotto molti punti di vista. È stato pensato e scritto da remoto e si inserisce in un contesto per noi nuovo e inaspettato, in cui la natura si è manifestata con tutta la sua forza, riappropriandosi degli spazi nelle città scevre dal caos delle auto e dallo smog. Non è quindi un caso che sia proprio lei, la natura, il tema portante di questo numero – il fil rouge di storie che parlano di turismo green, con l’ospitalità sostenibile e open air di Human Company, proseguendo con il nettare delle vigne, il vino, entrando in punta di piedi nella quiete del parco privato più grande di Firenze, sede del Four Seasons, per arrivare nella terra più remota e incontaminata del pianeta, il Northern Territory australiano. Per noi la tutela dell’ambiente non è una velleità ma un’esigenza imprescindibile. Lo raccontano anche i nostri immobili, che abbiamo selezionato in maniera consapevole. S

iberian, born in 1978, at a very young age Ludmilla Radchenko arrived in Italy on holidays and she was immediately catapulted on Italian TV shows: Paperissima, La sai l’ultima?, Passaparola, the reality show La Talpa and then the experience as TV presenter with On The Road. Today she is married to Matteo Viviani, one of the journalists of the TV program “Le Iene”, and she is the mother of two children. After TV shows and fashion catwalks, she dedicates herself again to her first passion: painting.

iberiana, classe 1978, Ludmilla Radchenko arriva in Italia da giovanissima per le vacanze e subito viene catapultata in tv: Paperissima, La sai l’ultima? e quindi Passaparola, il reality La Talpa e la conduzione di On The Road. Oggi è sposata con la “iena” Matteo Viviani ed è madre di due figli. Dopo le apparizioni televisive e le passerelle di moda è tornata a dedicarsi alla sua prima passione: la pittura.

What does the art represent to you and when did you first become interested in it?

“For me, art is a combination between technique, which attracts the human eye, and communication, which touches the soul and questions the content. In art I found my evolution and a way of expressing my thought. I have been painting since I was 6 years old, I attended the art school and then I graduated in fashion design in Russia. Here in Italy, my real artistic activity began 11 years ago. My past life as model and TV personality was a wonderful experience for the girl I was. But art is my aim and I couldn’t do without it now.”

Your pop art, better defined as “pop realism”, focus on the western consumer world. Where did this choice originate from?

“I was born in Siberia, in a Soviet country hermetically closed towards the global consumer world. By contrast, I was immediately attracted to the strong colours, the big cities, the advertising world. So, I started composing my first works contaminating photos of cities like London, New York, Paris.

Through objects/details I tell a story, ironically expressing a problem or simply my vision of the world. Compared to the pop we are familiar with, which renounced the content by giving priority to the object or an iconic subject, mine it’s a narrative pop art. This is why I call it POP Realism, because it feeds on real life.”

Cosa rappresenta l’arte per te e quando ti ci sei avvicinata?

“L’arte per me è un connubio tra la tecnica che attrae l’occhio umano e la comunicazione che tocca l’animo, il contenuto messo in discussione. Nell’arte ho trovato la mia evoluzione e un modo di esprimere il mio pensiero. Dipingo da quando ho 6 anni, ho fatto la scuola artistica e poi mi sono laureata in fashion design in Russia. Qui in Italia l’attività vera e propria è cominciata 11 anni fa. Il mio passato in tv e come modella è stata una bellissima esperienza per la ragazzina che ero. Ma l’arte è la mia destinazione e non potrei ora farne a meno”.

La tua pop art, meglio definita “pop realism”, volge la propria attenzione al mondo consumistico occidentale. Da dove ha origine questa scelta?

“Sono nata in Siberia, paese sovietico così ermetico nei confronti del mondo del consumo.

Ma io da subito, per contrapposizione, sono stata attratta dai colori forti, dalle grandi metropoli, dal mondo dell’advertising.

Così ho cominciato a comporre le mie prime opere, contaminando le foto di città come Londra, New York, Parigi. Attraverso oggetti/dettagli io racconto una storia, esprimendo con ironia un problema o semplicemente la mia visione del mondo. La mia pop art è narrativa rispetto al pop che conosciamo, che rinunciava al contenuto dando la priorità all’oggetto o ad un soggetto iconico. Per questo la chiamo POP Realism, perché si nutre della vita reale”.

Just out of curiosity: to whom and when did you sell your first work?

Una curiosità: a chi e quando hai venduto la tua prima opera?

“To a collector of the first gallery where I exhibited. For me, it was an emotion to know that someone was starting to appreciate my “thought” transferred to canvas.”

“A un collezionista della prima galleria dove ho esposto. Per me è stata un’emozione sapere che qualcuno aveva cominciato ad apprezzare un mio “pensiero” trasferito su tela”.

Which are the artists you admire the most and from whom did you draw your inspiration?

Quali sono gli artisti che più ammiri e da chi hai tratto ispirazione?

“Many artists contributed to my research: in the composition there’s a bit of Salvador Dalì, on a chromatic level a little of Van Gogh’s contrast, Gauguin’s softness, Warhol’s graphics, a little of Kandinsky and Rotella’s dynamism too. Art is the imitation of the great masters through one’s own interpretation key. If it is unique and recognizable, it is always appreciated.”

“Sono molti gli artisti che hanno contribuito alla mia ricerca: nella composizione un po’ di Salvador Dalì, a livello cromatico un po’ del contrasto di Van Gogh, la morbidezza di Gauguin, la grafica di Warhol, un po’ di Kandinsky e la dinamicità di Rotella.

L’arte è un’imitazione dei grandi maestri con la propria chiave di interpretazione. Se è unica e riconoscibile viene sempre apprezzata”.

You reproduce your artworks stamping them on cashmere and silk scarves. How did your “Fullart” project come about?

Applichi le stampe delle tue opere su sciarpe e foulard di cachemire e seta. Come nasce il tuo progetto “Fullart”?

“My Pop Art can be put into different fields: from design, to food but above all to fashion.

