In the Season of Spring

Spring brings about time change. The awakening of things that have been sleeping. It speaks of renewal and refreshing. Fresh scents. Color comes back during spring. The days are longer and brighter. Spring is the promise of renewal.

What does spring mean in the spiritual realm?

1. You should be planting ideas that may have come to you doing the winter season.

2. You should be seeing God to work on your behalf.

3. You must believe that in the season of Spring God is going to make things new.

4. Spring is the season of renewed energy.

The element wood represents Spring.

Wood is known for its strength and stability. It enables trees to withstand various conditions. As a symbol, wood represents inner strength and the ability to withstand challenges. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Wood is the promise of fruition. It refers to movement which has purpose. Especially upward and forward movement of new growth and vital growth which goes beyond existing boundaries.

As the season of spring unfolds its beauty before us, let us embrace the opportunity for spiritual growth and renewal. Let us cultivate gratitude for the blessings of each new day and honor the sacredness of all life. And let us remember that, like the blossoms that adorn the earth, our souls too are destined to bloom in the light of divine love.

Get ready for your awakening in this season.

Spring, A Time of Refreshing and New Beginnings

When we think about Spring, our minds reflect on seasons past. The seasons of Summer, Fall, and Winter. Each season brought with it, it is own set of memories, some blissful and some, not so. However, as we reflect on the coming of Spring, we think of all of the good and beautiful things that it brings. The warmth of the sun after winter, the smell of fresh fragrance from flowers filling the air, animals reviving out of habitation, birds singing, butterflies flying in their array of beautiful colors, and the opportunity to begin again.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15 speaks of seasons, and that God is always in control. Let us remember to be good stewards of His blessings, using our resources wisely and generously, as we align our hearts with His will. Reflecting on a hopeful, blissful, prosperous, bountiful future and sharing. As stated in (2 Corinthians 8:11-14), let us model our willingness of giving and making provision for others, as the Macedonian Church. There is still suffering and those that are in need.

He has promised a Bountiful Future as stated in, Jeremiah 29:10-14 for those who seek Him with all their hearts. His plans for His people are for good and not for harm. As we look forward to the future with hope and expectation, let us trust in God's faithfulness to lead us into a season of abundance and blessings. Remembering, Spring is A Time of Refreshing and New Beginnings!

Spring, Renewal & Resolution

Ah, the sweet smell of spring is in the air! As the flowers bloom and the birds chirp, it's time for taxpayers to shake off their winter woes and embrace the exhilarating world of tax resolution. If you're knee-deep in tax forms, feeling like you're trying to find a needle in a haystack of deductions, or you've got more receipts than a squirrel stocking up for winter; The mere thought of tax day probably has you wishing you could hibernate until it's all over but don't sweat it, my savvy squad, because I'm here to sprinkle a little springtime flair into your tax game.

Let's talk about options. Tax resolution isn't just a one-and-done deal – it's more like a choose-your-own-adventure novel where every path leads to financial freedom. Whether you're vibing with the finesse of negotiation, feeling the rhythm of an installment plan, or ready to throw down with an offer in compromise, there's a strategy out there with your name on it.

As April 15th creeps closer, it's time to shake off that winter funk and step into the last days of tax season like a boss. After all, when life gives you tax forms, you might as well make it rain deductions – and feel confident doing it! So, if you're currently wading through a sea of paperwork taller than the tulips in your garden and feeling like you're stuck in a neverending winter of tax troubles, fear not, dear taxpayer, for just like the daffodils pushing through the thawing soil, there's hope for a fresh start in the realm of taxes.

Spring: A Season of Spiritual New Beginnings

As the world awakens from its winter slumber, spring appears as a season of spiritual new beginnings. It is a time when nature's transformation replicates the potential for personal growth and transformation within us. It summons us to begin a spiritual journey, to shed old habits, and to envelop the beauty of new beginnings.

Just as the earth begins to bloom, we too can blossom spiritually. The longer days and warmer weather provide the perfect backdrop for self-reflection and soul searching. It is a time to assess our spiritual well-being, to release any negativity or burdens that may have accumulated, and to embrace a fresh start.

