This year, the Hotel Splendide Royal of Lugano celebrates an important anniversary: 125 years.

ltre cent’anni di gloria che hanno visto l’hotel crescere dal punto di vista strutturale e di prestigio, in una perfetta fusione fra il fascino che una simile età dona e la modernità di cui si è dotato nel tempo. Fu la felice intuizione di Riccardo Fedele senior, discendente di una nobile famiglia di Bellinzona, a fargli acquistare la bellissima Villa Merlina, situata in un parco sulla riva del Ceresio, per trasformarla nell’Hotel Splendide, inaugurato nel 1887. L’aggettivo Royal, reale, fu aggiunto nel 1956 dal figlio Riccardo Fedele junior che ne assunse la direzione dopo la morte del padre e confermò lo Splendide quale hotel di lusso, luogo prediletto di famiglie reali ed esponenti di spicco del mondo politico e culturale.

ver one hundred years of glorious activity which have seen this hotel grow in dimensions and prestige, in a perfect fusion between the charm conferred by its venerable age and the modernity it has chosen to adopt in the course of time. It was the fortunate intuition of Riccardo Fedele senior, descendent of a noble family of Bellinzona, that made him buy the beautiful Villa Merlina, set in a park on the side of Lake Ceresio, and to transform it into the Hotel Splendide, which was then inaugurated in 1887. The adjective Royal was added in 1956 by Riccardo Fedele junior, who took over the management following his father’s death and confirmed the status of the Splendide as a luxury hotel patronized by royal families and prominent figures of the political and cultural milieus.