I often works with different companies and in collaboration with them I create capsule collections, contaminating their existing products with my graphics. The cashmere & silk scarf is the leading project of my Siberian Soup Fullart brand. People fall in love with my product because they feel it very personal, thanks both to the adding of their perfume and to the design chosen accordingly to their colour preferences or their own personality. I didn’t mean to, but I also became the designer of my own brand.”

“La mia PopArt si applica in diverse sfere: dal design, al cibo ma soprattutto alla moda. Spesso mi capitano collaborazioni con diverse aziende con le quali creo le capsule collection, contaminando i loro prodotti già esistenti con le mie grafiche. Il foulard in cashmere & seta è il progetto di punta del mio brand Siberian Soup Fullart.

Le persone si innamorano del mio prodotto perché lo sentono molto personale, tra il loro profumo impregnato e il disegno che scelgono secondo i propri colori o la propria personalità. Senza volere sono diventata anche la designer del mio marchio”.

What is the name of the series to which the artwork reproduced on our cover belongs? Would you like to explain its meaning to our readers?

Come si chiama la collezione dalla quale è tratta l’opera della nostra copertina? Ti va di spiegarne il significato ai lettori?

“In these days of social and economic chaos, we are forced to face constant provocations. It’s up to us to decide where stands that limit that allows us, on one side, to maintain logic and rationality and, on the other, to remain light, witty and above all positive. The artwork on the cover is called Dolce Banana 150x150. Warhol’s renowned banana becomes the bullet of a gun, which suddenly shoots and makes the viewer reflect on the meaning of his actions and reactions. This work is part of my latest series called “KOMPOT” (a typical Russian drink made of many fruits boiled all together in a single container) and it represents a lot of what I have become today, both conceptually and technically. I consider this series a new period of evolution, even if I’m already working on the next one: VOYAGE. Never stop yourself.”

“Nel caos sociale ed economico attuale, siamo costretti ad affrontare continue provocazioni. Sta a noi decidere dov’è il limite che ci permette da una parte di mantenere logica e razionalità e dall’altra di rimanere leggeri, spiritosi e soprattutto positivi. L’opera in copertina si chiama Dolce Banana. La celebre banana di Warhol diventa proiettile di una pistola, che spara all’improvviso e fa riflettere lo spettatore sul significato delle proprie azioni e reazioni. Questa opera fa parte della mia ultima serie denominata “KOMPOT” ( una bevanda russa a base di tanti frutti bolliti in un unico contenitore) e rappresenta molto di ciò che sono diventata oggi, sia a livello concettuale che di tecnica. La considero un nuovo periodo di evoluzione, anche se sto già lavorando alla prossima serie: VOYAGE. Non bisogna MAI fermarsi”.

Pop.Art.Studio Pop.Art.Studio is Ludmilla Radchenko’s Milanese location, where it’s possible hosting artworks and setting small events such as vernissages and art exhibitions. It was opened in March 2009, the year during which Ludmilla’s first artistic projects blossomed by her talented artistic hand. As time passes, Pop.Art.Studio grows in small steps, and thanks to various collaborations it expands, touching transversal areas such as: design, technology, fashion, furniture.

Since 2012, fashion has taken on an increasingly significant position in the activities of this art factory: the famous FullArts

by Ludmilla Radchenko come alive, that is the reproductions of artworks on fine fabrics.

The ART TO WEAR project is obtaining a great success among the art and fashion enthusiasts. To date, it is able to offer customers a wide range of services, thanks to its valiant partners.

Pop.Art.Studio è lo spazio milanese di Ludmilla Radchenko, in grado di ospitare opere e piccoli eventi come vernissage e mostre d’arte. Nasce nel marzo 2009, periodo durante il quale sbocciano i primi progetti artistici realizzati per mano dell’artista e fondatrice.

Col passare del tempo Pop.Art.Studio cresce a piccoli passi, grazie a diverse collaborazioni si espande, toccando aree trasversali come il design, la tecnologia, la moda, l’arredamento.

A material which waits to be shaped par excellence, nowadays it can be modelled with surprisingly docility thanks to the most recent innovations, which make its available to the most original choices or, why not, to the more traditional one too. As a painting lover, I like to think about marble as a blank canvas on which to free one’s creativity, in order to narrate and telling oneself through very different applications and styles, although these ones perhaps are always conjoined by the subtle pleasure for a luxury with an ancient and contemporary flavour.

Uno dei materiali più eleganti di sempre, Il marmo, la “pietra splendente”, torna a emergere con la sua raffinata esclusività, affermandosi come must indiscusso nelle tendenze d’arredamento per il 2020.

Pietra d’eccellenza, abito e abitazione del design e dell’architettura d’ogni tempo, ritrova oggi una speciale centralità nelle scelte decorative d’interni e non solo.

Ne sapevano qualcosa i greci, che sapientemente sigillarono nella parola “màrmaon” la caratteristica principale di questo prezioso materiale, la solida ed elegante capacità di lasciar penetrare e riflettere la luce in modo unico e irripetibile. Materia in attesa di forma per eccellenza, grazie alle più recenti innovazioni si lascia modellare con sorprendente docilità, rendendo il suo impiego disponibile alle scelte più originali o, perché no, tradizionali. Amante della pittura, mi piace infatti pensare al marmo come ad una tela bianca sulla quale liberare la propria creatività, raccontando e raccontandosi attraverso applicazioni e stili molto diversi tra loro, seppur forse sempre accomunati dal sottile piacere per un lusso dal sapore antico e contemporaneo.

Forget about the serious or monumental image of marble. From Cattelan Italia to Riva, passing through Kartell, Itamoby and many others, let yourself be seduced by the technical and aesthetic performance of this versatile material, revisited with extreme fluidity and originality. Evergreen binomials such as the one with gold and brass, with a classic and elegant vocation, alternates with less familiar but undoubtedly effective reinterpretations. We especially refers to the wood, and to the minimalist and modern spaces in which marble finds a natural place at the centre of wide-ranging, almost scenographic visions, adding them a touch of preciousness.

