And we’ve taken the worry out of your escape with a free health coverage plan. Every day we are getting back to ‘normal’. Of course, in the lush tropical paradise that is Casa de Campo, normal has never been part of the vocabulary. Even during a global pandemic, the amazing Casa de Campo team continues to elevate every experience possible, something everyone, guests and villa owners alike, is very grateful for. So, as we all slowly get vaccinated and life begins to settle back to normal, we can also appreciate how wonderful certain aspects of quarantine have been … like working from “home” at the beach or by the pool. Let’s face it, we would be hardpressed to think of a better place to call our home office—and now that virtual working has gone mainstream, so too has the amount of time we can spend enjoying the lifestyle, services, amenities, and comfort of this little slice of heaven. In this issue of Casa de Campo Living, we’ve focused on our incredible community, the arts, and a few tastes of the Dominican Republic—all a not-so-subtle reminder to enjoy life in Casa to the fullest. So, whether you choose golf, lounging on the beach, or going for a horseback ride, it’s time to get back out there and make sure to enjoy every moment.

Incluso durante una pandemia global, el increíble equipo de Casa de Campo continúa elevando cada experiencia posible, algo por lo que todos, huéspedes y propietarios de villas por igual, están muy agradecidos. Entonces, a medida que todos nos vacunamos lentamente y la vida comienza a volver a la normalidad, también podemos apreciar lo maravillosos que han sido ciertos aspectos de la cuarentena... como trabajar desde “casa” en la playa o junto a la piscina. Seamos realistas, sería difícil pensar en un mejor lugar para tener nuestra oficina en casa, y ahora que el trabajo virtual se ha generalizado, también lo ha hecho la cantidad de tiempo que podemos pasar disfrutando del estilo de vida, los servicios y las comodidades de este pedacito de cielo. En esta edición de Casa de Campo Living, nos hemos centrado en nuestra increíble comunidad, las artes y algunos colores de la República Dominicana, todo un recordatorio no tan sutil de disfrutar la vida en Casa al máximo. Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy MORE THAN A SCHOOL, A FAMILY BY MARLENYS GUZMÁN

he Ballet Academy, formerly called the Magda Corbett Ballet Academy, was founded just over 50 years ago by Elizabeth P. de Zeller and was named after her teacher, who founded the country's first ballet school. Tia Eli, like most of her friends and students loved to call her, was very loving, you could always count on her, and she was passionate about dancing. “It was her life. She lived for ballet for so long that she never saw her life without dancing,” says her daughter Ivonne Zeller who is also a dancer and who since 2009 has assumed the direction of the school after the death of her mother. “My mom dedicated her life to ballet. As a dancer she

La Academia de Ballet, que antes se llamaba Academia de Ballet Magda Corbet, fue fundada hace un poco más de 50 años por Elizabeth P. de Zeller y fue nombrada así en honor a su profesora, quien fundó la primera escuela de ballet del país. Tia Eli, como a la mayoría de sus amigos y estudiantes les encantaba llamarla, era sumamente amorosa, siempre se podía contar con ella y le apasionaba el baile. “Era su vida. Vivió tanto para el ballet que nunca vió su vida sin el baile”, nos cuenta su hija Ivonne Zeller quien también es bailarina y desde el 2009, asumió la dirección de la escuela luego de la muerte de su madre. “Mi mamá dedicó su vida al ballet. Como bailarina fue súper competitiva y siempre dio lo mejor de sí; trabajó arduamente y gracias a esto logró convertirse en Prima Ballerina. Luego como profesora fue muy exigente, pero lo hacía con tanto amor que las niñas se sentían felices. Se sentía una madre de todas las niñas de la Academia y todas las amaban. Mi madre amó tanto el ballet que lo convirtió en parte de su existir. Uno de sus deseos era de que la academia que ella había creado con tanto amor y en la que había trabajado con tanta dedicación pudiera continuar aun después de su muerte. Para mí, había gran nobleza y humildad en este deseo, por lo que decidí cambiar el nombre de la escuela a Academia de Ballet Elizabeth P. de Zeller en honor a ella así su nombre quedaría marcado en la historia no simplemente como un recuerdo pasajero, sino como uno viviente”, sostiene Ivonne. Con los años, la academia ha crecido significativamente. Cuenta con un excelente equipo de profesoras que exigen lo mejor de sus alumnas y al mismo tiempo se dedican a ellas con el mismo cariño que Tia Eli, continuando así su legado y haciendo crecer la familia extendida que ella inició. En la escuela se aceptan estudiantes desde los 3 años y hasta hace poco, antes de la pandemia, habían comenzado a también impartir clases a varones. Muchas niñas de La Romana han bailado en la academia en algún momento de sus vidas y algunas por años. Daniela Hernández, egresada de la academia nos cuenta su experiencia, "Bailar en la Academia de Ballet Elizabeth P. de Zeller fue una experiencia mágica. Desde mi primera función, las personas con las que compartí, se convirtieron en mi segunda familia. Ser parte de un equipo tan unido con el cual tuve la oportunidad de compartir

“My mom dedicated her life to ballet” was super competitive and always gave her best; she worked hard and thanks to this she managed to become Prima Ballerina. Later as a teacher, she was very demanding, but she did it with so much love that the girls felt happy. She was like a mother to all the girls in the academy and they all loved her. My mother loved ballet so much that she made it part of her existence. One of her wishes was that the academy that she had created with so much love and in which she had worked with such dedication could continue even after her death. For me, there was great nobility and humility in this desire, so I decided to change the name of the school to Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy in her honor so her name would be marked in history. Not simply as a passing memory, but as a living one,” Ivonne tells us. Over the years the academy has grown significantly. It has an excellent team of teachers who demand the best from their students and at the same time dedicate themselves to them with the same love as Tia Eli, thus continuing her legacy and growing the extended family that she started. The school accepts students from the age of 3 and until recently, before the pandemic, they had also begun to teach boys. Many girls from La Romana have danced at the academy at some point in their lives and some for years. Daniela Hernández, a graduate of the academy, tells us about her experience, "Dancing at the Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy was a magical experience. From my first performance, my fellow students became my second family. To be part of a team so united with which I had the opportunity to share what I most love, was an experience that marked my life. Here I not only discovered my passion for dance, but also the value of perseverance and discipline. In the academy they always motivated us

