As the curtains open to the panorama of a new year, let us collectively make a vow to shift our focus to the horizon ahead rather than dwelling on the echoes of the past. The young man, King, serves as an inspiring example, capturing the essence of the transformative power that lies within each of us.

In the hallowed space of a Houston Texas church, King diligently penned down his grandfather's ( Host Pastor David Smith) wisdom, channeling the scriptural message of "write the vision, make it plain." This poignant moment reminds us of our obligation to envision a brighter future and chase after it with unwavering determination.

As we enter 2024 let the mistakes and heartaches of the past serve as stepping stones and lessons, propelling us forward instead of holding us back. It is time to break free from the binds of regret, rekindle our optimism, and chart a course towards a

brighter tomorrow.

In this new year, let us write down our own visions, paint them with vivid strokes of determination, and manifest them with ceaseless dedication. For if King, a young man armed with mere notes, can ignite change, then surely, so can we.

This issue has a lot of new faces and national well known faces ! We are growing and Praise God it is with incredible writers and advertisers who believe in Envision Magazine! Last year we sponsored two events this year we hope to do more and become more involved with events across the country.

At this time, I'd have to say that hip-hop artist Dee-1 would be my favorite independent. He not only is a prolific lyricist and emcee but he has through faith, example, desire to continue to grow and learn have matriculated and continued to keep it real and achieve educationally..

5. Favorite Scripture?

My favorite scripture is 1 Corinthians 10:13 which reads,

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

6. How has your faith sustained you?

Excellent question and thanks for asking.

For me coming to understand what faith is and its relationship to me has been the most amazing part of my life and existence. Let me answer it this way.

For me I have come to know faith as my "DNA". Though a spiritual principle, for me it's literally and equivalent to "Christ in Me '' like blood flowing through my veins. I seek God, His Spirit on everything first, then move forward!

My faith isn't a church or denomination, my faith is centered and grounded in God's, His love for me and you, His

movement and His moving in and through me and I don't play with it or take it for granted.

So, I'm Stric'ly Jesus (Yeshua The Christ) and I love how Paul states it in Acts 17:28 MSG 7. We know that you had a great loss this year . Your beautiful Mother passed away. How are you coping and what are you doing to keep her light and her life's journey alive?

Deep question. Since my Mom's passing, I have been learning daily.Initially, I tried to fill it with "good things" to do to fill the void. Didn't work. Next, I tried to 11

mask my loss and void in "spiritual or church things". Short lived. However, what has been very helpful in this new season without my Mom (and Dad's) physical presence has been this...

What I now do to keep my Mom's light and her life's journey alive is that I have created a special area in my home office that I can have as a reminder to continue this NMD Inc legacy, that my late mother supported. Not only did she pray, but she was involved in every program and fiber of what everyone loves and admires. I will forever be grateful to God and her for always believing in me period, especially when no one believed.

8. Any words of wisdom for folks starting a business? a. Take at least 6-9 months to research every aspect of the business you desire to establish. b. Do a name search for the business name. Be sure it's available. c. Develop a business plan/proposal and marketing strategy with a budget for the first 2 years prior to official opening.

9. What does 2024 look like for you and NMD? 2024 is here and we look forward with great anticipation. We expect this year will be even greater and a more a phenomenal year for NMD inc and I. For me, 2024 is the year for increase in knowledge and entrepreneurship. So, I realize that as long as I am learning, I am So, as founder and 2021 executive 12 growing. | Envision Magazine January - March

administrator of NMD Inc, I choose to grow. I am currently in graduate school for two Masters, the first being Master of Business Administration and the second, Master of Business & Corporate Communications.

For NMD Inc, we are excited to announce that we will expand our reach and provide our Greatness Project to empower youth and teens beyond detention and juvenile incarceration. In addition, we've expanded our staff, urban youth mentorship and leadership initiative, evidence based and mental health curriculums and formed collaborations and partnership to include the school systems, juvenile justice system and other agencies whose primary focus is to move adolescents and their families from neglect, brokenness and poverty to financial sustainability, home equity, homeownership, and a productive, quality of life. My First Year Overseas

Welcome back to part four of my first year overseas, where I continue to share my journey in the world of Pro Basketball Overseas. Previously, I left off my experience in France, where I was searching for my next job. My agent arrived in France to accompany me, provide me with clothes, and drive me to my next destination - Belgium. The car ride took approximately four hours. As I approached Belgium, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of nerves and determination. At that point, I firmly began to believe that the only way to overcome failure was to keep trying.