The abundance of reflections and chromatic effects makes this stone capable of dialoguing with different typology of surfaces, shapes and materials. The matching colour palette we could use it’s going to be extremely various and varied, just like the many nuances typical of the limestone. The characteristics of the marble depend greatly on the degree of its impurity / purity, indeed: the presence of clay, sand and iron lends accentuated and varied veins, while the absence of these substances gives the typical whiteness of the most precious marbles, such as the Carrara one.

Il risotto ai crostacei e champagne viene realizzato con l’intento di rispettare il pesce, vero protagonista del piatto, spesso purtroppo troppo cotto nel classico risotto di mare dal quale trae ispirazione.

Per questo motivo, in questa variante i crostacei vengono aggiunti solo alla fine, così hanno modo di cuocere solo il tempo necessario per sprigionare tutti i loro profumi e aromi, esaltati dalla sapidità dello champagne, e mantenere intatto il gusto del mare.

Michelin-starred Chef Vito Mollica’s Seafood Risotto with raw crustaceans

PLATING AND PRESENTATION

This champagne risotto with raw crustaceans has been created with the purpose of respecting firstly the fish, which is the true protagonist of the dish. Sometimes, in the classic version of the seafood risotto, from which this recipe draws its inspiration, the fish may result overcooked. For this reason, in this variant the crustaceans are added only at the end, so they’re cooked only the time necessary to release all their fragrances and aromas, which are enhanced by the sapidity of the champagne, and to maintain the taste of the sea intact.

IMPIATTAMENTO

Garnish the plates with some drops of parsley sauce and beetroot sauce. Add the chopped and flavoured crustaceans; complete the plate adding the warm rice. Garnish with the edible flowers and serve immediately.

Con la salsa al prezzemolo e la salsa alla rapa rossa fare delle gocce nei piatti. Aggiungervi i crostacei tagliati e conditi e completare il piatto con il risotto ben caldo.

Servire immediatamente guarnendo con fiori eduli.

PREPARATION For the risotto: Cut the onion into brunoise and brown it in a saucepan in oil and butter. Add the rice and toast for 2 minutes. - Simmer with white wine until reduced. - Pour a little bit of water and let it dry for 2 minutes. - Add the hot bisque and finish to cook the rice.

- Add the chopped crustaceans, confit tomatoes, chives and the grated lemon zest. - Add the whisked butter, stir and serve in the copper pot.

For the butter: Soften the butter at room temperature and flavour with the lemon, lime and orange zest and the grated ginger.

For the scampi: Remove the scampi shells. - Flavour with oil, salt, chives and citrus zest.

For the red prawn: Remove the red prawn shells. - Flavour with oil, salt, chives and citrus zest.

For the lobster: Bake the whole lobster in steam oven at 68 degrees Celsius for 13 minutes. - Cool down in water and ice for 3 minutes maximum. - Remove the lobster shell and slice. - Marinate the sliced lobster in oil and lemon zest. - Flavour with salt and pepper.

For the slipper lobsters: Spread out the slipper lobsters and put in the blast chiller. Carefully cut top side of the shells lengthwise. - Remove the shells. - Flavour with oil, salt, chives and citrus zest.

PREPARAZIONE Per il risotto: Tagliare la cipolla a brunoise e farla imbiondire in casseruola in olio e il burro. - Aggiungere il riso e far tostare per 2 minuti. - Sfumare con il vino bianco. - Bagnare con acqua e far asciugare per circa 2 minuti. - Bagnare il risotto con la bisque bollente e portare a cottura il riso. - Aggiungere il battuto di crostacei, i pomodori confit, l’erba cipollina e la scorza del limone grattugiato. - Mantecare con il burro di mantecatura e servire nel pentolino di rame.

Per il burro: Far ammorbidire il burro a temperatura ambiente e condirlo con le zeste di limone, lime, arancio e Il ginger grattugiato.

Per gli scampi: Privare gli scampi del carapace. - Condire con olio, sale, erba cipollina e zeste di agrumi.

Per i gamberi: Privare i gamberi del carapace. - Condire con olio, sale, erba cipollina e zeste di agrumi.

Per l’astice: Cuocere l’astice per intero in forno a vapore a 68°C per 13 minuti. - Freddare in acqua e ghiaccio per massimo 3 minuti. - Eliminare il carapace e sporzionare. - Marinare con olio e la scorza dei limone. - Condire con sale e pepe.

Per la cicala: Stendere e abbattere le cicale. - Tagliare le estremità del carapace. - Privare i corpi del carapace. - Condire con olio, sale, erba cipollina e zeste di agrumi.

For the beetroot sauce: Mix the cooked beetroot with olive oil. - Add salt.

Per la rapa: Frullare le rape rosse cotte con l’olio EVO. - Salare.

For the parsley sauce: Put the parsley leaves in boiling salted water and cook for 5 minutes (or till the leaves are fully cooked). - Drain the cooked parsley leaves and cool down instantly in water and ice. - Drain one more time and mix with a little bit of cold water, until obtain a smooth sauce. - Filter the sauce with a tight links strainer. - Adjust in salt. - Put the sauce in a squeeze bottle.

Per la salsa: In una pentola con l’acqua bollente precedentemente salata, mettere a cuocere le foglie di prezzemolo, per circa 5 minuti, o fino a che le foglie non saranno ben cotte. - Scolare il prezzemolo dall’acqua e freddarlo immediatamente in acqua e ghiaccio.

he main consumers of wine are neither sommeliers nor oenologists. With her “Easywine method”, Cristiana Lauro explains the wine in a “pop” way, with a fun and pleasant rhythm, simple but not simplistic.

At the beginning, Cristiana started collaborating with the Gambero Rosso wine guide. Today she’s one of the most influential Italian opinion leader in this sector and brand ambassador for important labels, and she writes the food and wine section of the famous web journal Dagospia. She has already published her book “Delirium Tremens. Notes of a wine killer”.

Cristiana, how can you recount, describe a wine without using too many technical terms, typical of the sector, but without falling into banality?

