Nature’s Prescription: Integrating Herbal Remedies Into Daily Life

In a world increasingly dominated by pharmaceuticals and fast-paced living, a growing number of individuals are rediscovering the wisdom of natural remedies—particularly the power of herbs. Herbal medicine, one of the oldest forms of health care, is once again gaining traction as part of a more holistic approach to wellness. From teas and tinctures to supplements and salves, herbal remedies are being thoughtfully integrated into daily life to support everything from immune function to mental clarity.

But what does it truly mean to embrace nature’s prescription? And how can individuals safely and effectively incorporate these age-old remedies into modern routines?

I am glad that you asked.

The Resurgence of Herbal Medicine

Herbal remedies have deep roots in global cultures. Ancient systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Ayurveda, and Indigenous healing traditions have long relied on the therapeutic properties of plants. Today, scientific research is validating many of these traditional uses, illuminating how compounds in herbs like turmeric, ashwagandha, echinacea, and chamomile can benefit human health. This resurgence is not just a trend; it reflects a shift in how people view their health. There is a growing desire for sustainable, preventative, and less invasive options that align with the body’s natural rhythms. Holistic health practitioners are responding to this call by educating clients on integrating herbs into daily life as both preventative care and complementary therapy.

Everyday Integration: Where Nature Meets Routine

Incorporating herbal remedies doesn’t have to be complex or time-consuming. Here are several practical ways individuals can bring the benefits of herbs into their everyday wellness routines:

Start with Herbal Teas

Simple yet powerful, herbal teas are a gentle way to introduce plant medicine. Chamomile can aid in relaxation and sleep, peppermint can support digestion, and ginger is renowned for its anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties. Daily Practice Tip: Begin or end your day with a cup of herbal tea tailored to your needs. Consider rotating herbs seasonally to match your body’s shifting requirements.

Cook with Medicinal Herbs and Spices

Herbs like garlic, oregano, rosemary, and turmeric don’t just enhance flavor; they provide potent health benefits. Cooking with these herbs infuses meals with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents, and antimicrobial compounds. Daily Practice Tip: Create a “healing spice rack” and mindfully add herbs to soups, stews, teas, and broths. Golden milk (a turmeric-based drink) is a delicious, anti-inflammatory evening beverage.

Use Tinctures and Supplements Mindfully

For targeted support, herbal tinctures and standardized supplements can deliver concentrated benefits. However, it is important to consult with a qualified herbalist or healthcare provider to ensure proper dosing and safety, especially if you are taking other medications. Daily Practice Tip: Keep a small herbal apothecary of trusted tinctures like echinacea (immune support), ashwagandha (adaptogenic stress relief), and milk thistle (liver health). Use as needed, especially during periods of stress or seasonal changes.

Create a Ritual Around Herbal Self-Care

Holistic health is about harmony. Integrating herbs into self-care rituals can be profoundly therapeutic. Bathing with lavender or eucalyptus, diffusing essential oils, or applying herbal salves can soothe both the body and mind. Daily Practice Tip: Build a weekly “herbal hour” into your schedule—a time to steep a tea, journal, take an herbal bath, or simply connect with nature’s healing gifts.

Safety, Sourcing, and Sustainability

While herbs are natural, they are not without potential risks. Quality and sourcing matter greatly. Choose organic, non-GMO herbs from reputable suppliers. If foraging, ensure correct plant identification and harvest responsibly to preserve biodiversity. Additionally, be aware that herbs can interact with prescription medications or exacerbate certain health conditions. Consulting a trained herbalist or integrative healthcare professional is essential, especially when using herbs for chronic health issues. While the appeal of herbal medicine lies in its natural origins, it’s important to remember that “natural” does not always mean “safe” or “risk-free.” Herbal remedies, like pharmaceutical drugs, contain active chemical compounds that can affect the body—positively or negatively—depending on how they are used. For this reason, safety, sourcing, and sustainability should be central considerations when incorporating herbs into daily life.

