Regarding her artistic style, Matos describes it as a mixture of influences, saying, ”My style is a mixture of all my interests: Colorful, bold, cartoonish, tongue-in-cheek.” She adds, “My technique draws from my influence in comic books and video games — I use vivid colors in my portraits, along with bold lines. My art tends to be quite visually aggressive but playful regarding the subject matter and color palette. My abstract works usually reflect the environment where they will eventually be displayed.”

For Matos, the most satisfaction comes from the connection her art forms between her and the audience. “Although all art is self-reflective in a way, it is essentially incomplete without a spectator,” says Matos, adding that she believes the artist and the spectator are twins — they finish each other’s sentences and are two parts of a whole. “I thoroughly enjoy this discourse; I enjoy playing both roles and discussing my friends’ art with them.”

But Matos’ connection with her audience goes much deeper.
