FOOD & BEVERAGE

One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.

We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30 - 40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.

We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.

SERVICE CHARGE REMINDER

The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!

Commodore’s Corner

Dear Members and Friends of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club

What an incredible way to start 2025! Our Fleet Review was nothing short of spectacular—an event that captures the heart of our club, blending tradition, camaraderie, and the excitement of new beginnings. It’s a day when we honor the dedication of our outgoing Commodore and celebrate the fresh energy of new leadership, all while surrounded by the beauty of our fleet and the friendships that make CRYC so special.

A Tradition Like No Other

• Under the expert guidance of Officer of the Day Meredith Campbell, we proudly reviewed over 30 vessels—a true showcase of our Club’s spirit and seafaring pride.

• We cheered on our young sailors, the future of CRYC, as they took to the water with skill and enthusiasm.

• Captain Elaine Sacco, leading Bliss in her 25th Fleet Review, called it “the best ever”—a high compliment from one of our most seasoned sailors!

• We were honored to have the Fort Lauderdale Chief of Police and Fire Chief, along with the Vice Commodore of the Lauderdale Yacht Club, join us for this special occasion.

• An Evening of Celebration & Friendship

• Our first-ever “Outgoing/Incoming Commodores Ball” was an unforgettable night filled with laughter, great food, and fantastic entertainment.

• Patty and I, along with Marybeth and Fred, were overwhelmed by the warmth and support of everyone who attended.

• A heartfelt thank you to our exceptional staff, whose dedication and service make every moment at CRYC feel like home.

• The Pointe: Our New Favorite Gathering Place

• It’s official—The Pointe is the place to be! After much anticipation, the Grand Opening did not disappoint, with an electrifying performance by the Fushu Daiko Drummers setting the tone for a vibrant and exciting future.

• We love seeing tables full for lunch and dinner and our members coming together for unforgettable events like Fleet Review and Super Bowl.

• Looking Ahead to a Bright Future

• A special thank you to Past Commodores Fred Roche and Maynard Hellman, as well as Vice Commodore Kevin Cassell, for their guidance and leadership in shaping the future of CRYC.

• Patty and I are excited for the adventures, friendships, and new traditions that 2025 will bring, and we’re committed to making it a year to remember for every member.

Here’s to another year of sailing, celebrating, and growing together!

Warmest regards,

Paul Sheerin Commodore

CRYC Sailing & Water Sport s Foundation

The CRYC Sailing and Water Sports Foundation hosted Foundation Day on February 1 at The Pointe, Sunrise Bay, and the Sailing Center. The event was a tremendous success, featuring Scuba for Good Diving, Foundation Water Toys, and Sailing and Instruction. The highlight of the day was the Regatta, where children from CRYC and St. Marks showcased their sailing skills. Attendees shared overwhelmingly positive feedback, expressing their joy in watching the kids sail on Sunrise Bay. The day concluded with a lively gathering at The Pointe, where Members enjoyed lunch, live music, and festivities. As always, children ate free.

Our focus now shifts to the Summer Sailing Program. Next week, we will meet with the City of Fort Lauderdale to finalize logistics. This year, we plan to host four sessions, each accommodating 12 participants. Last year, 42 children took part, with the majority receiving full scholarships, thanks to the generous support of the City and our donors.

The Sunday Funday Sailing Program remains a favorite among families. Under the leadership of Meredith Campbell and her dedicated team of volunteers and instructors, the program continues to prioritize safety, fun, and learning. Looking ahead, we are excited to host another Sailing Regatta with St. Marks on April 13—an excellent opportunity to watch young sailors in action. On April 17, we will once again hold the Star Art Regatta, where participants will showcase beautifully painted sails on the Bay. This large-scale event features VIP seating at Birch State Park, with the best views available from The Pointe.

Finally, we invite you to join us for our signature fundraising event, Party With A Purpose, on March 29. This elegant evening will feature a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, live music, and a silent auction. Invitations have been mailed, and reservations can be made by returning your RSVP or contacting a Foundation Board Member. If you are unable to attend, please consider supporting our efforts through a donation or by adding your name to the TEAM FOUNDATION Plaque at the Clubhouse entrance.

As we welcome Spring, our Auxiliary has an exciting lineup of events designed for entertainment and enrichment.

Our first outing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, featuring an excursion to the Boca Museum of Art to view the exhibition “Splendor and Passion: Baroque Spain and Its Empire.” This event includes a relaxing bus ride and private lunch at American Social. If you haven’t already signed up, we encourage you to do so soon!

To engage more of our Members and guests—especially those unable to attend our luncheon meetings—we have planned an evening cocktail party on Wednesday, March 19. Please check the website for the exact time. Join us for appetizers, drinks and an insightful session with experts on Lab-Grown Diamonds. Feel free to dress in glamorous attire for this special occasion!