Safety First: Understanding Herbal Interactions and Individual Differences

Not all herbs are appropriate for everyone. Age, underlying health conditions, medications, and even genetic predispositions can affect how the body responds to certain plants. For example:

● St. John’s Wort, often used for mild depression, can interfere with a wide range of medications, including birth control pills, antidepressants, and blood thinners.

● Licorice root, beneficial for digestive issues, can raise blood pressure if consumed in large amounts or over extended periods.

● Comfrey, traditionally used for wound healing, contains compounds that may be harmful to the liver if ingested.

It is critical to approach herbal use with informed caution. Consulting with a trained herbalist, integrative physician, or licensed naturopath can help identify which herbs are suitable based on your unique health profile. In addition, keeping a personal health journal to monitor the effects of herbs—especially when beginning a new regimen, can be a valuable tool for self-awareness and communication with your healthcare provider.

Sourcing with Integrity: Quality, Purity, and Transparency

The rise in popularity of herbal products has also led to a crowded and unregulated marketplace. Unfortunately, not all herbal supplements are created equal. Contamination with heavy metals, pesticides, fillers, or synthetic additives can compromise both the safety and effectiveness of a product.

Here’s what to look for when sourcing herbal remedies:

● Certified Organic Labels: These ensure the herbs are grown without harmful chemicals and in accordance with ecological standards.

● Third-Party Testing: Reputable brands often submit their products for third-party testing to verify purity and potency.

● Transparent Labeling: Look for clear ingredient lists, the botanical name of the herb, plant part used (e.g., root, leaf, flower), and extraction method.

● Sustainable Packaging: Choose companies that use recyclable or compostable packaging materials and prioritize environmental responsibility.

Whenever possible, buy from small-batch producers, herbal apothecaries, or cooperatives that emphasize ethical sourcing and community-based trade. By supporting

businesses that value quality and transparency, you contribute to a more trustworthy herbal economy.

Sustainability: Honoring the Earth While Healing the Self

The resurgence of interest in herbal remedies must be balanced with a deep respect for the ecosystems that produce them. Overharvesting of popular medicinal plants—such as goldenseal, wild ginseng, and slippery elm—has led to environmental strain and, in some cases, endangered status.

Sustainable herbalism means:

● Choosing cultivated over wildcrafted herbs when possible, especially for at-risk species.

● Practicing mindful foraging: If you gather herbs yourself, learn proper identification, harvest methods, and local regulations. Never take more than needed.

● Supporting regenerative farming: Seek out herbalists and suppliers who invest in soil health, biodiversity, and climate-friendly agricultural practices.

● Advocating for conservation: Get involved with organizations that protect native medicinal plant habitats and educate others about ethical herbal use.

Remember, every herbal purchase is a vote—either for sustainability and integrity or for exploitation and depletion. As stewards of our health and the planet, we must choose wisely. By placing safety, sourcing, and sustainability at the heart of your herbal journey, you not only protect your health but also honor the complex web of life that makes healing possible. When we treat plants with reverence—not just as products but as living allies—we align with a deeper form of wellness that nurtures both body and biosphere.

The Future of Herbal Wellness

The integration of herbal remedies into daily life is more than a return to the past; it’s a powerful step forward. It invites individuals to take greater ownership of their health, to trust their intuition, and to build a deeper relationship with the natural world. In a time when healthcare can often feel impersonal, herbal medicine reconnects us to the earth, to tradition, and to ourselves.

Men’s Mental Awareness : Honoring My Father and Encouraging a Healthier Future for Men

Real Tiffany Talks

linktr.ee/TiffanySCarter

As we take a moment to reflect on the importance of men's mental health, I am reminded of my father, Andre Maurice Carter, who passed away on April 29, 2009, at the age of 54 due to a stroke. His struggles were emblematic of a broader societal issue; many men, particularly those in the entrepreneurial world, face immense pressures that can impact their mental health. The scars of generational loss have shaped my family’s narrative, and it is this story that fuels my commitment to this cause.

Tragically, my father lost two brothers before him, and his father also died at the young age of 55. Additionally, one of his baby twin brothers passed away, leaving a profound impact on our family. Out of my grandmother's nine children—five boys and four girls—four sons have succumbed to early deaths. These losses serve as a gut-wrenching reminder of the urgency surrounding mental health awareness, particularly for men.

