It is with soulful delight that we ring in the holiday season in the bright, sunny and wonderful paradise that is Casa de Campo! It’s the season for joyful celebration with family and friends, both old and new. It’s a season of opportunities to reflect on the great moments from the last year, while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Teeth of the Dog. It’s a time to recharge, while enjoying the new, world class spa facilities, on the recently renovated driving range, or just taking in the incredibly lush landscaping while cruising around the resort in a golf cart, wind flowing through your hair, and discovering all the fantastic new things to see, do and taste.

And there sure are a lot of new things to see, do and explore. From new restaurants across the resort, to the new paddle ball courts, new courses at the Chavon school of design and of course — the opening of 58 luxurious new rooms to entice and luxuriate the most discerning of guests. To give us the full details, we sat down with Jason Kycek, Casa de Campo Resort & Villas’ Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, who shared with us the background story and vision of this new project. Of course, we would be remiss not to mention that this year marks the 40th anniversary of Altos de Chavon and look back at how this iconic village has hosted some of the greatest artists of all time.

On a personal note, as someone who grew up in Casa de Campo, it is so wonderful to see the resort continue to evolve with investments that continue to make this more than a resort, but an incredibly vibrant community perfect for the occasional visit, an ideal place for a second home, or as a primary residence. It’s more than a place to call home, it’s your Casa.

¡Es con un deleite conmovedor que recibimos la temporada festiva en el resplandeciente, soleado y maravilloso paraíso que es Casa de Campo! Es la temporada de celebraciones alegres con familiares y amigos, tanto antiguos como nuevos. Es una temporada de oportunidades para reflexionar sobre los grandes momentos del año, mientras disfruta de las impresionantes vistas de Teeth of the Dog. The Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, one of the most outstanding symbols of Altos de Chavón, is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The amphitheater was officially inaugurated on August 20th, 1982 with the Concert for the Americas featuring Frank Sinatra, Buddy Rich, Heart and Carlos Santana. It has been bringing us amazing performances ever since, hosting a whopping total of 216 concerts! Page 26.

FUNDACIÓN MIR FAMILY DAY

A popular and glamorous fundraising event, the Fundación MIR Family Day for Life is an anticipated tradition. This year’s event brought together villa owners, residents and visitors, who enjoyed a circuit of activities that started at La Romana Country Club with the tennis clinic followed by the traditional golf tournament and finished with an elegant dance awards ceremony at Minitas Beach Club.

Un popular y glamoroso evento de recaudación de fondos, el Día de la Familia de la Fundación MIR es una tradición muy esperada. El evento de este año reunió a propietarios de villas, residentes y visitantes, quienes disfrutaron de un circuito de actividades que comenzó en La Romana Country Club con la clínica de tenis seguida por el tradicional torneo de golf y terminó con una elegante ceremonia de premiación con baile en Minitas Beach Club.

ARTURO FUENTE CIGAR CLUB GOLF INVITATIONAL AT CASA DE CAMPO RESORT & VILLAS

For the second consecutive year, Arturo Fuente Cigar Club offered one of the most exclusive experiences for golf lovers in the country, with the main purpose being to benefit the education of more than 460 children from the Humo de Amor Foundation located in Bonao. This invitational tournament brought together some 120 guests at the largest golf course in the country: Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. In addition to sharing cigars only available for the event, they had spirited competition.

Por segundo año consecutivo, Arturo Fuente Cigar Club ofreció una de las experiencias más exclusivas para los amantes del golf en el país, con el objetivo principal de beneficiar la educación de más de 460 niños de la Fundación Humo de Amor ubicada en Bonao. Este torneo reunió a unos 120 jugadores en el campo de golf más grande del país: Teeth of the Dog en Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. POLO FRIENDSHIP CUP

This year we saw excellent, fast and downright close Polo matches that had us on the edge of our seats. The Polo Friendship Cup 2022 finals dedicated to Dr. José López ended with the La Potranca team winning, 10 goals to 9, against the Casa de Campo team.

Este año vimos partidos de polo excelentes, rápidos y francamente cerrados que nos tuvieron al borde de nuestros asientos. La final de la Copa de la Amistad 2022 dedicada al Dr. José López terminó con la victoria del equipo de La Potranca, 10 goles a 9, contra el equipo de Casa de Campo.

HALLOWEEN FUN IN CASA DE CAMPO

Halloween is VERY popular in Casa de Campo with several parties and activities taking place every year. This year, Casa de Campo had various activities for the community including a haunted house, trick or treating, pumpkin carving and the return of the golf cart decorating contest — this time in Altos de Chavón! The Halloween festivities were a great way to get creative and have fun. We hope to see a repeat next year.

