Top Ten with Pastor Gregory DeVon
by ANN C. Editor-in-Chief
1. What inspired you and led you to ministry?
I have always had a passion for helping people see their potential, and I’ve always felt a purpose to lead them into fulfilling it. As a child I naturally understood certain aspects of life which lead to my peers trusting me for counsel. I have always felt a sense of responsibility towards humanity, and it gives me joy seeing people reach their best self. Around the age of 19 I felt a deep sense of purpose, and I knew it was the call of God to serve His people. This lead me to engaging several conversations with my Pastor, Dr. Frederick A. Davis of First Calvary Baptist Church in Durham NC. He helped me to understand how to turn the volume of life down and heed the voice of God without becoming anxious to jump into anything. I will always be grateful for his leadership, and I owe Him my gratitude for honoring the call of God on my life.
My parents (Gregory & Trudie Hatcher) have always been my biggest supporters, and they consistently pushed me into purpose. Being raised in a Christian household, my older sister Delecia and I learned about God at an early age. My parents instilled in us a sense of belonging to something greater than ourselves. Having a praying mother and a God fearing father gave me an example of what to be and who to serve. The Christian values
planted in me early proved to be the seeds that have blossomed today. At the age of 20, I peached my initial sermon, and my desire since has been to remain on fire for the Lord.
2. What challenges do you see that Pastors have these days that Pastors of the past did not have?
Pastoring in this climate is challenging, but it's also fulfilling. With the ever-expanding technological advances of today, people have access to everyone’s ministries. Therefore the potential to stay home and view church from Bedside Baptist has increased. Post-Pandemic, the culture and climate of church has shifted. There are still those who do not trust being in physical worship, but they still have a desire to be shepherded. In order to stay relevant, you have to invest in technology. People need the Word of God by any means necessary, and it’s the man/woman of God’s responsibility to ensure they get it.
Pastoring is so much more than preaching, and it’s imperative that every Pastor understand that. Feeding the sheep isn’t limited to preaching from the pulpit. We must also fulfill the various needs of individuals by providing the tools necessary to sustain their lives. Its not simply ones spiritual needs that we have to meet, it's also their practical human needs that we