Like many entrepreneurs, my father believed that showing emotion or asking for help would be perceived as a sign of weakness. He was not alone; countless men share this experience, and sadly, many succumb to stress-related illnesses because of it.

Research shows that men are significantly less likely than women to seek help for mental health issues. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness, yet men often delay seeking treatment. The stigma surrounding mental health perpetuates silence and can lead to tragic outcomes—not only for individuals but for their families and communities as well.

This awareness month provides us a platform to break these barriers. As the Bible reminds us in Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” This scripture

In loving memory of Tiffany S. Carter’s father, Andre M. Carter.

highlights the importance of support systems in our lives. Men—reach out to one another, engage in conversations about mental health, and be there for each other.

To truly prioritize mental health, here are several actionable steps men can take:

1. **Recognize Feelings:** It is crucial to acknowledge that experiencing sadness, anxiety, or stress does not make you weak. Recognizing these feelings is the first step toward healing. James 5:16 advises us, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.” Bringing your struggles into the light is how healing begins.

2. **Talk About It:** Breaking the silence surrounding mental health is vital. Talk openly with friends, family members, or mental health professionals about your feelings. Whether it's over coffee or in a therapy session, these conversations can create pathways toward healing. Remember, "A kind word is like a spring day" (Proverbs 15:23).

3. **Seek Help:** Professional assistance is paramount. Don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist who specializes in men's issues. Actor and mental health advocate Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson once said, “In order to be a champion, I have to see myself

championing.” Seeking help is not only a courageous act but a necessary one.

4. **Stay Active:** Physical activity is a powerful tool for improving mental health. Regular exercise can release endorphins, enhancing your mood and reducing stress. Engage in group sports, as community and fellowship are cherished in Hebrews 10:24-25, where it says, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

5. **Practice Self-Care:** Make it a priority to take time for yourself. Engage in activities that recharge you and bring you joy—whether it’s working on a hobby, spending time in nature, or simply reading a good book. As we read in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, our bodies are temples that should be treated with care.

Honoring my father’s memory and the legacy of the men who came before him, I hope to emphasize the importance of seeking support and breaking down the stigma associated with mental health. It’s essential to understand that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness. As mental health advocate and author Matt Haig eloquently stated, “It’s okay to not be okay.”

Acknowledging one’s struggles is a vital step toward healing and connection.

The tragic losses in my family lead me to stress the importance of mental health.

It's heartbreaking to think of the friends my father lost—men who shared their entrepreneurial spirit and dreams but grappled with stress and untreated mental health issues. Their stories serve as a powerful reminder that your health, both mental and physical, matters.

As we reflect on this critical conversation and honor those who have lost their battles with stress-related illnesses, let us commit ourselves to living healthier, more balanced lives. Encourage one another to check in on their health, seek help when needed, and foster relationships that promote emotional well-being.

In closing, prioritize your mental health and embrace the community around you. Together, we can create a culture that values mental well-being and supports one another on our journeys. Thank you for joining me in this important conversation. Until next time, take care of yourselves and each other. It’s okay to reach out; you are not alone. Let us break the cycle of silence and commit to living healthier lives for ourselves and those we love. Remember, as Psalm 34:18 reminds us, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Overcoming Impostor Syndrome as a Woman Entrepreneur PART 2

In Case You Missed It: Part 1 Summary

Last issue, we began exploring impostor syndrome, a common psychological pattern where accomplished individuals, particularly high-achieving women, doubt their abilities and fear being exposed as frauds, despite their proven success. We learned that this pervasive feeling, first identified by psychologists Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes, causes individuals to attribute achievements to luck rather than skill. If you've ever questioned your competence or felt like you're not as intelligent as others perceive, you're not alone; studies show a significant percentage of entrepreneurs experience this, with women often facing unique societal pressures that amplify these feelings. In this issue's Part 2, Dr. Clark delves deeper into how impostor syndrome impacts women in business and discusses strategies to overcome it.

