DEDI

DEDY SUFRIADI (b. 1976, Palembang, Indonesia) is the second of six siblings and began painting seriously at the age of 15 while still in Senior High School for the Arts (SMSR). From there, he went on to study at the prestigious Indonesian Institute of the Arts (Institut Seni Indonesia) in Yogyakarta, where he majored in painting. In 2013, he obtained his Masters degree from the same institution.

In the past few years, Dedy Sufriadi has also been creating large-scale installations that elaborate and elucidate the changing literacy landscape from analog to digital, an extension of his focus on text beyond the canvas. More recently a simulated rain installation, inundating thousands of books with water, became the centerpiece for his 18th solo exhibition “Superficial Readers” in 2020, this time a statement about the changing literacy habits of readers today as the shift from the analog to digital worlds occurs. The change in text delivery medium affects our reading intensity to becoming more casual and generally more superficial in what we absorb from our textual consumption.

19 ELDWIN PRADIPTA

ELDWIN PRADIPTA born in Jakarta (1990). Graduated from Faculty of Art & Design, Bandung Institute of Technology, majoring in intermedia art studio, currently living and working in Bandung, Indonesia. His work primarily explores video installation and digital projection as media. For him, media art has an interesting position between the distinction of high art and low art. His early works often focus on the subject of populist or low art in Indonesia, in placement and dichotomized with high art objects and praxis. People's lives also become one of the backgrounds and recurring themes in some of his works. Through such a perspective, Eldwin highlights the divisions and ruptures in the fabric of everyday life in Indonesia as a third-world country. In his latest development, Eldwin focuses on interactive art to re-explore the relationship between the artwork and its audience. This theme asks to what extent influences, other than the artist, can affect the end result of the artwork itself. Along with these series, triggered by the need to use various sensors in his work, Eldwin is also interested in examining the extent to which a machine, computer, or artificial intelligence can have human-like "senses".

2024 GUSTI KADE

GUSTI KADE was born on May 22, 2000, in Jembrana, Bali. In 2018, he decided to continue his education at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar, majoring in Fine Arts. Currently, he is actively working with embroidery techniques, an interest he developed during his final exam when he researched fabrics commonly used in Bali. Influenced by his parents' profession as tailors, he has a deep familiarity with fabric materials.

After completing his undergraduate education at ISI Denpasar in early 2022, he became aware of the importance of creating works to fulfill spiritual needs and the purpose of his studies. His current work stems from observations of the surrounding environment, including community habits, the environment, culture, and traditions in his birthplace.

Jembrana serves as a source of spiritual fulfillment, integrating discussions on how civilization manifests in daily life. He characterizes the application of complementary colors in Jembrana embroidery and positions Jembrana embroidery as a valuable material in ceremonial processions.

27 HENDRA HEHE

HENDRA ‘HEHE’ HARSONO is an Indonesian artist based in Yogyakarta. He is a part of the early 2000s generation artists of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, born mostly in the early 1980s. This group of artists was brought up being exposed to diverse subcultures, growing up within the paradoxes of Western multiculturalism and changing values in their own countries such as MTV invasion, cable TV, internet, and neoliberalism. Thus, the traces of influences of Pop Culture, the Indie Movement, graphic novels, lowbrow art, pop surrealism, street style fashion, and more can be evident in HeHe’s works.

HeHe has always been interested in working with paintings, drawings, resin toys, and premises-based on his experiences in everyday life and contemporary culture issues. He maintains his signature childlike, surreal characters. His works contain some personification, in which he portrays inanimate objects in a way that seems alive such as giving them their characters and personalities. They convey the concept that the land of the imaginary could not be said as entirely unreal or completely fantastical. It is apparent within us. His artworks embrace friendliness and fun, a kind of acceptance and openness of new possibilities and potentials. While, at the same time, he is still fully aware of its ironies and distance. Moving on with his existence in the real world, he believes that exploring life’s absurdities and abnormalities can enhance his life experience, creating it more colorful.

2024 I GEDE SUKARYA

I GEDE SUKARYA (1995.b) was born in the old village of Bulian - Buleleng. His simple life made him care about art portraits, his interest in painting was shown since he was in elementary school by participating in competitions. His interest in painting was shown since elementary school by participating in competitions that took him to the provincial level. In order to develop his art, he migrated to Gianyar - Denpasar while getting a vocational high school education and entered college to study Fine Arts at the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) Denpasar with a scholarship.

