FOOD & BEVERAGE

One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.

We kindly ask that if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30–40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.

We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.

SERVICE CHARGE REMINDER

The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!

Commodore’s Corner

Dear Members and Friends of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club

It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve as your Commodore. I want to express my appreciation for the support you have shown me, as well as my profound gratitude to Commodores Maynard Hellman, Fred Roche, and Kevin Cassell, Treasurer Barbara Gehrig, Secretary Ashley Walker, and our talented Board of Governors. Their dedication and strategic guidance continue to inspire confidence as we steer our Club toward continued success.

My heartfelt thanks go to our Manager, Jay Butler, whose leadership has brought clarity, calm, and a renewed focus on enhancing the member experience, as well as to his entire staff, whose hard work and dedication never cease to amaze me.

I will continue to work diligently in support of our Board and our entire membership, advancing facility improvements and increasing revenue through membership growth and event opportunities that will help fund these enhancements, which are vital to the future of our Club.

Please join me in welcoming Kevin Cassell as your new Commodore. I am confident that under his leadership, the Coral Ridge Yacht Club will continue to fulfill our vision of creating a vibrant gathering place that embodies everything our Club stands for.

Patty and I want to thank each of you for your good wishes and friendship. Let us move forward together, enjoying every day, every event, and most importantly, one another.

Here is to a successful and enjoyable year ahead.

Warmest regards, Paul Sheerin Commodore

From General Manager

Dear Yacht Club Members,

As we step into a new year, we take a moment to reflect on what a truly joyful and memorable December it was at the Club. The holiday season was filled with laughter, beautifully attended events, festive gatherings, and unforgettable moments shared among friends. December reminded us just how special our Club community is, and how fortunate we are to celebrate life, friendship, and tradition together.

With that wonderful spirit carrying us forward, January brings an exciting slate of events and meaningful traditions. We begin the month with one of our most spirited social gatherings, a Roaring 1920s Murder Myster on January 10, an evening of intrigue, creativity, and lighthearted fun that is sure to have everyone laughing, guessing, and enjoying time together.

Later in the month, we proudly celebrate one of the most significant traditions in our Club’s history. On January 24, we will gather for a combined Fleet Review and Change of Command, an an event that honors our maritime heritage, recognizes devoted leadership, and marks the ceremonial transition as we look ahead to another successful year. This signature occasion reflects the values that define our Club: tradition, respect, camaraderie, and shared pride in our boating community.

I would also like to take a moment to congratulate Commodore Sheerin on an exceptional year of leadership. His guidance, steady vision, and dedication to the Club have strengthened our community and helped elevate the member experience. I am personally grateful for his support and for welcoming me into this wonderful membership we are so fortunate to have here at CRYC.

At the same time, we look ahead with enthusiasm as we prepare to welcome our new Commodore, Kevin Cassell, at the end of the month. We are excited for the year ahead and the opportunities, traditions, and meaningful experiences that await our members under his leadership.

We are delighted to welcome Jeff Nichols, our new Director of Operations, and Melisa, our new Social Activities Coordinator, to the team. Jeff brings strong leadership and operational expertise, while Melisa brings enthusiasm, fresh energy, and a passion for member engagement. We are excited for the creativity, warmth, and collaboration they will both contribute to our Club community. Please join us in welcoming Jeff and Melisa to the team.

With meaningful traditions ahead, new memories waiting to be made, and a vibrant season unfolding, we look forward to an exciting and rewarding 2026 at the Club. Thank you for your continued support, your participation, and the spirit of community you bring to every event.

Here is to a wonderful year ahead, filled with connection, celebration, and unforgettable moments together.

CRYC Sailing & Water Sport s Foundation

As we begin the new year, I look back on 2025 as one of the most successful years for your Foundation. We hosted a highly successful Summer Sailing Camp in partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale. They have proven to be excellent collaborators in helping us achieve our mutual goals. In addition to providing valuable resources, they also help vet participants in our programs and award scholarships to many deserving students. Last year, we conducted four two-week programs with twelve sailors in each session, all of which were filled to capacity. We also ran two one-week programs for CRYC children, some of whom participated in both sessions. We continue to provide paddleboards, kayaks, and sailboats at no charge, and they are always available for your use with a reservation. This year, we added several new assets, including a new Laser sailboat, storage and boat trailers, as well as additional sailing and maintenance equipment.