How Impostor Syndrome Affects Women Entrepreneurs

As a business owner, impostor syndrome can have a real impact on our success. It’s not just about self-doubt—it influences decision-making, visibility, and even business growth. Here are just a few of the ways I’ve been stifled in the past as a result of impostor thinking.

1. Fear of Taking Risks

Until Fall 2024, I (like many others) hesitated to take big leaps in my business—whether it’s launching a new product, applying to become a certified woman-owned business, or even

believing that people would pay me, I felt like I was always working to get “ready” or that I wasn’t “qualified enough.”

A study conducted by Hewlett-Packard found that men apply for jobs when they meet about 60% of the qualifications, while women tend to wait until they meet 100%. This was me! This same mindset can hold women back from seizing business opportunities, leading to slower business growth compared to male entrepreneurs.

2. Underpricing and Undervaluing Services

Women who experience impostor syndrome often struggle with charging what they’re worth. They may feel guilty about setting high prices or fear that clients will think they’re overcharging. One mentor once told me that “the price is the price!” Do not get on the struggle bus of decision-making because someone questioned your price or did not respond to you after you shared your prices. Maybe they weren’t meant for you in this season. Maybe they need more information or time. Whatever THEIR issue is, is NOT yours.

Business coach and entrepreneur Jamie Wolfer recalls feeling uncomfortable pricing her services in the early days of her wedding planning business:

“Who am I to be running a business and asking people for money? There are people who have been doing this for years!”

This mindset leads many women to charge too little for their expertise, ultimately undervaluing their own work and limiting their revenue potential.

3. Overworking and Burnout

If you secretly believe you’re not qualified, you may overcompensate by working longer hours and over preparing to prove yourself. Women who experience this manifestation of impostor syndrome often feel the need to be “perfect” in everything they do, leading to chronic stress and burnout.

Psychologists have found that individuals who experience impostor syndrome often struggle with:

● Perfectionism, where nothing ever feels “good enough”

● Overworking, in an attempt to prove their competence

● Burnout, due to constant stress and anxiety

Over time, this can take a toll on mental health, making it even harder to operate a successful business. According to one of the foremost thought-leaders on impostor syndrome, Dr. Valerie Young, impostor syndrome is more about the “distorted views of skills and competencies” that force us into unrealistic standards of success and goal achievement.

4. Avoiding Self-Promotion

Marketing yourself is essential for business success, but impostor syndrome makes this difficult. Many women entrepreneurs avoid promoting their work, speaking on podcasts, or applying for media opportunities because they “feel” unqualified. This had been my struggle for a countless number of years before I, as my grandmother would say, “put my foot down” on . While I have managed to “put myself out there” over the course of time, my efforts had been few and far between, disjointed, and lackluster to say the least but yet, I persisted. Even accomplished women experience impostor feelings. I can remember when Michelle Obama admitted to

feeling like an impostor, despite her global influence. She said:

“I still have a little impostor syndrome… It doesn’t go away, that feeling that you shouldn’t take me that seriously.”

If one of the most powerful women in the world can feel this way, it’s clear that impostor syndrome is not about actual ability—it’s about perception…. What Dr. Valerie Young acknowledges as distortion. Kind of like wearing your glasses upside down. You’re wearing them but what you see if warped, angled, and maybe even acutely slanted.

Let’s Talk About How to Overcome Impostor Syndrome

But have you heard the good news? You don’t have to let impostor syndrome hold you back. Here are five powerful strategies to help you overcome this dreadful feeling and step into your full potential.

1. Recognize and Name It

The first step is acknowledging that impostor syndrome is an experience that you’re having, NOT a personal failing. Even the most successful women entrepreneurs feel this way at times. When you recognize it for what it is—just a pattern of thought, NOT the truth—you take away its power. That is how I’ve been able to move forward and enter into this entrepreneurial space full-time as of November 2024. Yes, it’s taken time to get my footing but that’s with any major transition.

2. Track Your Wins

Start keeping an “Evidence Journal” where you document your successes—big or small.