“How can be possible recount, describe a wine without using a comprehensible terminology and within everyone’s reach? We need to eliminate unnecessary frills and go straight to the point.

Nobody mentions the fruit anymore while is describing a glass of wine, but the wine is made with grapes, which is, first of all, a fruit. Moreover, the area of its origins tells an interesting story about the grapes cultivation and the man’s wine production, which is often overlooked by the “experts”, who are focused on using metaphors and create incomprehensible combinations with semantic fields - incomprehensible especially to those who are not part of a restricted circle of specialists. I think it’s important to learn to understand when a wine is too young or too old, for example. Or to recognize the perfect drinking point which makes wine more enjoyable and good to match with a dish.”

Cristiana, come si racconta un vino senza usare troppi tecnicismi tipici del settore, ma senza scadere nella banalità?

“Come si può raccontare, descrivere un vino se non utilizzando terminologie comprensibili e a portata di tutti? Occorre eliminare inutili orpelli e andare al sodo. Nessuno nomina più il frutto quando descrive un bicchiere di vino, ma il vino si fa con l’uva che è, prima di tutto, un frutto. Inoltre il territorio di provenienza racconta una storia interessante sulla coltivazione delle uve e sulla produzione del vino per mano dell’uomo, cosa che spesso viene trascurata dagli “esperti”, tanto concentrati a utilizzare metafore e accostamenti a campi semantici incomprensibili, soprattutto a chi non fa parte di una cerchia ristretta di esperti della materia. Credo sia più importante imparare a capire quando un vino è troppo giovane o troppo vecchio, ad esempio. Oppure a riconoscere il perfetto punto di bevuta che lo rende più facilmente godibile e abbinabile al piatto”.

n your book, you go through the entire wine production chain: from the harvest to the label reading.

Would you give us some advice on matching?

“The sommeliers’ matching techniques are varied and very interesting to study.

However, it’s difficult, sometimes even acrobatic, to put them into practice.

To simplify without trivializing or neglecting anything, I always start with the colour matching. Red food – red wine, white food – white wine, rosé food – rosé wine (or light red). It may seem superficial, but it’s a starting point and it works. Then, if you want, you can deepen by checking the structure of the dish and the dominant flavours, but if you start with the chromatic matching, you are surely starting on the right foot. It’s a simple technique that does not deceive ourselves and it allows us to make an excellent impression in public.”

If had you to choose a wine and a dish, which would you choose?

“I’d answer you with an ex aequo between Bologna and Naples.

Tagliatelle pasta with Bolognese sauce or Zite pasta with Genoese sauce. My absolute favourite dishes. Simple, traditional and with few ingredients. What really matters is that the ingredients are good ones. I would match a Sangiovese di Romagna with the Tagliatelle pasta, while with the Zite pasta I would drink a Fiano from Avellino, with at least 4/5 years of aging.”

And for the aperitif?

“I prefer to drink sparkling wines. I like bubbles very much, they bring joy and suggest lightness. I also like Lambrusco as an aperitif.

Maybe because I’m from Emilia, so it is also an emotional bond.”

el tuo libro percorri un po’ tutta la filiera del vino: dalla vendemmia fino alla lettura dell’etichetta. Ci daresti qualche dritta sugli abbinamenti?

“Le tecniche di abbinamento utilizzate dai sommelier sono varie e molto interessanti da approfondire. Tuttavia metterle in pratica è difficile, talvolta acrobatico. Per semplificare senza banalizzare o trascurare nulla, io parto sempre dall’abbinamento cromatico. Cibo rosso-vino rosso, cibo bianco-vino bianco, cibo rosato-vino rosato (o rosso leggero). È un primo passo e funziona, anche se può sembrare superficiale. Poi, volendo, si può approfondire controllando la struttura del piatto e i sapori dominanti, ma intanto con l’abbinamento cromatico partiamo già col piede giusto. È una tecnica semplice che non delude e ci permette di fare ottime figure in pubblico”.

Se tu dovessi scegliere un vino e un piatto, quali sceglieresti?

“Ti rispondo con un ex aequo fra Bologna e Napoli. Tagliatelle al ragù Bolognese o Zite col sugo alla genovese. I miei piatti preferiti in assoluto.

Semplici, tradizionali e con pochi ingredienti. L’importante è che siano di quelli buoni, però. Alle prime abbino volentieri un Sangiovese di Romagna, mentre sulle zite alla genovese berrei un Fiano di Avellino con 4/5 anni di invecchiamento sulle spalle”.

E per l’aperitivo?

“Preferisco bere vini spumanti. Le bollicine mi piacciono molto, mettono allegria e indicano leggerezza. Anche il Lambrusco mi piace come aperitivo. Sarà che sono emiliana, quindi il legame è anche affettivo”.

Irony is a constant throughout your entire book. So much so that at some point we come to the chapter of the “enomonsters” (Italian pun which combines the word oenologist with monster). Who are these characters?

L’uso dell’ironia tra le pagine è costante. Tanto che a un certo punto si arriva al capitolo degli enomostri. Chi sono questi personaggi?

“Mostly those who exchange the wine for something else. But wine it’s a food, it’s a farming product created by the man’s technique and technology. As such, it should be considered. I do not understand someone’s attempts to rise it to a totem, to idolize it as a cult object. Some people are carried away so much that in addition to speaking an incomprehensible language, they are transformed into quite a caricatural characters, with gestures and repetitive, serial behaviours. They make me dying from laughing, I’m honest.”

“Una buona parte di quelli che scambiano il vino per qualcos’altro. Ma il vino è un alimento, un prodotto dell’agricoltura attraverso la tecnica e la tecnologia, per mano dell’uomo. Andrebbe considerato in quanto tale. Non capisco i tentativi da parte di qualcuno di farlo assurgere a totem, a oggetto di culto da idolatrare. Alcuni si fanno prendere la mano così tanto che oltre a parlare una lingua incomprensibile, si trasformano per gestualità e comportamenti ripetitivi, seriali in vere e proprie macchiette. Your brand owns a very strong history, to which you have been able to give a contemporary turn also through the use of social networks. Was it a strategic choice?