Halloween es MUY popular en Casa de Campo con varias fiestas y actividades cada año. Este año, Casa de Campo preparó varias actividades para la comunidad, incluyendo una casa embrujada, truco o trato, tallado de calabazas y el regreso del concurso de decoración de carritos de golf, ¡esta vez en Altos de Chavón! FOUR MAJESTIC SCULPTURES BY THE FAMOUS SCULPTOR GUSTAVO VÉLEZ ARRIVE AT ALTOS DE CHAVÓN

The inauguration of the exhibition “Forms and Rhythms in the Geometric Dimension” by master sculptor Gustavo Vélez took place on Saturday, October 15 at WAO Gallery. The exhibition consists of 4 monumental sculptures in Carrara marble from Pietrasanta, the same town from which Michelangelo’s David marble was extracted. The pieces are placed in the open-air plazas of Altos de Chavón and will be displayed until January 29, 2023.

La inauguración de la exposición “Formas y Ritmos en la Dimensión Geométrica” del maestro escultor Gustavo Vélez se llevó a cabo el sábado 15 de octubre en WAO Gallery. La exposición consta de 4 esculturas monumentales en mármol de Carrara de Pietrasanta, la misma localidad de donde se extrajo el mármol del David de Miguel Ángel. Las piezas están ubicadas en las plazas al aire libre de Altos de Chavón y estarán expuestas hasta el 29 de enero de 2023.

POP ARTIST KRISTIN SIMMONS AT CASA DE

CAMPO RESORT

In early October , New York artist Kristin Simmons presented her latest pop art exhibition to the Casa de Campo community of residents and guests at the WAO Chavón Innovation Hub in Altos de Chavón. Attendees enjoyed a pleasant night, with live music, drinks and pieces of art that manifested the trends of capitalism, social and economic policy, health issues and traces of habitual behavior reflected in a world society in a way sarcastic in order to stimulate critical thinking.

A principios de octubre, la artista de Nueva York, Kristin Simmons, presentó su última exhibición de arte pop a la comunidad de residentes e invitados de Casa de Campo en el Centro de Innovación WAO Chavón en Altos de Chavón. Los espectadores pudieron disfrutar de una amena noche, con música en vivo, tragos y obras de arte que manifestaron las tendencias del capitalismo, la política social y económica, temas de salud y huellas de comportamientos habituales reflejados en una sociedad mundial de manera sarcástica con el fin de estimular el pensamiento crítico.

ALTOS DE CHAVÓN OKTOBERFEST 2022

The world’s largest Volksfest (i.e. beer festival and traveling fun fair) started in Munich a couple of centuries ago and is now a festivity celebrated all across the world in the month of October. This year, Altos de Chavón celebrated its own version of Oktoberfest and it was a complete and utter success! Families came out for music, children’s games, barbecue and a fine selection of national and international beers. It was a delight to see Altos de Chavón full of life and music.

El Volksfest más grande del mundo (es decir, el festival de la cerveza y la feria itinerante) que comenzó en Múnich hace un par de siglos es ahora una festividad que se celebra en todo el mundo en el mes de octubre. ¡Este año, Altos de Chavón celebró su propia versión del Oktoberfest y fue todo un éxito! Las familias salieron para disfrutar de la música, juegos infantiles, asado y una fina selección de cervezas nacionales e internacionales. GUIDED TOUR THROUGH THE ALTOS DE CHAVÓN REGIONAL MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY

The architect, archaeologist and artist Christian Martínez gave us a guided tour of the museum’s collection where he explained and provided anecdotes, stories, legends and myths of the Quisqueya aborigines. The narrated guided tour lasted approximately two hours and was attended by more than 30 people from the community.

El arquitecto, arqueólogo y artista Christian Martínez nos hizo un recorrido guiado por la colección del museo donde explicó y brindó anécdotas, historias, leyendas y mitos de los aborígenes de Quisqueya. La visita guiada narrada tuvo una duración aproximada de dos horas y contó con la participación de más de 30 personas de la comunidad.

KUN AGÜERO VISITED CASA DE CAMPO

After his departure from soccer for health reasons, Sergio “Kun” Agüero deepened his relationship with golf. The Argentine visited Casa de Campo Resort & Villas while participating in the 2022 DR Open, where he enjoyed not only golf but also several dinners at Minitas Beach, cultural tours of Altos de Chavón and boat trips to different nearby beaches.

Tras su salida del fútbol por motivos de salud, Sergio “Kun” Agüero profundizó su relación con el golf. El argentino visitó Casa de Campo Resort & Villas mientras participaba en el DR Open 2022, donde disfrutó no solo del golf sino también de varias cenas en Playa Minitas, recorridos culturales por Altos de Chavón y paseos en lancha a diferentes playas cercanas.

