One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.
We kindly ask that if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30–40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.
We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.
The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!
Here we are heading into the holidays and the end of another good year at CRYC.
I want to thank our members for your enthusiasm and commitment as we continue making our Club that special place where you come to enjoy wonderful times with wonderful friends.
The Pointe – Hard to believe, we are one month away from the 1st anniversary of the opening of this beautiful facility. It never disappoints as it continues to be the place to gather day into evening.

Events – November and December are filled with special events and holiday dinners for members and their families. Check your emails for updated flyers, the Club’s “Week at a Glance,” as well as the Log for dates and updates. You can also pick up a printed copy of the monthly calendar at the front desk. Make your reservations now as these events fill up quickly. If you have questions or difficulty making reservations, do not hesitate to call reception.
Every column I like to remind our members that membership is a privilege. Let us show each other - members and, just as important, our staff - the same respect and kindness we would like to have shown to us.
When you see our CRYC “new member” burgee on a table or the bar, please remember to introduce yourself, invite them to dinner, to an event or to join one or several of the many wonderful clubs within our club. We were all new members once.
Warmest regards,

Commodore

It’s that time of year that we welcome our snowbird friends back for another great season at Coral Ridge Yacht Club. As usual the Foundation has plans to continue our efforts to benefit the community and CRYC. We will start to make plans to continue our summer sailing camp in partnership with the City of Ft Lauderdale. Last year’s program was a huge success, but we are always anxious to expand and improve. Any suggestions are always welcome.
Our work is only made possible by donations and most of them come from our supporters at the Club and your participation in our events. All donations of any amount are always welcomed and appreciated.
Foundation Day is scheduled for November 15, 2025. Everyone is welcome for a fun day with live music and the opportunity to enjoy our sailboats, kayaks, paddleboards, etc., and, as usual, at no cost to you. Food and drink will be available, and kids eat free.

Our Epicurean Dinner will be in the Commodore’s Lounge on Thursday night, November 20, 2025. This event was originally limited to 20 guests, but Chef Steve has assured me that we can expand it and still have the usual outstanding event. It is not only a culinary delight with complimentary cocktails, wine, hors d’ oeuvres, music and white glove service, but your $500 per person donation goes a long way in helping us continue our good work. As I write in this article we have 36 reservations, and the event is limited to 40 guests. Give yourself a treat, and enjoy this very special evening while supporting your Foundation.
Our major fundraising event, The Party with a Purpose, is scheduled for March 20, 2026. Please save the date. Your $250.00 per person donation will include a gourmet dinner, complimentary cocktail party with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, and complimentary wine with dinner. Plus, don’t forget live music and the very popular silent auction.
Some of our members have donated very nice items to include in our silent auction at the event, and we welcome those donations as well as donations of any amount. Remember, all donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
I am also pleased to report that we now have a Lazer Sailboat that will be used by our more experienced sailors and will also be available to our members along with all our other assets at no costs to you. Please take advantage of them on Foundation Day or any other time that suits you.
As always, thank you very much for supporting your Foundation.

Summer has sailed away, and 2025 is flying by! We all know that once Halloween hits, the year seems to disappear in a flurry of festivities, so much to do, and so little time.
Looking back at September, our Auxiliary luncheon gave us a behind-the-scenes peek into Chef Steve’s kitchen magic. If you’re not familiar with Sous Vide cooking, go ask Chef Steve, you’ll be amazed! His demonstration was insightful, and the salmon he prepared as part of our delicious Salad Niçoise, accompanied by two vinaigrettes, was a true treat.
October’s evening event was an outstanding presentation on Cher, a true walk down memory lane! From the iconic songs to the unforgettable outfits, we learned so much about her journey, her struggles and her successes. Fun fact: did you know Cher was more popular in Europe than in the U.S.? And in her own words, “If I could turn back time…”
Of course, that’s not all we’ve been up to. September and October are always the busiest months for the Auxiliary Board, and everyone who helps make the Fashion Show the event of the year. Hosting more than 275 attendees takes a bit of Santa’s workshop spirit!
This year’s theme, James Bond 007, promises to make it the biggest and best show yet filled with style, excitement, and a hint of mystery. Our models will be showcasing fabulous fashions from J. McLaughlin and Zola Keller, with great food, music, and singing, setting the stage for an afternoon of excitement, elegance, and a touch of glamour worthy of 007.
Don’t miss our Silent Auction, featuring everything from fine dining and spa packages to unforgettable yacht experiences, generously donated by our members. The Boutique will offer 20 vendors for your shopping pleasure, and our 50/50 raffle could make one lucky winner’s holiday even brighter!
And as the year winds down, mark your calendars for our December luncheon, where Pam Arfaras will show us how to create beautiful holiday wreaths. Be sure to sign up early and order the number of wreaths you’d like to make, we know many of you have double doors!
So much to do, and so little time… See you at the show!
Not yet a member of the Auxiliary? We’d love to welcome you!

We’re thrilled to welcome so many members back as the season begins.
I’d like to take a moment to share my appreciation for the CRYC Auxiliary and the amazing contribution they’ve made this year. Through their dedication and tireless efforts, the Auxiliary raised an incredible $17,600 in 2025, a true reflection of their commitment to our Club.
Their hard work made possible the purchase of several meaningful additions that enhance the comfort and experience of our members, including a Pool Chair Lift, Commodore’s Lounge Shades, New Microphones, Tablecloths, and Plate Chargers.
While we all benefit from these improvements, it’s the time and energy that went into making them possible that truly deserves recognition. The Auxiliary’s spirit of giving and teamwork is an important part of what makes CRYC such a special place.
To every member of the Auxiliary Board, thank you for all that you do and everything you take on. Your efforts are truly appreciated. If you are not yet a member of Auxiliary, and would like to learn more about their organization, please reach out to their President, Angela Kruger.