must assist with as well. Facing an ever changing economy, we can’t preach to the spirit and ignore your mind. We have empower people to reach inside and pull out the greatness that God has placed inside. As Pastors we must understand that theology that has no psychological impact will never change anyone’s life. Scripture says that we must be transformed by renewing our mind.
3. What advice would you give up and coming Pastors?
Anyone desiring to be in ministry and especially ones who feel they have a call to Pastor should keep humility at the forefront of all they do. We are servants not celebrities. Our call is to serve this present age, and it's our calling that we must fulfill. Pastors don’t need to seek to make a name for themselves, we must strive to magnify the name of the Lord. Our desire should be to make God’s name bigger, and the gospel influence greater. Preaching is only an aspect of Pastoring, so find your unique voice. Never omit the need to visit the sick, go to events of your parishioners, show up when you can to a youths game/play, pray for the disciples, train leaders, and be a good steward of what God has allowed you to lead.
4. You are considered by many as the Relationship Pastor! What would you tell a Christian man or woman struggling with being single in the church?
Singleness is not a disease that needs to be cured. Its gift from God to serve Him without the distraction of having to split your time with someone else. Married doesn’t mean happy, and single doesn’t mean miserable. We have a responsibility as singles to learn how to be Saved, Single, and
Satisfied. That doesn’t mean that we have to ignore our desire to be married. It means that we understand what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:11. He said in all things I have learned to be content. We must be content as a Single individual, because we can be no better married than we are Single. This is why we should primarily pursue PURPOSE and not PEOPLE. Psalm 91 says that “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” When our desire is to pursue the secret place of the most High, we position ourselves to see first The Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Then we are promised that all other things will be added unto. If men and women of God seek the same place in God, then when they meet, it will be no secret who is doing the introduction.
5. What can the church do to embrace and nurture single members?
Every Church needs a Singles ministry. This is not to segregate a demographic, its to encourage the fellowship of people who are in the same season of life. Singles need a place of understanding which speaks to their circumstance. Being around individuals who are experiencing life in a similar season helps to provide support and encouragement for Singles. In most churches, Single adults make up about 30% of the population, so it's imperative that we don’t ignore their need. Singles often feel there is no place for them in the church, because the concentration is often centered on marriage. We have to remember that there were single individuals in the bible who accomplished great things for the kingdom. Some
examples are Jeremiah, Deborah, Ruth, Apostle Paul, Mary Magdalene, Martha, Mary the sister of Martha, Lazarus, and our Lord and Savior Jesus!
6. Your favorite scripture and why it is your favorite?
My favorite scripture is Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and He delighteth in his way.” That scripture has always spoken to me because it doesn’t mean what you would think. It doesn’t mean that every step of a good man will be perfect. It means that God makes our steps firm. If our steps are firm, we always have an opportunity to correct course when we error. That to me will preach! It doesn’t matter if we take a bad step, a back step, a side step, or if we do the two step. God is still able to make our steps firm so that failure is not final. I’m reminded of the words of that great R&B prophet Bobby Brown when he said “Every Little Step I take, You will be there. Every little move I make, we’ll be together.” That sounds like good news to me. The assurance in knowing that God won’t leave me or forsake me even when I’m wrong is a reason to love God with my whole heart!
7. In today’s world, many people are facing challenges such as division and uncertainty. How do you think the church can play a role in fostering healing among individuals?
Inside the church, we have a responsibility to help people bridge the gap between humanity and divinity. We have to connect Psychology with Theology. People often struggle with how to make the bible meet life, so they become great at being spiritual, but they fail at being human. Jesus came to earth as a human so we could identify with
an earthly example of how to live righteous. People are hurting in their humanity, and they need help allowing their spirit to speak to their brokenness. Our spirit is where God lives, and it's our spirit which keeps our soul under subjection. The soul is our mind, will, and emotions. So the church must help people think, find direction, and manage their feelings. Soul in the Greek is Psyche, and this is where the word psychology comes from. It's our psychology that we wrestle and struggle with. People often struggle with being able to think critically in crisis. This is why we must preach to people's intellect and help them learn to process life through God's word.
8. What so you believe is the biggest challenge of the church at this time? The biggest challenge of the Church is relevancy. There are so many attacks on Christianity that no other faith faces. The attacks are not even always foreign. We often become an army who attacks its own. Whenever we argue internally over tradition vs. non-tradition, we lose sight of keeping the main thing the main thing. As long as we agree on the destination, the journey can engage compromise. Our struggle today is contending with differences that seek to keep the body of faith distracted. We live in a world today which has redefined everything from gender, sexuality, marriage, respect, morality etc. Society seeks to have everyone believe that we can rewrite the rules of what is right and what is wrong; even if it makes no logical sense at all. This has even worked its way into the church, and we have to be ready to speak truth to power without excluding anyone from the love of God.
9. What is 2025 looking like when it comes to your church outreach? What type of events are you going to be doing for your community?
At the church I proudly Pastor, we have an outreach ministry which not only serves internally, but they seek to partner with the community in efforts to reach the least, lost and the left out. We have health fairs throughout the year, friendship stews where we invite the community to eat soup and visit various vendors who are set up, we have food pantry which provides groceries to those in need, we provide socks and gowns to local convalescent homes, just to name a few. In 2025 we will be partnering with the Granville County senior center to expand our outreach efforts in this area.
10. Where is your church located and service times if we wanted to visit?
New Grassy Creek Missionary Baptist Church is located at 8182 Cornwall Rd. Oxford, NC 27565. We have worship at 11 am. We are a church where worship is genuine, and Jesus Christ is Lord. Our Theme for the coming year 2025 is E3 (Evangelize the Sinner, Equip the Saint, and Exalt the Savior).