Spring is a season of renewal and rebirth. It offers us the chance to let go of old habits and beliefs that no longer serve us. Just as the trees shed their dead leaves, we too can let go of negative emotions, grudges, and attachments. By releasing what no longer serves us, we create space for new growth and positivity to enter our lives.

The arrival of spring also serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of

all living beings. As we witness the blossoming of flowers, the buzzing of bees, and the chirping of birds, we are reminded of the intricate web of life that we are a part of. Spring encourages us to reconnect with God, to appreciate His beauty, and to find solace in His healing presence. Whether it is through gardening, spending time in natural surroundings, or simply taking a walk in the park, we can tap into the splendor of our Creator and align ourselves with the rhythms of His natural world.

Moreover, spring offers us the opportunity to cultivate gratitude and mindfulness. As we witness the transformation of the world around us, we are reminded of the abundance and beauty that exists in every moment. Spring invites us to be present, to savor the small joys, and to express gratitude for the blessings in our lives. By cultivating a mindset of gratitude and mindfulness, we open ourselves up to experiencing greater peace, joy, and spiritual fulfillment that only comes with a relationship with God.

Spring also allows us to connect with our inner selves and to explore our spiritual beliefs and practices. It is a time to deepen our spiritual connection, to

38 | Envision Magazine January - March 2021
April-June 2024

engage in meditation, prayer, and spiritual reflection. Spring invites us to explore new spiritual paths, to attend retreats or workshops, and to seek guidance and wisdom from spiritual devotions or mentors.

Isaiah 43:19a says, “Behold, I will do a new thing, which shall presently spring forth.” Spring is not only a season of physical renewal but also a time for spawning spiritual new beginnings. It is a season that invites us to shed old

patterns, to embrace growth and transformation, and to reconnect with the beauty and abundance of the natural world. Spring encourages us to cultivate gratitude, mindfulness, and a deeper spiritual connection. So, as the world blooms around us, let us embrace the handwork of God and embark on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and renewal.

Live Your Best Life: Spring Forward

Dr. Julia Royston

Host of Live Your Best LIfe & The Book Business Boss Show www.juliaroyston.net

Forward is defined as “toward or at a place, point, or time in advance.” There are people in the world that move consistently forward and we often call them “forward thinkers.” These people can be fully in the present but still mentally see, plan and prepare for what’s coming next. Not only do these people instinctively know what’s coming next but they create, design and develop things that will be vital, important and necessary for the future.

Once a year in the United States, we actually spring forward the clocks an hour for daylight’s savings time. My body physically doesn’t like this weekend. It takes me personally so long to recover and adjust to the new time. My energy levels are affected to the point that I really miss those 60 minutes. I’m sleepy when I should be wide awake. I’m awake when I should be ready to sleep. It’s just one hour but that one hour impacts me greatly. So, imagine trying to work with, work for or live with a forward thinker? It is a lot to deal with mentally, emotionally and financially. Why? Because some people struggle with just living in the present let alone the future.

Life moves at such a fast pace that we want to stop, pause, take some time off or even give up but when there is a call on our lives,

goals to accomplish and families to provide for, we must keep moving. Maybe at a slower pace but keep moving forward. No matter how we feel, no matter what things look like right now or how bleak even the forecasts are for the future, move forward. If you’re not naturally a forward thinker, collaborate with someone who is a forward thinker so that you can be prepared as well. Keep moving. Don’t lose momentum and forward march. Don’t forget to Live Your Best Life! Let’s go!

Unspoken Words

Vernet C. Nettles

UnSpoken Words is a collection of poetry that expresses the heart at its most vulnerable – when it feels unloved, lost, or in pain. Written over the course of my adult life, these poems helped me understand some of my most vulnerable spaces, and allowed me to draw closer to Christ. This collection is dedicated to the fleeting moments of our truest selves that yearn to be heard, to be accepted, and to be loved, but is hidden away by our “life’s realities” of strength, courage, and boldness. Many of these pieces represent me at my most vulnerable. It is my desire to remind us all that life is universal, and we are not alone. See you inside…Purchase the book at www.vernetcnettles.com

All Things New: The Rhythm and the Requirement of Rest

You’re probably wondering what rest has to do with living the successful life that God intended for you. Especially when society tells us that we have to burn the midnight oil, work 25/8, give 1000% and burn the candle at both ends in order to be successful. You’ve heard sleep is for suckers. Why, our own Theresa Thomas, has been guilty of saying she’s not rich enough or thin enough to sleep in. And while I definitely believe in developing a great work ethic, I also believe we need to develop our rest ethic.

