Myth #1: It’s okay if you run hot water. The Truth: Fats, cooking oils and grease will harden as they travel down pipes, which can lead to expensive repairs. Myth #2: Just add a little dish soap; that’ll take care of it. The Truth: Dish soap is only helpful when cleaning dishes that have been prepped for washing. To prevent grease from traveling down pipes, excess grease should first be removed from dishes and properly disposed. Myth #3: As long as it’s at room temperature, it won’t hurt a thing. The Truth: It is true that you should allow hot oil and grease to cool before cleaning — but this is only so that you can skim, scrape or wipe off the excess grease and properly dispose of it.

Make a Donation to help Spread Holiday Cheer The holiday season is about generosity, and nothing demonstrates that more than giving to those in need. In that spirit, Metrocrest Services, a nonproft that provides resources to families and seniors in Farmers Branch, is hosting multiple donation drives. The organization is currently collecting children’s toys, items for teenagers, food for families, and winter coats for all ages, as well as accepting financial donations. You can get involved by making an individual donation or by hosting your own donation drive.