Thanksgiving isn’t complete without some turkey! This is the fifth year that Cigar Country has hosted this wonderful event in which the Casa de Campo community members get a head start on the holidays with a Best Turkey Competition. This year Patricia Proaño was deemed the number one champion with Angelly Valera, Liliana Abel and Amelia Pereyra coming in second, third and fourth place respectively.

¡El Día de Acción de Gracias no está completo sin un poco de pavo! Este es el quinto año que Cigar Country organiza este maravilloso evento en el que los miembros de la comunidad de Casa de Campo comienzan las fiestas con una competencia del Mejor Pavo. Este año Patricia Proaño fue proclamada campeona con Angelly Valera, Liliana Abel y Amelia Pereyra ocupando el segundo, tercer y cuarto lugar respectivamente.

RUDI SPADAFORA

The always-smiling Rudi Spadafora has a lot to be happy about! The 94-year-old was pleasantly surprised by friends and family in La Romana Country Club to celebrate an unforgettable farewell party. Many have known Rudi since his arrival here at the resort in the early 1990s and took to celebrating his time here in style.

¡El siempre sonriente Rudi Spadafora tiene mucho por lo que estar feliz! El hombre de 94 años fue gratamente sorprendido por amigos y familiares en La Romana Country Club para celebrar una inolvidable fiesta de despedida. Muchos han conocido a Rudi desde su llegada aquí al resort a principios de la década de 1990 y celebraron su tiempo aquí con estilo.

WILFRIDO VARGAS AT ALTOS DE CHAVÓN

As part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the emblematic Altos de Chavón Amphitheater, Wilfrido Vargas filled this well-known stage with the rhythm of merengue, closing out this great celebration. “Thank you once again for inviting me and coming to celebrate with us,” he said, recalling that he was the first Dominican tropical artist to perform at the newly opened amphitheater.

En el marco de la celebración del 40 aniversario del emblemático Anfiteatro Altos de Chavón, Wilfrido Vargas llenó este reconocido escenario a ritmo de merengue, cerrando esta gran celebración. “Gracias una vez más por invitarme y venir a celebrar con nosotros”, dijo al recordar que fue el primer artista tropical dominicano en presentarse en el recién inaugurado anfiteatro.

FRANK SINATRA TRIBUTE

A tribute to Frank Sinatra commemorated the amphitheater’s 40th anniversary. The tribute was performed by the big band Santo Domingo Pops orchestra. Directed by Amaury Sánchez, the tribute featured Máximo Martínez, Héctor Aníbal, Laura Rivera and José Guillermo Cortines.

Un homenaje a Frank Sinatra conmemoró el 40 aniversario del anfiteatro. El homenaje estuvo a cargo de la orquesta big band Santo Domingo Pops dirigida por Amaury Sánchez, y los artistas Máximo Martínez, Héctor Aníbal, Laura Rivera y José Guillermo Cortines.

Altos de Chavón was the vision of Charles Bluhdorn. He envisioned a place that could attract plastic artists, designers, writers and musicians from different parts of the world, and artisans who would pay homage to the local heritage with workshops open to the public, keeping alive the Dominican folkloric richness. Bluhdorn understood

Altos de Chavón fue la visión de Charles Bluhdorn. Imaginó un lugar que pudiera atraer a artistas plásticos, diseñadores, escritores y músicos de diferentes partes del mundo, y artesanos que rindieran homenaje al patrimonio local con talleres abiertos al público, manteniendo viva la riqueza folclórica dominicana. Bluhdorn entendió que los edificios de ladrillo y piedra de coral podrían albergar

that brick and coral stone buildings could house art studios, craft workshops, galleries, shops and restaurants in the future, attracting tourists and visitors to the area.

The original plans for Altos de Chavón were designed by the Dominican architect José Antonio Caro. Italian set designer Roberto Copa carried out the work of creating the village together with a great team of Dominican artisans — masons, carpenters, and blacksmiths — who over ten years managed to bring the vision to reality. Each stone was carved by hand, the fountains were forged and wooden details were carved in the same town.

The iconic 5,000-seat theater was inspired by the ancient Greek Theatre of Epidaurus. To add to the total feel of the Greek ruins, the designers added semi-buried and “broken” columns on the hill behind the theater.

Year after year, the amphitheater has brought us showstopping concerts and celebrations. Since 1982, artists of the magnitude of Julio Iglesias, Sting, Charles Aznavour, Marc Anthony, Andrea Bocelli, Miguel Bosé, Jennifer López, Ricky Martin. Local artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Wilfrido Vargas, Joseito Mateo, Sergio Vargas, Mily Quezada, among others, have followed in Frank Sinatra’s footsteps and have made the Altos de Chavón Amphitheater legendary.