to be our best version on stage and in our daily lives; to shine with our own light, but above all to enjoy our passion for dance, that is why I will always consider it as my second home.” “For my mother and now for me, these are girls that we have watched grow up and whom we love because we consider them part of us and we will always be there for them. We are a great team and we work together to obtain the desired results. In life, we all have moments of happiness, sadness, and frustrations in which dance becomes our form of expression and that unites people. We try to bring out the best in each girl as a person and a dancer. We share good moments and we have many beautiful memories throughout the years,” says Ivonne. Dancing influences those who practice it in different ways; it is not only about increasing physical resistance, it also helps to solve orthopedic problems, and teaches how to work as a team. Dance gives them hope, a healthy hobby, and spirituality. It not only teaches discipline but also how to respect our bodies and resilience; it helps develop children’s mental, intellectual, and innate abilities boosting their confidence in themselves which helps them to make better decisions in their day-to-day life. "Ballet is something that has been a constant in my life, it has been a big part of me, and it is because of my mother and her ballet academy," Ivonne tells us. “I have always liked dancing because it is a way of expressing myself when I don’t have the words to do it. My mother might have inspired me to start dancing, but the reason I have continued to do so is that it is now a part of my heart and soul." When asked how she and her mother would define dance, she replied, “For me, dance is a means of expressing feelings, emotions, and thoughts through movements; my mother would simply define it as the most precious form of art that ever existed. But I am sure that we would

Somos un gran equipo y trabajamos juntas para obtener los resultados deseados. En la vida todos tenemos momentos de alegría, tristeza y frustraciones en los que el baile se convierte en nuestra forma de expresión y eso unifica a las personas. Intentamos sacar lo mejor de cada niña como persona y bailarina. Compartimos momentos buenos y nos quedan muchos recuerdos lindos a través de los años”, comenta Ivonne. El baile influye de diferentes formas en quienes lo practican; no se trata solo de aumentar la resistencia física, también ayuda a resolver problemas ortopédicos y enseña a trabajar en equipo. La danza les da esperanza, un pasatiempo saludable y espiritualidad. No solo enseña disciplina, sino también cómo respetar nuestro cuerpo y resiliencia; ayuda a desarrollar las habilidades mentales, intelectuales e innatas de los niños aumentando su confianza en sí mismos, lo que les ayuda a tomar mejores decisiones en su vida diaria. "El ballet es algo que ha sido una constante en mi vida, ha sido una gran parte de mí, y es por mi madre y su academia de ballet", nos cuenta Ivonne. “Siempre me ha gustado bailar porque es mi forma de expresarme cuando no tengo palabras para hacerlo. Mi madre pudo haberme inspirado a empezar a bailar, pero la razón por la que he seguido haciéndolo

Ivonne not only runs the academy but also teaches and is a choreographer. “When it comes to dancing, everything fills me whether it's dancing, teaching, or choreographing a new dance routine. Everything in life has different stages, and I think that all of them have given me great satisfaction. Right now, it is gratifying to be part of the lives of each of the girls that we are shaping, and to see what they become as adults.” As the first ballet school in the city and the history it has, we asked Ivonne what does the future hold for the Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy, “With God in charge, we believe that we will overcome this pandemic and that all our girls and their families remain healthy. Then when the time is right and it is safe for our girls we will open our doors, with new strength, hope, and encouragement. We have many new projects that we are already working on, so we are very excited and hopeful for the future! We look forward to celebrating 50 more years!"

Todo tiene su etapa en la vida y creo que todas me han dado una gran satisfacción. Ahora mismo, es muy gratificante poder ser parte de la vida de cada una de las niñas que vamos moldeando, y ver en lo que se convierten de adultas”. Como la primera escuela de ballet de la ciudad y la trayectoria que tiene, le preguntamos a Ivonne que le depara el futuro a la Academia de Ballet Elizabeth P. de Zeller, “Esperamos con fé en Dios que nos ayude con esta pandemia y que todas nuestras niñas y sus familiares puedan estar a salvo. Luego cuando sea el momento preciso y sea seguro para nuestras niñas, abriremos nuestras puertas, con nuevas fuerzas, esperanza y ánimo. Tenemos muchos proyectos nuevos y estamos trabajando desde ya para poder realizarlos, ¡Así que estamos bien emocionadas y esperanzadas! ¡Esperamos poder celebrar 50 años más!"

MARIANNA McCABE: "There are no words to describe how much my life has changed, thanks to ballet, it has become an essential complement in my daily life and without it I would feel incomplete. It has given me discipline, but also the opportunity to meet people who have given light to my life that I did not have. The Elizabeth P. de Zeller Academy is my second home, never in my life have I met a group as united as ours. Every day that passes is a new episode of learning and friendship that remains in my heart. In life, many fail to follow their passions as I have been able to do so with dance and I am grateful to have this wonderful opportunity.”

MARIANNA McCABE: "No hay palabras para describir cuánto ha cambiado mi vida gracias al ballet; se ha convertido en un complemento imprescindible en mi vida diaria y sin él me sentiría incompleta. Me ha dado disciplina, pero también la oportunidad de conocer personas que han dado luz a mi vida que yo no tenía. La Academia Elizabeth P. de Zeller es mi segundo hogar, nunca en mi vida había conocido un grupo tan unido como el nuestro. Cada día que pasa es un nuevo episodio de aprendizaje y amistad que permanece en mi corazón. En la vida muchos no logran seguir sus pasiones como he podido yo con el baile y me siento agradecida de tener esta maravillosa oportunidad”.

VALERIA DELCHEV: "For me, ballet is not a hobby, it is my life. It is one of my strongest forms of expression without having to use spoken language; I stop using words and transmit everything through my movements. The Elizabeth P Zeller Ballet Academy has been my second home and my teachers my second mothers. Without them, I would not be the person I am today!"

VALERIA DELCHEV: "Para mí, el ballet no es un pasatiempo, es mi vida. Es una de mis formas de expresión más fuertes sin tener que usar el lenguaje hablado; dejo las palabras y transmito todo a través de mis movimientos. La Academia de Ballet Elizabeth P. de Zeller ha sido mi segundo hogar y mis maestras mis segundas madres. ¡Sin ellas, no sería la persona que soy hoy!”

MARIELA SABINO: "Tia Eli helped me express my deepest feelings on stage. Through movement, music, effort, and hard work, every day I told stories that only she and the music knew I was going through. She was a mother who gave me love with her teachings. Her support encouraged me to never stop dreaming and to do my best. The Elizabeth P. de Zeller Ballet Academy gave me a family for life."