Il vostro brand ha una storia fortissima, a cui hai saputo dare una tendenza contemporanea anche attraverso l’uso dei social. È stata una scelta strategica?

“My grandfather was an innovator, a pioneer, destructuring and lightening the jacket. In the 1950s my father organized trunk shows outside Italy, he was the first one to do so. In this web era, I approached social media assuming the same characteristic attitude: adapt to the times and being forerunners. Each one in its own generation.”

“Mio nonno è stato un innovatore, un pioniere, destrutturando e alleggerendo la giacca. Negli anni ’50 mio padre organizzava i trunk show fuori dall’Italia, fu il primo a farlo. Io, nell’epoca del web, mi sono approcciato ai social per questa che è la nostra caratteristica: adattarsi ai tempi ed essere dei precursori. Ognuno nella propria generazione”.

Let’s talk about your atelier in Milan; how does a reality based on the concept of tradition fit into a metropolitan context based on contemporaneity?

Parliamo del vostro Atelier di Milano; come si inserisce una realtà basata sul concetto di tradizione in un contesto metropolitano basato sulla contemporaneità?

“When my father arrived in Milan in 1987, he opened his tailor’s shop in via Montenapoleone. It was a discreet place where the Milanese bourgeoisie went. In 2015, however, I opened a new shop window in via del Gesù, creating a double entrance thus. This is because the customer has changed. Nowadays, there is an international customer who wants to go around the fashion district.”

“Mio padre quando arrivò a Milano nel 1987 aprì la sartoria all’interno di un palazzo in via Montenapoleone. Era un luogo discreto dove si recava la borghesia meneghina. Nel 2015 io ho aperto invece una vetrina in via del Gesù, creando quindi un doppio ingresso.

Questo perché il cliente è cambiato. È un cliente internazionale che vuole girare nel quadrilatero della moda.

For three generations you have made of clothes customization something that goes beyond customer expectations. In your opinion, what do the clothes represent today?

Da tre generazioni avete fatto della personalizzazione degli abiti qualcosa che va oltre le aspettative del cliente. Secondo te, l’abito oggi cosa rappresenta?

“Buying clothes, it’s often just a hobby. Today there are many top-quality tailors but what’s important for us is the know-how, that is “how” you get to the final product, the service we give to the customer. The so-called one-to-one service, what I offer in Milan rather than what my sister Chiara offers in London.”

“Comprarsi un abito spesso è solo un hobby. Oggi ci sono tante sartorie di livello ma quello che per noi è importante è il know-how, cioè il “come” si arriva al prodotto finale, il servizio che si dà al cliente. Il servizio one-to-one, quello che offro io a Milano piuttosto che mia sorella Chiara a Londra”.

What’s the aspect you like the most in your work?

Qual è l’aspetto che ti piace di più nel tuo lavoro?

“The creative one. Making collections accessible to everyone. I do not believe in the importance of the logo, but rather in the quality of the garment. We do not want just to sell the Rubinacci typical style, but we also desire to follow our customers all around the world, helping them to build their personal style. We like that our faces are firmly associated to our brand. Today behind the big brands there’s no longer a person, a face, but there are holding companies. People sense it.”

“Il lato creativo. Rendere le collezioni accessibili a tutti. Non credo nell’importanza del logo, quanto nella qualità del capo. Non vogliamo solo vendere l’impronta Rubinacci, ma seguire anche i clienti in giro per il mondo, per la costruzione del loro stile personale. Amiamo mettere le nostre facce davanti al brand. Oggi se ci fate caso dietro ai grandi marchi non c’è più una persona, un volto, ci sono le holding. La gente questo lo percepisce”.

What’s the brand value of your company?

“Rubinacci’s brand value is certainly the ability to put ourselves on the line between innovation and creativity.”

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind if you think about fashion today?

“Today’s fashion is only a world full of passing trends. On the other hand, I want to remain a classic gentleman with style; through my videos, I teach people how to get dressed. It’s important people understand what’s really stand behind men’s fashion.”

“La moda di oggi è solo un mondo pieno di tendenze passeggere. Io invece voglio rimanere un classico gentleman nello stile; nei miei video insegno come ci si veste. Questo perché l’importante è che la gente capisca cosa sta davvero dietro la moda maschile”.

When you meet Lucia, an actress of rare and innate kindness from Ancona, you immediately notice the whole brightness of her talent.

She appears as proud and authentic as a woman from Almodóvar’s films, but she’s so classically sophisticated that she could have come out of Woody Allen’s movies too. Known by many for her participation to TV productions such as “I delitti del BarLume” (The BarLume murders) and “Una mamma imperfetta” (A flawed mum), it’s thank to the Comencini’s movie “Amori che non sanno stare al mondo” that Lucia was nominated for important awards, such as the one for the best leading actress at Golden Globes and for the Nastro d’Argento 2018. I met her after her theatrical performance “Smarrimento”, her first monologue where she plays a dramatically comic heroine, who involves and makes the audience think.

You always appear very centred, one “with a straight face” (quoting your TED speech); have you always been very selfconfident? What were your models?

Appari sempre molto centrata, una “con la faccia dritta” (cito il tuo discorso al TED); sei sempre stata molto sicura di te stessa?

“All of us take something from everywhere. Our role models are not all voluntary, chosen, selected and followed on purpose, a lot comes to us without seeking for it when we are young and it just shapes us. We were lucky then because we could watch movies with Monica Vitti or Anna Magnani just by turning randomly on the TV. When I was a child, I was struck by Melato’s voice, by Vitti’s sentimental struggle, by Totò’s gesturing, by Chaplin’s poetic sweetness. Then, when I was a teenager, I was struck by actresses such as Meryl Streep, Gena Rowlands, Frances

“Si prende qualcosa da ogni parte. I nostri modelli non sono tutti volontari, scelti, selezionati e seguiti, molto ci arriva senza che andiamo a cercarlo quando siamo piccoli e già ci forma. Your job also revolves around a world of appearance that has grown stronger with the use of social media. How do you deal with it?