Looking ahead, we are especially excited about our Signature Annual Auxiliary Event on Wednesday, November 8. This year’s event will feature a Fashion Show, Silent Auction, Raffle, and Boutique, all celebrating the iconic 007 James Bond theme—Martinis shaken, not stirred.

We invite all Members to join us for these engaging events and take the opportunity to connect with fellow members in a more informal setting. Contact Gene Monaco at 954-801-2111 or eugenedmonaco@yahoo.com.

Everyone is welcome to join!

FOLLOW THE DRESS CODE

Please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

Looking ahead, we plan to bring in additional speakers at our dinners to discuss a variety of cruiser-related topics. Our next dinner and meeting are scheduled for March 13, and we’d love for you to join us!

We’ve planned some fantastic trips this year, and we’d love for you to be part of them. Grand Opening of The Pointe

The Social Committee

Your Socialites have been working in a highly productive manner on your behalf. We are proud to announce our new Co-Chair Allison Muney. She will be the liaison to the younger Factions of the club. She is also serving as a first year Governor so let’s keep her busy and most importantly In the loop.

Coming soon is a complete Important Dates listing to your email. If you cannot use email you will be able to request a copy. This is for the schedule for the remainder of 2025. By March we will have a skeleton calendar with important dates and some larger parties for the first half of 2026. Please print this calendar and make sure you make reservations for these marvelous parties and events. The Socialites are working hard to bring you a better member experience.

Fleet Review was an absolute success this year! Over 30 boats of various sizes, kids on Opti sail boats, at attention, with hands on hearts as they went by the flags. Our boat parade gleamed for the first time on a picture perfect Saturday afternoon. Truly impressive!! The processional featuring our former Commodores along with all of the rich traditions surrounding our new Commodore Paul Sheerin and his wife Patty, made for an incredibly memorable event. Royce Nelson’s impressive performance of the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful” set a powerful tone, accompanied by thunderous applause. The food, the band Street Talk, and the overall feeling was largely due to the tireless efforts of our own Meredith Campell who was Fleet Officer of the Day. According to Captain Elaine Sacco in a letter sent to the Commodores, this was” by far her favorite Fleet Review in 25 years!” Once again this event signals the start of a new chapter at Coral Ridge Yacht Club!

The Outgoing/Incoming Commodores Ball has also experienced a breath of fresh air. Combining this, the Outgoing Ball and the Incoming Ball permits us to have more diversified parties that are less formal. This year with our new General Manager Jay Butler in the mix, our dinner was plated, our Board representatives were on full display, and the party goers danced the night away. The Grand Opening of the POINTE elicited the feeling of old Hollywood with Klieg lights rotating both at the entrance of the club and on either side of the front of the POINTE itself. The Fushu Daiko Drummers made a dramatic entrance to the staging area culminating in an outrageous performance that dazzled the crowd. Mayor Dean Trantalis and CRYC Brass made grand speeches commemorating the completion of this phase of renovations. Our members were treated to a champagne wall and hor d’oeuvres and all were serenaded by Violet Jefferies as she sang for the night. Another outstanding event!!

Next up….Arrrg! Pirates. March 8th is the date that will be a fully fun day! The Blue Foot Adventure boat will be stationed in Sunrise Bay and SHHHH the daytrippers are preparing a sneak attack! A treasure hunt and a myriad of performers will entertain in the afternoon. For the more seasoned pirates, an evening program with tarot reader, palm reader and psychic with the band that night none other than the Buccaneers! Ay ay a pirates life to be!

Super Bowl Party

OUR SALUTE TO THE MILITARY

In the early 2000s, CRYC began hosting an evening of great food and music for the active military visiting Fort Lauderdale each year for Fleet Week. They are stationed on destroyers, combat ships and submarines, actively deployed to foreign seas thousands of miles from the USA. Some years we’ve had as many as 8 ships in Port Everglades. This celebration is in their honor, and they tell us it is the best welcome they receive from any port in the USA!

Please consider supporting our event on Wednesday, April 23rd.

“Everyone we talked to had so much respect for what we do. They understood the freedom they enjoy comes at a great expense.”

“You proved that your gratitude for our service was genuine; you shared your best with us!”

“You all are a great group of Americans, and we are honored to carry on!”

“This is the highlight of all the ports we sail into around the country.”

“Away from my family and friends, coming to the CRYC made me feel closer to home.

A heartfelt THANK YOU!”

CLUBS WITHIN THE CLUB Book Club

Who would have expected a woman, at the time of the Civil War, to be the driving force behind the construction and completion of the Brooklyn Bridge? Emily Roebling’s story is the subject of our upcoming book discussion group on Friday, March 14, 2025. Abby Laughlin will be our facilitator as we review the Engineer’s Wife, by Tracey Enerson Wood.