MARIELA SABINO: "Tia Eli me ayudó a expresar mis sentimientos más profundos en el escenario. A través del movimiento, la música, el esfuerzo y el trabajo duro, todos los días contaba historias que solo ella y la música sabían que atravesaba. Ella fue una madre que me brindó amor con sus enseñanzas. Su apoyo me animó a no dejar de soñar nunca y a dar lo mejor de mí. All of our classes were highly motivating, continuous exercise, but above all very loving! Tia Eli was an exceptional human being, always looking out for all of us. iving in Altos de Chavón, or as most like to call it the "Artists' Village", has given me the opportunity to get to know art in all its facets and forms. Through the years I have met very talented artists who work tirelessly for their dreams, as is the case of Argenis Lebrón. Originally from San Cristobal, Argenis comes from a very catholic, happy family with great values, especially his mother who is one of the most important people in his life. He is the second of three siblings and tells us that he had a spectacular and very happy childhood. “In my house, we always have music playing and are constantly dancing, that's why I love to dance, I remember my house full of joy, smiles, and kindness towards others. Everyone who knows me knows how much I like the music of the ‘bachatero’ Antony Santos, I think there is no one in the world who has gone to his presentatios more than me," Argenis tells us happily.

Vivir en Altos de Chavón, o como mucho la llaman la “Villa de los artistas”, me ha brindado la oportunidad de conocer el arte en todas sus facetas y formas. A través de los años he conocido artistas en todas las ramas, muy talentosos, que trabajan incansablemente por sus sueños, como es el caso de Argenis Lebrón. Procedente de San Cristóbal, Argenis viene de una una familia muy católica, alegre y de grandes valores, especialmente su madre que es una de las personas más importantes en su vida. Es el segundo de tres hermanos y nos cuenta que tuvo una infancia espectacular y muy feliz. “En mi casa desde siempre se escucha música y se baila, por eso me gusta bailar, recuerdo mi casa llena de alegría, sonrisas y amabilidad hacia los demás. Todo el que me conoce sabe lo mucho que me gusta la música del bachatero Antony Santos, creo que no hay nadie en el mundo que haya ido a una fiesta de él más que yo”, nos

“I always remember my trips to the countryside every weekend to the house of my uncle Neno and my godmother Celeste; that house is my favorite place in the world, I would not change it for anything.” His interest in art began at a very early age, but it was not until he reached the third grade that his teachers and family realized his potential. "My family has always supported me in everything that I have done, they were who used to buy me the art materials I needed to paint," he tells us. After discovering his artistic abilities, he was always that student who was asked to draw the national symbols on commemorative dates, and in the seventh grade, he won a regional drawing Olympics. As a teen he met the artists Fermín Ceballos and José Pelletier; “Every day on the way to school I had to cross a house from which you could always see impressive works of art through the windows. One day I decided to find

dice Argenis alegremente. “Recuerdo siempre mis viajes al campo todos los fines de semana a la casa de mi tio Neno y mi madrina Celeste; esa casa es mi lugar favorito en el mundo, no la cambiaría por nada”. Su interés por el arte comenzó a una edad muy temprana, pero no fue hasta que llegó al tercero de primaria que sus profesores y su familia se dieron cuenta del potencial que tenía. “Mi familia siempre me ha apoyado en todos los caminos que he recorrido, ellos eran quienes me compraban los materiales de arte que necesitaba para pintar”, nos cuenta. Luego de descubrir sus habilidades artísticas, siempre fue ese estudiante al que se le solicitaba dibujar los símbolos patrios en las fechas conmemorativas y en el séptimo grado, ganó una olimpiada regional de dibujo. En su adolescencia conoció a los artistas Fermín Ceballos y José Pelletier; “Todos los días camino a la escuela yo tenía que cruzar por una casa desde la cual siempre se

out more about who painted them; Fermín lived there, who at that time was still studying Fine Arts in Santo Domingo. He showed me his studio and his incredible pieces. We talked about art and he taught me about great artists; the first art book I ever saw was one he lent me, it was about Vincent Van Gogh. From that moment on we became good friends. Later on, he invited me to an exhibition that he was organizing with a group of artists in the San Cristóbal governors building. That night he introduced me to José Pelletier who, after meeting me and seeing my work, motivated me to take classes at the Pablo Claudio Musical Lyceum. That was where I took my first formal art classes. Two years later and on the recommendation of Pelletier, I enrolled in the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo. It was during my time there that I immersed myself in the art world, I visited museums and galleries, it was one of the things I liked to do the most, it was really inspiring. In 2004 I won my first art contest at Casa de Teatro,” Argenis fondly recalls. Years later, he met Yselsa Evangelista Nieto who spoke to him for the first time about the Chavón art school

Me mostró su estudio y sus increíbles obras. Conversamos sobre el arte y me habló de los grandes artistas; el primer libro de arte que vi en mi vida fue uno que él me prestó, era sobre Vincent Van Gogh. A partir de ese momento nos hicimos buenos amigos. Más adelante me invitó a una exposición que él estaba organizando con un grupo de artistas en la gobernación de San Cristóbal. Esa noche me presentó a José Pelletier quien luego de conocerme y ver mi trabajo me motivó a tomar clases en el Liceo Musical Pablo Claudio. Ahí fue donde tomé mis primeras clases formales de arte. Dos años más tarde y por recomendación de Pelletier me inscribí en la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes en Santo Domingo. Fue durante mi tiempo allí que me adentre de lleno en el mundo del arte, visitaba museos y galerías, era de las cosas que más me gustaba hacer, era realmente inspirador. En el 2004 gané mi primer concurso de arte en Casa de Teatro”, recuerda Argenis con alegría. Años más tarde conoce a Yselsa Evangelista Nieto quien le habló por primera vez de la escuela de arte Chavón y le presentó a Angelo Valenzuela quien era egresado y profesor de La Escuela de Diseño Altos de Chavón. Gracias a las recomendaciones y ayuda de Angelo, él preparó su portafolio y logró entrar en el año 2007 a Chavón graduándose en Bellas Artes e Ilustración en 2009 y de Diseño Gráfico en 2010. Ese mismo año, formó parte del programa Artistas en Residencia en el que presentó su obra en la Galería Altos de Chavón junto a Alexander Lumsden. “Chavón es una institución con profesores de primera, un lugar donde se respira, se piensa y se trabaja el arte todo el tiempo, ya sea en las clases, haciendo tarea o en una charla con artistas de renombre, nacionales e internacionales. Siento que para todo egresado de la escuela existe un antes y después de Chavón ya que la escuela te da cierta madurez como persona y artista.”