Upon reaching Belgium, I was assigned a delightful apartment and a car. Although the car had a manual transmission, a skill I had yet to acquire, I was fortunate to have a teammate who graciously taught me how to drive it. It was in Europe that I mastered the art of driving a stick shift.

Regarding basketball, I dedicated myself to intense practice sessions with the team. I believed I could contribute positively and enhance the team's performance. However, during a meeting with the coach, I was informed that I was indeed a skilled player, but not quite the right fit for the team. It was

It was devastating news, and I found myself contemplating a future outside of basketball. Perhaps becoming a teacher or a PE coach could be my path forward, as I yearned to escape this seemingly never-ending nightmare. The image of that coach's face stayed with me, and whenever I encountered him in the future professionally , I made it my mission to outperform his teams.

Following my release from this team, I felt a surge of anger. I made the decision to terminate my agent's services. It was during that moment of frustration that another agent reached out to me in Belgium. This new agent informed me of a potential tryout opportunity in a small country neighbouring Belgium - Holland.

My thoughts raced, contemplating the risks involved. If I failed to secure a spot on this team in Holland, I resolved to quit professional basketball indefinitely.

Little did I know that decision would shape my life in ways I could never have anticipated. Stay tuned for the next chapter to find out what happens to me next on my journey as a Professional Basketball Player Overseas.

What It Takes To Make Vision Happen

Habakkuk 2:2-3 Happy New Year! So how is your year starting out? Did you come into the New Year ready to elevate. Did you come with a plan? What was your score in the last quarter of last year? Answers to all of these questions will determine your start.

Goals are not won just by wishing. Nor are they won just by talking about them.

You must have vision.

1. Waiting is part of the vision: I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

Be patient and know that God will answer. Being patient is not always easy.

Just know it is a must.

2. Listening is part of the vision:

And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Follow the instructions that are given to you. Don't try to be like anyone else. Be your authentic self. Those that understand your vision will understand you.

3. When It's Your Time. It's Your Time.

For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

If God said it. That settles it. Don't get discouraged in the wait. Don't second guess yourself. What you have is for an appointed time. Move in silence. Praise out loud. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Your vision is going to speak for you. Your assignment is to be ready with the plan. So can you answer the above questions? If not take some time in the coming week to get ready. You are your own competition.

Your visions completion is your responsibility. Focus and keep believing.

Be your loudest cheerleader.

People today are much wealthier than in Biblical times. We have a lot more possessions; the psalmist‘s warning is therefore meant for our ears today. They were wealthier than we are today, because of the power and blessings from God that were exhibited through their faith!

(HELLO SOMEBODY!)!

Money is important – we can’t get away from that. You need money to survive; to put food on the table for your family and

clothes on their backs. Still, money mustn’t become an idol in your life. It shouldn’t become such a dominant force in your life that you’re willing to do anything to get more of it.

We need to seek the Kingdom of God first and all these things will be added to us. We need the fruit of the Spirit and character of Jesus along with His attributes; then we are rich beyond generations! (TALK TO ME PREACHER!)!

Sometimes the work and stress you have to do to get wealthy is a far greater price than being sustained and living our life to glorify God! The most-wealthiest asset I need is love, peace, and kindness. You can add a little respect and forgiveness in there and I’m the richest man in the world. (HELLO SOMEBODY!)!

Don’t ever forget that money can’t save you, only God can.

Work hard at your relationship with Him, because without God in your life you can have all the riches in the world, but you’ll still have nothing. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? (PREACH PREACHER!)!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please do not allow money and possessions to skew my outlook on life and success.

My life is in You and my success is in You; do not ever let me forget it. Always keep these two commandments near and dear to my heart: Love God with all my heart, mind soul, and strength, and love my neighbor as I love myself. Lord, this will help me navigate my journey in this foreign land until I 51 can come home and be with You in eternity! I ask all these blessings in Jesus' name, Amen!

Pen to paper has become therapeutic in my daily life. Writing in my journal is essential, but the reason why I journal is because I can read my writing after many months have passed. I can reflect on my life, my actions, my behavior, my memories, and also the behaviors of others around me.