During his studies he actively explored the medium. His works are inspired by daily life, customs and culture. In his exploratory studies, he discovered a Balinese cultural heritage called Tatah Art, an ancient art that can be found in the clothing of barong, rangda and wayang. From his exploratory findings, I.G Sukarya chose to use cowhide, as a medium that is linked to the regeneration of the image development of inlay art, which was originally intended for wearable/order art into fine art. Inheriting the inlay technique always depicts a hedonistic form full of Balinese ornaments. In I.G Sukarya's eyes, this becomes a simpler form that is close to today's reality. So that every detail of his work provides room for imagination for the viewer to pay more attention to how his work can form imaginary illusions and experiences of the viewer.

IPIKI SUYERSA
2024

IPIKI SUYERSA (28), an alumnus of FSR ISI Yogyakarta (Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta), raises profound questions about the use of resin as a symbol of "change" and "practicality" in the era of modernity. Synthetic polymer resins, which now dominate the world of art and industry thanks to their ease of processing, present an ethical dilemma along with their negative impact on the environment. Parallel to the non-biodegradable nature of plastics, resins bring long-term consequences to the ecosystem. The choice of a striking candy tone color palette reinforces the visual narrative, threatening traditional patterns in a striking way. In the process of melting, the resin melt forms hundreds of melt tantacles that create a kinetic effect, conveying a hidden message about change and its impact on cultural identity. Visually, these characteristics refer to a narrative that seems to "speak" about the negative impacts produced by technological acceleration. The importance of reflecting on the impact of resin materials on the environment and culture is at the center of the conversation. This dynamic and vibrant visual creation attempts to set the stage for a critical dialogue on environmental awareness and traditional values amidst the ever-changing currents of modernity.

Basically, Balinese childhood tends to be familiar with activities related to art and culture, ranging from those related to religious rituals, traditional games, making crafts, etc. On the other hand, in the world of education, starting from kindergarten to junior high school, art subjects such as drawing have been introduced. I myself felt interested in drawing activities starting at the age of 14/15 years. So a few years later I decided to get an art education at the SMK level or what was then known as SMSR and continued to the ISI Yogyakarta college.

During my studies, I was very interested in exploring art mediums and adjusting techniques to open up other possibilities that were not yet known, and perhaps could be utilized well artistically. In practice, there is a tendency that often occurs, consciously or unconsciously, to combine things that feel different into a harmonious whole. As in the paintings, I present abstract elements/shapes combined with plastic forms of human body parts. And the 3D works that I have done are an effort to change the image of the basic painting material whose surface is flat into a 3 dimensional form; by combining 2 flat patterns with different shapes into one unit. For me, the works that have been done are like seeing myself in various situations such as dilemmas, efforts to fight, helplessness, peaceful hopes for a feud / conflict, freedom, to the shadows of solutions to improve. If you look back when you decided to pursue art, especially Painting, it might be influenced by the feeling of comfort to freely express various things that are sometimes difficult to express vulgarly.

WAYAN YUSA DIRGANTARA

WAYAN YUSA DIRGANTARA was born and raised in Bali then studied at ISI Yogyakarta and graduated in 2021. The panorama of the beach with white sand and beautiful limestone cliffs became the initial attraction of Yusa's works, coastal activities and childhood memories play an important role in the process of creation. Environmental issues are also addressed by Yusa in her works.

As a migrant living in Yogyakarta, Yusa releases her longing for the coast, recalling simple fragments that pop into her head and rearranging them onto the canvas. Memories are certainly not perfect, there are sides that are blurred when recalled, therefore abstraction becomes the most appropriate language to express that feeling. The emergence of fragments in the form of colors, textures and textures represent the longing for the beach panorama. In her work, Yusa will continue to reflect on nature.

Yusa actively exhibits in Bali, Yogyakarta, Jakarta and South Korea. Her first solo exhibition titled My Space was held in 2020. Her next solo exhibition was held at Artotel Thamrin, Jakarta and at Space 1326 Gallery, Seoul, South Korea in 2022. Followed by a solo presentation at TIAF (Tamra International Art Fair), Jeju, South Korea. Yusa was also a finalist of the UOB Painting of the Year in 2021.