and introduced him to Angelo Valenzuela, who was a graduate and professor at the Altos de Chavón School of Design. Thanks to Angelo's advice and help, he prepared his portfolio and managed to enter Chavón School of Design in 2007 graduating in Fine Arts and Illustration in 2009 and Graphic Design in 2010. That same year, he was part of the Artists in Residence program in which he presented his work in the Altos de Chavón Gallery alongside Alexander Lumsden. “Chavón is an institution with top-notch teachers, a place where art is breathed, thought, and worked on all the time, whether in classes, doing homework, or in a lecture with renowned national and international artists. I feel that for every graduate there is a before and after Chavón, the school gives you a certain maturity as a person and an artist." At that time and on the recommendation of Mrs. Martha Victoria, who is the administrative director of Chavón School of Design, he began to give private art lessons in Casa de Campo, it was also when he met Mrs. Xiomara Menéndez Dajer who invited him to visit the Hogar del Niño; “On that first visit, I fell in love with this wonderful institution. I was an art volunteer for a while, and then I started to teach. To this day I have no way of thanking Mami Martha, as I affectionately call her, Xiomarita and the Hogar del Niño for what they have done for me. They have, in one way or another, contributed to my career as an artist and as an art teacher. Thanks to them, many doors have opened for me, I have been able to achieve many goals that I had and help my family.” Argenis enjoys working with oil on canvas and drawing or painting in black and white; he likes realistic drawings with a level of photographic detail but also minimalist abstracts, he is well known for his works that push the limits beyond what is being seen. "I like to make people stop to see them, feel

Martha Victoria quien es la directora administrativa de Chavón La Escuela de Diseño, comenzó a dar clases privadas de arte en Casa de Campo y fue también cuando conoció a la Sra. Xiomara Menéndez Dajer quien lo invita a ir al Hogar del Niño; “En esa primera visita me enamoré de esa maravillosa institución. Fui como voluntario de arte por un tiempo, y luego pasé a enseñar arte allá. Al día de hoy no tengo cómo agradecerle a Mami Martha, como le digo de cariño, a Xiomarita y al Hogar del Niño lo que han hecho por mi. Porque de una u otra forma han aportado a mi carrera como artista y como profesor de arte. Gracias a ellas se me han abierto muchas puertas, he podido lograr muchas metas que tenía y ayudar a mi familia”. Argenis disfruta trabajar en óleo sobre canvas y dibujar ó pintar en blanco y negro; le gusta los dibujo realista con un nivel de detalle fotográfico pero tambien el abstracto minimalista, es bien conocido por sus obras que empujan los límites más allá de lo que se está viendo. “Me gusta hacer que la gente se detenga a ver la obra, que se sienta intrigado e intente darle su propia interpretación”. Muchos artistas suelen enfocarse en una sola área artística; a él le gusta la diversidad que distintos medios le ofrecen a la hora de trabajar una pieza para un cliente ya que puede traer a la vida cualquier idea o solicitud que ellos tengan. Nos cuenta que a la hora de comenzar a trabajar en una pieza nueva encuentra inspiración en las cosas más sencillas y que le gusta pintar de noche sin distracciones, con su música favorita inundando el espacio, dejándose llevar por el lienzo que tiene enfrente y cualquier idea en su cabeza. Al preguntarle si tiene alguna obra favorita nos habla de ‘La niña Nacira con su perro fantasma’ la cual pintó en el año 2006. La pintura realizada en acrílico sobre canvas muestra una niña con una máscara sobre su boca y

intrigued, and try to give it their own interpretation." Many artists tend to focus on a single artistic area; Argenis likes the diversity that different media offers him when working on a piece for a client since he can bring to life any idea or request that they might have. He tells us that when starting to work on a new piece, he finds inspiration in the simplest things and that he likes to paint at night without distractions, listening to his favorite music, letting himself be carried away by the canvas in front of him, and any idea in his head. When asked if he has any favorite work, he tells us about 'The girl Nacira and her ghost dog' which he painted in 2006. The painting made in acrylic on canvas shows a girl with a mask over her mouth and nose and a cage next to her that housed her imaginary dog. As it is one of his favorite works, he gave it to his mother and it is in his parents' house. He currently lives in Altos de Chavón, where he also has his personal studio and if you are part of the Casa de Campo community or even the La Romana community, chances are you know or have heard of him. Argenis is often described as a friendly and joyful person, some might even say boisterous, who is kind to people and in his free time, you can find him enjoying a good cigar. He is also a tireless worker and firmly believes that in order to achieve goals and dreams, you must first be true to yourself and believe in what you do. Among his future projects is to open an art gallery that offers opportunities and support to Dominican artists, as well as a workshop that can meet the needs of art enthusiasts, from a piece that covers a complete wall to the smallest ornament that adorns a desk, “That's what I'm working on and focusing on now. I hope to be able to fulfill this long-awaited dream soon.”

Es también un trabajador incansable y cree firmemente que para poder llegar a cumplir metas y sueños, primero se debe ser fiel a uno mismo y creer en lo que se hace. Entre sus proyectos futuros está el abrir una galería de arte que ofrezca oportunidades y apoyo a los artistas dominicanos, además de un taller que pueda suplir las necesidades de los aficionados al arte, desde una obra que revista una pared completa hasta la más pequeña que adorne un escritorio, “En eso estoy trabajando y enfocando ahora. Espero poder cumplir este anhelado sueño pronto”.