Journaling one's thoughts and feelings is a great way to understand what’s happening.

Individuals battling stress, depression, and anxiety would greatly benefit from journaling.

Writing in a journal aids in reducing stress, alleviating anxiety, and suppressing depression.

In 2020, Habitbetter said 8% of the population journal or have a diary. 74 of that 8% reported that emotional venting is a huge benefit.

In 2018, Psychcentral stated that a study involving 70 adults with elevated anxiety found that journaling for 12 weeks significantly reduces their mental distress.

Journaling can also help a person cope with rumination by allowing them to externalize their anxious thoughts, put them into words, and then put them aside rather than letting them become an obsession. Life has been my greatest teacher. I am a genuine product of what consistent journaling can do for a person's mental health, prayer life, and self-improvement. I have been journaling since elementary school. I love writing so much that whenever I’m in a dark space. I always resort to writing in my journal, followed by effective prayer and reading scripture. I always find myself in a better headspace, ready for a fresh start.

Knowing that my journal is a safe space to be naked allows me to write the stress, depression, and anxiety away. Stress is a state of worry or mental tension caused by a difficult situation. Stress is a normal human reaction that triggers us to address obstacles and threats in our lives. Stress is usually triggered when we experience something unusual or unexpected that we have no control over. Journaling when you are stressed will allow you to gain control of your emotions, identify and reduce unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and identify fears and concerns that may cause you stress or trigger your anxiety.

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. Experiencing emotional abuse

can trigger anxiety problems. Going through stress and trauma at a young age is likely to have a significant impact on anxiety in the future. Journaling helps control your anxiety symptoms and improve your mood.

Journaling about your feelings is linked to decreased mental distress. Just as well as we practice writing exercises for anxiety, we can explore journaling techniques for depression.

Globally, an estimated 5% of adults have been diagnosed with depression. (World Health Organization) Depression is characterized by persistent sadness and lack of interest or pleasure in previously rewarding or enjoyable activities. Individuals who have gone through adverse life events such as unemployment, bereavement, and traumatic events are more likely to develop depression. Medical News Today states that journaling while depressed may help people get their thoughts and feelings on paper. Journaling can serve as a way for individuals to express themselves when feeling depressed. Although journaling is not a replacement for traditional treatment for depression, experts suggest that it can be an effective intervention.

Journaling can reduce your stress by gaining control of your emotions, identifying and reducing unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and identifying fears and concerns that may cause you to stress or trigger your anxiety. Journaling will alleviate stress by taking 15 minutes of your day, and consistently journaling will help prioritize problems, fears, and concerns.

Journaling while depressed allows you to suppress your depression by using your journal as a form of intervention.

In conclusion, Consistent journaling has a significant effect on your mental health.

Knowing that your journal is a safe space to be free allows you to write the stress, anxiety, and depression away.

A statement steeped in both identity and destiny. A statement made by a man who knows both who he is and his own unique contribution and purpose in a world that is filled with so much noise and confusion.

“I am at once, all 3-in-1” James continued; a Haitian who still holds to our nation’s motto that “Together, we are strong”; an African who is proud of his roots and his heritage, and an American who deeply understands that my first world privilege and status through my BIPOC lens gives me a deep understanding and perspective that the world needs to hear. An understanding and perspective of the impact of a global community helping one another advance through shared values, resources, experiences, and opportunities.

The Toussaint Legacy began in 1997 as James invested his own money to purchase a tractor to develop a project in Agriculture designed to develop self-sustainable farm systems that would in turn create jobs. The impact of that initial project has expanded over the past 26 years into the foundation

now known as New-Haiti (Nouvelle Haiti) which entails the non-profit New-Haiti Fund Inc. as well as the newer for profit New-Haiti Enterprises Inc.; allowing those that have a heart for Haiti to both strategically partner and/or strategically give.

According to James, both are valuable, and both are needed for the advancement of the Haitian people, with a specific focus on women and children. As a Haitian-African-American, James shared that he had to first surrender his own pride for a deeper level of understanding in how to address the needs as well as in how to share the needs of his nation with others.

In 2018, James recounts to me, that his Jewish neighbor and mentor, Bryn Cohen, introduced him to the book "Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson. Reading 71

this book had a profound impact on James’ life, resulting in a realignment of his purpose and perspective of his new life in the United States. No longer did James see himself as an outsider, but rather, he became deeply aware of this new perspective of being a Haitian-African-American.