Not only has it hosted musical events but also weddings, sports celebrations and social events. And who can forget when it was featured in Alicia Keys' "Karma" music video, where the star and the pink grand piano were the main focus on stage?

Enjoying any event in this theater is an incredible experience, immersing you completely in the rhythms and sounds coming out of the speakers and making you live in the moment to its fullest — simply put, it's unforgettable.

El escenógrafo italiano Roberto Copa llevó a cabo el trabajo de creación de la villa junto a un gran equipo de artesanos dominicanos —albañiles, carpinteros y herreros— quienes a lo largo de diez años lograron hacer realidad la visión. Cada piedra fue tallada a mano, las fuentes fueron forjadas y los detalles en madera fueron tallados en el mismo pueblo.

El icónico teatro de 5000 asientos se inspiró en el antiguo teatro griego de Epidauro. Para agregar a la sensación total de las ruinas griegas, los diseñadores agregaron columnas semienterradas y "rotas" en la colina detrás del teatro.

Año tras año el anfiteatro nos ha traído conciertos y celebraciones impresionantes. Desde 1982, artistas de la talla de Julio Iglesias, Sting, Charles Aznavour, Marc Anthony, Andrea Bocelli, Miguel Bosé, Jennifer López, Ricky Martin. No solo ha albergado eventos musicales sino también bodas, celebraciones deportivas y eventos sociales. ¿Y quién puede olvidar cuando apareció en el video musical "Karma" de Alicia Keys, donde la estrella y el piano de cola rosado eran el foco principal en el escenario?

Disfrutar de cualquier evento en este teatro es una experiencia increíble, sumergirte por completo en los ritmos y sonidos que salen de los parlantes y hacerte vivir el momento al máximo, en pocas palabras, es inolvidable.

We are happy to see that Charles Bluhdorn’s vision came true. Altos de Chavón has become a scenario of global artistic creativity and cultural expression in the Dominican Republic and for the world. We are grateful to him and the many other people that have come after him who have expanded upon it and continue to work on making it even greater.

Jason Kycek, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Casa de Campo Resort and Villas, impresses us with how much passion, focus and resources are being directed to projects like the creation of over fifty new hotel rooms and a new world-class spa — along with many other yet to be announced plans. His commitment is simple, yet difficult: Raise the bar a little every day.

CCL: Let's start with the history so we can have a good 30,000-foot view

JASON KYCEK TALKS TO US ABOUT THE EXCITING NEW PREMIER CLUB, ROOMS, SUITES AND MORE

year anniversary in 2024. The property is considered the first resort built in the Dominican Republic. We are not your typical resort in the Caribbean. We're a little city of 2,400 homeowners that happens to have a resort component within its gates. So once you're inside Casa de Campo, whether as a homeowner or as a resort guest, you're intermingling with everybody who's part of the community.

Over the years, everything that has been built here has ended up being the best in the world. Like when Pete Dye was hired to build the Teeth of the Dog golf course, he was starting out in his career and nobody knew who he was. Fast forward 50 years later, and he's regarded as probably the preeminent golf architect in the world. Outside of the incredible golf, there's the equestrian center with polo and the shooting center, which is for people who are into trap and skeet shooting. The tennis center is the largest in the Caribbean, and it’s soon to be expanding into pickleball and paddle tennis — I believe, we’ll probably be one of the first resorts in the Caribbean that will cater to all three sports. And then, of course, the Marina, the largest in the Caribbean. A whole other little world within Casa de Campo: it has its own restaurants, there's a supermarket, a movie theater, and a hardware store. Again, it's just part of the complex. Then the coup de grace is Altos de Chavón. That's the artist village — a replicated 16thcentury Mediterranean village, which is celebrating its 40th year anniversary this year.

If you looked at the competition, the one thing they had on us was a spa. Don’t get me wrong, we have a spa here, but it's more of a resort amenity where guests can get a massage, a pedicure, manicure but it's not a destination spa or a determining factor for people to stay with us, that is what we are currently working on and will open soon.

CCL: So can you tell us a little more about the new spa and what people can expect from it?

"We are not your resorttypical in the Caribbean"

JK: Our objective with this spa is for it to be not only the best spa health and wellness center in the Dominican Republic but one of the best in the world. It's going to be a true destination spa where you have available a series of well-known treatments but we're also going to incorporate some of the latest high-tech technology products that are in the market right now. And the physical footprint of the spa is very large, it's going to be over 18,000 square feet.

We're going to have a VIP suite, which can also be used as a bridal suite, with an indoor-outdoor pool area. We have a lot of weddings throughout the year so it'll be perfect for that too. We also get celebrities here and sometimes they don't want to be seen so these new suites and club will be perfect for them as well.