GETTING TO KNOW OUR COMMUNITY: MR. JERONIMO M. ESTEVE III 36 CASA DE CAMPO LIVING

At Casa de Campo we have a large and varied community, full of people with interesting and inspiring stories. An example of this is Mr. Jeronimo Esteve III. Originally from Cuba, Mr. Jeronimo Miguel and his family moved to Puerto Rico when he was eight years old. In 1963 his father Don Jerónimo EsteveAbril founded Bella International, a distributor of products manufactured by Honda, where he began his automotive career as a sales representative and worked his way through the ranks to become Vice President. In the 1970s his family came to the Dominican Republic, to Casa de Campo, becoming regular visitors and now villa owners. “I remember when the hotel opened. I saw how the lakes, the Country Club and La Marina were built… I remember the airport near Punta Águila and Teeth of the Dog. I have witnessed the evolution of this place,” Mr. Jeronimo tells us. In 1978, he married his wife, Mrs. Yazmin Salgado, with whom he had three children, who to date have given him five grandchildren. "I think one of my greatest successes is that my wife agreed to marry me just two weeks after we met," Mr. Jeronimo happily tells us. When asked about his time in Casa de Campo, he says, “My children have grown up here, they enjoy it here, we are part of the ‘old guard’ and each time we come we are happier but at the same time sad because we have to to go. Here we feel like we can breathe and relax. It's hard to pick just

“I HAVE WITNESSED THE EVOLUTION OF THIS PLACE”

En Casa de Campo contamos con una comunidad amplia y variada, llena de personas con historias interesantes e inspiradoras. Un ejemplo de esto es Sr. Jeronimo Esteve III. Originario de Cuba, Sr. Jeronimo Miguel y su familia se mudan a Puerto Rico cuando tenía ocho años. En 1963 su padre Don Jerónimo EsteveAbril fundó Bella International, un distribuidor de productos fabricados por Honda, donde él comenzó su carrera automotriz como representante de ventas, y trabajó arduamente en las distintas áreas del negocio hasta convertirse en vicepresidente. En los años 70 su familia llegó a la República Dominicana, a Casa de Campo, convirtiéndose en visitantes regulares y ahora dueños de villa. “Recuerdo cuando abrió el hotel. Vi cómo se hicieron los Lakes, cuando se construyó el Country, La Marina… Recuerdo el aeropuerto cerca de Punta Águila y Teeth of the Dog. He sido testigo de la evolución de este lugar”, nos cuenta Sr. Jeronimo. En 1978 se casa con quien hasta la fecha es su esposa, la señora Yazmin Salgado con quien procreó tres hijos, quienes hasta hoy le han dado cinco nietos. “Creo que uno de mis mayores éxitos es que mi esposa haya aceptado casarse conmigo a tan solo dos semanas de habernos conocido”, nos dice Sr. Jeronimo alegremente. Al preguntarle sobre su tiempo en Casa de Campo, nos comenta, “Mis hijos se han criado aquí, han gozado aquí, somos parte de la vieja guardia y cada vez que venimos nos vamos más

one thing as our favorite. My family and I love how helpful people are, the golf courses are first-class, the Marina is spectacular. If you want to play tennis, go horseback riding, or sailing, you can do it all here; the complex is a complete package. Casa de Campo is the haven of many, a safe place that gets better with each passing year.” In 1985, he became president of Bella International, managing to expand the business, becoming the sole distributor of Honda products in Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. A few years later, Mr. Jeronimo bought Rainbow Toyota in Miami and renamed it Headquarter Toyota. “The agency was one of the Toyota dealerships ranked as one of the 100 worst in customer satisfaction. The company was losing thousands of dollars monthly. I am proud to say that with the same people who worked there from the beginning, modifying the processes, without making radical changes, we were able to change how people saw the company and have profits in the first month of running it. We went from being one of the worst to be in the top 5 companies with the best customer service, being continually recognized for service, customer retention, and sales,” he says proudly.

Si quieres jugar tenis, montar a caballo, salir a navegar, lo puedes hacer todo aquí; el complejo es un paquete completo. Casa de Campo es el refugio de muchos, un lugar seguro que mejora con cada año que pasa”. En 1985, se convirtió en presidente de Bella International, logrando expandir el negocio convirtiéndose en el único distribuidor de productos Honda en Puerto Rico y las Islas Vírgenes de los Estados Unidos. Unos años más tarde, Sr. Jeronimo compró Rainbow Toyota en Miami, y lo renombró como Headquarter Toyota. “La agencia era uno de los concesionarios Toyota clasificada como una de las cien peores en satisfacción al cliente. La empresa perdía miles de dólares mensualmente. Me siento orgulloso de decir que con la misma gente que trabajaba ahí desde un principio, modificando los procesos, y sin hacer cambios radicales logramos cambiar como las personas veían la compañía y tener ganancias en el primer mes de manejarla. Pasamos de ser una de las peores a estar en el top 5 de empresas con el mejor servicio al cliente siendo continuamente reconocidos por el servicio, la retención de clientes y las ventas”, nos señala con orgullo. Desde entonces la empresa ha ido creciendo convirtiéndose en Headquarter Automotive y como resultado de su liderazgo, ahora incluye varias marcas. “Tenemos una agencia Toyota en Miami, en Orlando tenemos Honda, Mazda y Hyundai. Vendemos entre todas alrededor de seis mil unidades todos los meses. Tenemos casi quinientos empleados, y gracias a Dios no tuvimos que suspender a nadie durante la pandemia, nos hemos preocupado por llevar todos los protocolos de salud y seguridad para garantizar el bienestar de nuestros colaboradores y clientes”, nos comenta Sr. Jeronimo. Al preguntarle cómo describiría Headquarter Automotive a alguien que no la conozca, responde: “Vendemos carros, pero nuestro negocio es hacer sonrisas. Nuestra misión es que nuestros clientes estén contentos con nosotros, que no tengan miedo y tengan la seguridad y certeza de que los trataremos bien, que con nosotros tendrán precios justos y buenos, lo que nos da la oportunidad de un futuro mejor. Si un cliente no está contento contigo, no tienes futuro. Aun con el internet, a la gente le gusta ir al concesionario y hablar con el vendedor. Si el servicio es bueno, quieres volver y serás leal,

Since then the company has grown ultimately becoming Headquarter Automotive and as a result of his leadership, now includes various brands. “We have a Toyota agency in Miami, in Orlando we have Honda, Mazda, and Hyundai. We all sell around six thousand units every month. We have almost five hundred employees, and thank God we did not have to suspend anyone during the pandemic, we have followed all health and safety protocols to guarantee the well-being of our collaborators and clients,” Mr. Jeronimo tells us. When asked how he would describe Headquarter Automotive to someone who does not know, he replies, “We sell cars, but our business is to make smiles. Our mission is that our clients are happy with us, that they are not afraid and have the security and certainty that we will treat them well, that with us they will have fair and good prices, which gives us a chance for a better future. If a client is not happy with you, you have no future. Even with the internet, people like to go to the dealer and talk to the salesperson. If the service is good, you want to return and you will be loyal, in addition to recommending it to those you know.” We asked Mr. Jeronimo what his plans are for the future of Headquarter Automotive and he tells us, “We have plans to grow but in a measured way. My son is taking the reins of the business, and my eldest daughter is the one who makes sure that our clients have an unforgettable experience when they visit us. The whole family is involved, it is a family business. Our company has been recognized as one of the 500 largest Hispanic-owned companies in the country. We couple our exceptional customer service with our values. We have people who have been with us for more than thirty years, which is easier said than done. We all strive for continuous improvement day after day.” In his spare time, Mr. Jeronimo likes to read, learn new things, travel, play golf, and loves photography. He is a man who likes to live life at one hundred percent, and who has many stories to tell. He is characterized by making thoughtful, analytical, and well-informed decisions. One of the things that he learned from his father and that he lives by is that you can get where you want but without hurting anyone, whilst at the same time and staying true to his values: integrity, generosity, innovation, a true desire to improve the world and, of course, hard work. For him, success is not only defined in business but rather in how people perceive you, “To always have all the doors open, and people wanting to be with you, and that they consider you a decent, serious, honest, fun and hardworking person. For me to be successful is also to be a good husband, father, grandfather, son and that all my relationships can reach the top.”