● Secured a new client? Write it down.

● Received positive feedback? Save it.

● Hit a revenue milestone? Celebrate it. By regularly reviewing this list, you’ll train your brain to focus on evidence of your competence rather than your doubts. These actions aren’t the only actions you can focus on but they are

certainly at the top of my list along with a few others.

3. Shift Your Mindset

Reframe negative thoughts by replacing them with factual, empowering statements.

Trash this. “I just got lucky.”

Celebrate this. “I worked hard for this opportunity, and I deserve it.”

Trash this. “I’m not an expert yet.”

Celebrate this. “I know enough to help others, and I’m always learning.”

When you actively shift your thoughts, you begin to believe in yourself even more.

4. Surround Yourself with Support

You’re not meant to do this alone, Sis. I learned this more than a decade after starting my business and burning myself out, up, down, and to the side. Surround yourself with mentors, coaches, and like-minded businesswomen who can uplift and encourage you will remain critical to your success.

Research shows that women entrepreneurs who have strong support networks experience less self-doubt and greater business growth. Consider joining affinity groups for women entrepreneurs as being part of a supportive community helps you see that you’re not alone—and that you truly belong in the entrepreneurial space can help you fill some inexplicable voids and challenges.

5. Take Action Before You Feel Ready

The best way to silence impostor syndrome? Do the thing anyway. Even if you “feel” unqualified, take the leap:

✔ Raise your prices

✔ Apply for the opportunity

✔ Speak on the panel

The late Dr. Susan Jeffers emphasized the importance of “feeling the fear and doing in anyway” in her highly acclaimed best seller of the same name. More than twenty-five years later, she reminds us that confidence comes from action, not from waiting to feel ready.

You Are More Than Enough

If impostor syndrome is holding you back, remind yourself of this: Real impostors don’t feel impostor syndrome. The very fact that you worry about being “good enough” is proof that you care—and that you belong.

The next time that self-doubt whispers, “You’re not qualified,” push forward anyway. You’ve put in the work. You are capable. You are worthy. You deserve every bit of success and achievement coming your way.

Now go claim it, Sis. In this moment, let go of the doubts—whether loud or lingering—that impostor syndrome tries to plant within you. Instead, embrace the wisdom of Oprah Winfrey, who reminds us: “It’s your job to create the highest, grandest vision for your life, because you become what you believe.” So believe in your brilliance, lead with boldness, and step fully into the successes and impact that you envision for yourself, your family, and your community.

Prostate Cancer

Host of Karla’s Korner Radio Show www.envision-radio.com

Prostate cancer is a growth of cells that starts in the prostate. The prostate is a small gland that helps make semen. It's found just below the bladder. The prostate is part of the male reproductive system.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. Prostate cancer is usually found early, and it often grows slowly. Most people with prostate cancer are cured.

Prostate cancer may not cause symptoms at first. Most prostate cancers are found at an early stage. This means that the cancer is only in the prostate. An early-stage prostate cancer often doesn't cause symptoms.

When they happen, early-stage prostate cancer signs and symptoms can include:

● Blood in the urine, which might make the urine look pink, red or cola-colored.

● Blood in the semen.

● Needing to urinate more often.

● Trouble getting started when trying to urinate.

Grace for Your Race

Host of Live Your Best LIfe & The Book Business Boss Show

Author, Publisher, Life Coach, Singer & Motivational Speaker www.juliaroyston.net | www.envision-radio.com

Congratulations Envision Multimedia Services, LLC on being in business for five years!

Five is the number of Grace. It has been through hard work and God’s Grace or His unmerited favor that you are still here, growing and look forward to the next opportunity for ministry. A great part of living your best life is knowing that at birth, you were gifted with the grace for the life that you are living. The bible tells us to not compare ourselves to others because it is not wise. Why? Because someone else has the grace for the life that they are living and you were not given that same measure of grace, patience, gifting, purpose or destiny to handle their life’s circumstances or success. People have often asked me, “how do you do all that you do every day,

month or year?” I answer them by saying, “I have the Grace for it. I was built for this life. Certain parts of my journey, I prayed, dreamed and worked for it.” I call it the “Grace for Your Race.” Other people would have given up already with the same set of circumstances, obligations and demands that are required for your life but you haven’t and won’t. You will keep going, growing and adjust because you have the “Grace for Your Race.” Live your best life knowing that you have God’s Help, Grace, Favor and Power. You’ve been given the Grace for it. Live Your Best Life.