But then we have the 2,400 people who will live here, either full-time or off and on throughout the year. A lot of homeowners are going to New York, Paris, Miami and LA to get these services and treatments; we're looking to bring all of that here so they have everything they need in Casa.

All this started a little over five years ago when we told upper management that we should look into achieving two new goals: to build more rooms and a destination spa. Fast forward now five years later, and they broke ground on both facilities last November. And an exciting new chapter in Casa de Campo is about to begin. It's a big milestone for the company but looking at the way we’ve grown, thankfully we convinced them.

CCL: How many more rooms are going to be added?

JK: Fifty-eight suites. They're at a whole other level from the existing product we have right now as well too, and I consider it will be treated as a separate hotel within the hotel. So we're calling them the Premier Club and Premier Room rooms and suites section of the property.

Guests staying in these suites will be taken to the premier club for check-in and it'll be a private exclusive area only for the resort guests staying there. They'll have their own end-of-the-year club, bar and lounge area. The other exciting thing for us too is this area will have the first presidential suite on the property. It was designed not only to be a presidential suite for guests to enjoy, but we have a lot of celebrities and a lot of dignitaries and government officials that come through here and always travel with their own security or bodyguards. For example, if they have private security, they will have available two separate rooms outside of the presidential suite for their itinerary or where their security guards can stay in or be positioned right outside the presidential suite as well if that's needed. It's an exciting project fast coming upon us needing to be completed because we're welcoming our first guests, on December 23rd. We've been working around the clock to get everything finished.

CCL: And the name Premier Club is also worth noting. It's kind of a little nod to the past because that was the first high-level club that Casa de Campo offered back in the day.

JK: I remember when I first came here in the mid-90s and going into that check-in experience at the premier club as well, too. It was incredible. So yes, we are tying it to a little nostalgia.

CCL: How many guests are going to be checking in on the 23rd? Do you have a headcount yet?

CCL: Y también cabe destacar el nombre Premier Club. Es como un pequeño guiño al pasado porque ese fue el primer club de alto nivel que Casa de Campo ofrecía.

JK: Recuerdo cuando vine aquí por primera vez a mediados de los 90 y también tuve esa experiencia de registro en el Premier Club de aquel entonces. Fue increíble. Así que sí, lo estamos atando a un poco de nostalgia. CCL: ¿Cuántos invitados se registrarán el día 23? ¿Ya tienen un conteo?

JK: Sí, creo que tenemos unas 25 habitaciones confirmadas de 58 habitaciones. Lo más probable es que entre 50 y 75 huéspedes.

JK: Yeah, I think we have about 25 rooms confirmed out of 58 rooms. Around 50 - 75 guests most likely.

CCL: You mentioned the check-in experience that's going to be different for these guests; Are there any other kinds of unique experiences that set these rooms apart?

JK: We're still defining which amenities we're going to have in the rooms but for example, there'll be a high-end bath amenity. The rooms themselves are going to have the latest state-of-the-art technology-wise, everything can be controlled from a panel next to the bed.

We're also including a blackout feature. Sleep has become a big selling point or a topic in the tourism industry. Usually, in a room, you always have at least some little light shining somewhere whether it's from the cable box light or the AC for example. These are going to be built so they can be completely blacked out. You won't see any light whatsoever. From how it was described to me, you can't even see your hand in front of your face.

Also, here in Casa de Campo, part of the fun and part of the experience is that every guest has a golf cart. The traditional golf cart for the resort guests is red and is included in all rooms and buildings we rent. For the premier suites, we decided we're going to change the golf cart. They're going to be black, longer and with a tan beige interior. They'll have the premier club logo as well. They will also be all-electric — traditional golf carts

It is an exciting time for our company and guests alike with all of the improvements we are making throughout the property. We are grateful to be able to take Casa de Campo to the next level and raise the bar in luxury hospitality within the Dominican Republic.”

CCL: Can you talk to us a little bit about the art component? We hear that is something you’ve been interested in.

JK: It's been one of the many projects I've been working on — revitalizing and building upon our art history and culture segment. We're also bringing artists in, and we just had one of our first artists, Kristin Simmons. She's young, internationally renowned and one of the top pop artists in the world right now. And so we were able to bring her here, and she had never been here before. We hosted a cocktail reception for her in the evening. She met with the school in Santo Domingo and all of our team here on the property. Initially, we brought her in just for a couple of days just so she could brainstorm and see the kind of canvas we have here for her to work with or do future art exhibits.

Before she got here, we had a couple of meetings and I thought, why don't we just introduce you to the homeowners here in the community because to me it's important for us to not only obviously constantly promote Casa de Campo. I always say I wear two hats. My Casa de Campo hat, of course, is my top priority. But I'm also an ambassador to the Dominican Republic. Art like she does never even thought of coming to the Dominican Republic. We're putting not only Casa de Campo but the Dominican Republic on the international art scene.

