FOOD & BEVERAGE

One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.

We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30 - 40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.

We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.

SERVICE CHARGE REMINDER

The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!

Commodore’s Corner

Dear Members and Friends of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club

Here we are already heading into the Fall. The Clubhouse has reopened and is looking better than ever. The Burgee Bar has been repainted and the Florida Council of Yacht Club Burgees have been repositioned. The next pieces for the Auxiliary Art Wall in the Burgee Bar will be installed this first week of September followed by a formal showing on September 12.

The Pointe – Our Members were delighted with the decision to keep it open when the Clubhouse closed. It continues to be the place to gather with friends and enjoy our friendships along with delicious food.

Events - The rest of this year and into next is full with exciting events for everyone to enjoy, thanks to Kate Nelson and her Socialites. Check the calendar in this Log issue and your emails for updates concerning these events and other club related matters. A lot of hard work goes into planning these events and activities and your participation is critical and much appreciated. If you have questions or difficulty making reservations do not hesitate to call the reception desk.

Pool and Seawall – The Pool and Seawall Committee are working with the engineers that the Club has engaged. It will take three to four months to reach the point where we can put the RFP (Request for Proposal) out to bid. Once we get pricing for the different design possibilities for the pool, we will present the options to the Membership for approval. The seawall will be repaired in stages, starting with the face dock along the intracoastal. It will be repaired according to code and be overseen by our engineer, enabling us to protect our property for many years to come.

Questions and Rumors – If at any time any one of you, our Members, has a question or hears “something,” please do not hesitate to contact me, Vice Commodore Cassell or Past Commodore Fred Roche. Rumors tend to have a life of their own when most always, they are just that – rumors.

As always, Membership is a privilege. Let us show each other – Members and just as important, our staff—the same respect and kindness we would like to have shown to us.

When you see our CRYC “New Member” burgee on a table or the bar, please remember to introduce yourself, invite them to dinner, to an event or to join one or several of the many wonderful Clubs within our Club. We were all new Members once.

Warmest regards,

Commodore

Labor Day Party

CRYC Sailing & Water Sport s Foundation

As I write this article, I can report that the summer sailing program is a great success. Our partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale has proven to be an asset to Coral Ridge Yacht Club and our Community. This year’s sold-out program has offered an opportunity to many kids who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in this wonderful sailing experience, as well as those who continue to improve their skills. As some of our sailors continue to get more skills, we continue to expand our fleet to meet those needs. We are currently in the process of purchasing a Laser Sailboat which is well suited for those kids with more advanced skills. It will also be available, as will the rest of our assets, to use at no cost. We have also purchased an additional paddleboard. We have a wide variety of equipment that we hope you will enjoy.

Foundation Day, which is set for October 18th, will be an excellent opportunity for you to come out and enjoy the Paddleboards, Sailboats, Kayaks, etc. as well as the live music and a fun day centered around The Pointe and Sunrise Bay.

The Epicurean Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, November 20th in the Commodores Lounge. As I mentioned in my last article, we have expanded the attendance cap for this event from 30 to 40 guests. This is truly an outstanding event featuring white glove service, complimentary cocktails and wine, and Chef Steve will be creating a masterpiece dinner experience. We have only a few spots open for the event and would encourage you to enjoy this great evening and support the Foundation.

The Foundation Board is in the process of planning our winter sailing events. At this point we expect to be running Tuesday after school sailing in partnership with St. Marks School.

Last years Sunday/Funday Sailing Program was run by Meredith Campbell and was a huge success. Unfortunately, Meredith and Alex Campbell have resigned from the Club for personal reasons, and we would like to ask if any of the parents would like to take an active role in this program. The Foundation will support it and provide the necessary staff. The success of this program depends on Family participation. Please contact me or any of the Foundation Board Members If you would like to participate. I would like to thank Meredith for her service on the Foundation Board and both Alex and Meredith for their hard work making Sunday/Funday a success, as well as their support for the Foundation.

We look forward to welcoming all the snowbirds back to enjoy our beautiful Ft. Lauderdale weather.

As always, thank you very much for supporting your Foundation.

Fourth of July Party

Summer Fun with the Auxiliary: Movement, Mindfulness & Mental Games

If you haven’t been around the Club this summer, you’ve missed a lively season filled with fun, laughter, and meaningful connection. Here’s a look back at the highlights from the Auxiliary’s summer calendar.

We embraced movement in all its forms—physical, mental, and social.

June kicked off with a high-energy line dancing session led by Joan Gremse, where members laughed and stepped their way through the spirited “Auxiliary Shuffle.”

In July, we shifted to a more relaxed pace with Chair Yoga—a wonderful blend of gentle movement, deep breathing, and shared laughter. It was the perfect way to loosen up both body and mind without ever leaving our seats.

August kept the momentum going with a spirited Trivia Challenge and an effortlessly elegant Trunk Show & Martini Social.