This historical fiction is based on the true story of the Brooklyn Bridge. Ms. Wood paints the portrait of an amazing woman competently balancing many roles, from her interest in the suffragette cause, to her management of a project of unfathomable scale that takes her into the bowels of the East River, to the halls of Manhattan’s elite. One can imagine her emotional roller coaster, balancing the desire she and her husband shared to see this bridge finished, all the while assessing their marital relationship.

Please make reservations at the front desk and, at that time, make your lunch order selection from the variety of sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, or chicken salad) on white, wheat or rye bread. A Cobb salad or other menu choices are also available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

CORAL RIDGE YACHT CLUB HONORS

Two Exceptional Women for Their Achievements

The Coral Ridge Yacht Club proudly recognizes DeAnna Greenlaw, who has been promoted to Captain with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, marking a significant milestone in her distinguished Law Enforcement career. Also honored is Lori Franke, who has been named Woman of the Year by Beaux Arts Fort Lauderdale, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the arts and community. Their dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence serve as an inspiration to all.

Captain: DeAnna Greenlaw

DeAnna Greenlaw has been a member of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since 2005. DeAnna served the department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Sergeant and as the Station Report / Light Duty Sergeant, in the Staff Support Bureau as the Training Unit Sergeant, and in the Office of the Chief as the Media Relations Unit Sergeant.  DeAnna served the department in the Operations Bureau as a Patrol Lieutenant and in the Investigative Bureau as the Forensics Lieutenant. She most recently served in the Operations Bureau as the Special Events and Emergency Management Lieutenant.

DeAnna has served on the department’s Awards Committee since 2009 and was the committee’s chairperson from 2014 to 2024. DeAnna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State University, a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Florida State University, and a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management from Florida State University.  She is the recipient of 31 Public Commendations, 32 Departmental Commendations, and a Chief’s Citation.  Additionally, DeAnna is a recipient of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award and was an IACP 40 Under 40 Nominee. Prior to joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, DeAnna was a Police Officer for the Wilton Manors Police Department for four years.

Lori Franke

Philanthropy has been a lifelong passion for Lori, who inspires others with her favorite quote: “If you want something done, always ask a busy person.” As a devoted mother to three sons, Reece, Carson, and Crosby, and wife to Kirk, Lori exemplifies how a busy life can still accommodate a commitment to giving back.

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Lori learned the importance of community service from her parents. During her time at the University of Tennessee as a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, she gained valuable experience working with Big Brothers Big Sisters and The Ronald McDonald House. Upon moving to Fort Lauderdale 24 years ago, she played a key role in opening and funding a Ronald McDonald House, which later expanded to Miami. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Communications, with a focus on Advertising and Economics, and 33 years of experience as a Regional Account Executive at AbbVie, Lori excels in organization and work-life balance.

Lori and Kirk are passionate collectors of contemporary art, focusing on supporting living artists and gallerists globally. This passion led them to support the NSU Art Museum, under the guidance of Bonnie Clearwater. Lori was a founding member of Cobra Circle, now Curator Circle, which acquires art for the museum. Their art collection and philanthropy were recently showcased in Venice Magazine’s 10th Anniversary issue.

At Beaux Arts, Lori quickly made an impact, being elected “Best Junior” and later serving as Vice President. As President for two years, during even the challenging COVID shutdowns, she navigated support and funding efforts for the NSU Art Museum. Her “Artsy Ladies with an Edge” team ensured continued funding for the Museum on the Move program, positively impacting students in public schools.

Lori actively volunteers for Broward County Public Schools, teaching art through Meet the Masters, creating sponsorships for Title 1 schools, and forming a clothes closet and supply donation program for underprivileged students. She has served on various PTA and PTSA committees, including as President of Sunrise Middle School’s PTSA, and has supported Fort Lauderdale High School’s soccer players with nutrition and travel support.

Now, Lori serves on the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Public Art Advisory Board, nominated by City Commissioner Steve Glassman and Mayor Trantalis. Her partnership with Clare Vickery of Grace Arts through STAR-Street Art Regatta has furthered community support for local artists. As a member of Coral Ridge Yacht Club, she initiated the CRYC Fine Arts program, providing exhibition opportunities for artists in collaboration with Molly Wilson of Art Serve. Thanks to Lori’s family and friends, her contributions to the arts and community service continue to thrive through generous donations and sponsorship.

Friday Colors at CRYC

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843. Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.

Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.

1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.

2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.

4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.

Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.

Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:

• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.

• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.

• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.

• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.

• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.

• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.

• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.

A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.

RECIPROCITY