CCL: It seems like a win-win for everyone. I mean, seems like it's good for the country, it's obviously good for the resort. But the artists I mean, create for just from a creative standpoint, but also from having an opportunity to meet potential clients and stuff like that.

JK: You're absolutely right. And without question, I guess that's how I approach everything, it has to be a win-win for everybody. And so that's how we looked at it with her as well. And she was, in particular, as a person, she's fantastic. But absolutely, it has to be a win-win for everybody. My goal has always been to make Casa one of the hottest destinations, not only in the Caribbean but in the world. And it has all the facilities to do that.

CCL: Parece que todos ganan. Quiero decir, parece que es bueno para el país, obviamente es bueno para el resort. Pero los artistas, crean desde un punto de vista creativo, pero también cuando tienen la oportunidad de conocer clientes potenciales y cosas por el estilo.

Completed in 1982, Altos de Chavón is a replica of a 16th century Mediterranean village, built almost completely from stone and overloo king the magnificent Chavón river. The cobbled pathways of this beautiful attraction lead both visitors and residents on a cultural and artistic journey, offering so much more than just a wonderful view and a pretty church.

Chavón is home to numerous Dominican artisans. To the side of the church there’s Carmen who makes ragdolls and Bernardo who weaves baskets and hats. There are also a weaving, ceramics, and serigraphy workshops.

ST. STANISLAUS CHURCH

Mass: Saturdays & Sundays 5pm. Consecrated in 1979, St. Stanislaus Church is named after the patron saint of Poland in tribute to Pope John Paul II who presented the church with the ashes of St. Stanislaus for its inauguration. A popular choice for destination weddings, it was here that famous actress Celinés Toribio wed in 2009, with fellow actress Michelle Rodríguez as her bridesmaid. According to rumors, the late Michael Jackson also married here, but although the couple did stay in Casa in 1994, this is not where he married Lisa Marie Presley.

MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY

Our resident donkey has been a popular attraction in Chavón since 1987. Wearing his own sombrero, Margarito loves to have his photo taken and even offers donkey rides around the cobbles.

RISTIN SIMMONS was invited to Casa de Campo as the first artist to take part in the new artists in Casa program. This program is the result of almost two years of hard work with the aim to revitalize and continue to build upon the great splendor of the iconic Altos de Chavón, known to many as “the artists village,” to get inspired by our wonderful surroundings.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, AT WHAT AGE WERE YOU FIRST FASCINATED BY ART?

I was always very visual and tactile, even as a toddler. I enjoyed growing up in New York City where you are constantly surrounded by images, colors and people for inspiration. At an early age, I loved everything childlike, novel and “pop” — especially toys like Barbie, Playmobile, Polly Pocket, etc. I would often color-coordinate my toys and then take pictures of them with an old polaroid camera. You’re never too young to be a curator!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ART AND YOUR STYLE?

Neo-pop, but in layman’s terms — like a female Andy Warhol … with some sass.

HOW DOES YOUR STYLE DIFFER FROM OTHER ARTISTS?

There are a lot of pop artists, but I am a purist when it comes to the medium and how something is made. Everything I do is hand-produced (nothing comes out of a digital printer), but additionally, everything is mediumspecific. Meaning anything that exists as a painting will never be made as a screenprint and vice versa. I’m disciplined and intentional about why something is made a certain way, as I believe different art forms convey various messages more effectively.

CUÉNTANOS UN POCO SOBRE TI, ¿A QUÉ EDAD TE FASCINÓ POR PRIMERA VEZ EL ARTE?

Siempre fui muy visual y táctil, incluso cuando era una niña pequeña. Disfruté crecer en la ciudad de Nueva York, donde estás constantemente rodeado de imágenes, colores y personas en busca de inspiración. A una edad temprana, me encantaba todo lo infantil, novedoso y "pop", especialmente los juguetes como Barbie, Playmobile, Polly Pocket, etc. A menudo coordinaba los colores de mis juguetes y luego les tomaba fotos con una vieja cámara polaroid. ¡Nunca se es demasiado joven para ser curador!

¿CÓMO DESCRIBIRÍAS TU ARTE Y TU ESTILO?

Neo-pop, pero en términos sencillos, como un Andy Warhol femenino... con algo de descaro.

¿EN QUÉ SE DIFERENCIA TU ESTILO DE OTROS ARTISTAS?

Hay muchos artistas pop, pero soy purista cuando se trata del medio y de cómo se hace algo. Todo lo que hago es producido a mano (nada sale de una impresora digital), pero además, todo es específico del medio. Lo que significa que cualquier cosa que exista como pintura nunca se hará como serigrafía y viceversa. Soy disciplinada e intencional sobre por qué algo se hace de cierta manera, ya que creo que diferentes formas de arte transmiten varios mensajes de manera más efectiva.