As always, we support and collaborate with 501(c)(3) charitable organizations whose missions align with ours. We are proud to continue our support of Scuba 4 Good as one of these meaningful partner organizations.

Our fundraising efforts last year were also very successful. Our major fundraising event, Party with a Purpose, has grown from an initial gathering of 50 guests to last year’s event hosting 200 guests. It was a wonderful evening supporting a truly impactful cause, and donations remain tax deductible to the full extent of the law. This year’s Party with a Purpose is scheduled for Saturday evening, April 11, 2026.

The annual Epicurean Dinner, held each November, was originally limited to 20 guests. However, this year Chef Steve graciously assured us that he could deliver the same elegant experience for up to 40 guests. All 38 attendees enjoyed a truly spectacular evening, again in support of a great cause.

Many of you also attended Foundation Day. The event was chaired by Board Member Rich Barnhart, who described the day as follows:

“Foundation Day at the Club was an incredible success, bringing our members together for a memorable celebration on and off the water. Scuba 4 Good kicked off the morning in the pool with their adaptive divers, each one surfacing with a huge smile. Several groups of young members enjoyed their very first scuba experience, many now inspired to pursue full certification. Over at Sunrise Bay, paddleboards and sailboats filled the water, and the steady breeze made it perfect for the kids’ regatta. Meanwhile, at The Pointe, club favorite Mark Zaden kept the energy high with his guitar set. A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who participated and made the day truly special.”

We thank Rich for his leadership in making the day enjoyable for everyone.

We look forward to another outstanding year in 2026. We will begin planning the Summer Sailing Program and additional community-focused events benefiting both CRYC and the greater community. We also plan to offer Boating Safety Courses and expand our assets to support more advanced sailors and adult participants — all still provided at no charge.

All of these initiatives have been made possible through the generous support of CRYC members. We sincerely appreciate your continued commitment and assure you that we will keep working diligently to benefit both CRYC and the community.

Warm regards,

Bob

Fashion, Festivities and a Dash of James Bond: A November

to Remember at the Club

November arrived with style, sparkle, and a whole lot of wow, as it marked Fashion Show month — and this year’s event did not disappoint. In fact, it was our biggest, boldest, and most dazzling show yet, with 274 members and guests filling the Club, dressed to kill for this James Bond–themed celebration.

Before we relive the magic, a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who played a part. From the Kitchen Team to the Auxiliary Board, Models, Music Choreographer, Silent Auction Team, Boutique Team, and everyone in between — it truly took a village, and our village delivered.

This wasn’t just a fashion show. It was a full-scale 007-inspired experience — part shopping spree, part social celebration, part runway spectacular. The day was filled with fine food, laughter drifting through the rooms, glasses clinking, and some truly excellent people-watching. Guests split their time between an irresistible silent auction — featuring everything from polo outings and yacht experiences to spa days and fine dining — and a two-story shopping extravaganza. With 22 fantastic vendors, the second floor transformed into a luxe marketplace filled with unique treasures — truly a wonderland.

Lunch from Chef Steve was, as always, a gastronomic delight, setting the stage for the main event. Then came that collective gasp as the first model stepped onto the runway, shimmering in fabulous fashion and draped in diamonds and exotic jewels. Royalty would have felt right at home. Our very own Club members modeled the latest looks from J. McLaughlin and Zola Keller, sparkling under the lights with breathtaking jewels from Daoud’s. With choreography, music, and a charismatic emcee tying it all together, the show was nothing short of spectacular.

After a well-earned breather, we stepped into December and welcomed the season with our Auxiliary Holiday Luncheon — a warm, creative gathering where members rolled up their sleeves to craft beautiful wreaths. Under the expert guidance of Pam Afaras, whose own wreath looked straight out of a designer catalog, everyone left with handmade masterpieces now gracing doors across Fort Lauderdale.

And now, as we turn the page… January brings us three exciting events. During the first week, we will host a reception for the new artwork on the Auxiliary Art Wall in the Burgee Bar.