So often we are made to feel guilty for needing rest. How many wives, moms or caregivers do I have reading this article who feel guilty when you simply try to take some time to be alone. How many of us feel uncomfortable sitting and doing nothing? We actually convince ourselves that we are lazy if we take a day where we don’t clean the house, don’t work on our business, don’t volunteer for a ministry assignment: we just rest.

Well, let’s take a moment to define rest and see why God Himself established a rhythm and modeled the idea of rest for us. When we look at Genesis chapters one and two, we see the creation story.

God works for six days and on the seventh day He ceases from all His work. He blesses the seventh day and declares it to be holy or set aside for Him. The first word for rest, sabbat, literally means to stop, and the first depiction is God Himself stopping His task of creation. How exhausting could speaking the world into existence be for the God who does not sleep or slumber? Nevertheless, He ceased from His work. The other main Hebrew word for rest is nuakh which means to dwell or settle. This is not the same as clocking out from nine to five. This type of rest is like snuggling up for movie night with the ones you love. This is what God did with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He sabbat and came down to nuakh with them in the cool of the day. The whole idea of rest is for us to be fully present and attentive to and with God.

I think it’s important to note when God introduced the concept of rest to His people and why the Israelites and even believers today tend to mishandle the sabbath and the requirement for rest. Remember, Genesis is written by Moses during the time of the exodus. The Children of Israel have been enslaved for

69

430 years under the cruel Egyptians with no days off. They had no time to cease from work and certainly no time to be in God’s presence. What a miserable existence that had to have been! Is it any wonder Moses asked God to show him His glory? Is it any wonder when God used Moses to tell Pharaoh to release His people, it was so that they could worship Him? How intent is God’s love for His people that He would not allow them to remain in slavery separated from Him!

This concept of sabbath clearly points to Jesus. Salvation through Jesus is the ultimate rest whereby we never have to be separated from God again. From the beginning, God instituted the rhythm of rest until He could send the True Rest He intended for humanity. What a perfect expression of God’s love for us!

I think it’s interesting to note that the straw that broke the camel’s back of the religious leaders and led to Jesus’ crucifixion was the fact that Jesus healed on the sabbath. The Jewish leaders had actually turned keeping the sabbath into work, adding 39 categories of prohibited work and more than 600 commandments or mitzvot detailing what observing the sabbath looked like. At some point, there were more than 1500 ordinances for how to rest on the sabbath! It no longer became about sacred time with God. If we’re not careful, today’s church and ministry leaders can turn observing the sabbath into work and completely miss the intention of rest—ceasing from work and sitting with God.

Now, am I telling you not to serve in the kingdom? In the words of Joya Moore, “God, no!” But I am telling you as Dr. Matisa would, to make a better choice! Find the balance in your day and be intentional to refrain from work, scrolling IG or TikTok and actually sit with God. There’s a reason Jesus said every day is the sabbath. He wants to abide with us daily and download the strategies for navigating life with us. Life gets so busy. It’s easy to crowd our day with so much activity that we do not take time to take a purposeful pause to sit with God. But if we take time to honor the rhythm and the requirement of rest, we will find that He makes all things new!

THE MAKING A DIFFERENCE CONFERENCE 2024

A faith-based retreat is going beyond the soul to help participants be their best all-around selves and making a difference in their community.

The Making a Difference, or MAD, Conference, is gathering experts from all facets of life to guide participants, from adults to youth, to better lives, physically, financially and spiritually, said Pastor Marcus Dixon and Minister Linda Dixon, the organizers.

“Not only do we want to bring community together and provide hope … but we want to show that if we come together, we can be as potent as any community in America,” they said. “That’s what builds communities, relationships and partnerships.”