Il tuo lavoro ruota intorno anche a un mondo dell’apparenza che si è fatto sempre più forte con i social. Come ti ci rapporti?

“At the beginning, I struggled to get into that. That world didn’t belong to me, but you can find a way to be comfortable into it without distorting yourself. Now I almost enjoy it. It depends on the moments.”

“Ho faticato a mettermi in mezzo all’inizio. Non mi apparteneva affatto quel mondo, però si può trovare un modo per starci comodi senza snaturarsi. Adesso quasi quasi mi ci diverto. Dipende dai momenti”.

C’è qualcosa di te stessa che nel passato subivi ma che hai iniziato a valorizzare crescendo?

“Certo, assolutamente! È quello il bello: trovare dove i tuoi difetti possono essere anche pepite. Gli antichi dicevano che la felicità è trovare la tua luce, che ti permette di brillare. Cioè essere capace di essere te stesso nella tua unicità. Nel mio caso Il bisogno di guardare le cose da tutti i punti di vista, di farmi domande esistenziali, sul reale e sull’invisibile, il bisogno di ricreare la realtà per sentirne il flusso, di toccare gli altri, di invadere gli spazi, di scambiarli, di sollevarsi un po’ da terra, a volte di volare”.

Reputi che ci sia ancora nella società una certa aspettativa su cosa o come dovrebbe essere una donna?

“Beh direi di sì. Dev’essere armoniosa, paziente, accogliente, di riferimento come nutrimento in generale. Deve attrarre, sedurre, essere amante, madre e moglie. Ruoli importanti nessuno lo nega, ma è ora di pensarci tutti capaci di attrazione e accudimento”.

Com’è la tua giornata tipo?

Is there something about yourself that you poorly endured in the past but that you started to appreciate growing up?

“Of course, absolutely! That’s the thing: discovering where your flaws can turn to be gold nuggets. The ancients said that happiness is finding your light, which allows you to shine. That is, being able to be yourself in your uniqueness. In my case, I need to look at things from all points of view, to ask myself existential questions about the reality and what is not visible, I need to recreate reality to feel its flow, to touch people, to invade spaces, to swap them, to rise people a little from the ground, sometimes to fly too.”

Do you think there is still a certain expectation in our society about what or how a woman should be?

“Well, I would say yes. A woman has to be harmonious, patient, welcoming, the generally reference point as nourishment. She has to be attractive, seduce, and be a lover, mother and wife. No one denies how important these roles are, but it is time to consider everybody capable of taking care of someone else and being attractive, not the women only.”

What is your typical day like?

“I never managed to have it either. I create shapes that lasts more or less for three months at a time. I usually arrange things in order to well distribute my work time between theater, television, cinema, audio books, project preparation, text composition, lessons to prepare and to leave me still a margin of freedom, because destructuring also requires time to “connect” with yourself. When I’m not busy, however, I resume my athletic group, I listen to my favorite vinyl records, which are my personal soundtrack, and I like to visit friends I have neglected for a while.”

What is your mantra?

“I am a bit labyrinthine, so my mantra is: simplicity.”

“Non sono mai riuscita neanche io ad averla. Io creo forme di circa tre mesi alla volta.

Organizzo le cose in modo da distribuire il lavoro tra teatro, televisione, cinema, audiolibri, preparazione di progetti, composizione di testi, lezioni da preparare e lasciare un margine di libertà, perché la destrutturazione richiede pure il tempo di “raccordarsi” con se stessi.

Quando sono completamente libera invece riprendo il mio gruppo d’atletica, ascolto i miei vinili preferiti che mi fanno da colonna sonora, e mi piace andare a trovare gli amici che ho trascurato da un po’”.

Qual è il tuo mantra?

“Siccome sono un po’ labirintica il mio mantra è: semplicità”.

n viaggio nel Northern Territory, l’outback australiano, alla scoperta dei luoghi sacri delle popolazioni aborigene. Da Darwin a Uluru, passando per le piscine sospese del parco Kakadu e Alice Springs.

One of the most remote and uncontaminated areas on the planet, with a harsh and primitive beauty, until a few years ago inhabited only by Aboriginal peoples, who for 60 thousand years have kept its secrets and respected its spaces and balances, in total harmony with nature, according to the animist religion principles. This is not like any other journey; in your backpack you have to put something more than a guide and a bottle of water: you’ll need both courage to face the remains of one of the largest and oldest civilizations of the world and respect to discover its cultural and naturalistic treasures, without violating its laws.

Uno dei territori più remoti e incontaminati del pianeta, dalla bellezza aspra e primitiva, fino a pochi anni fa abitato solo dalle popolazioni aborigene, che per 60mila anni ne hanno custodito i segreti e rispettato spazi ed equilibri, in totale armonia con la natura, secondo i principi delle religioni animiste. Quello verso il Northern Territory non è un viaggio qualsiasi; nello zaino dovrete mettere qualcosa in più di una guida e una borraccia: servono il coraggio di guardare in faccia quel che rimane di una delle più grandi e antiche civiltà del mondo e il rispetto di andare alla scoperta dei suoi tesori culturali e naturalistici, ma senza violarne le leggi.

Let us start from Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory.

After admiring the sunset at Mindil Beach Sunset Markets - the market set up on the sea where the city literally pours itself every Thursday and Sunday - we head towards Kakadu National Park, UNESCO heritage since 1981, the Top End’s beating heart and a sacred place for Australian Aborigines, who own it and manage it. Its 20 thousand square kilometres include one of the most varied and spectacular Australian ecosystems, with a landscape that changes radically according to the time of the year, flooding and drying up itself, dying and being reborn according to the dictates of a life cycle so powerful that the Aboriginal populations used to consider divine-like. Inside the park, the Wi-Fi is banned and there’s no signal at all. Here commands nature and you have to watch out for spiders, instead of for WhatsApp notifications. However, it will be a joy to be disconnected, thanks to breathtaking, almost surreal naturalistic landscapes, or rock art masterpieces date back to thousands of years ago, or river cruises liven up by crocodiles and sea eagles or swims in the amazing Gunlom Falls.