5 Tips for New Pet Owners
By VetsnYou
Welcoming a new pet into your home is exciting, but it also requires preparation to ensure your furry friend feels loved and comfortable. Here are five essential tips for first-time pet owners:
1. Choose the Right Pet for Your Lifestyle
Take into account your living situation, work schedule, and personal preferences when choosing a pet. Research breeds to find one that aligns with your activity level, home space, and family dynamics. Be mindful of allergies or sensitivities that you or your family members may have, as some pets can trigger allergic reactions or asthma symptoms.
2. Set Up Your Home
Before your pet arrives, create a safe and comfortable environment. Pet-proof your home by removing hazardous substances, securing loose wires or cords, and storing cleaning supplies, medications, and toxic plants out of reach. Designate a cozy space for your pet, including a bed or crate, food and water bowls, and toys.
3. Create a Routine
Establish a consistent schedule for feeding, exercise, and bathroom breaks. Determine
the right type and amount of food based on your pet’s age, size, and breed. Spend daily quality time with your pet, providing affection, mental stimulation, and attention.
4. Budget for Your Pet’s Needs
Owning a pet comes with financial responsibilities. Be prepared for costs like food, grooming, veterinary care, vaccinations, and preventive medications. Additionally, factor in expenses for supplies like toys, bedding, and litter.
5. Find a Reliable Veterinarian
Regular check-ups with a trusted veterinarian help ensure your pet stays healthy. Ask friends, family, or neighbors for recommendations and read reviews online. Visit potential veterinarians to meet their staff, tour the facilities, and ask any questions you may have.

A Blessed Season
by Bishop Marcus and First Lady & Minister Linda Dixon of House of Manna bread of life Church www.hombolchurch.com
go out and purchase gifts and food at the skyrocketing prices of today. The objective is to have the churches, businesses, schools, and other community leaders and groups support, by donating and allowing the parents of these families to purchase their children gifts from the inventory that has been purchased and stored at churches in the community. The parents can shop for their kids and pay $10 for each child and can purchase up to six items for each child!
During This Blessed Season
We want to echo the scripture 2 Corinthians 9:15: “Thank God for his gift that words can’t describe!”
ACTS 20:35 – Jesus says, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive. Bishop Marcus and Lady Minister Dixon want to thank God for this time and season. God wants us to illuminate the light of Christ Jesus this season by starting a ministry with Signature Health Nursing Home in Radcliff, Kentucky. The ministry will consist of the Radcliff North Hardin Ministry Association coming to the nursing home twice a month on Sundays at 6:00 pm to minister to the occupants by sharing in song, prayer, devotion, conversation, and of course the word of God. We are planning for each church of the organization to come together and fellowship with the nursing home population at this service.
We enjoy helping with fundraisers and Helping Hand of Hope Affordable Christmas campaign for those who are economically challenged and are not able
Throughout our time as pastors for the House of Manna Bread of Life, Bishop and Lady Dixon have used the church as a venue for community events, such as the annual Making a Difference Conference. This year’s conference will be held on March 28-30 of 2025. The conference invites local leaders in areas such as business, education and government to “work together in helping everyone find their purpose.”
“We believe in family, community and that it takes a village to raise a child and therefore, we are seeking to engage our community to work together in the development of its citizens to include all the children in our community, This may come by encouragement, investment or for the most part, a loving and caring concern for people and their plight in life and an effort to expose them to the world of opportunities available to them.”
Bishop Marcus Dixon and First Lady & Minister Linda Dixon hope that God will bless you abundantly with love all through this glorious season that our Lord is exalted and celebrated! Jesus Is always the Reason For The Season!

Plan for a Secure Financial Future

A bumpy economy and rising cost of living have Americans rethinking their finances.
According to the Financial IQ Study by World Financial Group, about 36% of households feel anxious about their current financial situation.
Short-term pressures can make planning difficult, but developing a financial strategy grounded in literacy and resilience is key to building a solid financial future. Financial literacy refers to knowledge, while resilience means being prepared for unexpected financial events.