About the Dish

I'm in the process of creating a cookbook with my mom's handwritten recipes that I've learned how to make over the years. I literally have 2 shoeboxes full of her handwritten recipes. Stay tuned for the cookbook that will be coming out in the fall of 2025.

The following is one of my favorites, her pepper jelly. It can be created in a variety of ways. But here's one of the best ways in my opinion.

Pepper Jelly is very versatile, it can accompany a host of many types of dishes. As a topping for vegetables, to make dips(mixed with cream cheese, pimento cheese)and also mixed in souffles and casseroles etc. Pepper Jelly does not have to be spicy,it can also be sweet and savory using sweet peppers. The combinations of peppers are endless. With this same recipe you can also make fruit jams and jellies. A combination of preparation methods such as a freezing or cooking method produces similar results when making the jellies and jams.

Willie Lois "Doll" Brumby passed in 2004, but she definitely left the cooking legacy to me.Now my kids and grandkids also love to cook. Generational Blessings Being Passed Along.

Momma Dolls Pepper Jelly

INGREDIENTS

Mason jars

Bell pepper

Sugar

Butter

1 pouch of CERTO fruit Pectin

A few drops of green or red food coloring can be added if you want more color

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Boil mason jars in a large pot of water for 10 minutes. Place flat lids in the pot as well. Bring to a boil, remove from heat let' stand in hot water until ready. Drain well.

2. Measure the amount of peppers into a 6 or 8 quart pot.

3. Measure sugar into a separate bowl. scrape extra sugar from cup with spatula to make level for exact measure.

4. Add sugar into the peppers, mix well

5. Add a half teaspoon of butter or margarine, bring mixture to full rolling boil over high heat stirring constantly.

6. Open Certo fruit pectin pouches and quickly start contents into fruit mixture. Bring to a rolling boil for 1 minute stirring constantly. Remove heat. skim off foam.

7. Fill all jars to within a half inch of the top. Wipe jar rims and threads. Cover quickly with flat lids. Screw threaded lids on tightly. Invert jars for 5 minutes, then turn upright. After 1 hour check seals. You should hear that famous POP sound when they're tightly sealed!

Remember... the same recipe method can be used to make fruit jellies and jams!

Seeing with Spiritual Eyes

God’s mercy is not always wrapped in comfort or ease. Sometimes, it comes cloaked in correction, delay, or even pain. To truly understand and respond to God’s mercy, we need more than emotion—we need divine discernment.

When Solomon prayed in 1 Kings 3:9, he didn’t ask for wealth or success. He asked for “an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil.” Discernment is a spiritual lens that helps us perceive God’s deeper work. As Romans 12:2 reminds us, only a renewed mind can discern the will of God.

God’s mercy is more than a moment—it is daily, faithful, and transformative. Titus 3:5 says we are saved “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy.” That mercy renews us each morning (Lamentations 3:23) and allows us to approach God boldly (Hebrews 4:16).

Yet mercy often appears in places we don’t expect. David discerned God’s mercy even as he fled from Absalom (2 Samuel 15:19-20). He trusted in God’s steadfast love—chesed (Hebrew)—His covenant commitment to be kind even when life hurts.

Micah 6:8 calls us not only to love mercy but to walk humbly with it. When we discern mercy rightly, we extend it freely.

In every trial, ask for spiritual sight. Mercy may not always feel good, but with divine discernment, we’ll see it for what it is: God’s loving hand, shaping us through grace.

Brunch Made Easy

Gathering friends and family doesn’t need to be fancy. With its prime positioning between breakfast and lunch, brunch is a more casual and lighter alternative to the typical dinner party.

