CAL POLY POMONA’S BARKADA Barkada in Tagalog means “a group of friends.” We are a group of friends whose aim is to promote the recognition and understanding of the Pilipino culture at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and our surrounding community.

ATHLETICS This organization would not exist if we weren’t students first. Barkada aims to push students to succeed in their academics. When they reach the end of their academic career, they are celebrated with the annual Pilipino Graduation. The Academics pillar also fosters the Kuya/Ate/Ading program, which is our membership program between older and younger Barkada members.

SOCIAL Socials help our members get to know each other and help them unwind from the stresses of school and work. We aim to help strengthen our bond as a club as well as help members improve their social skills. Social events include Barkada’s participation in CSUF’s annual Friendship Games, ice skating, Round 1, and our end of the year banquet.

CULTURE Our role as an organization is to bring awareness of the Pilipino culture. We do this by having culture corners at bi-weekly general meetings, hosting Pilipino American History Month events, and having the annual Pilipino American Culture Night. Not only do we emphasize Pilipino culture, but we help students understand the identity of Pilipino-American culture as well.
