02 Dear Reader, After several months of restrictions due to the corona pandemic, it feels as if a certain level of normality has been restored. However, we are still miles away from our previous daily routines. Regulations are still in force ― and, in the opinion of many politicians, destined to remain in place until a vaccine against the coronavirus becomes available.

But as the search for such a vaccine continues, new studies by the Dr. Rath Research Institute are already offering hope in the fight against the pandemic.

Our research team has found that combinations of micronutrients can significantly reduce the number of cellular "entry doors" that all coronaviruses use to enter human cells. Additionally, the interaction of the virus binding site with the virus "anchor" on the surface of cells can be almost completely inhibited by micronutrients, as the latest studies by the research institute show.

MICRONUTRIENTS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC Interview with Dr. Rath about the new study results of our research institute On July 3, the Dr. Rath Health Foundation issued a press release announcing a breakthrough in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic (see p. 9).

Scientists of the Dr. Rath Research Institute were able to show for the first time that a combination of specific micronutrients can significantly reduce the number of receptors on human cells, which are required by the coronavirus to establish an infection. These receptors, known as "angiotensinconverting enzymes 2" (ACE2), are considered the "entry door" of coronaviruses into cells.

Dr. Rath, what significance do you attach to the new study?

The findings of our new study cannot be overemphasized, since we are providing scientific proof that micronutrients are an effective tool in the fight against the current pandemic. We have pointed out before that certain combinations of micronutrients not only strengthen the immune system in general but are also effective against many viruses, and could therefore be used to control the coronavirus pandemic. With our latest publication we can confirm this finding.

To get an idea of how coronaviruses enter human cells and cause an infection, we need to look at the structure of a virus. Viruses consist of genetic material ― DNA or RNA ― and an envelope of proteins that enables them to bind to specific receptors on the surface of human cells. These "binding sites" serve as entry doors for coronaviruses into the body.

They are a protein structure also known as angiotensin-converting enzymes 2, or ACE2 for short. Without this receptor, the virus cannot cause an infection.

What were the results in detail?

The aim of our study was to investigate whether a specific micronutrient combination, consisting of vitamin C, certain amino acids, polyphenols and trace elements, is able to reduce the entry doors in human lung epithelial cells and in vascular endothelial cells ― two cell types that are particularly susceptible to infection by the coronavirus. Both cell types were treated with increasing concentrations of micronutrients.

One result was that the micronutrient composition was able to reduce the formation of the entry doors in proportion to its concentration. At the highest concentration, ACE2 receptors were reduced by 50 percent in the vascular cells and 41 percent in the lung cells.

Furthermore, our researchers found that this inhibitory effect was even more pronounced under inflammatory conditions.

This is a remarkable result considering that infections are generally associated with inflammatory processes.

Considering these results—including the proven efficacy of micronutrients in strengthening the immune system against pathogens—it is easy to see how important micronutrients are in bringing the current pandemic under control.

In this experimental arrangement the cells were stimulated with pro-inflammatory signal molecules, so-called cytokines. In the presence of these inflammatory cytokines, the formation of ACE2 receptors was suppressed by 81 percent. This means that the inhibitory effect of the micronutrient composition is even more pronounced in the presence of inflammation. It is important to note that any reduction in the number of co-

How can the new findings explain the pandemic "hotspots"?

During the current pandemic it soon became evident which regions were particularly affected by the coronavirus. These include developing countries, economically weakened countries, large cities, nursing homes and similar institutions. The common denominator in

all these areas is a chronic undersupply of micronutrients, meaning that people living in these places are an easy target for the virus because their immune system is particularly weakened due to a long-term deficiency of micronutrients.

For example, the diet in nursing homes is extremely deficient in fresh fruit and vegetables. People in large cities primarily eat vitamin-poor, processed foods or fast food. The coronavirus pandemic is thus the inevitable consequence of a much larger "pandemic", namely a worldwide immune deficiency due to a completely inadequate supply of micronutrients.

