Hard to believe, in a few weeks – summer. We have had an incredible time here at our amazing club. We have a beautiful facility with venues that cater to our diverse membership. Our staff continues to strive towards exceptional service working tirelessly to ensure our wants and needs are met. Let’s not forget staff that sets up, breaks down and resets for the next event, our receptionists always helpful and patient with reservations challenges and changes. Chef Steve and his team continue to serve delicious menu items along with specials such as, Tacos and Tequila, Sushi and Saki, Burger Night, Commodores’ Steak House, wine tastings and our many club events. Our Catering Director, Sarah, orchestrated nearly 600 reservations for Easter that was truly a family affair along with a petting zoo, pony rides and our annual Easter egg hunt. Our manager, Jay Butler, continues to steer our ship with a positive and enlightening spirit. His calm demeanor and practical ways have been key to moving our club in a positive direction.
Membership – We welcomed 51 new members to CRYC the first 3 months of this year. This is an exciting accomplishment. Membership Director, Tami, along with our membership committee deserve special thanks.
One of our members offered what I think is a perfect way to think of the values needed in any successful club and how we view and treat each other:
• Exceptional service to each other
• Tradition and elegance
• Fun and friendships
Membership is a privilege. Let’s show each other – members and just as important, our staff, the same respect and kindness we would like to have shown to us.
When you see our CRYC “new member” burgee on a table or the bar, please remember to introduce yourself, invite them to dinner, to an event or to join one or several of the many wonderful clubs within our club. We were all new members once.
Warmest regards,
Paul Sheerin Commodore

The Party with a Purpose was a huge success this year and exceeded our expectations in every way. The Cocktail Hour, hors d oeuvres, dinner and service were outstanding thanks to our wonderful CRYC Staff and Chef Steve. For the first time we had a trio, and everyone enjoyed the music and dancing thanks to the efforts of Kate and Brent Nelson. Our event committee consisting of Roz Alford, Starr Fisher, Gil Beiger, Meredith Campbell and I worked with Donna Wagoner and the CRYC Staff to put all the pieces together.
Purpose is the key word in our “Party with a PURPOSE”. The Purpose of the event and our other fund raising activities allows us to continue our good work for the Community and the Club. I was not only delighted that we exceeded our goal of 150 guests at the event but even more impressed with the donations that we received, participation in our silent auction, additions and upgrades to our Team Foundation Plaque.
I am sure many of you are already on the Plaque and we thank you very much. I would like to thank those who have joined the ranks or have upgraded. Those joining in the $1000.00 to $4,999.00
Cruisers Category are: Mark Conway, John and Barbara Gehrig, James Kimmel and Suzanne Guest, Rick and Alyssa Schultz, David Sidwell, Alexandrea Peterson and Katelynn Northcutt. Those who have upgraded to the $5,000 -$12,499, Fleet Captain Category are: William and Angela Kruger, Johnny and Sandi Mann and Brent and Kate Nelson. Thanks to all on the Plaque and our new additions. If you have not done so, please consider joining TEAM FOUNDATION.
I would also like to acknowledge our Party with a Purpose Sponsors in the following categories:
$1000-$3000 Donations: Chip and Neela Chipalkatty, Jim Kimel and Suzanne Guest, Rick and Alyssa Schultz, Barbara and John Gehrig, Maynard and Andrea Hellman, Chip Starkey and Ray Zglobicki, Mark Conway, Alexis Promuto, Carolyn Greenlaw, Richard and Gloria Scheff, Karen and Roger Comstock and William and Angela Kruger.
$3000. - $5,000 Donations: Theiry Gablin and Chris Deceasar, Robert Epstein, Starr Fisher, Roz Alford and Paul Erickson, Richard Caparso and Johnny Mann, the John J. Mann Foundation
$7,500 - $10,000 Donations: Gil and Terry Beiger
$10,000. Plus, Donation: Larry and Barbara Bohannon, Lindsay’s House Foundation, I am also pleased that our Epicurean Dinner, recently expanded to 30 guests rather than the previous 20, was also sold out at the event. We will be in touch with those of you who have signed up to get a mutually convenient date in November. We were pleased to have several of our sailors at the event and had the opportunity to introduce them to you. We also briefly discussed some of our past accomplishments and future plans. If any one of you would like to learn more about our mission please get in touch with me or any of our Board Members. We will be glad to meet with you at your convenience and tell you our story. As we are moving closer to summer I would like to remind you that if you have a child or grandchild that would like to be in the Summer Sailing Camp, now would be the time to make arrangements. Three two-week programs start on June 16th until August 1 and there will be a one-week program before and after. Please contact Donna Wagoner, our Activities Director, and she will be able to help you.
Thank you very much for your support and allowing us to continue our good work for the Community and our Club.

