Harbour Heights

Term- Spring 2023

Program- ARCH 3007, Studio 2

Instructor- Marlene Slopack and Steffanie Adams

Software used- Revit, Lumion

Harbour Heights aims to create a sustainable, functional, and visually appealing mixed-use building on Toronto’s waterfront. The design showcases the potential of timber construction as an environmentally friendly alternative while seamlessly blending with the urban environment.

The design places a strong emphasis on sustainability. The use of glue-laminated and cross-laminated timber significantly reduces the building’s carbon footprint by sequestering carbon dioxide and minimizing the use of energy-intensive materials. Energy efficiency extends beyond the structure itself, with the incorporation of a solar panel system from a local Toronto company as the exterior cladding. This system allows the building to absorb solar energy across its entire surface.

Various strategies are employed to minimize reliance on mechanical heating and cooling systems. These include sun shading louvers on the roof, vertical louvers on the podium, a green roof system, high-performance windows, and a clay heating and cooling system.

Overall, the design of Harbour Heights demonstrates a commitment to sustainability, integrating timber construction and energy-efficient systems to create an environmentally conscious and visually appealing building that harmonizes with its surroundings.

The design of the auto dealership building draws inspiration from dynamism and fluidity, aiming to create a sense of movement and energy. The building’s form and materials express excitement and provide a unique experience for customers, workers, and visitors. Unlike typical box-like structures, the dealership building showcases an expressive and captivating design. The exterior features an irregular shape with sharp angles, resembling the sleek lines and aerodynamic profile of a sports car, conveying a modern architectural look. Using a combination of metal panels, curtain walls, and GFRC, the facade adds texture and depth. The ground floor office area roof exhibits a melting or dripping effect, employing various materials and textures to evoke a sense of fluidity and motion. This design element not only adds visual interest but also provides shade to certain areas of the building. Inside, a wood wave ceiling and geometric steel column designs contribute to a modern atmosphere, harmonizing with the building’s exterior. The building is considered an extension of the dealership’s brand and values, reflecting their belief that an attractive building serves as a powerful marketing tool and enhances the overall customer experience

Low-Rise Commercial -Mass timber Project

Term- Summer 2023

Program- CADE 3002

Instructor- Justin Horvath

Software used- Revit,Twinmotion

Structural wood products offer practical and innovative solutions for constructing low-rise commercial buildings. Increasingly, wood construction is gaining popularity as a favorable alternative to traditional concrete and steel methods. This project serves as a valuable resource to enhance comprehension of the timber wood construction process.

The structural components of this 3-story commercial building include a glulam post-and-beam frame, with CLT floor panels spanning between the beams. To enhance stability, 5-ply shear walls are strategically placed on the sides of the building, as well as around the stair and elevator openings.

The project’s focus on detailing and drafting to creating the architectural and structural drawings from scratch that allows for a comprehensive understanding of how the construction elements connect and come together to form a standing structure. Detailed drawings and exploded views play a crucial role in identifying these connections, ensuring precise and efficient construction.

Dynamo Parametric Facade Design Project

Term- Summer 2023

Program- ARCH 3012

Instructor- Hoda Ganji

Software used- Revit, Daynamo,Twinmotion

The façade is one of the most prominent and critical elements of a building’s design, as it serves as the outer shell that defines its aesthetic appearance and often influences its energy performance. By using parametric design through Dynamo, a wide range of design possibilities can be achieved and help to effectively respond to specific contextual and environmental considerations. With parametric design, the façade can be easily iterated upon and adjusted to meet changing design requirements. Through the use o different nodes it is possible to generate intricate and unique façade patterns and elements that would be challenging or time-consuming to create manually.

Establish the arrangement of points along the desired axis, beginning from the x-axis and extending across the z-axis

Step 4

Step 2

Step 3

Inside every circle a 4 sided polygon is created. The size of the polygon is adjustable with change of the circle.

By utilizing the lacing command, the points will be distributed along all the x and z coordinates.

Step 5

Circular shapes are positioned precisely at each point coordinate. Additionally, a customizable radius size is assigned to these circles, providing you with the flexibility to modify their dimensions as needed.

The overlapping of the diamonds created a distinctive and captivating design. By manipulating the radius of the circles, the polygons inside them can be adjusted to achieve even more intricate overlapping patterns. Once the desired shape is attained, the other elements, such as the circles and remaining polygons, can be hidden, leaving only the desired design visible.

Wall Sections

Term- Winter 2022

Program- ARCH 1005, Studio 1

Instructor- Stepfano Pupella

Hand sketck using Pencil and scaled rulers

Emphasizes drawings of several wall sections made to enhance our understanding of wall assemblies. The drawings are all made by hand sketching using both imperial and metric rulers. The process emphasizes the value of accuracy as well as persistence because a single drawing takes more time to create than using a digital software. The three wall sections differentiate by the finish material used as well as the construction of the foundation walls. The finished materials constitute brick, wood, and stucco while the foundation is made of poured concrete and ICF foundation blocks to demonstrate the different ways of doing the foundations of walls.

Using the CWC R calculator, a suitable wall type with the desired R-value was located. With this information in hand, a new wall assembly was meticulously reconstructed in Revit. To achieve the target R-value, each layer of the wall was carefully labeled and adjusted accordingly, ensuring compliance with the specified thermal insulation requirements

Revit skill Practice: Demolising and Addition 6

Term- Winter 2023

Program- CADE 3001

Instructor- Justin Horvath

Software used- Revit

This activity in Revit primarily focuses on understanding construction changes over time for an existing building plan. The first step involves creating the appropriate phase filter and phase to distinguish between demolition and new additions. After analyzing the floor plan, the necessary walls and fixtures slated for removal are demolished using the designated tool. Each change is assigned to the correct phase to maintain accuracy.

For the front entry, two canopy designs were created as design options. This allows for the presentation of different design choices for the canopy.

Furthermore, a schedule was generated to compile essential project information and facilitate efficient management of the con-

The project was situated at the intersection of Bloor and Lansdown, where a mixed-use building was constructed on an existing site covering an area of 1556.7m2. This three-story structure includes an underground parking level and accommodates both commercial and residential spaces. The building's structural component relies on engineered wood to ensure stability. Throughout the building, four different types of wall finish materials were used. The first floor was specifically designed for retail units, while the upper levels offer ample and well-designed apartment units.

Hand Sketch and Painting

Growing up I have always had a passion for painting and sketching. I recall the first watercolor paintings I made as a young girl, which sparked my deep enthusiasm and desire for art and sketching. Over the years, I was unable to pursue my drawing talents until the outbreak of the covid 19 virus, which ultimately led to a twoyear quarantine, and as a result, I was able to restore my hobbies and interests back to life as I had more time on my hands to improve my drawing skills while also enhancing my creativity. As a result, I devoted my time and energy to creating such artistic and appealing paintings, sketches, and portraits of people. Pouring art was also something that I started experementing with.

Craft and Design/Sweven Events

For more than a year, I worked as an event planner and organizer. I founded Sweven Events with a close friend to plan and create decorations for various occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, weddings, and many more. The decorations include a variety of arts and crafts made by hand in accordance with consumer requests. Despite its appearance as a glamorous and simple carrier, it presupposes a great deal of patience, creativity, coordination, and leadership skills. We used a refined, stylish, and contemporary approach through a thoughtful and detailed process to plan and design authentically as well as create a memorable and timeless experience for our customers.