The conference, which begins every year at 6 p.m. Friday at Camp Nikao, 7566 Shepherdsville Road in Elizabethtown, aims to bring the community together in health, wellness and unity.

“It is a plethora of just learning about life issues,” The Dixons said.

The eighth annual conference happened after a three-year hiatus because of the pandemic, Minister Linda Dixon said, prompting the theme Jesus Has Risen! What Now? Are You MAD? Are You Making A Difference?

“We just thought this was the time for us to come together,” they said. “God said it is in his time and in his season that we are to inspire and uplift the people.”

The three-day conference featured nationally recognized speakers who focused on everything from entrepreneurship for young adults to financial, estate planning, parenting and marriage advice for adults, the Dixons said. Sessions for single adults were also offered.

“It’s for everyone,” they said. “The MAD Conference is for helping people resolve issues and then giving the community the opportunity to come in and tell (participants) how they can help.”

Some of the community organizations that will be there to share about their missions include Brother to Brother, Hardin County Schools Family and Youth Resource Centers, Helping Hands of Hope, Open Doors Soup Kitchen and Bed for Kids.

76 | Envision Magazine January - March 2021
April-June 2024

It began Friday with a spiritual gathering with Gospel singer Kelontae Gavin, who Pastor Marcus Dixon said is uplifting. “I saw him in Pensacola, (Florida), and he brought down the house,” Dixon said. “He doesn’t just sing, he ministers. This is something that God had called him to do.”

Other Gospel artists performed throughout the weekend, including Minister LeKeisha Cotton, who has attended multiple MAD conferences, praise dancer Leonard Tre Peterson III, and local groups, Minister Linda Dixon said.

Youth scholarships also will be presented to honor Kamrin Boone, a graduate student who was about to continue his education to earn a doctorate at a Historically Black College, but was shot and killed in Louisville, the Dixons said. Sprinkled in throughout was local and national spiritual leaders, including Dixon, Archbishop Terrence Elliott, Apostle Carl Smalls of Restoration Worship Center, Bishop Bill Burrell and others.

“It’s a long list of powerful, motivational speakers to empower our people, to give them hope and wisdom and knowledge and understanding,” Pastor Dixon said. “ It began Friday with a spiritual gathering you put your mind to it, you do the work, you network and search out opportunities, you can accomplish whatever it is you desire to accomplish for your life and your career.”

Love and Entrepreneurship

February is the month of love and during that month on my show, Entrepreneur’s Edge with Jerry Mitchell, we wondered out loud about entrepreneurs in love relationships. According to the National Federation of Independent Businesses, about 43% of small business enterprises are family businesses, with 53% of managers sharing day-to-day business responsibilities with a spouse. With all the pressures of running a business, how are they able to work together, especially if they are married.

To explore this topic and get answers, we decided to host 3 married entrepreneurial couples on the show to find out about the love and entrepreneurship mix. The couples ranged from 5 years to nearly 30 years of marriage. All are highly successful serial entrepreneurs.

Here are just a few common takeaways from our conversations.

● If you are starting out in business together, find something you mutually love and are both interested in.

● Set goals together. Share what you both want and see for the future and determine how you can make it happen for each other.

● Identify strengths and determine what role is best suited to each spouse in the business. It is great to have a partner that sees things that the other may not.

● Be open to though conversations and knowing that roles may change with the seasons of your lives. Value each others’ opinions even when you disagree.

● Understand that conversations with your spouse at work are different than those with other co-workers. One of the biggest challenges is bringing business conversations (sometimes disagreements) home, particularly when you don’t have time to decompress.

● There is no work/life balance between business and home. Be intentional about your priorities when it comes to family and your spousal relationship. Habits determine success.

These thoughts seem so simple, yet our divorce rates would indicate they are not as easy to execute as they would appear. One thing rang

84 | Envision Magazine January - March 2021
April-June 2024

true in conversation with all the couples was the spirit of togetherness, as each partner expressed just how much they enjoy being with each other. As the great Al Green lyric says, “happiness is when you really feel good about somebody”.