¿CUÁL ES TU INSPIRACIÓN Y CÓMO ABORDAS NUEVOS PROYECTOS?

Estoy constantemente leyendo, tomando notas, arrancando páginas de revistas y, en general, tratando de notar el mundo que me rodea. No hay un interruptor de "encendido" o "apagado" en mi cerebro, ¡para bien o para mal! No todo termina en mi trabajo, pero mi inspiración viene de perderme en mis obsesiones y descubrir cómo cultivarlas y articularlas visualmente.

¿CUÁL ES TU FILOSOFÍA PERSONAL?

Si quieres una vida normal, consigue un trabajo normal.

WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION AND HOW DO YOU APPROACH NEW PROJECTS?

I am constantly reading, taking notes, ripping pages out of magazines and generally trying to notice the world around me. There is no “on” or “off” switch in my brain — for better or worse! Not everything ends up in my work, but my inspiration comes from getting lost in my obsessions and figuring out how to visually cultivate and articulate them.

WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY?

If you want a normal life, get a normal job.

WHAT IS THE MOST THERAPEUTIC PART OF CREATING ART?

Finding something you truly get lost in is the best kind of therapy. After working in the corporate world of advertising, I am grateful to be doing something where time just slips away.

WHICH OF THE PIECES THAT YOU HAVE MADE SO FAR DO YOU FEEL A PARTICULARLY STRONG CONNECTION TO AND WHY?

I feel connected to all of my work, but if I had to pick one series, I would say, High Heels, High Hopes. In this piece, I feature a Barbie I played with as a child (with some added, re-interpretive adult themes), so it’s kind of like having a time machine to my childhood each time I see it.

WHAT DO YOU WISH THE VIEWER TO TAKE WITH THEM WHEN THEY SEE YOUR ART PIECES?

I want to make people smile and think differently about our relationship with luxury and consumption, but more generally, I want people to feel like they can pursue their dreams and be driven more strongly by curiosity than by fear.

ES LA PARTE MÁS TERAPÉUTICA DE CREAR ARTE?

Encontrar algo en lo que realmente te pierdas es el mejor tipo de terapia. Después de trabajar en el mundo corporativo de la publicidad, estoy agradecida de estar haciendo algo en lo que el tiempo se me escapa.

¿CON CUÁL DE LAS PIEZAS QUE HAS HECHO HASTA AHORA SIENTES UNA CONEXIÓN PARTICULARMENTE FUERTE Y POR QUÉ?

Me siento conectada con todo mi trabajo, pero si tuviera que elegir una serie, diría High Heels, High Hopes. En esta pieza, presento una Barbie con la que jugaba cuando era niña (con algunos temas adultos reinterpretados agregados), por lo que es como tener una máquina del tiempo para mi infancia cada vez que la veo.

¿QUÉ DESEAS QUE SE LLEVE EL ESPECTADOR CUANDO VEA TUS OBRAS DE ARTE?

Quiero hacer que la gente sonría y piense de manera diferente sobre nuestra relación con el lujo y el consumo, pero, en términos más generales, quiero que la gente sienta que puede perseguir sus sueños y que se deje llevar más por la curiosidad que por el miedo.

WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO THOSE WANTING TO CREATE AND SELL THEIR OWN ART?

Life is short, fragile and does not wait for anyone. There will never be a perfect time to pursue your goals. Your feelings will lead you astray as often as they will help you. This is not just relevant for artists, but for everyone. Ask yourself what you would do if nobody paid you. What makes you feel fulfilled and excited? It doesn't have to be your job, it can just be for 5 minutes a day — but whatever it is, just do it.

THROUGH BAGGY SILHOUETTES, innovative textures and a mix of various shades of blue, the Y2K all-denim trend reappears hand in hand with a contemporary notion: up-cycling. These pieces were made by the students of the Fashion Design Career at Chavón The School of Design with recycled garments in denim inspired by different concepts.

A TRAVÉS DE SILUETAS HOLGADAS, texturas innovadoras y una mezcla de diversos tonos azules, la tendencia Y2K del total- denim reaparece de la mano de una noción contemporánea: el up-cycling. Estas piezas fueron realizadas por los estudiantes de la Carrera de Diseño de Modas de Chavón La Escuela de Diseño con Prendas recicladas en Denim.

ARMADILLO BY ANYELINA MEDINA, MARIA VASQUEZ AND LIZ ESPINAL

Armadillo consists of two pieces: a tight mid-thigh dress made with different layers of recycled denim in a gradient color palette throughout it. The second piece is a skirt with a waistband and two denim pieces with a mesh cretonne base and rods to maintain its volume.