Todos nos esforzamos por la mejora continua día tras día”. En su tiempo libre a Sr. Jeronimo le gusta leer, aprender cosas nuevas, viajar, jugar al golf y es aficionado a la fotografía. Es un hombre que le gusta vivir la vida al cien por ciento, y que tiene muchas historias que contar. En los negocios se caracteriza por la toma de decisiones reflexivas, analíticas y bien informadas. Una de las cosas que aprendió de su padre y por la que vive es; que puedes llegar a donde quieras pero sin lastimar a nadie, y manteniéndose fiel a sus valores: integridad, generosidad, innovación, un verdadero deseo de mejorar el mundo y, por supuesto, trabajo duro. Para él, el éxito no sólo se define en los negocios sino más bien en cómo las personas te perciben, “Tener siempre todas las puertas abiertas, que la gente quiera estar contigo, y que te consideren una persona decente, seria, honesta, divertida, trabajadora. Para mi ser exitoso es también ser un buen esposo, padre, abuelo, hijo y que todas mis relaciones puedan llegar al tope”.

he is what she herself has called, a “Successful mistake”. Dr. Silvestre never dreamed of being a dentist, she explains that she wanted to be a doctor with a specialty in psychiatry, in fact, she studied medicine at the Universidad Pedro Henriquez Ureña (UNPHU) but in the sixth semester, she changed and enrolled in dentistry, a degree that she completed at the Universidad Central del Este (UCE). When she graduated, she specialized in oral implantology and trained at the V René Descartes University in Paris. Once she finished she moved on to specialize in oral surgery, where she had the opportunity to do train in Sao Paulo Brazil, New York, Lisbon, among other. To date, she has been practicing dentistry for 21 years, “I feel immense pleasure in being able to provide our services to people who need it; to be able to put a smile on their faces and restore their self-esteem and see how they practically return to life!, is immensely gratifying and what I enjoy most about my job. I thank God to be able to

I believe that from my mother's womb, and regardless of the fact that at the beginning I was inclined to study medicine first, already in the mind of God I was destined to make smiles," she says. Dental Integral was born on September 12, 2000, with a small office at the end of a dark corridor in a business building in La Romana. That was more than twenty years ago, and she thanks God for how the clinic has grown; 18 years ago they started providing their services to the Central Romana shipping agency where they serve all the crew members of the cruise ships, years later they opened new offices in San Pedro de Macorís, Bávaro-Punta Cana, the Coral Medical Center of La Romana and in La Marina Casa de Campo where they recently celebrated their seventh anniversary. Recently, Dr. Francis opened two new offices in the parks of Zona Franca 1 and Zona Franca 2, where they provide service to more than 10 thousand workers and their dependents. Dental Integral is the only dental center in the area that has a 3D tomography, panoramic radiography, operating

Una vez que terminó pasó a especializarse en cirugía bucal, donde tuvo la oportunidad de realizar su entrenamiento en Sao Paulo Brasil, Nueva York, Lisboa, entre otros lugares. A la fecha tiene 21 años ejerciendo la odontología, “Siento un inmenso placer al poder dar nuestros servicios y más a personas de bajos recursos; regalarle una sonrisa y devolverle el autoestima a una persona ¡es como devolverle prácticamente la vida!, es mi máxima felicidad y lo que más disfruto de mi trabajo. Me siento muy agradecida y da mucho placer el poder servir y retribuir por gracia lo que por gracia he recibido y ayudar a una persona a mejorar su salud bucal, eso para mi No Tiene Precio. Entiendo que desde el vientre de mi madre y sin importar que al principio me haya inclinado por estudiar medicina primero, ya en la mente de Dios yo estaba diseñada para ejercer esta hermosa carrera de hacer sonrisas”, comenta. Dental Integral nació el 12 de septiembre del 2000 con un pequeño consultorio al final de un pasillo oscuro en una plaza de La Romana. Ya de eso hace más de veinte años, y agradece a Dios lo mucho que han crecido. Desde hace dieciocho años le prestan sus servicios a la agencia naviera del Central Romana donde atiende a todos los tripulantes de los cruceros; años más tarde abre nuevas oficinas en San Pedro de Macorís, Bávaro-Punta Cana, Centro Médico Coral de La Romana y La Marina Casa de Campo donde recientemente cumplieron su septimo

Every day in all its offices they provide their services free of charge to five people who do not have health insurance and are unemployed and cannot afford it. For her, one of the most valuable things in life is spending time with her family, either by getting together for a delicious meal or a good wine, but always with her family. This is not only limited to her private life but also to her work; Dr. Francis is very grateful to God for having the opportunity to collaborate with her siblings when treating patients who arrive with fear and dental anxiety, a very common problem that many patients and dentists face. “My sister, Carolina Silvestre is a psychologist and a fundamental part of the Dental Integral staff. She has served as support for patients prior to the dental consultation, achieving extremely successful results through therapy and the assistance that she gives them. We have noticed that they then completely lose their fear, and walk in as if they had never suffered from that condition.” Dr. Silvestre considers that some of the qualities that a person who wishes to study Dentistry should have are a vocation of service, humanity and humility, “it is useless to have the best education and preparation if we do not have these qualities, first we are humans, then surgeons!” she says proudly.