When charged with hosting a mid-day gathering, a little pre-planning can go a long way toward ensuring your brunch get-together is as simple as it is scrumptious.

Get creative with decor. When prepping your tablescape, think outside the box. Opt for unexpected serving dishes such as tartlet tins and vases, and transfer syrups and jams from their everyday containers to glass bowls or creamers. Fresh flowers and produce can add natural pops of color to the table and a bowl of fruit can make for an eye-catching centerpiece.

Plan a variety of dishes. Make sure you have a mix of both sweet and savory dishes on the menu that can please a wide variety of palates. Earmarking some recipes that can be made ahead, like pastries and casseroles, can be a simple way to avoid waking up extra early to prepare. Save the morning of your event for

dishes that are best served fresh, like this Herbed Spanish Omelet, which features potatoes; fresh, spring herbs; and red onions, and packs protein, B-vitamins and cancer-protective phytochemicals.

Serve it buffet-style. Setting your spread out on the counter and allowing guests to help themselves not only makes it easier for the host to mingle, but it allows guests to customize their meals as they wish and gives the gathering a more casual vibe. Try themed stations, such as a coffee or mimosa bar, parfait bar or bread bar, in addition to more traditional dishes to let guests take the customization to the next level.

5 Things Funeral Directors Wish Everyone Knew

Most people don’t want to think about death – let alone talk about it. When the time comes, families often find themselves overwhelmed, not only by grief but by the many decisions that need to be made quickly.

Funeral directors witness this every day. They see the stress and confusion that can come when there is no plan in place and the peace of mind that comes with thoughtful preparation.

After consulting funeral directors nationwide, the National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) uncovered five things they wish families knew before a death occurs.

It’s Never Too Early to Start Planning

While everyone knows death and taxes are inevitable, conversations about death are often avoided.

Simply documenting your wishes and discussing your preferences with your family can alleviate the difficult decisions your loved ones will have to make in the future. Speak with a funeral director to explore the many options for planning a meaningful funeral.

Legal and Financial Details Can Cause

Unexpected Issues

Families often don’t realize power of attorney ends at death, meaning a designated person can no longer make decisions or access bank accounts once an individual dies.

To avoid complications, consider adding a trusted loved one to your bank account and ensure life insurance beneficiaries are up to date. Too often, deceased individuals leave minor children, deceased spouses or former partners as beneficiaries, leading to legal and financial challenges.

Final Wishes Shouldn’t Be In Your Will

Many people believe the best place to document their final wishes is in their will. However, wills are often not read until after funeral services take place, making them an unreliable way to communicate last requests. Instead, discuss and document your wishes with family members or a trusted funeral professional who can keep your wishes on file until there is a need.

There Are a Variety of Memorialization Options

End-of-life planning offers more choices than many realize. While burial remains a

common preference, cremation is an increasingly popular choice and can even include a viewing and funeral service. Additionally, eco-friendly options, such as alkaline hydrolysis, natural burial and natural organic reduction are becoming more widely available for those seeking green memorialization. In fact, according to NFDA’s 2024 Consumer Awareness and Preferences Study, 68% of respondents expressed interest in green funeral options.

Exploring these possibilities with a funeral professional can help ensure your final arrangements reflect your values, traditions and personal wishes.

Funeral Directors Don’t Just Manage Funerals – They’re Trusted Guides In Honoring Life

Funeral directors play a vital role in helping families create meaningful services that reflect their loved one’s life, values and traditions. Whether planning ahead or facing a recent loss, funeral professionals

personalized guidance during one of life’s most difficult moments.

Choosing the right funeral director is an important decision and finding someone who understands your needs can make all the difference in honoring your loved one in a personal and meaningful way.

Start the conversation today by talking about end-of-life planning. It isn’t easy, but it’s one of the most important conversations you can have with your loved ones. A little planning today can make a world of difference tomorrow.

Use comprehensive resources like RememberingALife.com, which is designed to guide families through every stage of the journey, including planning, funeral options and grief resources. The site offers valuable tools and support, such as the “Find a Funeral Home” tool to connect families with compassionate, local funeral directors and much more.