What significance do the findings of the new study have for these regions of the world, for example the developing countries?

With these findings, Cellular Medicine is showing a method to control the coronavirus pandemic naturally, which is especially promising for poorer countries.

Research made possible by our Health Alliance vaccine developments use a second virus, the adenovirus, as a carrier to deliver the corona vaccine into the body's cells. The long-term consequences of such a strategy on the human genome are unknown ― and not reversible.

Micronutrients enter the cell and its nucleus and exert a regulatory role on the DNA that leads to a decreased expression of ACE2 receptors on the cell surface. Thus, the entry doors for the virus are not just blocked synthetically, but there are simply significantly fewer entry doors available— or none at all. All of this is achieved without any side effects. There is no clearer expression of the superiority of our micronutrient approach.

Natural health approaches that could help prevent future pandemics conflict with the business interests of this industry.

Since this industry has effectively lost the "scientific battle" against natural health approaches, political pressure is one of the few remaining means of keeping its multi-billion-dollar business alive. This is done, for example, by urging political representatives to pass laws that deny millions of people free access to effective natural therapies. The so-called "Codex Alimentarius" commission (https://www. dr-rath-foundation.org/2020/06/the-codexalimentarius-commission-the-facts-thateveryone-needs-to-know), which attempts to enforce a worldwide ban on micronutrient therapies, is a good example of this.

Will the outcome of the study encourage a change in public health policy, and will there be a shift towards the use of micronutrients instead of vaccinations in the future?

In short, a change in policy will not happen by itself, but only under pressure from the millions of people who have already recognized the health benefits of micronutrients.

From the very beginning of the crisis, it has been apparent that politicians are systematically ignoring effective micronutrientbased health strategies. Currently there is still no clear recommendation on the part of the authorities to strengthen the population’s immune system by means of a vitamin-rich diet or the use of dietary supplements ― despite the growing recognition of the link between nutrition and infectious disease.

What can the Health Alliance do to ensure that this breakthrough receives more attention throughout the world?

The reason for concealing this scientifically undisputed connection is obvious. For decades, politics has been under the influence of the pharmaceutical investment industry, whose existence is based on the sale of patented synthetic drugs. It is not the solution, but the main obstacle in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

I recommend that our members first acquaint themselves with the new scientific publication in detail and then pass on the information to politicians at a local and national level. Tell them about the scientific advances that have been made in micronutrient research and encourage them to implement natural health approaches in the global fight against the coronavirus.

Micronutrient Combination Suppresses Cell ‘Entry Door’ For Coronavirus A research team from the Dr. Rath Research Institute led by Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki has demonstrated that a combination of specific micronutrients is able to significantly lower the number of receptors on human cells that are necessary for viral infection of the human body.

Ever since the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor was identified as the ‘entry door’ for coronaviruses to infect the human body, the race was on to ‘close this door’. One group of researchers embarked on the search for a vaccine to raise antibodies in the patient’s body that would be capable of blocking these ‘doors’. Another group of researchers chose a more direct approach: they tried to find ways to decrease the number of viral ‘doors’ expressed by down-regulating their production at the level of DNA. Now a team of researchers from the Dr. Rath Research Institute may have won this race. They convincingly demonstrated that a defined combination of micronutrients, composed of bioactive natural molecules, is able to significantly lower the expression of ACE2 receptors in cell types preferentially affected by the coronavirus, the lung (epithelial) cells and vascular (endothelial) cells.

Particularly significant is the fact that under stimulation with inflammatory signal molecules (cytokines) – a test setting mimicking clinical infections – ACE2 receptors expression was suppressed by 81%, leaving less than 20% of these viral ‘entry doors’ available.

Moreover, vitamins are essential for an optimum function of the immune system, enhancing production, migration, and microbial-killing capacity of defending leukocytes – facts that are documented in every leading textbook of biology and biochemistry. Such a broad spectrum of biological defense is a precondition for the prevention of future pandemics.

Effective immediately, there is now a safe and affordable strategy available to the people and governments of the world to help control the current pandemic and prevent future ones.