Here are some tips to help you build a more financially sound future:
Review Your Current Financial Situation
Understand your income and expenses to identify areas for adjustment. While day-to-day living costs are a priority, planning for the future is essential. Determine what money comes in, what you owe, and how much is left for saving or discretionary spending.
Start Saving Now
It’s never too early to begin saving. Even small amounts grow over time. Aim to save 20% of your income if possible, and consider options like employer retirement savings programs, especially those with matching contributions.
Consult a Financial
Professional
A financial professional can help create a personalized strategy for your goals. They specialize in areas like life insurance, retirement planning, and wealth-building strategies. Take a financial literacy quiz to assess your resilience and readiness for economic challenges.
Prepare
for Unexpected Expenses
Unexpected events like illness, home repairs, or medical bills can disrupt financial plans. Create an emergency fund separate from your savings account to help offset these costs.
Safeguard Your Family
Life insurance can protect your family’s finances if a primary income earner passes away.
Term life insurance provides coverage for a specific period and is often less expensive.
Permanent life insurance (e.g., whole-life policies) remains in effect as long as premiums are paid and includes a savings component that builds cash value.

Living and Thriving in 2025!

Author, Publisher, Life Coach, Singer & Motivational Speaker www.juliaroyston.net | www.envision-radio.com
There are two definitions of the word thrive and that is “to prosper; be fortunate or successful” or “to grow or develop vigorously;” or the synonym is ‘advance.’ (www.dictionary.com) Focus on the second definition for a moment, to grow and develop is a goal that we all should have no matter what that looks like. Growing, developing, learning and evolving at our own pace, with our vision and fully intentional in the use of our gifts, talents and abilities. Yes, I stretched the definition but living my best life is just that, growing and developing into my best self. Being prosperous or successful takes on a different meaning and one that others will strive to comment on, offer suggestions or criticism. That’s your decision but as for me, I offer four suggestions as you close out the day, month or year.
Pause and Ask Yourself “Where am I?” – At times we can easily go off course and start chasing, pursuing or creating space for someone’s else purpose and not our own. Where are you?
Re-Check the GPS “Where am I going?” –The second part of this question can be, ‘where should I be going?’ to make sure that you are actually headed in the direction of the correct destination.
Check Your Circle “Who is still with me?” –As I’ve gotten older, I look around and my circle has changed. Some people left on their own. Others left because you outgrew them and there was no more space for them. On the other hand, celebrate those that are still with you.
Let Everyday Be About Your Why and Purpose – Hopefully your career or business allows for you to fulfill part of your why each day but if not, take 15 minutes at the beginning, middle or end of your day to satisfy that part of you that is the core of you whether they pay you or not. Thrive!

The Allure of Fake Eyelashes: Enhancing Beauty and Confidence
By Carey L. ACE Beauty Consultant
Fake eyelashes have become a popular beauty accessory for many, ranging from everyday users to high-profile celebrities. These artificial enhancements are designed to add volume, length, and drama to one's natural lashes, transforming an ordinary look into something extraordinary.
One of the primary reasons people wear fake eyelashes is to boost their appearance. Long and lush lashes are often associated with youth and femininity, making them desirable. Eyelashes frame the eyes, and enhancing them can create a more expressive and captivating look. Whether it’s for a night out, a special event, or simply to enhance day-to-day makeup, fake lashes provide an instant upgrade.
Additionally, fake eyelashes can bolster confidence. For many individuals, wearing them allows for self-expression and experimentation with different styles. From natural looks to bold,
voluminous options, there is a lash style to match every personality and occasion. Many find that the added definition around the eyes draws compliments and attention, further boosting self-esteem.
Moreover, advancements in materials and application techniques have made fake eyelashes more accessible and comfortable to wear than ever. Options range from strip lashes, which are easy to apply, to more intricate individual lashes that can provide a custom look.
In essence, the popularity of fake eyelashes lies in their ability to transform not just a makeup look but also the wearer's confidence, allowing individuals to express their unique beauty in creative ways.