At Trivia, teams tested their knowledge on everything from pop culture to local history, sparking laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of “aha!” moments. A big thank you to Jodi, our fabulous emcee, and to everyone who joined in and made it such a memorable afternoon.

Later in the month, we hosted a stylish evening that combined fashion, fun, and fine martinis. We were delighted to welcome Kemble Interiors of Palm Beach, a brand known for its timeless charm and its connection to renowned New York designer Celerie Kemble.

And we’re just getting started!

Fall promises even more to look forward to:

September: This meeting is designed to surprise and delight! While the details of our presentation remain under wraps for just a bit longer, rest assured—it will be one you won’t want to miss.

October: Two exciting evening events. First, enjoy a lively and entertaining presentation all about Cher. Then, join us for a creative night of wine-sipping and pot painting.

November: The return of our signature Fashion Show — this year with a fabulous James Bond theme you won’t want to miss.

Mark your calendars, and make your reservations early—this season is shaping up to be unforgettable!

Not yet a Member of the Auxiliary? We’d love to welcome you!

From General Manager

Dear Yacht Club Members,

Welcome back! As we turn the page into a new season here at Coral Ridge Yacht Club, I am filled with excitement and gratitude. After a lively summer, I look forward to reconnecting with all of you and sharing in the energy that comes with our full calendar of events.

Our recent Clubhouse pause for maintenance gave us the opportunity to complete a light refresh in both the Burgee Bar and the Atrium. These updates have brightened our spaces and set the stage for the many memories we will create together this season.

Looking ahead, we are taking meaningful steps to enhance the Member experience across all areas of the Club. As a direct next step from our Focus Group, our Food & Beverage and Front of House teams will be participating in training with an outside professional firm. This initiative will elevate service standards and further enrich every interaction you enjoy here at the Club.

Another exciting development is the rollout of a full Kids and Family Events program that will extend through 2026. To keep things fresh and engaging, the schedule will be released every six weeks. These gatherings are designed to bring families together and ensure our youngest Members feel just as much a part of the CRYC community as everyone else.

On a personal note, I am especially looking forward to hallmark celebrations like Winterfest, the Palm Royale Party, and our signature White Party. These special moments capture the spirit of the Club and highlight what makes this community so unique.

As I complete my first year as your General Manager, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for being so welcoming and hospitable. It has been a privilege to serve you, and I look forward to continuing to build on the traditions and experiences that make Coral Ridge Yacht Club a home for all.

With appreciation and anticipation for the season ahead.

CRYC KIDS’ CLUB MASCOT

Whenever you see Sebastian the Seahorse on our adult - based party invitations, it means that the Kids’ Club will be available on that night. So, you can plan your evening knowing that your children will be in safe hands and having a blast.

FOLLOW THE DRESS CODE

Please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

Cruisers Dinners

CRYC Cruisers

Giuliana Pelletier President

Dear Cruisers,

We had a great year with friendship and boating with the Cruisers. With over 200 active Cruisers members we have so much fun! Our monthly trips have been well attended and many old and new Cruisers are now great friends and enjoy spending time in and outside our beautiful club. These past two months have been very active between going on our monthly meetings and our July trip to the Bahamas where many had the chance to go snorkeling and diving the Bahamas waters on a chartered diving boat, enjoying the Bahamas life by going to the restaurant dinners organized by the trip chair Glen Tupler, our docktail on the docks on the Mega Yacht Marina in Bimini with our own signer and Cruiser Royce Smith who had us dancing and signing. Our ‘bring a dish to share’ contest brought delicious appetizers and entrees. We were lucky and had great weather the whole weekend which allowed us to enjoy the island and surroundings at its max.

The Cruisers also got the chance to go at the end of July to the NSU Oceanographic Center where a research presenter explained the challenges the sea turtles have in our waters and Florida beaches. We also got to see the turtle release of the baby sea turtles at night. It was a night of knowledge and friendship and we will be scheduling another sea turtle release in 2026. With the money collected from donations from our Cruisers attendees we made a donation of $250 to the Sea Turtles at NSU.

Busy Cruisers had the August dinner meeting and the week after we embarked to West Palm beach to the Rybovich Safe Harbor marina in which our classic Friday docktails were offered at the beautiful Glenn and Alana Markus Sunseeker. The next day’s activities varied by the members and ended at the West Palm Beach Yacht Club gourmet dinner organized by the trip chairs Jeff and Nancy Schoenwetter. For the ones that haven’t been at this marina, I would highly recommend it. We are now in September and we are looking forward to our monthly dinner where we will talk about our upcoming trips including the September 19th to the 21st at the Palm Harbor Marina located in downtown West Palm Beach. The hosts for this trip are Bob Gass and Dar Johnson who have been chairing this trip for many years and it is very well attended. We will talk in more detail about upcoming trips at the meetings which are every second Thursday of the month.

See you soon!

The Social Committee

Dear Members,

This is the best time for us to take a moment to thank people who have worked so hard to make our club a better place. Many of the people in the Socialites who have brought in interesting speakers and vendors we enjoy so much such as Angela Kruger who is President of Auxiliary and on the Socialite committee. Some are outside the committee but nonetheless bring their spirit to share.