From here you can leave again to discover Alice Spings, a city born 140 years ago in the desert to serve as a telegraph station (the first one in Australia) and today a strategic starting point to visit the timeless beauties of the red desert, a place with such a force energy that recalls here people from all over the world, united in a cosmopolitan way by the same vocation for freedom. Surrounding the desert, there are the West Mac Donnel Rangers, a chain of rough mountains that runs for 644 km and hides gorges, natural pools, springs and Aboriginal sacred places, valleys full of palm trees and pools of fresh water where you can swim.

Before venturing to Uluru, among the thousand shades of red of its ancestral rocks, we make a stop at the Kangaroo Sanctuary, a recovery centre for wounded kangaroos run by the legendary Chris “Brolga” Barnes, former BBC star and better known as Kangaroo Dundee. It’s a very funny tour and it allows you to meet, even to touch, the animals which are the symbol of Australia.

Dopo aver ammirato il tramonto al Mindil Beach Sunset Markets - il mercato allestito sul mare dove la città letteralmente si riversa ogni giovedì e ogni domenica - ci dirigiamo verso il Kakadu National Park, patrimonio UNESCO dal 1981, cuore pulsante del Top End e luogo sacro agli aborigeni australiani, che ne sono proprietari e gestori. I suoi 20mila kmq racchiudono uno degli ecosistemi più vari e spettacolari d'Australia, mostrando un paesaggio che cambia radicalmente in base al periodo dell'anno, allagandosi e seccandosi, morendo e rinascendo secondo i dettami di un ciclo vitale talmente potente che le popolazioni aborigene consideravano divino.

All’interno del parco la wi-fi è bandita e non prende neanche il telefono. Qui comanda la natura e dovrete stare più attenti ai ragni che alle notifiche su Whatsapp. Ma stare sconnessi sarà una gioia, tra scenari naturalistici mozzafiato, quasi surreali, capolavori di arte rupestre antichi decine di migliaia di anni, crociere sul fiume circondati da coccodrilli e aquile di mare e nuotate nelle strepitose Gunlom Falls.

Da qui si può ripartire per conoscere Alice Spings, la città del deserto nata 140 anni fa come stazione del telegrafo (la prima in Australia) e oggi strategico punto di partenza per visitare le bellezze senza tempo del deserto rosso, luogo che regala una tale forza energetica da richiamare qui da ogni parte del mondo, un popolo cosmopolita unito dalla stessa vocazione per la libertà. Intorno al deserto c’è West Mac Donnel Rangers, la catena di monti rugosi che corre per 644 km e che nasconde gole, piscine naturali, fonti e luoghi sacri per gli aborigeni, valli piene di palme e pozze di acqua fresca dove fare il bagno.

Then we arrive in Uluru, known as Ayers Rock in English, the iridescent coloured sandstone monument that seems to be the fulcrum and heart of the power and beauty of this land. Even there, it’s still the Nature, beautiful and unspoiled, that dominate unchallenged. It is going to be wonderful to drink champagne watching the sunset colouring the rock, and then to have dinner in the middle of the red and arid desert. Uluru is still a sacred place for the Aboriginal culture, for the one of 40,000 years ago such as for the one which lives today in the park and it’s so kind to allow tourists to come in. Because this is their land. A powerful land, which is able to communicate to us dreams, emotions and greatness.

Prima di avventurarci a Uluru, tra le mille sfumature di rosso delle sue rocce ancestrali, facciamo una tappa al Kangaroo Sanctuary, un centro di recupero per canguri feriti gestito dal mitico Chris "Brolga" Barnes, già star della BBC e meglio conosciuto come Kangaroo Dundee. Il tour è esilarante e permette di conoscere da vicino, persino di toccare, gli animali-simbolo dell'Australia.

Those who love walking can cover the base of the monolith (9 km) with the help of the Anangu guides, in order to discover the Dreamtime stories, which are Aboriginal tales of the creation. One of this tales explains how the world was a flat and empty place before the Anangu ancestors began to travel and create elements, such as Uluru. The monolith is a clear proof of their presence on the Earth and it’s one of their most important and inspired creations.

Very suggestive too are the excursions organized by motorbike, helicopter and even by camel.

Chi ama camminare potrà percorrere la base del monolito (9 km) insieme alle guide Anangu per scoprire le storie del Dreamtime, ovvero i racconti della creazione del popolo aborigeno. Uno di questi spiega come il mondo fosse un luogo piatto e vuoto prima che gli antenati degli Anangu cominciassero a viaggiare e creare elementi come Uluru. Il monolito è la prova evidente della loro presenza sulla terra ed è una delle loro più importanti e ispirate creazioni. Suggestive sono anche le escursioni organizzate con la moto, con l’elicottero e addirittura sul dorso di un cammello.

On top of the world in the new Empire State Building observatory In cima al mondo nel nuovo osservatorio dell’Empire State Building Flavia Panfili From the Empire State Building, the Big Apple is ready to offer incredible new emotions. In the art deco skyscraper symbol of New York, the latest big news is the new observatory based in the 102nd floor. A large hall room in which even the floors are made of glass, surrounded by 24 windows, each high more than seven meters, guarantees a striking 360-degree view at 380 meters height.

Until a few months ago, the observatory floor was still in concrete and some structural elements, such as the ducts for the air filters, made the view less romantic. Now everything is different, and even the lift on which you reach the observatory has been completely renovated: even this made of glass, it starts from the 86th floor (where the outdoor observation deck often displayed on movies is) and it offers a climb through the lights of the iconic building. This is possible even at night, given that the last climb is scheduled at 01:15 AM. «The 102nd floor Observatory is the jewel of the Empire State Building,» said Anthony E. Malkin, President and CEO of the Empire State Realty Trust. «We removed every obstacle in order to offer to our guests an unrivalled views of New York City», Malkin went on to report on the Empire's latest and most anticipated progress, already costed four years of work and 165 million of dollars investment.