On January 14, we will welcome Emily King — Prospector, Miner, and Gemologist — for a sparkling presentation on the stories, science, and secrets behind the stunning jewels we all admire. This luncheon will also honor our Past Presidents: AnnamarieTorres, Patricia Sheerin, Michele Bennett, Arlene Weitzman, Terri Kenna Moseley, Barbara Kinnear, and Lynda Smith.

Then, on January 30, we will host an evening Mixology Class, led by our very own Amanda — Bartender Extraordinaire and Martini Specialist.

A sneak peek ahead:

FEBRUARY — Valentine’s Tea

MARCH — Mid-Century Architecture Tour and an evening Trunk Show featuring fashions from Liza Byrd

It is going to be an exciting new year for the Auxiliary.

Giuliana Pelletier President

Dear Cruisers,

And just like that, December 2025 has arrived, and a new year begins with trips and friendships we will never forget. Our boaters and non-boaters alike have enjoyed a fantastic year filled with events and adventures.

It takes a great deal of time and effort to organize each of these trips. Our dedicated volunteers plan every detail with care, making our weekends memorable and strengthening the friendships that make this group so special.

I would like to thank each member of my committee: Ramona, our Treasurer and Membership Chair; Glen, our Trip Planner, who introduced new ideas and destinations we all enjoyed; Jill, who later took over Membership; and Chip and Neela, who helped us gain access to Ocean Reef. I am also grateful to all the members who assisted with hosting and generously offered their boats for events during our trips, including Dennis and Judy, Jeff and Nancy, Frederic and Lynn, Bruce and Maribel, Jim, Cynthia, Jay, Bob and Dar, Keryn, Eric and Maxanne, Katie, Richard and Joyce, and Brent and Kate. Please thank them if you see them around!

We invite you to join us in 2026 as we continue creating special memories with friends. Many of our destinations offer hotels on-site or nearby, so you do not need to own a boat to participate. It has been a privilege to serve you as the 2025 Cruisers Chairs.

Fondly,

Giuliana

CLUBS WITHIN THE CLUB Book Club

Happy New Year to all. As we look forward to 2026, prepare yourselves for the exciting selections that will be discussed at our monthly meetings.

Our first session of the year on January 9 will highlight Chris Whitaker’s All the Colors of the Dark, with Abby Laughlin as our facilitator. This international bestselling novel was inspired by the author’s personal childhood trauma. It follows two children, Patch and Saint, whose lives are changed forever when Patch intervenes to save a young woman from an act of violence, only to find himself kidnapped. This traumatic event sets off a sprawling story that unfolds over several years and across multiple locations, as Patch searches for Grace, who remains etched in his memory from that painful time. The novel explores many themes including women’s struggle for autonomy, the lasting effects of trauma, and the search for identity. You will not want to miss our lively discussion.

Our February 13 discussion takes us in a completely different direction. With Jodi Dumas facilitating, we will examine and compare Mark Twain’s 1884 classic The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with Percival Everett’s 2024 novel James. While Twain’s novel follows Huck as he flees his abusive father and rafts down the Mississippi River with Jim, a runaway slave, Everett’s novel retells the story through the perspective of Jim himself. Themes of racism, freedom, hypocrisy, and injustice during the pre Civil War period are central to both novels as we share in their journey along the Mississippi River. Whether read separately or together, these books promise a meaningful and engaging discussion.

We meet on the second Friday of the month at 11:30 a.m. in the Commodore’s Lounge. Please make your reservations at the front desk for our January 9 and February 13 discussions and place your lunch selections from the variety of sandwiches, salads, and other menu choices that are available. Lunch is served promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

Friday Colors at CRYC

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.

Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.

Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.

1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.

2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.

4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.

Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.

Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

RECIPROCITY RESPONSIBILITIES & PRIVILEGES OF FCYC CLUB MEMBERS

Your Responsibilities When Visiting Another FCYC Club:

• Reservations should be made with the hosting club. Even if the decision to visit another FCYC club is spur-ofthe-moment, a call to the hosting club is appropriate.

• Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club. Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club.

• Inquire about dress code when making a reservation.

• Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit.

• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.

• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.

• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.

• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.

Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:

• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:

• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.

• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.

• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.

• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.

• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.

• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.

• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.

A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