May will be an absolute burst of creativity at CRYC! Our Auxiliary will host two incredible events that have us all buzzing with joy and inspiration.
We will kick off the month with a charming tea party and a delightful teacup flower arranging class, led by our talented Member, Andrea Hellman. Andrea will guide us through creating beautiful floral arrangements in teacups, and which will be a blast. A big thank you to Andrea for sharing her expertise and making this such a special day!
Later in the day, we are thrilled to unveil the breathtaking underwater photography of Chris Gug, which will be showcased on the Auxiliary Art Wall through August 31st. Chris is known as one of the world’s leading ocean photographers, with his work displayed in some of the most prestigious museums globally. His images, captured in over 60 countries, are truly awe-inspiring, and we’re lucky to have them hanging in our Club for the summer.
But as we all know, the fun doesn’t stop here. With summer in full swing, our theme this year is “Let’s Keep Moving!” We’ve lined up a variety of events to keep everyone active and engaged.
In June, Club Member Joan Gremse will lead us through an energizing line dancing session—get ready to move to the rhythm! In July, we’ll be unwinding with chair yoga, and August will bring activities designed to stimulate the mind and keep us sharp.
Of course, our chef-selected buffets for the summer lunches are an added treat. These delicious meals will offer a refreshing change of pace, and chef can’t wait to share them with all of you!
We hope to see you at the upcoming events—let’s make this summer one to remember, filled with creativity, connection, and fun!

Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

As always, Members who refer New Members receive a $1,000 credit—your support in growing our community makes all the difference.
We’re also incredibly grateful to our Membership Committee for their outstanding commitment and energy these past few months. Your time, enthusiasm, and personal outreach have been critical to our success. Without you, we wouldn’t be nearly as successful—thank you!
This summer brings more fun, relaxation, and connection. While the Clubhouse will close from July 14 to August 13 for its annual refresh, The Pointe will remain open Wednesday through Sunday. The pool, fitness center, basketball court, pickleball courts, and marina are also available. Your summer experiences at CRYC are just getting started!

It is so great to be a Cruiser. We get to meet new friends and also go and enjoy weekend trips like the one in Biscayne Bay hosted by Frederic and Lynn Lepoutre. Cruisers members enjoyed anchoring out and exploring Bill Baggs State Park in Key Biscayne.
Our upcoming trips are Stiltsville and Nixon Beach in May, Ocean Reef Club in June and Bimini Bahamas in July.
If you are interested in joining us on these trips please reach out via email or call the respective hosts.
We also have other trips coming up like Rybovich Marina in August and Palm Harbor in September, plus more!
You don’t need to own a boat to join us, several of the trips have hotels in the premises or nearby and we encourage you to join us. This is a great way to go for a weekend vacation in our own sunny South Florida! We are available to talk and explain what Cruisers is all about. Just call us at 954-465-9873 with any questions about our group. Also, please remember that our Cruisers diners are the second Thursday of every month. You can make your reservations via the CRYC app or by calling the club.

Our final book for the 2024-25 season is West With Giraffes, by Lynda Rutledge. We will discuss it on Friday, May 9th in the Commodore’s Lounge.
“Few friends have I known, and two were giraffes.” Thus spoke Woodrow Wilson Nickel, our now elderly narrator, as he recounted his road trip adventure years earlier, transporting two giraffes that had already survived a hurricane crossing the Atlantic, now heading west for delivery to the San Diego Zoo.
This work of historical fiction takes place in 1938, when our country was reeling from the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and the threat Hitler posed to Europe. The account of this twelveday adventure, which Woodrow had to tell before it was too late, weaves true facts with a rich assortment of positive themes: hope, resilience, love, concern for animal rights, self-discovery , and the passage of time.
In June, we kick off the summer season with Book Cub Lite, our informal gathering for lunch and conversation about books we like. On June 13th and July 11th, we will meet in the Burgee Bar, with our own server, and order off the Point menu. Our August date is to be determined. Watch your email for further updates.
Please make reservations at the front desk, and, at that time, make your lunch selection from the options available. Lunch is served promptly at noon when the discussion begins.

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.
Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.
Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.
1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.
3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.
Your Responsibilities When Visiting Another FCYC Club:
• Reservations should be made with the hosting club. Even if the decision to visit another FCYC club is spur-ofthe-moment, a call to the hosting club is appropriate.
• Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club. Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club.
• Inquire about dress code when making a reservation.
• Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit.
• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.
• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.
• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.
• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.
Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:
• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:
• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.
• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.
• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.
• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.
• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.
• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.
• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.
A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
Did you know your membership allows you to visit other yacht clubs around the country? If you are traveling, consider stopping by a reciprocal club!
CRYC is part of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, which means you have multiple club privileges with first class experiences!