Causa is Casa de Campo’s newest culinary creation. In an informal, modern, and positive atmosphere, this new restaurant in La Marina offers its guests and the Casa community the opportunity to discover the gastronomy of Peru, one of the most varied and exquisite in the world. Causa is the name of an iconic Peruvian that uses potato as the main ingredient, but it is also a phrase that is used to start a conversation in an informal way. "Habla, cause!" (or "causita") is a colloquial expression used to draw the attention of someone similar to "friend", "brother", "pana", or "compadre". “Peruvian food stands out for its characteristic and lively flavors, diversity of ingredients, and combinations of different culinary influences. The opportunity to discover these flavors, in an environment like La Marina is something that the owners, residents, and guests of Casa de Campo is something that has to be experienced,” comments chef Masas who, together with his team, is in charge of the impeccable execution of the drinks and dishes of the restaurant. CAUSA'S MENU features Chef Masas's interpretation of the authentic, bold, and brilliant flavors of Peruvian cuisine, focusing on three of the most recognized styles of its gastronomy: Creole, Nikkei, and Chifa. "Our menu is based on flavors and traditional versions of these dishes, but without taking too much creative freedom when it comes to the recipes. We focus on making them in the best possible way, with fresh and quality products as well as taking care of their preparation. We invest time and attention to food plating and presentation, creating a dynamic and stimulating effect, which captures the attention of the diner," explains Chef Anthony Masas. The restaurant has been designed following all Casa Cares protocols reassuring its partners that they are taking all necessary and precautionary measures for the health, safety, and well-being of their diners, clients, and guests, as well as the entire Casa de Campo community. In response to managing physical distancing effectively, the restaurant has outside seating available, the menus can be viewed in digital format via QR Codes, and hand sanitizer dispensers have been deployed throughout the area. The Marina Casa de Campo is set in 90,000 square meters of land where the Chavón River meets the Caribbean Sea. Certainly, one of the Dominican Republic’s most upscale marinas, La Marina, as it’s known by locals, is close to a multitude of scenic sea destinations such as Catalina island, Saona island, and Palmilla, a natural swimming pool, as well as waters ripe for sport fishing which has granted them an appearance in the annual Billfish Report since 2013.

Opened in 2001, the Marina Casa de Campo marked a turning point in the development of both yachting and fishing activities in the eastern region of the country. The project was so successful that just a year later, an expansion of the Marina was approved and the wave breaker was cut and a second stage was constructed taking the project from 183 moorings to a total of 350 docks and capable of receiving ships from 30 to 250 feet in length. The high quality of service, excellent facilities, and ease of access at the Marina Casa de Campo have all contributed to its success. This prestigious project is a dream come true, conceived by Italian architect Gianfranco Fini on his first visit to Casa de Campo after receiving an invitation from his friend Pierro Giacosa in 1989. Fini fell in love with the country and resort and presented his vision to Alfonso “Alfy” Fanjul, President of the Board of Directors Central Romana Corporation, in a fortuitous meeting aboard a river cruise boat up the Chavón River.

The emotion, the color and the joy of this cultural celebration is one of the most anticipated by Dominicans. This year, it will be a little different. We will not be able to hear the ringing of bells, the beat of the drums, see the bright colors and striking masks announcing the arrival of the carnival season. We have seen how some towns have made efforts to keep the tradition alive, such as Cotui, located in the Sánchez Ramírez province in the Cibao region. This year large statues of colorful carnival characters have been placed in public areas to enliven the people by bringing color to their lives and keeping their traditions alive, although on a smaller scale. 70 CASA DE CAMPO LIVING

Durante los meses de febrero y marzo, la República Dominicana celebra el Carnaval dominicano. La emoción, el color y la alegría de esta celebración cultural es una de las más esperadas por los dominicanos. Este año, será un poco diferente. No podremos escuchar los cascabeles a ritmo de tambores, ver los colores vivos y máscaras llamativas anunciando la llegada del carnaval. Hemos visto cómo algunos pueblos han hecho esfuerzos por mantener viva la tradición como es el caso de Cotui, ubicado en la provincia de Sánchez Ramírez en la región del Cibao. Este año se han colocado grandes estatuas de pintorescos personajes del carnaval en áreas públicas para así animar al pueblo brindándole color y manteniendo viva sus tradiciones aunque a menor escala. Puede que muchos conozcan el carnaval de La Vega y Santo Domingo, pero pocos conocen el de Cotuí. Dagoberto Tejeda Ortiz, popular sociólogo, folclorista e investigador dominicano, lo describe de la siguiente manera; “El carnaval de Cotui ha sido unos de los carnavales de mayor diversidad de personajes con identidad del país. El personaje tradicional por excelencia es el “Platanu”, herencia africana, traje elaborado con hojas secas de plátano y un higüero como máscara. De este se han desprendido otros personajes con diferentes materiales, pero con las mismas raíces. La mayoría de esos personajes [tradicionales] son solo recuerdos y nostalgias en el carnaval cotuisano. Se han modificado y se han enriquecido. Aunque hay hermosos trajes de fantasía, hoy podemos afirmar que es el carnaval de mayor creatividad

“When I was a child in Cotuí I used to play dress-up all year long”

Many may know the carnival in La Vega and Santo Domingo, but few know the one in Cotuí. Dagoberto Tejeda Ortiz, a popular Dominican sociologist, folklorist, and researcher, describes it as follows; “The Cotui carnival has been one of the carnivals with the greatest diversity of characters in the country. The traditional character par excellence is the “Platanu”, an African heritage, a costume made with dried banana leaves and a ‘higuero’ as a mask. Other characters with different materials have emerged from this, but with the same roots. Most of those [traditional] characters are just memories and nostalgia at the Cotuisano carnival. They have been modified and enriched. Although there are beautiful fantasy costumes, today we can affirm that it is the carnival with the greatest ecological creativity in the country.” Without a doubt, the Cotuí carnival is impressive, but we cannot talk about it without mentioning Juan Francisco Vázquez, better known as “Juampa”. A lawyer by profession, Juampa is a craftsman and designer of Dominican carnival characters, who has dedicated 53 of his 59 years to the Dominican carnival. “When I was a child in Cotuí I used to play dress-up all year long. We used to disguise ourselves with what we found and used a balloon to be a ‘macaraó’. The first time I dressed up I was 6 years old, or rather the first time I was dressed up. They took me, dressed me and painted me with soot from the cauldron, and they told me ‘let’s go dancing!’, and I left without permission. I didn’t think of any of that, I just saw it as a game and I really enjoyed it. After that, I dressed up every year. I really enjoyed the process of looking for what I would wear and what I would do that year, “ Juampa tells us with great joy about his beginnings in the carnival. Juampa is known for creating and making his costumes from scratch. “Everything around me inspires me. I have made costumes using garbage and they are very beautiful. My costumes have been very popular, I find the peculiar and the spectacular in things that many people discard and manage to transform the simplest things into fantastical things. My inspiration is in Cotuí, my family, my wife, my house, my children.” The first costume he created was in 1988, ‘El hombre vaina’, and he tells us that it was there that his passion for costumes and carnival was born. “When I was studying at the UASD, I used to play a lot on the court. Once when I was waiting for my turn under an acacia tree, I was fascinated by the sound the scabbards made against the wind and I noticed that they had a very beautiful and shiny ocher color. I took some home with me and played a bit to see what it would be like if I combined them. When I saw that the outcome was looking pretty, I went out and looked for more. When I finished it and walked