The Daytrippers is a family-friendly, smaller boating group at the CRYC that any member of the Club can join, free of charge. This group arranges four annual day trips for smaller boats in close proximity to the yacht club. These events typically start around 11am and will last for a few hours, culminating in meeting back at the yacht club for poolside food, music and family fun!
The first Daytripper event will be Rock the Boat on Saturday, November 8th at the Fort Lauderdale Sandbar. For this event, we will bring our boats and meet at the Fort Lauderdale Sandbar at 11am and anchor/tie up there. There will be some inflatable toys and games for children, and everyone should feel free to bring food and drinks for themselves and whatever water toys they have and want to enjoy. Anyone who would like to order a boxed lunch from the Club can do so too by contacting the Club directly. Boxed lunches will be available for $15 each. At 2 PM, we will meet back at the Club for a pool party with hamburgers, hot dogs, music and more fun!
The next upcoming events will be the Sunrise Bay trip on Saturday January 10th, the Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup on Saturday March 7th and the Whiskey Creek event, date to be determined. If you would like to sign up to be added to the Daytrippers email list, please contact, Dr. Keryn Hughes, at CRYCDaytrippers@ gmail.com.

Greetings all,
It’s incredible that we’re already looking the holidays square in the eye! Our social calendar has been full of fun and fantastic activities bringing us all together, and we still have quite a lineup for the final two months of the year.
You’ll be receiving the November and December event calendars by email, as well as a 2026 calendar. Paper copies of our social calendar and The Log are also available at the front desk. Be sure to book the activities you’d like to attend early—reservations are the standard of the Club.
November is packed with a wonderful array of activities for our members and the first wave of returning Snowbirds. Veterans Day, celebrated on Saturday, November 8th, will feature The Rhythm Chicks. They’ll perform an hour-long show and then keep the energy going so you can dance the night away.
The long-anticipated Auxiliary Fashion Show will be held on November 12th, showcasing apparel with the theme 007 James Bond! The clothing bazaar opens early and remains open for a couple of hours afterward. Designer J. McLaughlin will present daywear, and designer Zola Keller—gracing our stage for the first time—will showcase her stunning collection. If you haven’t made your reservation yet, it’s probably too late; this event is sure to sell out!
On Saturday, November 22nd, we’ll welcome the Neil Diamond Tribute Show. This performer is said to be the best in the business! Make your reservations early. That same day, Margaret Engkvist will host the Dinghy Rally. Boaters will meet downtown and make their way back to the Club for lunch and a live guitar and vocal performance by Catfish. It’s shaping up to be quite the performance weekend for all who attend.
December kicks off with the CRYC Holiday Party on Saturday, December 6th. The evening begins with our Tree Lighting Celebration, featuring Treble in Paradise, an acapella group performing Christmas songs. We’ll then continue into the Club for a holiday spectacular featuring The All Stars! The next day, bring the family for Brunch with Santa, and on December 10th, Pam Arfaras will host Wreath Making.
The Winterfest Parade will take place on December 13th! This is a Club-wide event with limited reservations to ensure members can fully enjoy the parade. Guests will be limited to six per member. Let’s hope for a beautiful evening surrounded by family and friends.
Our Chanukah Dinner will be held on Sunday, December 14th, in the Commodore’s Lounge. A special meal is being planned by our own Steve Zobel. Limited seating will ensure an elevated dining experience.
On December 18th, join us for Gingerbread House Decorating, fun for the entire family! Then on Friday, December 19th, we’ll host Movie Night, featuring The Polar Express.
Christmas Day Dinner will be held on December 25th with one seating only—reservations are required! We’ll close out the year with our New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance featuring The REAXtion Band. And don’t forget to join us on January 1st for our traditional New Year’s Day Black-Eyed Pea Soup celebration!

Meet Isabella Steward Gardner, the subject of The Lioness of Boston by Emily Franklin and the focus of our book discussion on November 14th. Barbara Kinnear will facilitate. Isabella was a woman who married into Boston society in the 1880s but was never accepted by it; she was a woman who so badly wanted to become a mother but remained childless after she lost her only son. This was a woman who finally found her place in this world, in a man’s world, determined that her life had purpose. She travelled, followed her passion and collected art, along with friendships with many famous writers and artists. She was a feminist before her time, who sought acceptance and belonging.
On December 12th, we shall examine the plight of four exceptional women: Hedwig Kohn, Lise Meitner, Hertha Sponer and Hildegarde Stuckler, as we discuss Sisters of Science, by Olivia Campbell. Audrey Hunter will facilitate. All four were accomplished physicists living in Germany in the 1930s. With two strikes against them, their gender and their religion, these women were shoved out of their academic positions and forced to eventually flee Germany. One cannot underestimate the life-and-death situations they faced, nor the Herculean efforts by friends and prominent scientists to get them to safety. One cannot underestimate how their scientific curiosity and their sense of sisterhood enabled them to survive the war and continue their work.
We meet on the 2nd Friday of the month at 11:30 am in the Commodore’s Lounge. Please make your reservations at the front desk and place your lunch selections from the variety of sandwiches, salads and other menu choices that are available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843.
Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.
Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.
1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.
2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.
4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.
Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.
Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

Enjoy a day on the water with our complimentary paddle boards and kayaks, available exclusively for Members.

• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.
• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.
• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.
• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.
Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:
• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:
• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.
• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.
• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.
• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.
• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.
• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.
• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.
A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