As a man born of the country of Haiti, it had been lost upon him that he could be anything greater than what he already was.

“Haitians were not brought to America as slaves 400 years ago, though we came. We were not invited here like many Europeans, though we came”. It became a question of identity for James, was he an American? An African American? Or a Haitian? “What was given to us was the designation of "Other".

“Other” was the answer checked off on every application until 2018 when I was introduced to “Warmth of Other Suns”. This book resulted in a re-storying of his sense of belonging and engagement within the new country he called home; according to James, “had it not been for Warmth of Other Suns, I would have missed my role in Black Lives Matter, George Floyd, and all the events which affected our people. I found my place in this greater community. We are a community of Colored, Black & Brown people. No longer am I an “Other”.

The big question for James then became, “How do I personally play a role in bringing together Haitians, Africans, and Americans”?

With that, what is now known as New-Haiti was formed with the intentional purpose to serve all people of Haitian descent, in the United States, Haiti and all countries where Haitians have migrated. “No need is too small, and no voice is too quiet to be heard.

New-Haiti is committed to devote the time and energy necessary to educate and be educated; to advocate and to empower”.

This mission and vision were rooted in James own journey to better understand his African American brothers and sisters; to not limit trading pride for understanding, individual obstacles for common ground.

Instead, we now honor and revere the great advancements that African Americans have made in these United States even as we aim to collaborate and see those same great advancements in Haiti.

The Birth of Blossoming Butterfly Warriors

For as long as I can remember dating back to my teenage years, I suffered from what was thought to be anemia. Growing up born and raised Washingtonian I grew up in Ward 8 of Southeast DC, I experienced limited access to good healthcare. It wasn’t until I moved to Japan that I received my real diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Lupus after living with it for over twenty years.

The most common autoimmune diseases are ● Lupus ● Diabetes (Type 1) ● Psoriasis ● Rheumatoid Arthritis

There is a significant difference between United States healthcare system compared to other countries. Japan’s healthcare system costs are half as much as the US. Japan provides a more effective and equitable system that protects many vulnerable individuals while controlling healthcare costs. The United States healthcare system lacks equity and has many health disparities.

As we know, food plays an important role in any chronic illness. Especially amongst people of color.

The US has a food desert that needs to be addressed now. The factors have cause autoimmune diseases to be an epidemic. In order to keep it from destroying lives, we need to find more effective watts to prevent, diagnose, treat, and find a cure.

An equitable health care system ideally provides care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location and sociology economic. As a result of my access to equitable health care overseas, I was diagnosed with three other autoimmune diseases. I live with lupus, sjogren's, Alopecia, and fibromyalgia.

Can you imagine living thirty years without being diagnosed properly? For some people with an autoimmune disease or chronic illness, this could be the difference between life and death.

This is what sparked me to form my non-profit, Blossoming Butterfly Warriors, Inc. We focus on providing education, advocacy, mini grants to assist individuals with copay, medication, and support groups while creating equity and eliminating barriers to healthcare and disparities amongst communities of color. What If I Told You…

By Jerry Mitchell Host of The Entrepreneur’s Edge JAMBlack06@gmail.com I have had the opportunity to travel around my home state of Alabama to speak about Black entrepreneurship and its significance in wealth building for our community. According to U.S. Census data, small businesses make up 99.4% of all Alabama businesses and there are approximately 72,000 Black owned small businesses in Alabama. This represents about 17.25% of all small businesses in our state.

Now that doesn’t sound too bad when considering Black residents make up 26.8% of the state population. However, when we examine Black owned businesses as employers the numbers are quite stark. Most of our businesses are sole proprietors, with only about 2.7% of our Black businesses offering employment opportunities. Small businesses in the state employ 822,000+ people and our Black firms provide about 0.24% of that total.

For me one key to entrepreneurial wealth building in our community is for more businesses to become employers. Imagine the impact if the 70,000 Black sole proprietors could create just one job.

So the question becomes how do we make this happen? What if I told you that over a 120 years ago a path to grow and develop Black businesses was identified.