Armadillo consta de dos piezas: un vestido ceñido a la mitad del muslo hecho con diferentes capas de mezclilla reciclada en una paleta de colores degradados a lo largo de la pieza. With the opening of the Teeth of the Dog golf course, designed by Pete Dye in 1971, Casa’s sporting facilities have shone in the world arena. Whether you’re a nautical enthusiast or not, a visit to the Marina is a must. While centered around the grand Plaza Portofino, the area’s dining, nightlife, and shopping hub, we recommend exploring all areas of the Marina, wherever your feet may take you, you’ll find great shopping, restaurants, bars and cafés.

The Marina Casa de Campo is set in 90,000 square meters of land where the Chavón River meets the Caribbean Sea. Certainly, one of the Dominican Republic’s most upscale marinas, La Marina, as it’s known by locals, is close to a multitude of scenic sea destinations such as Catalina island, Saona island, and Palmilla, a natural swimming pool, as well as waters ripe for sport fishing which has granted them an appearance in the annual Billfish Report since 2013.

At the heart of the Marina is the beautiful Plaza Portofino. At the water’s edge, this plaza is home to five of the Marina’s finest restaurants and bars, making it a beautiful spot for lunch and dinner, with a magnificent view.

PASEO DEL MAR

The Marina is a beautiful place for a stroll, and for that, there is no better route than up the Paseo del Mar to the lighthouse perched at the end. This is one of the best places to enjoy a tropical sunset, or watch as yachts sail in and out, all day long. Along the Paseo del Mar you will also find a number of businesses such as La Casita restaurant and SBG, where you can buy and rent solarpowered golf carts.

COCONUT MALL

The Marina’s indoor shopping center is home to a number of businesses, such as banks, restaurants and stores, as well as the cinema.

EATING & SHOPPING

The Marina has the best variety of shops and restaurants in the entire resort.

DAYTRIPS

Options include Catalina Island, just a 30 minute ride away; Palmilla, a popular party spot with a natural swimming pool; and Saona Island, part of the “Parque Nacional del Este” nature reserve and the country’s most visited tourist destination.

FISHING

This area is one of the best places in the world for billfishing. From February to June, the most commonly caught fish are Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo and Sailfish.

CASA DE CAMPO YACHT CLUB

Daily, 9am-10pm (Mon/Tues., 3pm-10pm). (809) 523-2500. Members can enjoy a casual atmosphere with a few drinks and dinner, as well as more formal events. Registration: US$3,500. Monthly membership: US$50.

CALLE BARLOVENTO

The Calle Barlovento is the Marina’s primary shopping boulevard, where you will find boutique stores selling clothing, gifts, swimwear, sunglasses, cigars, jewelry, furniture and art, as well as a number of banks.

IBC SHIPYARD

Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm. (809) 449-3321. This 125,000 sq. ft. shipyard is the largest in the Caribbean, with its own dry dock and a 120 ton travel lift.

YACHT CHARTERS

Charters for day trips and fishing are available from the Villa Owners Club (809) 523-8077, Blue Coast Yacht Charters (809) 523-2212 and Marine Trade Center (809) 523-2321. Fraser Yacht luxury charters are available with IBI Yachts (809) 523-2208.

LA PESCA

Esta zona es una de los mejores lugares del mundo para billfishing. De febrero a junio, los pescados atrapados con mayor frecuencia son el blue marlin, dorado, atún aleta amarilla, guaju y pez vela.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

New arrivals welcomed between 8am & 6pm by the Marina de Guerra (VHF 16) and the Harbor Master (VHF 68). Pilot dinghies assist docking, while the Harbor Master starts the registration process. Everyone aboard must fill out a customs declaration form.

INTERNATIONAL DEPARTURES

Request process by 3pm. Departure after 5pm incurs an extra day charge. Passports must be stamped.

NATIONAL DEPARTURES

A “Despacho” departures certificate must be filed every time you leave the Marina, or an open “Despacho” for numerous trips.

90 days visit permit: US$70 Per vessel of any size or tenders which do not arrive onboard the main ship. US$36 p/p enrollment & disenrollment fee. New Padel tennis courts

The padel tennis wave has now hit Casa de Campo after launching its first-ever court at La Terraza Tennis Center. The sport is an adaptation of tennis, combining action with fun and social interaction. It’s a great sport for players of all ages and skills, as it is quick and easy to pick up. This is something that has been in the works for quite some time, and we are thrilled to have new options available to us in Casa.

La ola del pádel tenis llega ahora a Casa de Campo tras inaugurar su primera pista en La Terraza Tennis Center. El deporte es una adaptación del tenis, combinando acción con diversión e interacción social. Es un gran deporte para jugadores de todas las edades y habilidades, ya que es rápido y fácil de aprender.