Abogado de profesión, Juampa es un artesano y diseñador de personajes carnavalescos dominicanos, quien ha dedicado 53 de sus 59 años al carnaval dominicano. “Cuando era niño en Cotuí jugaba a disfrazarme todo el año. Uno se disfrazaba con lo que encontraba y cogía una vejiga para ser un ‘macaraó’. Recuerdo que la primera vez que me disfracé tenía 6 años, o más bien la primera vez que me disfrazaron. Me tomaron, me vistieron y pintaron con hollín del caldero, y me dijeron ‘¡vámonos a bailar!’, y yo me fui sin permiso. Pero no pensé en nada de eso, solo lo vi como un juego y lo disfrute muchisimo. Cuando llegue a la casa me dieron una pela [Juampa se ríe]. Luego de eso, regresé todos los años y me gozaba mucho el proceso de buscar de que me disfrazaría y que haría ese año”, nos dice Juampa con gran alegría de sus inicios en el carnaval. Juampa se caracteriza por crear y hacer sus disfraces de cero. “Me inspira todo lo que está a mi alrededor. He hecho disfraces de basura y quedan lindísimos. Yo le encuentro lo peculiar y lo espectacular a cosas que muchos descartan. Mis disfraces han gustado mucho, encuentro lo peculiar y lo espectacular en cosas que muchas personas descartan y logro transformar las cosas más simples en cosas fantásticas. Mi inspiración está en Cotuí, mi familia, mi esposa, mi casa, mis hijos”. El primer disfraz que creó fue en 1988, ‘El hombre vaina’, y nos comenta que fue allí cuando le nació la pasión por los disfraces y el carnaval. “Cuando estudiaba en la UASD, solía jugar mucho en la cancha, y esperaba mi turno debajo de un árbol de acacia. Me resultaba fascinante el sonido que hacían contra el viento y noté que tenían un bonito y brilloso color ocre. Tomé algunas y me las lleve para jugar un poco a ver que resultaba al combinarlas. Cuando veía que el disfraz iba quedando bonito, salía y buscaba más. Cuando lo terminé y salí, ¡todo el mundo estaba asombrado! Desde entonces hago mis propios disfraces, es cuestión de ponerle ganas, atención y mucha pasión”. Juampa nos cuenta, “Para ese entonces ya tenía mucha conciencia de lo que quería y hacía. Siempre me ha apasionado buscar información e investigar todo sobre nuestra cultura, sobre mi raza, mi pueblo. Con el tiempo y el conocimiento a uno se le va despertando el negro, y la identidad; uno sabe que quiere ser y lograr. Uno descubre lo que es realmente, y aprende a darle la importancia que amerita”, Han pasado muchos años y numerosos disfraces desde aquel primero, pero hay uno que para Juampa ha destacado; el disfraz que hizo en 2004. “Una de

out, everybody was in awe with it! Since then I have made my own costumes, it is a matter of having attention to details, creativity and passion.” Juampa continues, “By then I was already very aware of what I wanted and how to do it. I have always been passionate about seeking information and researching everything about our culture, about my race, my people. With time and knowledge, I fell in love with our African heritage and identity; I knew what I wanted to be and who I really was. I learned to give it the significance it deserves.” Many years and numerous costumes have passed since that first one, but there is one that for Juampa has stood out; the costume he made in 2004. “One of the reasons why I dress up is looking for a way to emulate our ancestors. I also do it because I like it and I enjoy getting into character and going out dancing in the streets. I am passionate about carnival. The costume I have identified with the most is the ‘African Prince’. This costume has a backstory story; The ‘African prince’ theme was an opportunity to paint my face black again, like when I was six years old. There is also the fact that I had never shaved my head and always wanted to do it as part of my costume. I had not tried it before for fear of what people in general and my clients would say since I am a lawyer. That day I dared to do it and broke all my taboos; it felt very liberating. From then on I have not stopped shaving my head, it was a way to overcome my fears, and let go of my doubts.” It is difficult to predict the future, but of something we are sure; Juampa’s future will be full of color, brilliance, creativity, joy… and a lot of carnival! “If I am healthy, willing and happy, I will continue to create and wear costumes, because I understand that I am not offending anyone with that, nor am I doing anything different from what ordinary people do for fun. It is a healthy way of having fun and I don’t have to invest a lot; I’m there dressed up enjoying the carnival, celebrating our culture and that fills my spirit.”

las razones por la cual me disfrazo es buscando una forma de emular a nuestros ancestros. Lo hago también porque me gusta y disfruto meterme en el personaje, bailar y gozar. A mi me apasiona el carnaval. Con el que más me he identificado es con el ‘Príncipe africano’. Este disfraz tiene una historia; el tema ‘principe africano’, era una oportunidad de volver a pintarme la cara de negro, como cuando comence. También esta el hecho de que nunca me había rapado la cabeza y siempre quería hacerlo para disfrazarme. No lo había intentado antes por temor al qué dirán las personas en general y mis clientes ya que soy abogado. Ese día me atreví a hacerlo y rompí todos mis tabúes; se sintió muy liberador. A partir de ahí no he dejado de raparme la cabeza, fue una forma de vencer mis miedos, y callar mis dudas”. Es difícil predecir el futuro, pero de algo si estamos seguros; el futuro de Juampa estará lleno de mucho color, brillo, creatividad, alegría… ¡y mucho carnaval! “Si tengo salud, ganas y gusto, seguiré disfrazandome, porque entiendo que no ofendo a nadie con eso, ni estoy haciendo nada diferente a lo que hacen las personas comunes y corrientes para divertirse. Es una forma sana de diversión; no tengo que invertir mucho, no tengo que hacer excesos, estoy ahí disfrazado disfrutando del carnaval, celebrando nuestra cultura y eso llena mi espíritu”.