Alexis Promuto is one of these people who has commandeered our Bingo games for years.

Once a month Alexis has brought our club together for a night of active listening until the sound of BINGO rings out and a winner is verified. Thank you Alexis from all of us for your loving spirit and your time.

Meredith Campbell is in a word a powerhouse. She started by taking up the cause of the DayTrippers. She plans wonderful day trips around the area for everyone with a smaller boat. Just in the past year, she went on to become the Officer of the Day and together we resculpted the Fleet Review. We changed it to a Saturday so more families can participate and the change of command was updated with Royce Nelson singing the patriotic songs.  The dinner that followed was of a higher status and the music that followed was fantastic. She went on to join the Board of the Sailing and Watersports Foundation to spearhead their sailing program as well. A beacon of light is Meredith.

Lori Frankie is another shining example of a person who has brought in speakers and vendors as part of Girls Night Out or Auxiliary. She is not only prolific at our club but also a myriad of other organizations with whom she has brightly shined. Thank you Lori Franky for your thoughtful  inspiration within the Socialites.

Allison Janse has contributed more ideas to the Socialites than anyone. Over and above. We will get more of her ideas in the books as we proceed this year. Thank you Allison for your consistent vision and follow through.

Larry Bohannon is one of a kind punctuated with his drawl and big smile. The number of hats he wears at the club cannot be listed. He participates in  the dance classes, pitches great ideas and follows through on the promotion of dance parties. He does it with We’ll do it cause people love it attitude! Thank you Larry Bohannon for this and all that you do.

Brandon and Jules make the best karaoke duo around. Their fun antics are a blast. Their vision to take this club wide will be a part of our fall schedule. To start with they will be in the Burgee Bar on September 4th at 7pm! Thank you Brandon and Jules!

Patty Sheerin, our beautiful brilliant first lady of the club and Socialite extraordinaire. You all know her as she glides from table to table with a hug and a smile. Behind the scenes she is always working to assure that the table assignments will produce a great night of fun especially for the new members who don’t know anyone. Its a gift. She knows all the ins and the outs of the club and for that, all of us cannot say Thank You enough. I cannot say thank you enough.

Then there is the team from the club Jay Butler( General Manager) , Wisly Verdine (Club House Manager),  Sarah Kazakevicius (Catering), Steve Zobel (Executive Chef). These top managers attend our Socialite meetings that sculpt these events and their outcomes. It is their collective wisdom that orchestrates all of the social activities that go on everyday that we are open. To our management team and their respective teams, thank  you!

CLUBS WITHIN THE CLUB Book Club

Welcome back all CRYC readers who have been away! We are transitioning back from our successful summer “Lite” meetings to our more formal monthly programs. We open the 2025-26 season with our September selection, Kristin Hannah’s widely acclaimed The Women, her fictionalized account of women who served in the Viet Nam War, shedding light on their often-overlooked contributions. Inspired by the military history within her own family, Frankie McGrath, a young twenty-year-old from an affluent family, enlists in the army as a nurse, to the dismay of her parents. Her experiences in Saigon bring her face to face with the realities of war, as mass casualties arrive. When her tour of duty is over and she returns home, she is shocked by all the anti-war protests and by her parents’ refusal to acknowledge her war experience. If Viet Nam was challenging, adjustment to civilian life back home presents ever greater hurdles. Hannah does not sugarcoat the atrocities of war, nor does she sugarcoat the post-war period that follows.

Consider that about ten thousand American military women were stationed in Viet Nam during the war. Recognition of their work is long overdue. The Women shines a light on all these women, their sacrifices, and their commitment. Sue McNamara will facilitate our discussion on Sept. 12th.

We switch gears in October with a review of The Art Thief by Michael Finkel. In this most remarkable true-crime narrative, we enter the world of Stephane Breitweiser, who carried out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years, until his plan failed. He was not motivated by money. Was it his hunger to possess beautiful objects or his addictive need to score? Join us as we discuss this riveting story of art, crime, and love. Courtney Groome will facilitate our discussion on Oct.10th.

We meet the 2nd Friday of the month at 11:30 am in the Commodore’s Lounge. Please make your reservation at the front desk and place your lunch selection from the variety of sandwiches, salads and other menu choices that are available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

Friday Colors at CRYC

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.

Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.

Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.

1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.

2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.

4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.

Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.

Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

RECIPROCITY RESPONSIBILITIES & PRIVILEGES OF FCYC CLUB MEMBERS

Your Responsibilities When Visiting Another FCYC Club:

• Reservations should be made with the hosting club. Even if the decision to visit another FCYC club is spur-ofthe-moment, a call to the hosting club is appropriate.

• Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club. Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club.

• Inquire about dress code when making a reservation.

• Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit.

• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.

• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.

• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.

• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.

Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:

• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:

• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.

• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.

• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.

• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.

• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.

• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.

• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.

A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