Overcoming challenges: In an attempt to protect the pharmaceutical investment business with patented drugs, its stakeholders have embarked on a worldwide campaign to outlaw free access to vitamins and other micronutrients. Trying to justify their actions, they claim to want to protect consumers from the allegedly harmful side effects of these safe natural substances. Is diet a sufficient source of micronutrients?

The pitfalls of a supposedly healthy diet It is often claimed that a balanced diet provides all essential nutrients in sufficient quantities. In this article we take a critical look at whether this is really the case and what problems may arise with regard to micronutrient supply.

The problem of food production.

Natural foods such as fruit and vegetables grow mainly in monocultures, which is the cultivation or growth of a single crop on an entire field. The problem with monocultures is that certain nutrients become depleted from the soil due to the crop’s specific nutrient demand. Therefore fertilizers must be used to encourage plant growth. The 2012 nutrition report1 of the German Nutrition Society (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung, DGE) revealed that many individuals did not meet the minimum recommended daily intake of 400 g of vegetables and 250 g of fruit per day. The nutrition report of 20162 did not show any improvements either ― on the contrary, there was a clear downward trend in the consumption of fresh fruit.

Both the decreasing nutrient content as well as the decreasing consumption of natural products contribute to the fact that we do not get enough cellular nutrients through our diets.

The problem of an increased demand.

Our modern living conditions and eating habits involve further factors which can cause a deficiency of cellular nutrients.

For example, smoking, alcohol and stress lead to an accelerated breakdown of the cellular nutrient concentration in the body, which is usually much too low anyway.

There is a multitude of other harmful substances in the environment that burden the body and may impair its functions. The cells of the detoxification organs require micronutrients in order to maintain the highest performance level.

With every breath, we use up cellular nutrients to scavenge free radicals that enter our lungs from car and industrial exhaust gases. This is especially the case for people living in a large city or conurbation.

Children report on our school garden project in Africa

Letters from Uganda Billions of people worldwide suffer from an undersupply of micronutrients, many of whom are children. The consequences: A weakened immune system, chronic disease, growth disorders, reduced learning ability and many other health problems. Children in developing countries are particularly affected.

To provide people in developing countries with access to healthy, micronutrient-rich food, the Dr. Rath Health Foundation has been supporting school gardens in Uganda for about six years. Under the guidance of the Movement of Life initiative, school children learn important knowledge about the cultivation of fruit, vegetables and medicinal plants, about healthy nutrition and the principles of Cellular Medicine. This knowledge enables young people to provide for themselves and their families ― and to prevent disease in the long term. This is particularly important in view of the current pandemic.

With the help of the initiative, many children have set up health parliaments in their schools whose tasks include the dissemination of health information at school and in the local community. In this way, more than 100,000 people in Uganda have already benefited from the project.

Dear Sir, This is to appreciate the work you are doing in our school and other schools in our district.

Dear Sir, I am writing this letter to appreciate the wonderful things that you’ve done for us in our school and for us as pupils.

I would like to let you know that through the Movement of life projects such as the school Health Parliament club I have learnt and benefited in the following ways:

I would like to let you know that the Movement of Life projects have helped us to learn how to share with others, and in the parliament debates we exchange ideas about challenges we face in life and how to solve them.

I have learnt how to communicate in public through participating in parliamentary debates.

Secondly, I have learnt how to bed the seeds and to remove them from the bed to plant them while spacing them in big gardens (transplanting).

I have gained skills, especially controlling pests using natural and local means.

I have learnt the benefits of fruits and vitamin C to our health.

Thirdly, since you brought this project, we started eating a balanced diet and vegetables like carrots, cabbages, and many others at school, and we look healthy. All these are got from our own gardens.

I and my fellow pupils have learnt how to garden and have started small projects in our homes. I cannot use a single word to explain how useful this project is to me.

I have also learnt how to treat some diseases using organic medicine and this has reduced our family’s expenditure on manufactured drugs.