Liver Cleanse

The reason I am sharing this article. More people are realizing that it is important to cleanse your liver. So pharmaceutical companies are doing what they are good for producing liver supplements and also making them available online in mass quantities. It is hard to know which are truly effective. I believe in going all natural and holistic. Quality liver supplements can provide many health benefits and help the liver function optimally. The problem is finding the right ones at the right dosage. It could be very dangerous if you have limited education or experience.

Milk thistle is an essential ingredient in any quality liver supplement. It has been used for centuries as a natural herbal remedy for common liver ailments. Milk thistle can be used alone in its purest form or added to products. There are liver supplements with milk thistle support which will make for a healthier liver, which is essential for staying healthy as we age. Some

other key ingredients for any effective liver supplement include zinc, beetroot, dandelion, and there are others.

Milk thistle supports healthy inflammation levels in the body and liver and may also assist with cell repair. Research has shown it helps the liver detoxify as well. Zinc is an often-overlooked key ingredient in liver supplements that supports long-term liver function. It plays a pivotal role in a wide range of liver enzymes essential to a healthy liver. If you decided to use pill form just keep this in mind. If the pill supplement does not include Zinc I would search for a better supplement choice.

Beetroot helps the liver detoxify and protects it from inflammation and oxidative damage. It may also activate liver enzymes and help the liver produce bile. Bile is very important to good liver health. It is very healthy to have a bile after you eat a meal. Dandelion helps reduce liver stress and supports bile production. It may support the relief of liver symptoms

Find Your Perfect Skincare Routine

Melanin-rich skin is stunning! Here's a basic routine to keep it glowing:

● Cleanse: Wash twice daily with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser to remove impurities without stripping natural oils.

● Exfoliate: Combat dryness and achieve a smooth, even tone by exfoliating 1-2 times a week with a chemical exfoliant containing AHAs like glycolic or lactic acid.

● Moisturize: Apply a rich moisturizer morning and night to keep your skin hydrated and plump. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, shea butter, or ceramides.

● Sunscreen: Protect your skin from sun damage every single day, even on cloudy days, with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen.

● Target concerns: If you have hyperpigmentation, look for products with vitamin C, kojic acid, or hydroquinone. For acne-prone skin, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can help.

The best skincare products for you will depend on your specific skin type and concerns. Here are some additional tips for finding the right products for your skin tone:

● Look for products labeled "non-comedogenic" or "oil-free" to avoid clogged pores.

● Patch test new products on a small area of your skin before applying to your entire face.

● Consult a dermatologist for personalized advice on skincare products.

Remember, consistency is key! With this basic routine and the right products for your unique needs, you'll be well on your way to achieving healthy, glowing skin that radiates confidence. So go forth and flaunt your radiance! Cheers to your glow Queen!

CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE (CKD)

Chronic kidney disease is caused by a decrease in the ability of the kidneys to carry on usual functions such as eliminating waste products and urine from the body. Some important risk factors for chronic kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, recurrent urinary tract infections and a family history of kidney disease. Patients can live well with chronic kidney disease through patient education, nutrition, medications and a collaborative partnership between physician and patient.

CKD by Age, Sex, and Race/Ethnicity

● CKD is more common in people aged 65 years or older (34%) than in people aged 45–64 years (12%) or 18–44 years (6%).

● CKD is slightly more common in women (14%) than men (12%).

● CKD is more common in non-Hispanic Black adults (20%) than in non-Hispanic Asian adults (14%) or non-Hispanic White adults (12%).

● About 14% of Hispanic adults have CKD.

T

esting and Treatment: Find it Early, Treat it Early

● Test for CKD regularly in people who have diabetes, high blood pressure, or other risk factors for CKD. People with CKD may not feel ill or notice any symptoms until CKD is advanced.

● The only way to find out if people have CKD is through simple blood and urine tests. The blood test checks for the level of creatinine, a waste product produced by muscles, to see how well the kidneys work. The urine test checks for protein, which may indicate kidney damage.

● Following a healthy diet and taking medicine for diabetes, medicine for high blood pressure, and other medicines to protect the kidneys may keep CKD from getting worse and may prevent other health problems such as heart disease.