Dall’Empire State Building la Grande Mela è pronta a offrire nuove e incredibili emozioni. Nel grattacielo art déco simbolo di New York, l’ultima grande novità è il nuovo osservatorio al piano 102. Un grande salone in cui anche i pavimenti sono di vetro, circondato da 24 finestre alte più di sette metri per un panorama suggestivo a 360 gradi e 380 metri di altezza.

Fino a pochi mesi fa il pavimento dell’osservatorio era in cemento ed elementi strutturali come i condotti per i filtri dell’aria rendevano la vista meno romantica.

Ora è tutto diverso, e anche l’ascensore con cui si arriva all’osservatorio è stato completamente rinnovato: anche questo tutto in vetro, parte dall’86esimo piano (il ponte di osservazione all’aperto spesso mostrato nei film) e offre una salita attraverso le luci dell’edificio icona. he Toscana Life Sciences Foundation (TLS) was founded in Siena in 2005 as a non-profit institution operating in the life sciences sector to support scientific research activities and, in particular, the development of projects from basic research to industrial application. Born on impulse of the main institution of the university, clinical, industrial and financial world of Tuscany, the Foundation is based in Siena, in the historic area of​​ “Torre Fiorentina”, where the professor and scientist Achille Sclavo founded in 1904 the Tuscan Serotherapeutic and Vaccinogenic Institute.

Led by Andrea Paolini, General Manager since 2010, the Foundation created the bio-incubator, which today houses more than 42 business and research realities, focusing on facilitating the business start-up process in the man health biotechnology sector, on supporting scientific research and it focus also on managing activities of technology transfer, and enhancement of research, through national and international networking activities too.

A real innovation ecosystem, therefore, which revolves around TLS, made up of continuous commitment and devotion, researchers’ expertise and growth in terms of collaborators and partners, with solid resultsIn fact, 347 people work today at TLS, including the staff and researchers from external companies and and the direct employees of the Foundation. Over the years, the Foundation equipped itself with a scientific committee composed of top-level experts that, for over 3 years, have been directed by Professor Paola Ricciardi Castagnoli, one of the most important world scientists in the immunology field.

Many the international projects. TLS is partner of 3 ERC Research Projects in the field of vaccinology (vAMRes; OMVac and VACCIBiome). In particular, the vAMRes Project, led by the scientist Rino Rappuoli, a pioneer in the vaccine field, won the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant, financed with 2,5 million euros, and its aim is to produce vaccines able to contrast the antibiotic bacterial resistance. A five year long lasting project on one of the biggest scientific challenge of our time, to which the Toscana Life Sciences Foundation is going to cooperate as “host institution”, providing for laboratories, technology platforms and expertise inside an innovative and stimulating environment.

The Foundation’s commitment is also active in another important area of life sciences and future health activi-ties: the so-called personalized medicine.

Many are the scientific challenges of the future and theTLS Foundation commitment will focus with particular attention on the areas of vaccinology, precision medicine and immuno-oncology, with the aim of attracting more scientific talents and approaching the future with a innovative and forward-looking attitude, in a logic of sharing and aggregation, but, at the same time, keeping right in mind the great tradition that made the Foundation possible, in the favourable territory of Siena and Tuscany.

LUDMILLA RADCHENKO AUS SIBIRIEN MIT… POP! Людмила Радченко родилась в 1978 году в Сибири. Она приехала в Италию совсем юной на каникулы и сразу же попала на телевидение в передачи Paperissima, La sai l’ultima? Потом работала в передаче Passaparola, реалити-шоу La Talpa и On the Road. Сегодня она замужем за одним из ведущих программы Le Iene Маттео Вивиани и мать двоих детей. После телевизионной карьеры и модных показов она решила посвятить себя своей первой страсти: живописи. In der Kunst fand ich meine Entwicklung darin, meine Gedanken auszudrücken. Ich male seit meinem sechsten Lebensjahr, habe Kunst studiert und dann in Russland Modedesign studiert. Hier in Italien begann die eigentliche Tätigkeit vor 11 Jahren. Meine Vergangenheit im Fernsehen und als Model war eine wundervolle Erfahrung für das Mädchen, das ich war.

Aber Kunst ist mein Ziel und ich könnte jetzt nicht darauf verzichten. “ Deine Pop-Art, besser definiert als “Pop-Realismus”, lenkt ihre Aufmerksamkeit auf die westliche Konsumwelt. Woher kam diese Wahl? „Ich bin in Sibirien geboren, einem sowjetischen Land, das der Welt des Konsums so verschlossen ist.

Im Gegenteil, ich habe mich immer für kräftige Farben, große Städte und die Welt der Werbung interessiert. Also habe ich angefangen, meine ersten Werke zu komponieren, inspiriert von Fotos von Städten wie London, New York, Paris. Durch Objekte / Details erzähle ich eine Geschichte, drücke ironisch ein Problem oder einfach meine Vision der Welt aus. Viele internationale Projekte. TLS ist Partner von 3 ERCForschungsprojekten auf dem Gebiet der Vakzinologie (vAMRes; OMVac und VACCIBiome). Eines davon ist das vAMRes-Projekt, für das der Wissenschaftler Rino Rappuoli, ein Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Impfstoffe, mit einem mit 2,5 Millionen Euro dotierten ERC Advanced Grant ausgezeichnet wurde, mit einem Forschungsprojekt zur Entwicklung von Antikörpern und Impfstoffen, die dazu in der Lage sind auf bakterielle Resistenz gegen Antibiotika zu reagieren. Eine fünfjährige Arbeit an einer der größten wissenschaftlichen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit, an der die Toscana Life Sciences Foundation als “Gastinstitution” zusammenarbeitet, um Labors, technologische Plattformen und Kompetenzen in einem innovativen und anregenden Umfeld bereitzustellen.