At Booker T. Washington’s 4th Atlanta Conference in 1898, conference convener Dr. William E. B. Du Bois voiced strategies needed

that conference. Dr. Du Bois’ strategies called for: ● College education for Black Business People (i.e. supremely knowledgeable of your industry and a lifelong learner) ● Black Businesspeople to encourage customer loyalty by being courteous and honest and by using careful business methods (i.e. excellent customer service and use of best practice) ● Blacks patronize Black Business, even to their disadvantage. ● Black churches, schools, and newspapers to promote Black Business ● Blacks to engage in personal savings (i.e. today it includes wealth creation including sound personal credit management) Imagine if this very simple cultural concept was being preached to and applied by our Black Business owners, newspapers/magazines, our churches and communities for the last 120+ years where we could be in 2024..

New Year. Same God. Great is His Faithfulness!

This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

–Lamentations 2:21-23 This is one of my favorite Scriptures. It reminds me of how grateful I am for God’s faithfulness. There are two things the writer references that should give us hope.

The first thing that renews our hope is God’s mercy. Mercy, by definition, denotes that God grants us a pardon for what we’ve done even though we are actually guilty!

Even though we haven’t lived according to all that God has told us to do, God does not punish us for it. Prophet Jeremiah (the writer of Lamentations) shows us that God extends His mercy and helps us recognize that if it hadn’t been for those mercies we would have messed our lives up for good!

But we are not consumed (destroyed), because every single morning that our eyes open, God’s mercies are brand new.

our pain but He desires to alleviate it. Now that’s compassion. It’s God looking toward His children and recognizing when we are hurt or when we’re dealing with issues.

Compassion is God sending us people, words, or signs to show us that He’s listening and He’s near us even in our pain. I don’t know about you, but that gives me hope. He’s there. He hears. He sees. And He answers.

So what am I grateful for in 2024? I am grateful that this is a new year but He is the same God. Great is His faithfulness!

The second reason for the hope of our future in this verse is the reminder that God’s compassion for us NEVER fails.

Compassion means that God not only sees 113

Chocolate Chip Orange Scone Loaf

INGREDIENTS 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for shaping the dough

INSTRUCTIONS 1.

2 tablespoons baking powder 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon salt 1 cup (2 sticks) cold unsalted butter cut into 1/4-inch slices

2 cups mini chocolate chips 1 tablespoon orange zest 1/2 cup heavy cream 2 large eggs plus 1 large egg yolk

1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon whole milk 6.

Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Into a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt. Drop the butter slices into the flour mixture and toss until all of the pieces are coated. With your fingertips, press the slices to flatten, then toss again in the flour.

Stir in the chocolate chips and orange zest until just combined. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream, 2 eggs, and 1/2 cup milk until well blended.

Pour into the flour mixture and mix just until combined. There shouldn’t be any bits of flour left, but avoid overmixing.

Lightly coat 2 Sweet Heritage loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. Lightly flour your work surface.

Transfer the dough to your prepared surface and gently shape into a rectangular loaf. (If the dough starts to stick to your hands, lightly flour your hands.) Cut the dough into two equal portions, carefully lift and insert them into the greased pans.

In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk with the remaining tablespoon of milk until blended. Brush the tops of the loaf with the milk mixture. Bake until golden brown, about 25-30 minutes. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes on a wire rack and serve warm.

Serve with your favorite orange marmalade, honey butter or freshly whipped cream.

Catering Like Carla: To make these ahead, prepare through step 4, then cover tightly with plastic wrap and freeze.

Uncover, brush with the milk mixture, and bake straight from the freezer. They’ll take just a few minutes longer in the oven.

What is a migraine? It is a headache of varying degrees, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to light, sounds, and worsen by smells.

Migraines headaches are sometimes preceded by warning symptoms.

Triggers include hormonal changes, certain foods and drinks, stress, and exercise.

There are different types of migraines, so many people have different experiences with migraines so please view this information as a guide only.

Migraines can first be diagnosed by your primary care provider; and if they are not able to manage your condition; you will need to be referred to a specialist called a neurologist for additional treatments.

Treatment options is based on signs and symptoms, acute or chronic, and associated symptoms.

It is encouraged to keep a headache journal, stay hydrated, get rest and sleep and monitor food intake to decrease the amount of migraines per month.

When I looked at those five questions, it’s hard for me to answer some of them but I know this one thing, I am going to pray, seek God and ask Him what, where and who that I have met back in the past week, month, quarter or year needs to be in the future that He has planned, prepared and positioned for me.
